The brake test is highly inaccurate given that you count and then stop. Sound takes time to travel through the walkie talkie and be processed by the receiver, then they act on the countdown. It would be more accurate to use a physical barrier or even measure the feet it took to stop from when the brakes were applied. I can tell the other driver does not start braking until about 1 second later after the Tesla has started braking. You can also try with the other driver doing the countdown so it's not one sided.
JFC these guys like to hear themselves talk. Do yourself a favor and just skip to 3:45.
You definitely need the Plaid Track Pack.
wtf does Turbo mean on a Taycan? Does it blow the electrons faster??
Wait on the tri motor taycan turbo gt ;) when the taycan and the tesla both had dual motors.. the taycan too this day is the fastest dual motor EV created. So just imagine when porsche has the same motors as a tesla .. the taycan turbo gt already posted a 7:07 around nurumbring

11:14 In the brake test it was clear that the right lane had puddles of water and the left lane was dry. Why didn’t you switch lanes between each brake test? That absolutely would have made the difference.
Second test didn't have puddles. You have brake regen on the Tesla. The electric motors are using engine braking to recapture energy.
@@DroneStrike1776Basically every car's breaking is not limited by the power of the brakes but by the grip of the tyres (when doing a single hard stop). Bigger brakes make the difference in repeated breaking

Per car and driver the m3 and m4 brake better then the regular tesla model s plaid
Car and driver doesn’t get paid by Tesla, so I really don’t care what they say. The brake test doesn’t even matter to anybody, except the people that get out run by the Teslas. Do you ever go to the track and see how quick your car will stop?😅 put a tow hitch on that BMW like the model S has and let’s see who can pull the most weight in a quarter mile the fastest.
The Wrigley Performance G80 is definitely one of the most consistent 1000+hp S58s I've seen on youtube. It's not constantly going into limp mode or misfiring like some other heavily modded M3s are
Yeah, No. I’d argue S58NYC and Mpowerhouse is way more consistent and way faster.

Wouldn’t be close on the same tires. Plaid weighs 900 lbs more.
Why? That isn’t what the Tesla is built for is it?
@@DeanoEV60 neither car is built for the track. Unless you have the TRACK PACK plaid which is (it has special track tires in addition to the brakes). The m3 cs isn’t a track car either but closer (they don’t have track tires either) than the standard m3.

I was about to say once you said the Plaid did a 10.2 1/4 mile I knew something was wrong.

Electroneum brotha. I helped start tht company
The plaid was faster than other cars because it has 1000 hp, but now with this BMW that has the same power things are different 😂
The Plaid has beaten other 1000+ hp petrol cars relatively easily due to the instant and flat torque curve of the EV motors as well as no need to shift along with superior traction control offered by electric motors. So the fact that hat this 1000 hp M3 did this well is hugely impressive.
This m3 has more than specified powe
The guy went off to get race fuel…. 😂
Keep in mind the weight, and although its very benificial that ev's don't need gears, they do allow for more low end torque and higher top speed, with the downside of having to shift and work into the powerband.
But the main pro is that the tesla is able to do that stock, while the M3 needs special fuel and huge mods which will compromise its reliability.
M3 was very impressive but still i wouldn't buy a gas car for the speed, but for the engaging driving experience. Ev's are also egaging but while gas is engaging with the car, ev's are engaging with the road.
Cause the BMW is way lighter
That M3 is outrageous what a build
Wouldn't have been close if it didn't have ethanol and other special fuel though...lol
Very fast for an M3 to do 9.7 quarter mile times on a greasy track , I reckon both cars will do 9.4 quarter times if the track was a proper drag circuit

Completely agree.

