Refreshing to see so many people actually appreciating how good this is.
And it's actually affordable. For those that can't afford it new, they can wait a few years and get a used one. Model S plaid is $90k now. So in 3-4 years, enthusiasts on a budget can buy one for $50k used.
True... there are so many EV haters out there who refuse to see the good. I hate how political it's gotten. Just appreciate the damn spaceship!!
@@MrAllthatgoodstuff Yeah but the Roadster 2 may exist at that time.
It's interesting that those who have it, drive it silently and love it while those who have never driven one hate it loudly

And then, there is the price. Better value compared to the other two. More efficient and the Tesla Superchargers are a plus.
In the US, with the track pack Included it’s only 105k!! That’s well spec’ed base taycan money!
@@underscorechaz "only $105k" 🥴
And the Autopilot/FSD, better infotainment, in-car Steam OS games, more space, more everything... It's insanely cheap now that the crazy 2021 car market is behind us. I spent over $140k all-said-and-done on a non-Plaid Model X. And that wasn't even at the height of the price bubble.
@@justrandomthings319 yeah, not 150k like the Audi, not 200k like the Porsche, not 250k like the lucid. They each have their own merits but not as bargains
@@ken830 we almost sold ours when it got that high; we preordered before the facelift was announced and payed only 10k more than current list price 😁
We need to appreciate the fact that all this has been done on a family sedan platform that is over 10 years old. Just wait until that new Roadster comes out. 🤯
I dont have to wait. I love my Model S and will swap that for the Plaid next year.
The roadster isn’t happening any time soon
@@MrSandChessno no no, it was supposed to have been delivered 3 years ago, maybe in another 3 years we will see an prototype?

You had 32 miles of range left and you still managed 0-60 in 2.3 seconds on a dead battery!!! Nice!
I think they did the test on a full battery. But the battery% doesn't hurt the 0-60 much since the car is super traction limited. It only impacts the top end. You get 1020hp as long as you are above 90%.
The gauge cluster reads 32 mi of range in the rain. They might have done the test at a higher state of charge, but it probably wasn't fully charged.
32 miles is like 25%? 😅

For $89k, you get a family sedan that can outrun $4M Buggati Chirons with near 0 maintenance, and 1/10th the running costs of your Camry 🥵
it's not outrunning buggatis lol. At quick launches, sure. buggatti's sucks at launches because it takes an eternity to build boost, but once it does there's not a car that can beat it. and as for quick launches, buggati is partly owned by rimac. tesla boys trying to find there own happiness lol
@chiranjeevikg7448 Instead of talking out of your rear end, maybe look it up? Plaids were ahead of Chirons up to 180mph.. after which the Chriron crawled by..

