"no one has built an electric car as fast as exciting or interesting" ....... So basically Rimac Nevera is not exist in that world eh ??
Not for an average guy. Most people will never get in driver seat of that car.

It may be slightly faster, but I don't know if it's worth 20 plaids😅

I HAVE SPOKEN
Watching that record breaking lap, I just realized how scary quick that was. Also, with the silence, you actually get to hear quite a lot of things.
Also watch the heatmap at 14:45 it clearly loses power and he can’t complete the lap at full speed
He would drop another 3+ seconds
with the silence it's looks and feels like a videogame)
my brain can't believe it's true, especially in the corners
You can hear the tires struggling for grip...The sound they make gives you feedback on how much more you can push it. This is not possible with a combustion engine.
@@KCJbomberFTW That is because of his previous failed lap where he spun out. if that didn't happen he would be well under 1 minute 20 for sure!
@@lachlanB323 I don’t get why he hasn’t done it again
I really really enjoyed the none edited in the cockpit lap💯🔥
Yeah that footage was really epic!
It is amazing that the 2017 Dodge Viper is still top 3 lap time.
Petrol engines are battle-tested. At that time internal combustion engines were at the peak of evolution.
EV are trash.. Junk
Agreed! AND it does it using 150-year-old engine design that not only keeps up, but destroys these so-called cutting edge EVs... 🤣Tells you how right they were with the internal combustion engine, and how it is, and always will be, a relevant and viable option. No blood batteries on these hands!
@@pdiz imagine 150 years of development on the EV… I love myself a combustion engine, but your argument makes no sense.
@@pdiz More like 150-year old extremely basic design that's been iterated and completely evolved thousands of times into something much more complex. EV's have barely been in serious development for about 15 years and majority of that time ONLY by Tesla. EVs are barely even getting started and already eclipsing ICE in nearly every facet. Give it 5 years or so at most before ICE is destroyed handily in every dimension possible (primarily less weight through higher energy density).
Incredibly proud and excited to showcase the track potential of Tesla platforms with Rory Reid and Auto Trader UK. Being able to set the EV lap record alongside Rory made for an electrifying close to our filming together. Great driving Rory & Craig! There is still a lot more potential for even faster laps with Dark Helmet and our Tesla tuning programs!

So a stock manual acr on street tires was only 1 second behind? Now that’s more impressive than anything.
Yea I found it quite dumb how they trying to compare race car build tesla on slicks against stock street legal car.

Like Rory said, the tires make all the difference. "Comparing" two cars, one with and one without slicks, really biases things. Also, the more turns there are, the more that driver skill matters - the same driver should drive both, removing yet another difference and making it more of a true comparison between to specific cars. That said, for a shot at the lap record, nothing matters but the time.
Yes. Even with those modifications it wouldn't win against the plaid. The plaid holds its time for a reason.
This was an awesome time! Big congrats to Unplugged Performance for the crazy fast lap record! I wish I didn't have older Pilot Sport 4S tires on that day, it would have been very interesting to see how a set of the Z07 package Pilot Cup 2 R tires would have done...overall epic day!!!
I use Yoyo RRR all weather Racing Tires.
It would have been interesting to see your results if you drove Dark Helmet. I bet you would have set a track record as well.
Hey, have you ever heard of DSC Sport? I ask because it's the most fun tuning the Magride. They tune it to be compliant (soft), but I tune my cars for performance and road feel. I didn't care for their tune at all - but you can customize it for performance without killing the road feel. There is a lot left on the table. It is just the beginning but not history yet until it enters the 24-hour of le mans racing.
It’s a highly modified Tesla, with tens of thousands of dollars put into it, against stock vehicles. And the modified GT2 RS, that held the lap record, wasn’t driven by a profession driver. Also, this Tesla is a track only vehicle. All the other cars can be driven on public roads with no issues. I don’t see this as a fair comparison at all.

