    As someone who is colorblind I feel pretty safe saying most colorblind people knew that this was a scam. But what makes this scam so bad is that it doesn't prey on colorblind people. It preys on people who know and care about a colorblind person.

    • @timokampwerth1996
      @timokampwerth1996 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      It's not just that, to someone who doesn't have colorblindness, it makes sense on paper. If someone is missing for example 50% of the red spectrum, it would make sense that if you wore glasses that filter out 50% yellow and blue, you'd end up with a somewhat muted but full range of color vision.
      And in theory it would work. Colorcorrecting Lenses are a real thing. However, manufacturing them to the specific needs of someone with Acromatopsy... that is it's very own, very massive headache. Because even slight deviations end up in either no change at all or a different kind of wonky vision

    • @connergray4783
      @connergray4783 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      Agreed. I actually have a pair of color corrective glasses that help me see orange better. I go clay target shooting often, the clays are orange, and I struggle with orange. But like you mentioned the glasses I use mute other colors in the process of making orange stand out. If Enchroma, or any of other companies, mentioned the contrast/muting effect none of the controversy would exist.

      @@connergray4783 I think what annoys me most is that what they're claiming would be possible, at least in theory. Given todays standards of manufacturing, making glasses that are tailormade to correct a person's specific type of Colorblindness is possible, but horrendously expensive. They would need to be individually adjusted to filter the wavelength of the light being let through to the specific type and degree of Colorvision, making for a stark distinction between possible and feasible.
      A pair of glasses like that would easily be 5 to 6 figures. And like it says in the video, If you don't have any receptors for red light, you're just not gonna see red, no matter what the glasses do.

    I am a UX designer (and thankfully can see color in great clarity). A big part of what I do these days is ensuring colorblind accessibility.
    I've always been suspicious of these glasses because it doesn't make sense that they could some how compensate for the physiological deficiencies in cone cells. But I've been told "naw bruh, they just work!"
    This is much akin to claiming you have glasses that allow humans to fully perceive the infrared or ultraviolet spectrum (as opposed to a visual representation in the visible-light spectrum). Maybe in the far-future, we'll find a way to splice Mantis Shrimp cells into our eyes...

    I actually use filter glasses with great effect. Although some people often misinterpret them for colorblind glasses. I struggle with severe light sensitivity, so my glasses have a yellow tint to them, but that serves to block out the blue light in the lower nanometer ranges. So, in a sense, they are actually making me slightly colorblind.
    But other then that, I think it's so low when scams like this show up. Cause one thing is scamming someone, horrible as it is.... But when you scam someone, taking advantage of a disability or an illness, that's a whole other level of disgusting!

    5:48 bought one of these for my dad years ago and he wears them every sunset now to see what he thought was just always a single shade of yellow with just darker saturation. With the blue and purple he failed that balloon test of course but got it immediately after putting them on. When you've "known" that purple is different from blue but have always seen it that way, then the second "blue" balloon "changes color", it's pretty easy to assume that the one that's now different is not actually the blue one. And after a lifetime of knowing, or at least hearing, the differences in red, yellow, orange, and green, to suddenly see them all but yellow "change" lets them understand pretty quickly what is what. They likely know that red is relatively "darker", they know that green is the same color as the grass that they may also be around if they're outside, and the "new" orange is the odd one out but its still different than the unchanging yellow. Now of course the colors are not actually "new" but it does help differentiate them from one another, or at least what my family's experience has shown.

    Here's the thing. The inside of the eye isn't working properly with colorblindness. Filtering even more light out isn't going to change the internal issue with the eye or brain. I could understand someone getting confused about it based on how regular glasses work. Refocusing light is very different from magically making a not working component start working. Glad this guy blew the whistle.

    He got some fucked up vision, but is very funny and has fun with it. Hates people that call sunsets beautiful because the sky is always light pink for him. Asked him to go grab me something and I was like just get the blue one and he came back with a gray one and we had a good laugh when I remembered his issue and he's like they're all the same color, just different shades!

