It's sad how many people that actually work to improve get shadowed by cheaters.

yep, COD is proof for that also,few biggest streamers cheat like crazy, from home they kill 30 easy and no one can get behind them and know where enemys are ,but when they play live they suck
@ectothermic I mean, they technically didn't get world first if they cheated to get there, but a big asterisk has to go on every record going forward.
At least in the case of Schmooey when they did get called out, they did have a soul and all the money that was donated to him was refunded, how many cheaters do you know about that get caught cheating and have managed to accumulate a hefty revenue from their deception actually RETURN what they falsely gained?
Karl makes a lot of great content on cheaters and speed runs, good choice.
A lot of speedrun communities are weirdly cult-like.
I've seen so many people expose cheaters only to get flamed and the story's always the same.
Someone with a bigger following or authority finally decides to speak up and then change is made but it doesn't matter. :/

Say whatever you want about speedrunners, they dont mess around when it comes to cheating. They will be on your ass if they sense something off lol
Yeah? This very video kinda says otherwise. Since there had long been something 'off' if you will with this guy's records. But he was so trusted that it always got brushed off and investigations were done halfheartedly.
So people seems to have been suspecting or wondered for a long time, sensing something was off. They just messed around if you will with the investigations.
They didn't get on his ass way back when they fist sensed something wrong. They got on his ass when they realized there was CLEARLY something off.
Edit; I do believe that speed runners take cheating seriously, but not like you said. They seem to only take it serious, when the cheating becomes more obvious. Not when there's just a 'sense' or suspicion. That might just be one guy who hones onto something. For whatever reason. Then once that one person manages to find something more concrete, THAT'S when the speedrunners at large get on your ass if you will.

Regardless if it's gaming, real life sports, or careers, cheating shouldn't be tolerated and should absolutely be exposed. Doesn't matter if you think the subject matter is mundane or whatnot, another person does care and has invested the time and energy to cultivate their skills. To then have a cheater just bump you out of the way of an achievement is heartbreaking.
But the idiot "It's just a game" crowd can't act all high-and-mighty with this logic.....
If it's a competition: cheating should never be tolerated and the cheaters should be named & shamed so people are less likely to go clout chasing via cheating.
People are putting in hundreds of thousands of hours of work to compete in anything just to get sniped by someone cheating.... and by the time these cheaters get discovered: alot of the legit dudes at the time of those fake records have already quit the hobby and are long gone.... Actually stealing records and people's time.
keeping the bounty would have made him from a cheater to a cheater for money which is also called fraud. and that's actual criminal.

The geometry dash cheating scandal was quite bad too, might want to react to it too.
These two made me really angry and then I realised every speedrun community is similar.
The GoldenEye cheaters too.
I give the man props though for paying back all the bounties. Yeah cheating like that is scummy, but being willing to pay that much money back to make up for it shows a good level of maturity and a genuine attempt to right their wrongs.
I remember playing guitar hero, played almost all of them i think, those were the good old days.
Fun fact: A LOT has changed in the Clone Hero community since that video. Some for the better (e.g new cheat detection methods coming into play), some for the worse (e.g Frif was exposed as a predator), and...well, Schmooey is back LOL. He's doing it for real this time as far as other top players can tell tho
The speedrun community is not one to try to get one over on. They are always looking at people who set new records or came up with a 'new technique' so they will naturally check it out frame by frame to see if 1. If truly does work, and 2. If can be further improved upon. So if they are doing those things they will also notice if certain things are not lining up as they should

While extremely impressive, the kind of cheating is made possible because Guitar Hero doesn't have a dynamic timing judgement system. That penalizes not hitting notes on the frame a real instrument would like in Asian rhythm games. Doubled down with keynotes where the song notes are synced with your own presses. (so if you're off tempo, the guitar/percussion/synth/whatever is) So the moment there's a tap and note desync, it's over.
A lot of Konami stuff like Dance Rush and Beatmania has built in live cameras as well. So any editing or bad lighting would DQ your video to begin with.
That one part reminded me of matt mundane back it the day XD when he got called out for striking people on stream and he got cooked for like an hour and a half and just took it XD ah shit i gotta rewatch it

The only cheat I used in guitar hero was the one that unlocked all songs (I didn't have a second guitar and some songs were only unlockable in multiplayer and I had already cleared the single player campaign)
Well, I remember playing "Mother" at 100% on normal mode in like 2006 or something lol.
To give you an idea how different guitar hero and real guitar
I once ranked top 0.5% worldwide back in the days of gh3 and wt, but i couldnt even play a nursery rhyme on a real guitar. Inversely, SLASH tried for a month to beat his own song on GH3 (Welcome to The Jungle)... ON MEDIUM. And he still hadnt beat it 😂

If you're taking a gander at KarlJobst's content, I'd also recommend the TrackMania speedrunning one.
I have no skin in the game, on this one at least, but an older game, Beatmania IIDX, has also had issues with people faking results.

friend that played a ton of CS 1.6 was called a cheater a lot but he use to take part on CS 1.6 lan parties and tournaments and was able to prove him self that he wasnt a cheater where the ppl that made those claims and where always "gods" never even was able to reach his level when they joined those lan parties or straight out refused to join or made up some excuses xD "this was in the late 90s"
clearly the lan parties didn't have the right gaming chair so the "gods" couldn't show off their 'skills'

The fact he sat on what must've been $10,000 from bounties, never spent a penny of it, and never got any real fame for it, people outside the top of the community clearly weren't tuning into his streams, makes me wonder why he even bothered. Was it JUST an ego trip? Was he just some lonely dork chasing the interaction and praise? There has to be SOME reason for it.
Nah, people WERE tuning into his streams. He was very popular as a CH player. All his cheated scores were done off stream though so people wouldn't have been able to catch him live.