Awesome time from an awesome car! But did the Porsche GT2 RS and Viper ACR also run on full racing slicks?? If not, the comparison is not really fair.
Nope, and they where running factory aero... No add ons, and none of the pikes peak bs the black had. So race tires, and over double the aero and full roll cage. Sure its fast, but it needs to be compared to a Porsche 911 RSR, or the GTE race team car.
@@spazz954 For info :
The GT2 RS came equipped with the Weissach package, including the magnesium wheels, specific Cup 2 tires, and plenty of carbon parts.
The tested version costs $345,300.
The Viper ACR came with the Extreme Aero package, which delivers 1,700+ pounds of peak downforce at top speed through a massive adjustable dual-element carbon fiber rear wing, rear carbon fiber diffuser, unique SRT hood with removable louvers, detachable extension for the front splitter and additional dive planes.
Spring and anti-roll-bar rates were increased and the ACR was fitted with forged aluminum wheels and track-ready race tires.
how many laps before the it needed recharge?
Interesting...🤔
But how does it stack up against the McMurtry Spéirling Fan Car?
AMB Aero did a fantastic job developing that whole entire aero package. Well done Unplugged!
Nice comparison. I wonder how a cheaper (relatively) Aerial Atom would do around those corners.
So it doesn't matter if you start counting the lap from standstill or when crossing the lap line at speed?
Cara Bonita sponsored on the rear wing!
Nice South Park connection there.
Absolutely insane.
The front splitter scraping th the ground under braking can’t be good for underbody aerodynamics. You’d be shifting the center of pressure drastically under braking every time.
I don’t think you can change the suspension mounting points for more anti dive geometry, but maybe stiffer suspension is needed
Stiffer suspension in the front probably means more understeer
Thing looked super twitchy under braking. Doesn't look fun to drive.
Most gt cars also scrape, you just barely notice because of the engine noise
That's weird. I don't know how the laps are timed, but Jeremiah from Donut went around that track in the WRX Hi Car in 1:24.

A heavily modified Z06 would have been a better test. But agree, nonetheless a huge achievement for EVs--it's shows just cause you replace the engine (EV vs ICE), the dynamics can still be addressed to make an extremely, possibly better fast car.

Now that we know what it can do at 100% battery, I'm curious what it does at 10% battery. How much performance loss is there as you go through the battery? Like let's say it can do 20 laps on a battery, what do those times look like for each lap as the battery drains?
you'll probably be a couple seconds slower on 10% as you might not have enough power for the thermal management or something or other
100-200 horsepower loss is a pretty big deal
it was already throttling HARD at the end of the first lap.this car would might lose a 10 lap race against a civic. well, maybe not if the driver manages heat carefully. but it will at least have to slow down so much to keep the battery from burning up that it might as well be a 400 hp car
Depends on the battery overhead. If the inverter is 400V and the fully charged battery is 440V, it won’t throttle until 75% SOC or when the battery hits 400 volts at wide open throttle. Dead flat is around 280-300 volts depending on what is in the management system. At 300 volts the motor may be getting 75% of the peak power the inverter can provide. In reality, 300v is close to 0% SOC it would be more like limp home mode because of the electronics trying to save the battery
Still amazes me that the Viper ACR stock with a manual was only .16 seconds behind a modified GT2 RS with a PDK.... shows how unbelievable that Viper is!!
The fact that this lap was far frlm perfect is crazy. He smashed that shit with an unclean lap yo
I'd like to see Dark Helmet running at Nürburgring
Would probably do similar times to GT3/GTE/ whatever class those Porsches and Lambos are in the Nurburgring 24h.
Would be interesting to see, but I suspect it'll be massively down on charge and power and probably in battery cooling mode by the time the long straight comes in, so it'll be robbed of a lot of performance and laptime there.

Petrol V12 doesn't lose performance if the fuel tank is 66%.
That is true, technically it goes faster with a lighter tank. But a petrol V12 is also a BITCH to maintain, and racing it takes years of its life. Launching one is so traumatic to the motor & transmission that companies limit how many launches you can do before you void your warranty. EVs don't care - launching and racing doesn't hurt the motor one bit.
The battery started to overheat at 1:02 and clearly affected accerlation down the straightaway.