They raced this car against a completely stock, untuned 1000cc motorcycle. Yeah... a heavily modified car beating a motorcycle from a stand still isn't surprising.
I disagree u talking about 1000hp Tesla plaid that have way more advantage than any gas car out there .. no traction issue it’s electric just press and go
1000hp against 1000hp, so what`s your problem???
What break mode was the tesla in? Because there is advantage with the tesla will auto slow the moment the accelerator is released or lighten for that matter
That's some great racing. Very closely matched cars.
What battery % (SOC) was the Plaid?
Glad you do 1/2 mile tests which takes some of the launch reaction time out of the equation. The brake test should be a fixed point and not by voice. 10:29
Plaid without the track pack begins to limit power around 150mph, everything after the quarter mile in the plaid is governor limited
Theres something not right about that M3 braking, it wasn’t dipping its nose at all
@@P10634 I had thought this one had the "unlimited" track pack. Okay.
For real.. by voice for launch and stop. There's obviously an advantage.
Would be cool to see a track pack Plaid re-race. Also would be helpful to know what the state of charge is on the Plaid, even though it shouldn't make too much difference if it's above 50%.
Top end it matters quite a bit under 70%. The top end being 163mph is why it lost half mile race and why he lost by a few cars in the roll race.
Track pack only gets carbon ceramic brakes. No increase in hp or torque
@@spamansh1710And also an increase in top speed. The normal Plaid hit its top speed before the end of each race.
@@vasil7410 yes forgot to mention it. The carbon ceramics help it to attain a higher top speed. Because you need stronger brakes to come to stop at a higher top speed.
@@TB-vb3ov This is misinformation. The 163 mph is simply a hard software limit by Tesla since the car does not have the Track Package from Tesla, which uses tires rated for higher speeds as well as carbon ceramic brakes for improved stopping. With the Track Pack installed, the software unlocks the full top speed to 200 mph. On top of that, the Plaid motor is less sensitive to voltage, so it doesn't matter much with lower SoC. The flat power rating comes from using a different magnetic laminate design internal to the motor as well as carbon overwrapping to minimize the rotor-stator gap, which lowers the back EMF of the motor. This allows it to maintain a linear power curve up to about 18,000 rpm.
cant find any reference on price, how much does the bmw cost compared to the tesla in this video?
a standard m3 comp already costs more then a plaid and then the bmw only has 510hp for 113k euro

I roll raced a plaid last year and they run well. Definitely a stout package but I prefer the sound and feel of any combustion engine.
Looking forward to the days of hybrid turbochargers.
@Anotherboost -
I had a Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid. It was super fast and fun. Never needed to “plug-in” charge, the battery stayed recharged when you ran the engine. It’s simple and convenient, and I don’t understand why hybrids don’t receive the majority of the EV hype, rather than straight battery EV cars ?? It just doesn’t make sense. BTW - I’m a hard-core petrol head. Traded in the Cayenne TEH for a “fire breathing” Cayenne Turbo GT (which holds it’s own against the Tesla Plaid w/ track package).
You should have changed the lanes in brake test. The other lane was clearly more damp.

Damn, those cars are so evenly matched. Almost equal HP, 0-60, quarter mile.
The M3 needs “special sauce” and I don’t know, with so many moving tuned parts, if it holds many powerful starts before breaking something. For a Tesla, that is kind of normal, for a modified car like the M3…luck is kind of important.
@ricarmig The Tesla requires 19 minutes just to load up. Plus, there are hundreds of thousands of parts in it, which means the M3 will hold more powerful starts for longer. Plus, it will be faster as well. The Tesla could not even run a 9.7 initially while the M3 could. It is consistent.
They are not. This BMW stands no chance. It has similar power. But LOOK AT THE WEIGHT DIFFERENCE. Put an electric drive train on a lightweight platform. And it's over. Not even a contest.