    11:40 Look at the deutan result from Enchroma. Read the words around the circle. Look at where the color words are. It seems obvious that they did this to exaggerate the effects of colorblindness, so that someone who is only somewhat colorblind will get results that make their colorblindness seem worse.

    10:16 if someone wants to be extremely defensive of that video there is one possible explanation to how that worked that no one can disproof without the original recording file. That being that they recorded the first part where they tried the glasses on one day, went home and applied for the affiliat programm and after they got approofed for it went back to that park to record the last part where they tell you about it. That is possible and also not that uncommon for simmilar things to be recorded over multiple days. How ever it is completely unrealistic for that video not to be sponsored if they have an affiliate link, have a hashtag and their video being used by the company as advertising

    I remeber watching these videos and I looked into them for a friend. The EnChroma clearly said on their website they dont work for everyone. I think they even said they were for light or mild colorblindness. Also they offered like 3 types green, red, and I think yellow based on what type of colorblindness you were, and you had to be one of those 3 only.
    This dude claims he did all this research yet hes using yellow colorblidness glasses in one clip then red in another, seems like he doesnt even know what type of colorblindness he has.
    I am sure people over reacted but there are videos out there of people trying them and the glasses not working, but then they give them to a friend or family memeber who is also colorblind and they work.

    I alomost tried enchroma glasses, im coloreblind on all colores, i can see them but the tones between can mix and seperating tonal shifts requers heavy strain / time,i did en up trying Enchroma, at some point my eye doctor made me try Tinted colore glasses re, blue, yellow that was approved in Norway, i ended up with red ones, they dont make me see any "new" colores, but they help me seperate the colores from each other so its easier to see deitails, almost like it help your eyes rendner in details in a game, the red colore is overwhelming when you put them on, but they kinda dissapears, but there is a trade off, blue will be more green, and purple may look more orange and so on and so forth, but the lack of colore is worth it for me to be able to see more details rather then the huge strain to seperate colores.

  • @castlebarron1788

    I’m red color deficient. A person with green deficiency doesn’t have it impact their life as green is not often used as a base of surporting color in common items. Red however is absolutely one of those colors. And it’s always been a fixture in my life from traffic lights to stop signs and multiple tickets for not seeing them to being in the garden I’m always confronted with the difficulties around it.
    I got a pair of enchroma glasses and they actually do fucking help, no I’m not paid I’m broke as shit and generally hate corpo’s but these glasses actually help enhance my ability to see the color red like nothing else. I think what he’s trying to point out as a scam is that these glasses work for the mildly deficient like me. Anything more severe and you simply do not have the ability to perceive those colors at all. Mild CVD means you still have those color cones just not enough functioning ones to distinctly tell colors unless you’re seeing through a colored lens specifically enhancing the color you are deficient in which is what the glasses do at the cost of dulling other colors.
    Scam,? No they just didn’t explain how the glasses worked so they were being intentionally misleading

    6:03 they know the names of colors the same way you know the names of them. At some point in your life you looked at a color and someone told you what it is called. Only that colorblind people might see multiple colors as the same. One of the more known ones is the red-green deficiency where they can't differentiate between red and green. They still know that there is a color called red and one that is called green tho.
    There are also some interesting mind experiments (i don't remember if that got actually tested but i think it was an actual experiment) where one group got to learn the actual colors and one group got teached different names for them to see if the understanding of colors is teached or if we are born with it

    • @KooriGraywolf
      @KooriGraywolf 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In your example, if they were seeing red and green the same, and they called red what other people called "green"... When they're able to see both colors how could they tell which is which? At best whenever the would have a 50% chance each time.
      But more specifically being red-green colorblind means they will see both red and green as orange-ish or yellow-ish. So with a color corrected vision they would both be new colors to them.

    Colorblindness isn't that the cones are missing, they're there. The issue is that your eye lens is curved in all the wrong ways the whole way through, the light still goes through, but it's bent. This distorts the color. Kind of like how the sunlight can change intensity across an area when shining through glass at an angle. That's what's going on for most people with colorblindness. The colorblindness that IS missing cones is incredibly rare, and that turns into black/white or shades of gray only.