Started with the Tesla. Drove the Porsche and Audi and came back to the Tesla with a proper send-off. Tesla will continue to move the goal posts!
Let’s hope that they can learn how to fit body panels before too long
It's great they they took the negative feedback and produced something this good. Price isn't too bad either same amount for a small piece of carbon on a Ferrari.
Rimac moves the goalposts. Tesla just try and reach it.
@@BucNasty32 Rimac tries to make the most extreme you can with current technology and tires in prototype fashion. Thats great and cool but nothing in comparison to trying to mass produce an affordable sports car. Rimac makes prototypes, Tesla mass produces.
@@larssonk22 Yeah, the Tesla really is sitting at a great price.
One thing hugely underrated I’ve been noticing in recent videos. The sound design. There is cohesiveness between the persona of the car to the music and what the presenter is saying. This is not an easy thing to do. So many other channels miss the mark with cliche music for certain brands, models or county of origin, not here. Well done team.
Imagine thinking a tesla sounds good..lmao this page is a safe place for tesla owners thank god u didn't comment that on a car guys channel 😂😂
the tesla engineers really listen to their customers and coming from the normal plaid to this is a perfect example of
Shame about the indicator stalks then. Not seeing anyone agreeing that it's the best solution.
No they don’t. They listen to Elon and Elon says “delete, delete, delete “. So no rainsensor, no parking sensor, no buttons and no stalks.
@@RichardBrooklynOnly the folks in the UK have a problem with it. Here in the states it’s not a problem AT ALL.
@@RichardBrooklyni love how there are no stalks. Less is better!
@@Tegneaufreak Good. That just makes it harder to make a car. Do you really think they could sell a 90k car without innovating on cost? Yes. They don't have rain sensors but instead use the cameras and it isn't particularly good right now but they're planning a big update for it. Same with other stuff
Well, from a cost perspective, and for the performance you get as well as range, charger network, over the air updates, I'll take the Tesla. Simply, nothing touches the Tesla at the price.
Have you driven it?
The tesla model s plaid was 160k last year and now 89k. Model 3 is 20k. Biggest cost of owning a tesla is depreciation. Every average joe in the world has one its like a poor mans sports car now, its over saturated. Talk about depreciating assets at a historic rate.
Great video! For the record Model 3 Performance also has track presets and totally adjustable front rear drive percentages. Brilliant fun! And it’s great value!
Yes it does and they do virtually nothing to change the way the car drives, I’ve played with the adjustments on mine and unless you put it in drift mode, every configuration felt exactly the same
@@jameswillard1 put it in Fwd and watch it push you into a wall. its thrilling actually. felt a bit like the old integra
What’s even crazier - My Model Y performance has same Track Mode to send Power to the rear, family SUV! Changed from BMW to Tesla and I never looked back
@@sowajarek I know I have one of those as well as the 3P. Awesome cars! I never looked back either 😉
@@sowajarekyes, the YP got track mode as OTA in december 2022.
I picked up a 2023 YP Berlin and on the way home at the 28th of december it got an OTA with track mode.
I did have track model in 3P, that one also came as an OTA after I bought it.
Tesla also gave me increased power (5% more engine power), twice, via OTA... For free!
And a lot of other features, improved brakes, safety etc.
Thats one of the fun things with a Tesla, it always gets better over time, with OTAs.. Suddenly you have some new features you never know how you lived without :)
I rode in a plaid at the Fremont Tesla track, and its insane to feel, and you really cant put into words how it feels. But I've been in insanely fast cars and this isn't the same at all, its like a massive weight on your chest, and even that doesn't do it justice.
I know right? My P100D pulls hard, the Plaid is such a different animal. It just jumps and chases speed and makes 2150kg feel like a feather. It's absolutely mind boggling.
@@Frygisk The plaid is like 80kg lighter than the p100d while putting out 400 more hp and never runs out of steam. For road usage it is a big improvement but for dragstrip and track use... it is a massive upgrade.
It is truly unreal and very hard to describe. The moment you are done, you check your bank account and reserve one for yourself.
@DogDongDotCom yeah not if you rent one for a week and do a long distance trip through So California. It's a local car only.
I did the test track as well and had the same feels as it hits you right in the chest. I was thinking it would be like a roller coaster, but it's sooooo much more.
I love how the "rival" to the Model S is give or take $100,000 more expensive and the audi is 20-30k more expensive. And these numbers are just the upfront costs of the "equivalent" trims of these cars. The panel gaps are definitely horrendous... but you're willing to spend 20-100k more for less performance for better build quality? Insane!
Tesla probably saved the cost on those cheap sliding seats.
panel gaps are horrendous but, at the end of the day, fixable. It takes a lot of tedious back and forth but one can align them perfectly by playing with hinges and latches. It is irritating though. I did it myself over one weekend on my M3 because I dont trust Tesla to do it. It require great attention to detail and long hours of trial and error. It cant be done otherwise because one cant position/align and then tighten all the bolts - can only be done when doors or boot are open. Hence, it is a guessing game. Loosen up the lug nuts, move one millimeter in some direction, tighten up, close the door or boot. See how it looks. Rinse and repeat for like 50 times, until u are satisfied.
but why would you not want better build quality though, the Taycan and Etron are pretty quick compared to the average car on the road, and you will still be in a luxurious environment and better build quality.
Unless you what you want is to drag race traffic light to traffic light.
