      I agree with you, but I do wish that we could choose not to take a lunch. I'm required to take an hour long lunch in the middle of my shift. I get vary little satisfaction from eating unless I'm starving and it throws off my whole work flow. It also means I'm forced to be at work an extra hour when I could instead go home an hour sooner and eat at home.

    Soylent and Huel remind me of synthfood presented in the world of Cyberpunk. Generally referred to as *Kibble* (yep, just like they wanted to call Huel), it *resembles* food but tastes like its' namesake, except worse. The upgrade to it would be a prepack, which has the same nutritional qualities but is 3 times as expensive and tastes better... by comparison.
    Except while in Cyberpunk synthfood exists due to nuclear conflicts, general lack of natural resources and mostly extinct animal species, *IRL we do it for dumb reasons like "easy weight loss" or to eat at work faster*
    Even grim dark future has a better excuse

    I drank Soylent for a long while because I was trying to supplement my diet, I have Ulcerative Colitis, so when eating is literal pain you want to experiment. Soylent is not that bad tasting really, as long as you avoid the Original and Strawbery flavors. Moca and Chocolate flavors were pretty good.
    Ultimately I stopped drinking it because the Soy was still giving me some low-level inflamation. And yeah, that shit isn't cheap either. I'm on a lot of immunosuppressants now that allow me to have a pretty normal diet, so it's not something I need to worry about now.

    • @SocietyTomorrow
      @SocietyTomorrow 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      Soy is inherently an inflammatory antagonist. That totally makes sense it did that to you. Not to mention that cultures that eat soy as a normal part of their diet consume a pretty low percentage of their diet in soy, whereas soy meal replacements contain way more than humans can normally tolerate. Add to that where modern soy varieties have such a high amount of xenoestrogens that it wrecks your hormones. Manboobs and ovarian troubles are being tracked as higher in correlation to high soy consumption.

    You can easily see that vegetarian industry is a profit-driven scum by the price of meat substitudes. They are plant based ofc and yet they cost two to five times more than the animal parts they are supposed to be replacing. Anyone with basic grasp of ecology, and even more so vegans that are supposed to use it as an anti-animal product argument, knows about the trophic pyramid, to go from a lower trophic level to the above have to sacrifice over 80% of the calories and most of the other nutrients (for example a grass meadow with a total biomass of 1000 tonnes can sustain less than 200 tonnes of herbivores which in turn can sustain less than 40 tonnes of carnivores), it's literally physically impossible for plants to cost more to grow than their weight equivalent of meat.

    • @sleepingArtist
      @sleepingArtist 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Yeah but you forgot that plants are very caloric low for humans, You would have to eat a lot of plants to replace the calories gained from eating meat

    • @nickkorkodylas5005
      @nickkorkodylas5005 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@sleepingArtist That's a pro husbandry argument tho, and it refers to grass blades and shoots and leafy greens that are low on exploitable caloric content by non-herbivore animals (and even some exclusive herbivores like giant pandas that do not have a long enough intestinal tract to efficiently digest them), it does not apply on legumes and vegetable oils that are used as meat imitation due to their high protein and fats content.
      Omnivores' objection to the ecological argument of vegans appeals to the degradation of natural ecosystems like grasslands, that can be used by herding animals, for the sake of growing specialized crops as nutritional compensatories to animal products,
      not that photosynthetic organisms aren't more energy and resource efficient than heterotrophs.

    Meal replacement is only a good option for people known to either 1- skip meals (very unhealthy) or 2- have made a habit of substituting a meal with fast food or vending machine crap. This typically happens because of a busy lifestyle, which isn't exclusive to just having a job. People who do one of those 2 things gain weight from it, and finding a healthy substitute for that behavior is what helps lose that weight, not from the shakes or bars alone. So, someone who already has healthy eating habits won't benefit from these things.
    Of course, you should also pay attention to the ingredients, sources, and credible certifications.

The gas most people complained about was due to it having a lot of fiber in it and most people not used to getting a daily requirement of fiber. Flavor was 'ok' but the texture was gritty and not great. They give you a scoop and a plastic huel drinking botttle that has a bit of a mesh screen on top to help mix it with the water when you shake it, otherwise it just got super clumpy. I stopped drinking it after i couldn't do coffee anymore.

      you shouldn't use them twice a day for weight loss. once a day is fine, make meals for the other 2. like, have regular breakfast, have the shake for lunch and then have dinner. you also don't need to have it every day. i used it for a long time and never once had a craving for real food but then again i didn't use it twice a day lol.

    I use different food "replacements". Basically I keep some packs as emergency rations and use them up before they get bad.
    Most of that stuff I consume when I get hungry at night, cuz its quick and fills you up. When I get the munchies an apple wont fill me up. I'd rather chug and go back to bed.
    Can't replace actual food. But it's a nice addition.
    Some even does not taste like soyslop shit.

      This is much more understandable. As someone who skips breakfast regularly (due to me being a lazy ass who wakes up like less than an hour before needing to go to work) this would be welcome for something filling but low in calories. But then again, at this point I've sort of gotten used to it.

      I used slim fast (not the healthiest but i didn't know that at the time) for weight loss. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. As long as you're getting all your nutrients and stuff that you would be getting from whatever meal you're skipping, it should be fine. just don't do it long term.

    A few years ago another company was making soylent, claiming to extract most of the components from the atmosphere with a few additives. But honestly, if you can give me a great tasting meal that has all the nutrients I need without having to kill anything, fine by me. We have a nutritional supplement called ensure, used for tube feeding. I use it to add nutrients to my intake when I am on projects. Because I forget to eat most of the day.

    It sucked ass and I gave up on being healthy for a while. Now I'm trying to cook more at home instead of eating out literally every day. Sometimes I don't have the time or energy but it's going mostly well.

    as far as meal replacements goes, i sometimes take some Boost or Ensure with my coffee, i just buy one pack a month cause otherwise i live on instant noodles with vegetables and canned meat or mac and cheese since i don't really cook.
    i started doing that after i was unknowingly dying from malnutrition by eating only instant noodles and that as 0% nutrients! my hard was falling in handfuls and was crunchy... after taking those meal replacements it stopped in 2 months and then started adding vegetables and meat in my noodles and started eating pasta like mac and cheese!
