Every new BMW makes me love the previous models more and more
i agree, though with this car i really like the rear and side profiles, just the front i dont really like at all
If you'd ever driven a 5-series, you'd know, there are only few cars in the market which perform so well over multiple generations like the 5-series does.
Old models will skyrocket in value
@@dampmakythe main problem is not the looks lol
Not with F90
While it’s good to hear the mention of no acoustic glass and the wireless charging only being on one side, I’m surprised reviews like this don’t mention all the other missing features that previous 5-series’ had, like no soft close doors, no ambient lighting on the rear doors, no seat back pockets, no door sill plaques, no comfort access on the rear door handles, etc. It seems like BMW has stripped out a ton of features for cost cutting
Like most BMWs, those will gradually be added in as options as time goes by
All these 5 series videos popping seem very similar. they're not proper reviews. More like first impressions.
Once the full range is released we'll start seeing thorough reviews.
They might be subscription only though. 🤣
looks like a skoda btw
And yet it is slower than Tesla model 3 perf
Anyone else getting Skoda Octavia vibes from the styling?
no?
The head of design at BMW is from Czech I think. Explains the styling
Yeah. That was the first impression it gave me.
Kia K5
The only reason I clicked on this vide was because I thought it was a Skoda review. Disappointed to find out that it was a BMW :D
If "one of the best things" on a car is an "ambient lightbar", doesn't that raise any questions? It's like buying a new mobile phone because it has a better camera, but the main function, making a call, is just like any other... Where did we get lost on the purpose and function of things?
Well said! Reminded me of the primary problem with our modern society is that things were meant to be used and people to be loved.
Instead rampant consumerism has us loving our thing's and using people.
Because the smartphone, despite being sold as a phone has been a computer for twenty years.
Edit: I'm going to imagine that you haven't read old road tests, because posh cars have sold on the marquetry, leather and carpets for decades.
@@grievuspwn4g3 Correct! "That's outrageous for a phone!" Says someone who doesn't realise it's also a note taker, a dictaphone, a gaming system, an emailer, a camera, a camcorder, a web browser, a pedometer, an alarm clock and a sat-nav. If you think how much you'd paid for all those things individually before the age of the smartphone, then you're getting a pretty good deal.
@@grievuspwn4g3 those are (besides the woody bits, I admit which are a luxury) features to get you from A to B with a driving-experience that aims at comfort, those are not gimmicks. What's the genuine added value of having an "ambient lightbar"? Besides a distracting toy to show off?
And yes, a smartphone does lots of things - albeit in a mediocre way. If you want really good pictures, you buy a real camera. That does just that. Do 1 thing the best you can.
I guess I would rather have a Caterham 7 than this... I know, different use... But driving from an experience point-of-view? Yes.
Really, disco-lights on your dashboard? They could tune things like that down, in my honest opinion... even after this short period in the E-age, the car-industry is lacking true innovation. Instead, they throw these gimmicks at us to sell "new" cars. But they forget that a transtunnel is obsolete...
That sums up many car reviews nowadays.
"it feels this - it feels that"
I have an interest for the product, not someone's personal emotions towards LED lights...
I like how 4:49 the tail lights already have condensation that will shortly kill the led lights. Nothing majorly changed from f10 times xD
Is that condensation on the inside? I looked but I'm not so sure. If it is on the inside, then that's pretty bad :-(
This looked so much better than the ones i've seen with a lighter bodycolour.. everything just blends together a bit more.
But can someone please tell all manufacturers that pianoblack isnt a sign of luxury, it just looks cheap! And that goes for both interior and exterior...
Too true - it looks like the plastic from a box of Cadbury's Milk Tray.
They do it on purpose. They know that after 5 years it is going to look scratched up.
They do it because it was the hot shit 10 years ago and a lot of buyers still think it is.
Must be cheap, it’s all over my eNiro 😂😂.
Giant infotainment screens and digital dials
£97 THOUSAND POUND?! I almost choked on my coffee and spat it out 😂
Welcome to 2023 car prices - they have increased since the 1990's !
This is cheap in compared to AMG products. The 4-pot SL AMG is 110k 😂😂🤡
@@peterhammer4644 - Exactly !
When you think about it that is ridiculous. A 5 series is meant to be a good choice family car. Yes an M5 is the high end version and the electric M5 is top monkey, but it’s a fucking BMW not a bastard Porsche 911 GT3 RS ffs 😂
In fact when you think about it properly, when this thing is optioned out, it’ll top £120k??