The Tesla is the best value for money EV out there though, can't deny that.
@@gledatelj1979 The seats are amazing for anything but the track. With the extra 20k you can get a top tier seat and fix the panel gaps and get ceramic coating and... you get the idea.
I thought the Turbo S starts like $180k without adding extras
Thanks for being honest Rory! We can count on you. So many reviewers love the drama and the old hate towards Tesla, they would never give this a proper review. Thanks!
This car is a marvel of engineering, it can do everything!
Too noisy? Whatever happened to the complains of the car being too quiet and having no noise? Remember, this is a family car that can do a little track stuff, albeit in an interesting way. Try taking the most track-oriented Porsche and put it through it’s paces of daily activities of a family saloon: fitting a family of five (and their luggage) comfortably, fitting the shopping with the family in it, being quiet so people can have normal conversations inside the cabin, convinces and expenses of daily use.
The complaints are road noise. Tesla says they're luxury but they're actually all econoboxes.
I owned one. The noise is terrible. Everything is really cheap for a car in that price range. You get Seat quality.
Can I say that the Model S is a great looking car? Especially these new wide body ones
Personally, I like the model s design à lot more than the Taycan
Yes
No
The only thing I like about this car is the fact that is has a round steering wheel and not that stupid yoke.
It really is a timeless beauty.
So cool to see a direct comparison to the Taycan and E-Tron on the track. Hopefully this changes some minds of those who still think Teslas are a one-trick pony. Just to clarify, this isn’t a special version of the Model S Plaid. It’s just a stock Plaid with the optional carbon ceramic brakes which help with repeated braking on the track (and unlocks the 200+MPH top speed). All Model S Plaids have the updated track mode software with better suspension tuning. After the recent huge price drop, you can now get a Plaid with the full track pack for less than the cost of the base Plaid a couple of months ago (and about half the price of the Taycan).
It's really the software, the tuning by engineers into the software. Everything else people could've done for less aftermarket. Just brakes & tires really.
No mention of price, the Model S Plaid is about 10x to 20x cheaper than compatible ICE cars
💯
1020hp Tesla Plaid Track Pack still 7 seconds slower on the Nürburgring than a 550hp Bmw M4 CSL of same price range.
@THEREALZENFORCE Tesla lives in your head rent free. I've seen many comments from you with negativity and the same comment quoting track times to the bmw. Give it a rest. It's childish.
@@ronin7645 Currently in 2023 Tesla did 40% less revenue than 2022 while VW Group sold 40% more Ev's than 2022. That is the reality
@@ronin7645 What is not childish is the huge worth loss of Tesla cars. 2019 Model 3 Performance being worth less than half it's value in 4 years while the Bmw M4 CSL is stable, so also the Porsche Cayman and my friends Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA went over 100k in worth in 2 years from 150000 USD to 268000 USD and first Plaids went from 140k to sub 100k to 70k used. Facts
The review seems a bit misleading. Track package only includes the carbon brake upgrade and some software tuning. The tires and wheel package is an additional option. The 3 electric motors wrapped in carbon are standard on the Plaid
I see all the hate about Tesla. I too hated the Tesla until I drove one and can say, it really has caught the Germans out napping. If you haven't driven one, don't dismiss it.
The only area that they need to really work on, is the build quality. Some of the fixtures and fittings are loose e.g. MY21 Model 3 armrest, and the knocking sound near the suspension over time. But if they can sort these gremlins, they will definitely be up there! Just look at their rate of development versus to 70-odd years of German car engineering and that just says it all.
And half the price of that porsche!
Using Teslafanboy logic : Price to Performance of a MG4 XPower is better than the Plaid. You can buy 3 MG4Xpower for the price of one Plaid
Porsche luxury car, Tesla a Dacia sedan with a powerful battery
Thank God it doesn't have the yoke steering wheel, they upgraded the suspension and sorted out the brakes. Personally, I prefer the Porsche, but for the money, it's quite the bargain. Great review Rory!
Compared to a Porsche, Tesla is is like something made by Fisher-Price 😀
A drab looking shaped box of plastic with doors and wheels on it, a bloated daffy duck Model Y and a fish-faced Model 3, neither inspiring, nor pretty.
Even the interior of Tesla cannot be more boring, with just a giant iPad in the middle. They make them so cheap; they don't even give you an entire wheel to use. Upper portion gone. No indicator stalk either. You cannot open the glove compartment without using the touch screen. They say, great software, but hits the kerb on parallel parking, no sensors.
Yup, super-fast they are, and most electric cars are, but who is going to go super-fast every time from one stop light to another with the back full of groceries or toddlers in child-seat, and speed limits everywhere.
@@harmony3138 you can get two Model S Plaid in the USA for the price of one Taycan Turbo S with options. The fact it has a normal steering wheel makes it better than the regular Plaid by an infinite amount of betterness 😂
The regular plaid also has the normal steering wheel now, as does the non plaid variant. You have to pay extra for a yoke.
Regular Plaid now is round wheel. Yoke has become optional on new Model S.
thvk the horn too like on the new model 3 steering wheel
@@geemy9675 They haven’t moved the horn in S/X yet. But given the obsession with manufacturing and supply chain efficiency I expect eventually they’ll replace the wheel to use the same as the new model 3 at some point, then it will also benefit from better button haptics and the camera shortcut button. S/X is made in Fremont, new 3 only in Shanghai for now, so might have to wait for California model 3 line to be updated before we see the new steering wheel on the S/X.