@@Matt.e_Black ya a almost 2000hp hyper car is no joke it can beat a cherion super sport m8 and i know it can go 300mph but thats only 50more mph than the rimac but i think they can update that with software to add 50 mph to it XD
I'm not sure lens technology has developed to the point where you'd get the two cars in the same shot after the first couple of seconds.
@@Matt.e_BlackRuns mid 8s stop capping
@@Matt.e_Blackare you high? Why don’t just say high 5s, or even 3s? do you mean that or you’re just being sarcastic?
You should do that very race with the Tesla track package!!
yooooo that Beemer yooooooo!!!! I knew it could be done too fast
Did you put the car in track mode while he went to get the special fuel?
Yeah, need to test a Tesla Plaid with the track package for top speed test.
Normally the plaid eats everything for lunch..Tom Wrigley might have just saved the combustion engine 😂
They’ve had to pump tens of thousands into a car (which takes it well above the price of the Plaid) that is considerably lighter just to be able to keep up with the Plaid lol. Hardly outstanding 😂😂.
@@peedeegt
And its insane you have 4 years warranty 😂
Would be good to see it tested on Super Unleaded, I mean who’s gonna be going out of their way to find the right fuel?
@@peedeegt fastest vehicles in the world do quarter miles in 3.5 seconds and guess what? They're Gasoline powered 😉
@@peedeegt and yet evs can only go fast in a straight line because of how heavy they are. lets see that plaid hit a corner approaching at 150 like the m3.
That M3 is defo better sorted than the evolve one from yesterday's race on another channel 😂
Haha true! Although I prefer the color of the Evolve car!
Should have swapped lanes in the brake test when the ground is patchy damp like that.
I think you have to be in Plaid Track Mode to approach top speed. But yeah you may also need TP.
Put the Plaid in Track Mode to increase the top speed from 165mph to 175mph. Should get you to through the 1/2mile
yehh broo they
even dont know about that
So what was the battery level of the Plaid during the races?
Much better than the fuel level of bmws
@@Fentanylenjoyer...The BMW is faster on lower fuel. Obviously not fair. The plaid doing a 10.2!? Absurd. That's like 20% state of charge performance! A 20% state of charge plaid does 9.9 on the street though! Maybe 10%!?!?
That BM is a beast... Respect
Shows how accessible the power in the Tesla is. No fancy petrol, no worries about something breaking and chesper to buy and run. That M3C looks very good though.
Come on guys, totally pointless without the plaid track pack. It's severely limited otherwise
it is pointless regardless of whatever pack
10:44. Look where the M3 is and the puddle of water 10 meters from where his car stopped and the Tesla on a dry lane.. they should redo the test
💯toward the end of the video you can see that the right lane which the BMW was in has quite a bit more water accumulated in patches. They should have switched lanes at least a few times.
How aboit handling dynamics? Like on a skiidpad and a slalom.
The BMW M3 is a true thoroughbred racer.
You must race Lucid Air Sapphire against this Tesla!!
A reminder that grippy tires and grippy brake pads typically require a certain higher temperature to work. Purely street tires and pads usually do its best at normal ambient temps.
Good race boys ! Keep it up.
I want to the c63e vs a M3……
so how do you modify the 4-pot AMG? 🤣
Basically a Plaid with the upgrade brakes + higher speed package would win in all these tests, and be cheaper.
BMW would probably do better in some race tracks.
Oh, and the Tesla will use only 20% of the energy.
And most importantly, Tesla is a joy to drive day to day with 150k mile warranty
No way a tuned m3 wins…literally a Chiron pur sport lost to the plaid on Hagerty
Nope. The chiron beat the plaid by a smidge and lost to the lucid
@@davidkato1150just look up the factory times, only the recently released $4M super sport barely beats the Plaid, all other Chirons lose.
@@P10634 you realize both cars did a 9.3 second quarter mile right?
Plaid was at like 20% soc here 😂
This was awesome!!!
I don't know why the UK version of the Tesla Plaid does not have the higher top speed. From the factory it now gets to 175 mph. 165 used to be the old governor.
My brother has an M3 competition less than 4 months old. Under braking it vibrates…took it back to BMW and was told it is ‘normal’. Absolute joke.
The solution is the brake pads, there's vids on this. Minor, its an easy solution
Someone bullshitting.
Probably pad deposits on the rotors or your bro was braking hard from cold
He is trying to sort it out with BMW, he has been looking into the pads as well. Whatever it is it has never manifested itself on his C63 AMG and his driving style is constant.
Tesla had a limited top speed. Also stock versus modified with double the horsepower... Guess which one is much more prone to break during a race....
No problem. The upcoming M5 will do the job.
trackpack tesla does 215 mph
@@NotMyAccount To lose against the Plaid, yes!!! 😊
@@NotMyAccount Really? How? What are the specs of the new M5?
@@Just_a_random_birb No it doesn't
your man there introduced the Beemer in a scary/ subtle way, that tone needs to be studied
In Track Mode the Plaid is limited to 175mph instead of Drag Mode 165mph which he used here. Don't know why, think Drag Mode is for 1/4 Mile races.... So the Plaid would have taken the 1/2 Mile and on the Rolling Race the M3 was accelerating before the Plaid, guess the guy tried to time the gas and actually pushed even farther before the Pedal because normally from a rolling no ice engine can react as fast as a Plaid and also beat the constant Powerband, just can't. But they could have switched lanes, because espacially on the Brake Test, the Lane of the Bmw looked more wet. So all in all seems pretty much a draw by me.
So a heavily and expensively modified BMW can beat a road standard Tesla Plaid in certain circumstances. Doubt you’d see the BMW in Tesco’s car park. A very minor victory for ethanol heads 😂😂😂 Great video Rory! Fun to see the Plaid going through its paces.
I wouldn’t say minor, at least in North America. Plenty of high powered ice cars giving Teslas the cold sweats.