They have managed to turn the finest looking model in their line-up into an oddly proportioned far-eastern design... Kudos to BMW....
frankenstein
no coincidence I think that over there is one of BMW main markets
They are selling boatloads of iX, one of the ugliest recent BMWs. Not just in China but also in US. Sadly, this means we can expect more 'visually-challenged' successor models from BMW
The 5 series has always been the base for their line up. Unbreakable, understated and refined. Nowadays.....
At least it's not as ugly as 7 series.
I'm going to hold on to my 2019 3-touring for as long as possible.
One of my cars is a plain jane, E39 525i m sport in silver metallic. Over 400 000km on the clock and you can still be sitting there and forget you have the engine running. So smooth. I'm not even the primary driver of it anymore, but it is peak BMW in my opinion, behind the m5 version.
The 5 series has always been classy - but I cant get over the fact that it's as long as an S-Class from the 90's!
It’s bigger than a 2008 7 series
The front looks like a Skoda Octavia after a head on collision
Watching Reviews of E-cars launching from 0-60 feels like watching the same iPad review over and over again...
At least the BMW designers haven’t ruined the look unlike the 7,2,M3 and that weird SUV thing I don’t even know the number 😂
i'm probably in the minority but i actually prefer the look of the new M2 over the old one. the old one was, in my opinion, too curvy and rounded for such a small chassis.
@@fafiteee Didn't like the M2 when I saw pictures but when you actually see one in person it definitely looks better than people make out. Just a shame about the weight....
this is ruined way more imo
dont buy bmw save money
The X7 with the front lights?
Looking forward to the touring. Do the PHEV's have a "step" in the boot?
CarPlay is a must have for me. Ditched my S for an i4. Love it. And like the look of this.
Awesome review.
Who ever designed the dash Is still having trouble with The square peg round hole dilemma
It’s never too much keep up the work bmw I love these M’s especially the g80’s
Great review mate
Its like BMW doesn’t want to make good looking cars anymore 😂
Looks great. I have an iX and the motorway cruise and lane change is impeccable. My Tesla M3 was dangerously bad.
So the best thing about this £100k BMW is the £9.99 LED lighting that matches your driving mode! I think I'll pass.
Can someone explain is the floor in the interior of the petrol version lower than the electric, because of the missing batteries or not?
You do great work
I come to these for the cars & leave with fashion tips. My boy looking fresh as always 😎
Why does bro have on a jacket with the United States Army, Special Forces patch on it? 😂😂
It’s just a military style jacket..
Anyone know what that lever is that Rory presses at 16:23 and what the orange flashing light does? Never seen that before on a BMW.
I have had several 5 series in my lifetime however Iv got to be honest now my kids are a lot bigger , with me also being 6ft 4 I find the rear leg room to be some what of a joke . As a daily car for just me absolutely loved the recent new hybrid 5 series bmw I had on loan but as a family car - I didn’t work for my family.
You are just a great demonstrator Bro.....
The Frozen Deep Grey looks great in all times of the day!
Great video Rory. Really wish they’d made the car look more exciting, the back end reminds me of a middle aged Jag XF and gloss black plastic fanatic swirl mark magnets are going to look dated very quickly.
Outstanding car, back to the top of the tree with this model again. Clean sweep.
Why not just get a 7 series with a screen in the rear because it's the same interior accross the range and the rear screen ultimately sets the 7 apart from the rest.
I have the same cat food on my computer desk. Trippy.
So much space for Aircon controls replaced with a touch bar for 3 hard to press buttons.?
I hate new BMW interiors. I have a BMW E91 single hump, and the interior is still TIMELESS. I was looking to get an X5, but the new screen is a deal breaker.
the cameras around the car should record when you drive, and at the end of every trip, with some magical editing technology Make a little film of your driving like your a getaway driver.
Great review Rory. Seen a few reviews of BMW’s lately and the thing I take most from them is the cost. So expensive. Would have been interesting to see how much this one cost with the extras. But starting at £97,000. For a probable 250 mile range with a light footed accelerator is just nuts. Yes the car is lovely inside but……. No acoustic glass. Odd.
The sad thing is: Mercedes is probably still more expensive
The used/nearly new market is so strong right now because no one wants to pay the inflated price for new. Not worth it at all.