i've been fortunate enough to drive this car and omg, it's ruined every other tesla for me. the acceleration is brutal, having launched it, it's definitely sub 2.5 seconds and it does it with so much ease. i love this car, just know i probably wouldn't be able to afford it but value for money, amazing
The first time I drove a Plaid I punched it at 40mph and was doing 100+ mph in a stupidly short amount of time. That car basically made everything else feel slow.

They should make a Plaid R with bucket seats, more aggressive aero, better tuned steering and suspension and bump up the power a bit.. They could very well compete with the Lucid Air Sapphire with minimal updates..
I think Unplug Performance does the aero + suspension for Plaids. Keep in mind, they also sponsor Randy Pobst for the Pikes Peak hill climb.
They more than compete with lucid air sapphire, they leave them in the dust

So, the handling front and rear doesnt eliminate all power in front or the rear, but rather controls under/oversteer balance. The model 3 performance did this years before the plaid with track/drift mode and abundance of tire shredding power and torque. This is actual to heavy compared to the model 3 performance imo... If the m3p just had 200 more hp, it would all but eliminate the need for the fat wide plaid at track. I thought that putting the car into drag-strip mode and waiting for peak performance readiness took time because the batteries need to fully heat up. You said they need cool down. That seems incorrect or am I missing something.
Time for Rory to test the Sapphire.
Before they go bust
All Tesla brakes work just fine in normal use, what they don't do well is repeated hard braking such as you do on a race track in which case they will overheat. If you are overheating your brakes on the road you are a danger to other road users. If you're tracking your Tesla you should upgrade the brakes.
Same applies to all cars including a lot of sports cars yet people still need to be told, sad.
Say that again after watching Throttle House's Plaid vs 911 Turbo S and GT-R video. The standard brakes on the car are downright dangerous.
Except plaid track pack has different style brakes compared to all other Tesla's. So you're totally fine tracking a plaid track pack, as explained in the video..
@@snakeeyes9246 not very bright are you? When the price drops I'll add this to my 2021 Plaid. I trust it even at 54k miles to be dependable on the track. I already overpaid for it 1.5 years ago though. Plus, I can only race it at VIR nearby. My favorite track doesn't allow EVs yet.

