Millions of dollars in unsellable goods.
Mission successfully failed, bois.
They thought of everything, except lining up a buyer.
@@StarboyXL9 and giving the owner of the boat an incorrect phone number.
For art theft? The items taken are specific and for previously-lined-up private collectors who are paying top dollar - they're not stolen at random.
@@facubeitches1144 maybe wait until at least five minutes into the video to say that.
@@DistractedGlobeGuy Well, I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express, but I have worked in that field, recovering stolen art.
Mr krabs sold spongebobs soul for 62 cents
Way too expensive 😭
Do you think he could have gotten more?
....Certainly thrice more than spongebob's monthly/yearly salary.
@@JD1337030damn it you beat me here! 😂
Look Squidward! Money!
Paintings recovered and the thieves walk, a rare win-win art heist.
To be fair, it took like eight years and the thieves didn't gain anything from it. The original thieves also did do prison time, it was just the ones who were given the paintings afterward to hold on to that walked.
10/10 will heist again.
This could be put into a Movie.
It was back in 2000, imagine how grainy and pixelated the black white footage was 23+ years ago.
4:25 said like someone who has first hand experience
On the "weekends off" for low-risk prisoners in Sweden (and Germany), I've heard in a documentary that it's also for prisoners at the end of loooong prison sentences, so they have the option to go out and interview for jobs for after they get released. Ya know, the whole re-integration into society thing, so they don't *have to* stand there at release penni-less and out-of-work, just on the edge of doing another crime just to pay the bills.
Also, in that same documentary, it was said that the rate of prisoners not returning or committing another crime while out for the weekend was miniscule.
Yeah because if you'd get caught after you'd get a longer sentence and less freedom and that's not really worth it if you have a short sentence for some minor stuff or are almost done.
I always wondered how that works. Like, does anybody feel awkward interviewing someone who's still technically in prison for rape/molestation/murder?
@@AnAmericanMusician People in prison for that don't get weekends...
@@AnAmericanMusician Those ain't low-risk.
I don't think those kind of prisoners can ever get weekends-off sentences. At best they can seek to go to the better prisons, but that requires good behaviour.
For example, in Norway, there's the prison island, where there are no guards and the prisoners have their own mini-society. Some of the prisoners there are guilty of murder, but they never try to escape because they invested too much just to get there, and other prisoners don't want someone else ruining their chances of early release.
@@AnAmericanMusicianThose are very serious and violent crimes. Ofcourse depending on what you mean by them. Non-violent sexual misconduct is not as serious as the violent kind.
I am swedish and i can confirm that even the weekend thing, is super accurate lmfao
hoppas ni har en bra dag icke svenskar :)
It's done in America too - Though often it's the opposite. You spend your weekends in Jail then are out for the rest of the week to work etc. Obviously only for lower level stuff
28:13 btw if no one knows chavezzslovakia (Robert) he and his wife skitten (she also voiced in IH's Jeff the Killer) make react content. They're pretty fun.
Silly swedish fellas
26:14 in a heartbeat if was part of a deal to get out of a practical life sentence. LOL
Oh this one is a hilariously fun time to watch.
Back then? nope, wasn't much security then.
Btw, Internet Historian has yet another channel called "Storymode" if you're interested
As a danish person. This is clearly swedish propaganda
Danskjävlar!
Small time prison in Sweden is just like American school fr fr💀

As an Swedish man i'm excited to see this video👌
Ay vi svenskar är starka tillsammans 💪
Lol that was amazing performance from Chavez
This is a good one
These mfs had prior records and most got a slap on the wrist if any punishment
Because nobody was hurt. They did do some property damage, but other than that nothing major.
The ones who got put behind bars were put into the medium security, so no more weekly strolls outside the prison.
I just discovered alana.....why do i feel like she is an art thief
...
They tried to negotiate with the police on my 2nd birthday
0:40 i give you one better, me and my friends loved doing shots of vodka with monster as a chaser, it was fun until one of us had a hearth attack and developed a hearth condition...
Chat went full bootlicker at the Thief ratting out his son.
The Dad ratted out the son true, but the son was facing Swedish courts, he had good chances and as you saw: he walked.
The Dad was facing US courts. He would have spent the rest of his life in the hole.
Now both of them are free.
@@AnonD38 in that context its actually a masterfull play rather than much of a betrayal, looking at it the other way what son wouldnt trade being annoyed by a few court cases to get their father out of a life sentence
Soft fluffy fox ears ❤
Depending on the county and country a sting operation can be considered entrapment.
It is what it is. At least there's a cool story to go with the painting I guess lol.
Which in my opinion is rather dumb as they would have sold it anyway if they had the chance. This is just trying to control the situation and retrieve the stolen goods intact.
@@LukasJampen In this case it does seem dumb yes, but it's down to the courts. I recall a case of manslaughter in the UK that was dismissed despite the man being on his 4th drunk driving charge, and nearly killing a girl and her mom.
The judge said he looked "genuinely remorseful" only for him to flip a camera off as he was leaving the courthouse. Same lady also allowed a woman who beat up another woman in front of her kids off scott-free despite drawing blood and traumatising them. It is what it is... I guess.
@@ectothermicThis is why Judges need to have some level of responsibility for the cases they preside over. I'm not saying throw them in prison over a single mistake, but they can't be allowed to give free pass after free pass without facing at least some repercussions for it.
Entrapment is when you solicit a person into committing a crime when they weren't the first party to show interest in them. Posing as a buyer for stolen goods when they already had and concealed them and were looking for a buyer shouldn't fall under that category i think.
"In Sweden, entrapment is considered illegal and is regarded as a violation of the principle of fair play in the criminal justice system. This principle is enshrined in the Swedish Constitution, which guarantees the right to a fair trial and the presumption of innocence."
Though entrapment should be considered soliciting the other party into doing a crime without their prior interest in the subject, no? These guys were concealing stolen goods and showed clear interest in selling them before the sting operation was launched. Kinda weird how they got away with that.
Let's go vtubers anime meta
Swedish laws are really light, looks like Brazil hahaha

I'm still trying to figure out what sundance rejects are.
I think sundance is like a cinema festival.
Short films that were too good for Robert Redford.
How come this chick knows about the the Swedish Prison and Probation Service here?
title confuses me, is this heist to steal a swedish art thief, an art thief in sweden or thief who steal swedish art?
SWEDISH ART THIEF: HEIST
It's the heist of an art thief who happens to be Swedish
It's always fun watching americans discover that other countries treat their Prisoners like humans.
Furlow excludes violent criminals and non-violent fellons, doesn't just exist in Sweden, needs to be earned through good behaviour and can be revoked through misbehaviour. Allowing criminals willing to rehabilitate to stay in touch with their families, friends and community has led to significantly lower re-incarciration rates across the board for every country that has instituted this policy without exceptions.
The Swedish judiciary and prison system is a joke. And the same applies to many other European countries.
Because American "slavery with extra steps" is so much better...
@@Irimu_ Yes, unironically.
@@Irimu_ If one "extreme" is a joke, it doesn't mean that the other "extreme" can't be a joke as well. Typical internet: just assume what I would have said about something I didn't say anything about.
@@Irimu_ If you commit a crime you deserve severe punishment.
Do you want convicted criminals serving time roaming your streets?
yes we do get prison leave every 3rd weekend if you sentence is over 3 months. If you come back with drugs or alcohol in your blood then you not geetting out next time and you going to the hole for 1-2 weeks. If you do something criminal and get cought you getting moved to a closed prison. 1 hr yard time for yourself a day and food through a slide in the door