Strange - my 2018 530e X-Drive does have acoustic glass. Not sure that's on the driver side only - I'll have to check. Mine's a US market car so maybe it's different on the UK market side.
Not keen on the grille ...looks like a pair of sunglasses...😎
As someone who just tried one out yesterday, it's a very nice car and I'm not a huge fan of our new vehicles once they're announced right away. But this one is all better than the previous and I really like the previous five series. If not it is my favorite 5 series ever
I think one wireless charging port "Problem" for the heating issue maybe. if there is not an option to add specs for additional cost
That kick for trunk opening is the stpudiest feature car makers developed
👍🏻 Thumbs up simply for the cats mate! Yayaya the BMW is nice too :D
Hey Rory I loved the review but I need some help I am looking to buy a Honda eny1 but my wife thinks I should get a Volvo xc40 recharge can you do a review on the Honda eny1 and possibly the xc40 recharge and say which is better?
When did the grill light become iconic?
Selfies at the start of a road trip are a tradition for us
Interaction Bar?! Come on BMW. Those touch screen buttons and haptic buttons on the panel look terrible I thought bmw would have learned VW’s lesson with these awful controls
Nice but not enough range!! Dallas/Ft.Worth area of the U.S. Great work, Mr. Reid. 🤗😉
I want to see the 530 and 540i versions. I hope we get those in the UK.
Always a good day when I get a notification from AutoTrader❤
Rory, i just bought out my 2021 M5c. The last petrol head M5...Can you please tell Autotrader, to appreciate the value of this car. Im taking it to 100k miles and need a good resale value. Cheers 😁
Do I understand correctly that there’s no ambient lighting in the rear doors? Interior looks cheaper than previous gen overall, at least on video.
Cheers mate
i think hans ziemer finally nailed it. that car sound like an electric car, not just some gimmick
😂
Thanks Rory nice review, just from listening to you reviewing and analysing this car I'd buy it. You've given an un biased review.
Did my valuation on my current 2017 kia
Just need to find £90k down the back of the sofa to buy this bmw with no extras😊
The sound effect was a nice touch for the intro😂
I like my cell phone battery powered.. and I don’t drive a cell phone. 😂
I'm impressed with the video quality ✨
Great review Autotrader❤
The TURISMO watch looks fantastic 😍👌
That lane change was done perfectly by Lexus LS in 2014 in Japanese version.
In a way, this reminds me of a Merc E class. Atleast in the proportions. No sleek elegant lines, and the shorter rear end
The rear lights look like those on the Mercedes C class around 2010 😂
Nice review Rory, Very nice car. Really think its about time BMW used Rory as its test driver. A lot of the negatives that would be easy for BMW to correct, if only they knew. I mean, on such a premium car, a single phone charger! No acoustic glass! BMW Please Ask Rory next time.
Grill size is just perfect being an ev though not over done
Thanks Rory for the review
5:44 if it’s the “quietest mechanism” shouldn’t it be not audible rather what you’ve heard? 😅
6:30 “Everything feels nicely put together” the screen moved from what looks to be a tiny amount of pressure
Nice BMW EV I5, I like BMW's minimalist dashboard screen. I like the glass buttons. I think this is not a true EV, it is a gas car with an electric motor and battery. The car's aerodynamic is not pro-EV.
Rory has cats? I love him even more now. 🐈
Conversion from mph to km/h would be nice. You have a global audience.
Quiet and quick. Very relaxing. Love it. Sending the car hard is not advised when you drive with your family :)
Transmission tunnel is there for combustion engine versions. Duh!
Be great to see what the m5 touring is like
Aesthetically sharp - as I, for one, love the daring evolution of BMW’s lineup 🔥
It looks like a consumer electronic product, not a car. Zero emotion in the design, just 3D shapes and lines that goes in different directions. It looks like a computer designed it from brief to execution. But to each his own, I guess
I agree, looks really sharp!
Put a G30 LCI beside it, then youll find the new one looking really shit.
This isn't Carwow, but it's cute and quaint.
That variability in the capable mileage would do my head in .
Just in.
Previous models about to skyrocket in value.
I don't think 81kWh is enough in this segment, particularly given that it's almost certainly much less efficient than a Tesla. People want Tesla alternatives that are a bit more "solid" and more conventional looking, but not at the expense of range. As far as practical, fast, efficient, electric saloons go, the upcoming Model 3 Plaid (or whatever they call it) is going to be hard to beat. Recent "Highland" improvements to cabin refinement and suspension, rumoured to be further improved in the new model, ought to move the game on. I understand that there are loads of people who hate Teslas, but I suspect many of those people will also stick with the fossil BMWs as long as they are available. It's a shame BMW dropped the ball so badly after the incredible i3.