Excelent review,,😊 thnx
The panel gaps are a complete non issue.
For you
Well as an ex employee who would have customers refuse delivery due to panel gaps.....after waiting a year for a X or S...... which are better than the 3 and Y by miles.....Tesla puts the cars with the WORST panel gaps in the showroom as display models because there are so FEW good cars lol with panel gaps........the interior gaps can be INSANE...the cars are around $30K overpriced but Rich people keep consuming trying to one up the other and that trickles down to the lower economic classes because why can't we have the best too? Well because you don't make enough money so we finance ( middle - lower class ) and get in debt just to get our share of excess.
Yeah on a 1996 Honda Civic that costs 900 bucks and has 6 different colored doors, sure 😅 on a 120k car, panel gaps need to be perfect. But we already know that Elon is more for himself than for the customer.
Mental🤯
the stirring wheel is round... i mean, thats normal yes but also something to take note of..
Much love! I recognize where you're driving from Gran Turismo 4!
The only tesla i like in looks and knowing they've added good brakes and suspension but i hate the panel gaps
What do you think about them making the new Model 3 look more like the S? I think it looks a lot better despite the cockroachy shape
It is not a gap but air deck.
No-one really cares about the panel gaps. Lots of "great" and famous supercars have huge panel gaps and nobody ever cared. It's just something the german car makers pushed in the press when they realised that Tesla had them beaten.
Good grief… panel gaps is so overblown. That’s like one of the only things the haters can find against Tesla.
@@shou635 Things against Tesla :
1. loses over half it's worth in a few years, way more than most brands
2. unreliable FSD, that is still at level 2 and only uses cameras no radar
3. cheap looking interior for a 90k to 110k car
4. Panel Gaps and outdated mid 2000s car look
5. almost no physical buttons, most stuff via touchsreen, no 360 parking view
6. vaporware selling and often lying cult leader (only a marketing genius)
7. gullible and toxic Teslafanboys (see comment section as proof)
8. Stock buyers who spread misinformation and try to overhype Tesla brand to make profit (see comment section as proof)

Removing indicator / gear selector stalks, no big horn button, select 'D' , 'R' etc via a touch screen, clearly ideas that an IT person dreamed up on the bus because nobody that drives a car everyday would think any of that was a better alternative. It is interesting the Tesla's coming out of China & Germany have build quality as good as any other brand yet the California plant still has issues even with their halo car.
Having said all that, I'd have one (shame about no RHD model though).
While waiting in Drag Strip Mode, batteries are warming up, not cooling down! The warmer the batteries the better the performance. That's why people hit "Navigate to a Supercharger" to heat up the batteries before the drag race. On the opposite side, the motors perform best when at lower temp.
Taycan and Audi aren't even in the same universe compared to the Tesla....
WLTP for the Taycan is 458km while the PLAID is 695km
Taycan also weighs more than the PLAID which is ridiculous since the model S is MUCH bigger.
That said,i drove the Plaid and it should be illegal on the street, absolutely ridiculously fast
Plaid range 345 miles, upcoming Audi A6 e-tron 400 miles.
Nio ET7 already 620 miles for some time now
Tesla seems to be a universe behind in terms of range.
"i drove the Plaid and it should be illegal on the street, absolutely ridiculously fast"
1) you men quick not fast 2) on the German Autobahn cars do way faster speeds
3) a Porsche 992GT3RS, GT2RS, GT4 a Bmw M4 CSL, M3 CSL, Camaro ZL1, Viper ACR, Lotus Exige, Ausdi TTRS ABT will easily gap the Plaid in twisty roads, even more on mountain roads where the Plaid might fall down the hill from the roadside. Also any modern 200 to 240hp 1000cc motorcycle once rolling start is as quick in a straight line and even quicker in twistys, the Plaid could not even keep up with a small cc KTM Duke 890R 117hp, The Superduke 1290 RR would obliterate the Plaid in mountain roads.
In the US ,Europe and Russia there are 1500hp to over 2000hp modded cars (Bmw's, Lambos, and others they obliterate the Plaid in acceleration, especially on rolling start and top speed and many are still road legal