Agreed. The i3 was way ahead of it's time and now BMW are trailing behind. They completely butchered their headstart in the EV game.
Although I can't stand the new Model 3 for how cheap it is. Not a single button, knob, stalk or lever in sight and they call their severe cost-cutting being "minimalist".
I’m on my third EV the second one was a BMW i3s that I loved. There are many reasons why I couldn’t live with a Tesla.. No Apple Car Play of Android Auto, No rear wiper, No HUD, not fully adaptive headlights, limited colour choices, model S & X not available in RHD, no option for 22 kW AC charging, wouldn’t drive one without indicator stalk. In 2013 they were miles ahead, not so much in 2023. Don’t get me started on the parking sensors delete the self parking is a joke in comparison to other makes.
@@garrycroft4215 The BYD Seal is an interesting Model 3 alternative which addresses a lot of your objections. Its only drawback seems to be slow fast charging (and being Chinese, which seems to bother some people).
@@johnl.7582 I should have said my third EV I bought on the October 4th, it’s the Smart #1 Brabus at £43,450 it’s not cheap until you look at the performance and six pages of kit that comes as standard. In fact there are only two extras , a tow bar and flat paint both I don’t want. The Mercedes dealership I bought it from also does BYD I’m sure that they will do very well.
I certainly agree, in this class they should offer in the realm of a 100kWh. Though based on my experience these BMW EV‘s, so far I‘ve driven the i7, iX and i4 are actually quite efficient, in case of the i4 even matching results of a Model 3.
Here in Florida, the range will not be a problem at all.
Nice electric M5. They seem to be a little shy though they are swimming in the deep end. Benchmarks and references will be its attributes.
While I’m not ready for an all electric car just yet, BMW did a great job on this car. I wish there was an M560 version.
No buttons. Here come the subscriptions for the most basic functions..
The side profile shape at the front and rear are quality strange. Slight wedge as opposed to the overall brick shape we’ve come to know in the 5 🤦🏾♂️
ITS BEAUTIFUL
"That seems to be working, there's a man catching a fish" 😂
I really like it!
Long gone are the days of conservative, time-less designs. BMW is targeting a different, younger demographic (despite wondering how younger people could reasonably afford a vehicle like this without stressing their financial situation).
They aren't targeting a younger generation, all of this design is for the Chinese market which is now BMW's largest at 32.3% of sales. US and Germany combined are only 25%, for perspective.
I think you will find the hv battery takes up the space in the transmission tunnel Rory so you have to buy smaller chocolate bars.
this color make this car look amazing, ngl.
Where I live in Australia the on road cost of this vehicle is around $220,000! I thought I spent too much when I paid $90,000 for a Tesla Model 3 Performance. But pay an extra $130,000 for the extra tech and 'luxury' finish in the BMW? Nuts.
Exactly you bought a Tesla a plastic American cheap product that is not comparable to this car. At the end of the day they are both electric cars and that is crap.
Those not tactile buttons and tiny icons are ridiculous, no Audi would be like this. But I did like the take-off anticipation mode. I've seen enough.
BMW and myself have something similar, hard to love but once you do, it's hard to stop loving it. 😊😊
What watch is Rory wearing?
Parece um carro de menor valor, acho a geração anterior muito mais elegante.
I have to say these infotainment system menus are an eyesore! So many icons, going on the screen. In the real word you would have to hunt for what you are looking for while driving and it would be no different than looking at your cellphone while driving. Also, I wonder why car manufacturers don't integrate sensors into the fake vent areas of a car instead of being big eye sores. Like literally BMW has two giant "kidney bean" areas where they can just have two matching hidden sensors there instead of having a giant ugly rectangle in the middle. I'm sure they could figure that out, but nope it just breaks up the grill bodylines.
Their supplier would have to make specific sensors for them which would drastically increase the vehicle's price which is already in the "wtf" region.
Is this some sort of Frozen Carbon Black?
One of the movies was "Christmas Staycation" 😂
From €70,844 for a 520i in Ireland, they are losing their minds 🤣. I guess this is the end of seeing a BMW 5 Series on every corner of the street.
The "ultimate driving machine" that can practically drive itself. 😊