Don't like the Tesla but I love this YT channel!
Tell them we need a Tv show
hey!! Is this the old Top Gear Track ???
I always trust Rory to be objective and he didn't disappoint. I also compared the Taycan to Model S and felt the same way. What really stood out to me about the new Tesla is how it keeps pulling. Even over 100 it feels faster than a 720S, and unless you're spending millions for a Rimac, that is truly exceptional performance from an EV! That I can almost get two Plaids now for the price of one nicely equipped Turbo S is just gravy.
Rory is the best!
To think that this is about half the cost of a Taycan Turbo S in the US is absolute insanity
And unlike taycan, it hasn't been recalled over fire risk.
Pretty cool this Track package. Too bad that not every model Tesla has this feature. My 2023 model Y LR does not have the Track option. Only the performance models, maybe they have better stronger suspensions and brakes.
Not that want to race or drift with my Tesla model Y, but it is cool to see what Track option offers. Tires cost too much for me to go and burn rubber off of the tires.
Anyway, thanks for the video. Take care.
This car looks soooooo dated lol. That Taycan will age like wine in comparsion to this Buick.
The battery on a taycan ages like milk thanks to their poor coolings solution for the pouch cells, tesla has tripple the warranty for 3x cheaper
No it won't. The price for used Taycan has completely crashed. You have almost have to pay people to take the car.
@@mortenkrogh8599 because its an EV. The Model Y depreciates more than an S Class lmao
I love Tesla. I love Rory. I love love this video!
What's really mind blowing the same 3 motors in this 4,700# track package Sedan.
Also power the up to 82,000# tesla semi, a vehicle which per mile per kwh used? Matches my 2019 f-150 in efficiency empty at 4,500# 😀
Imagine only needing one motor size, 1 stator size just with different processes for the c.f. wrapping, 1 inverter size, 1 gearbox etc.
To power your entire varied vehicle lineup? Imagine the cost savings that allows for.
And ease of replacement parts plus training of your tech's on repair, replacement or warranty work. First principles thinking indeed. 👍🏻😎
This and the trackhawk are my top two most wanted vehicles
Model S keeps getting better and better... they really need to work on their fit and finish, and some sporty seats for crying out loud
id like to see cheaper models get better too tbh
They should work on a brand new version of that car. Not some refresh with minor updates but a complete overhaul.
But its rivals cost 2 to 4 times more, weigh more, have way less power and features, plus no supercharging👀 I'm not paying double the price to have a car with no panel gaps. Also why are you complaining about the noise? I thought it was a negative thing to car enthusiasts that electric cars make no noise? You can barely hear the noise inside the car, let alone going 100mph on the track
"I thought it was a negative thing to car enthusiasts that electric cars make no noise?" Engine noise not fan noise. What a noob statement
Rory said it himself, the Taycan has way better handling and steering feel, and it has right hand drive for the UK market. Also, the point about the panel gaps is for the price that the Tesla is, it shouldn't have any just like other premium vehicles (such as the Audi/Porsche) i.e. you can forgive panel gaps on a $20,000 mitsubishi mirage, but not a $20,000 option package for an already expensive car
@@SirFlukealot expensive car? Bruh it's only $89k to get the second quickest car in the world. Plus it fully drives itself on all roads, is the smartest car out there and has a range of 400 miles
@@SirFlukealot well considering that the Taycans just had a global recall (again) for battery issues when it comes to quality y’all sure don’t seem to do research as to why people pick teslas. At least you know the drive train and batteries are reliable compared to other brands and honestly those other brands have tons of issues as well. Definitely would pick a model s over a Taycan for the price difference alone but hey everyone is free to have their own opinions but most people as the sales have shown will do their research before buying a brand that looks better on paper but is worse living with.
The Taycan Turbos S with options cost as much as two Model S Plaid's in the USA with less power, less range, less cargo space, not as safe, worse technology and weight 500lbs more lol. The Taycan has quality... Must be fun to go to a car show and talk about panel gaps to people; they must be really impressed lol.
Now we need Track Pack as a factory-installed option including upgraded seats (like BMW M for example) and proper controls.
When's the salt covered cart track package coming out? We need that in the uk.
Its really a semi-magical technology. It will really force the super/hyper cars to go EV, else they will never gain the performance crown.

The Rimac Concept One had the technology where you could choose between rear wheel drive, all wheel drive or front wheeldrive. In the Rimac Concept One the driver could choose which percent of power could go to the front wheels or rear wheels
Yes and was so unbalanced with it, it went off a road, crashed, and caught fire.
The nevera with 1900bhp is slower than a 500bhp Porsche around the Nurburgring.
If you detuned the Nevera to the same power as the Porsche it would really show how terrible the weight and chassis is.
No track enthusiast would take a 2ton ev with computers controlling everything for you.
Tesla’s track mode can do this as well. Anywhere between 100% front to 100% rear, or 50/50 split for AWD.
Dated inside and out. Soccermoms will still buy it hopefully, since the Model S Sales tanked.
