Viewers can learn so much more from you than woodturning. I once had a teacher when I was in college who told us that if we learned everything about one thing, we’d learn all there is to know. I can’t thank you enough.
Thank you very much!
That black makes the bowl pop! And the inlay is outstanding.
Thanks 😊
Hi, I don't do woodwook myself. But I love watching the way you can take a piece of wood and turn it into something so fantastic. You are amazing.
Thank you very much!
Jim, you knoted it out the park, looking at what you started with and to the end,man your a wood Ninja love your work brother !!!!
Thanks 🥷🏻 lol 🙏🏻
What a beautiful bowl with a really nice inlay and a burnt edge it's cool. The wood is really lovely it's got some nice grain and the finish is awesome well done Jim. Amanda x
Thanks 😊
Shinny is my choice and I love the way it brings the bowl alive. Makes it like satin .
Thanks 😊
It’s really interesting to be starting out watching your latest resin bowls, and now going back to your inlay “roots” to see where you came from. Love this burned edge! I’ve never even heard of doing that before, and the effect is fabulous! Very cool!
Thanks for watching!
The burnt edge frames the bowl, making the maple pop. Such a neat idea and beautiful piece
Thanks 😊
I just love this piece!! Just plain old wood.
Sure is, lol. Thanks for watching!
wow very different. I hadn't seen inlay done until your channel. I really love the contrast of the light timber with the brass and the burnt edge. Just stunning
Thanks for watching
Interesting and beautiful piece from your pre-resin days. I enjoy going back through some of your older work.
Thank you very much!
burning the rim just looks so amazing and the result is just astonishingly beautiful
Thanks!
ONCE AGAIN YOU GOT ME WITH YOUR WORKMEN SHIP. FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS ITEM AND ONCE AGAIN I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO PURCHASE ANY OF THE THING YOU MAKE BUT YOU ARE GREAT AND THEY ARE LOVELY. THANK FOR THE SHOW
Thanks for watching, and I sent you an email, Jim
Gorgeous bowl. I like the brass and branches inlay. Classy looking
Thanks Judith!
I was skeptical about the burnt edge but came out amazing as usual. Such a lovely piece!
Thank you very much
What a Brilliant combination! You Put the shavings on paper, you can roll it into a funnel for quickly filling spots and a second one on your Matt will catch the loose shavings, you can again bend it to a funnel to place back into the jar to be used again later, it’s great with glitter or any of those fine mediums that you have to buy, “waste not want not”
Thanks, I always try to reuse all my inlay material, so of it can be quite expensive.
Look at the beauty this bowl has that you use natural material and natural techniques to make it
Thanks 😊
Nice piece. I can’t make a fire no more as all my scraps need to be made into something. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and techniques.
Thanks for watching!
Hi. Just a Word to say how much I learn and get inspired by your videos. Thanks
Awesome, thanks for watching.
Frog bowl!! Love it .
Frog bowl???
This bowl shines like a wooden diamond 💎
Thanks 😊
Wow, that looks amazing! I actually thought you painted or laminated the edge of the bowl! I was shocked when you said, "Okay, lets get the torch and burn it!" 🤣
Definitely the last thing I thought I'd hear after all that work on a wood project!
I love the natural edge of the bowl. It's really cool! I like that you don't cut them down to make it even. It makes for a much more interesting piece! It does have less holding capacity tho, so it's good you do both.
Thanks so much! 😊
I love the resin projects. One of the reasons I first started watching. But damned if this isn't awesome!
Thanks 🙏
That fruit bowl turned out really beautiful, less is more! The brass shavings look cool! I thought that they wouldn’t be detectable, NOT! You can truly see it shine! Great job!
Thank you very much!
Jim, I couldn't bare to see salad tossed in that beautiful work of SpagueArt. It's an offence deserving of "hot" tar and feathering! Hell yeah you should sign your work! All true Artists do. As always, thanks for letting me and all of us visit you and your shop. Hey, don't vacuum up that shop floor. It's what makes me feel right at home! ;-))
Wakodahatchee Chris
Lol, thanks. I prefer to make food safe items, but in reality they probably never see food! Jim
Simply beautiful Jim
Thanks 🙏
U have an eye for art and a skill for it too.
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
Great. 40 plus years of bowl making and I keep learning new ideas. thanks
Thanks!
That's another beautiful bowl! The finished shape is very artistic, and the burnt black edges go well with the end result. And so with the inlays, it's quite attractive. This is another number 1 for me. Wow! Thank you! 👍🏻🤗💕🇺🇸
Wow, I really appreciate it! Thanks 😊
Beautiful bowl! Another amazing job!!❤
Thanks again!
Beautiful as always! Nice pile of shavings in the background
There never seem to be any shortage of them, thanks
I have been watching so many videos from start to finish, and I have learned so much! Not only a great artist but a great teacher.
Thank you very much!
Love the burnt rim . Thanks .
It’s a good way to get away from toxic inks, thanks
Shiny is my thing too and I love this bowl.
Thank you very much!
I have to laugh at myself. I find that I hold my breath when you spray the accelerator so that I don't inhale the fumes!
Lol, thanks for watching
Hi Jim, its defintely a beauty, wow, it reminds me to the paintings of Gustav Klimt. Last winter i started to fill a cracked bowl with cherry branches and soapstone powder and another one with maple branches and crushed malachite. You are a great teacher . Now I will try brass shavings. Thank you for giving us such impressing examples! Cheers Stefan
Wonderful, thanks!
You are brilliant! Great steady hands. And A+ for creativity!
Thanks 😊
With the brass it looks steampunky. I like it.
I’m with you, lol. Thanks
Looking back at older videos. Still as impressive as current ones. Very well done and your video production is outstanding. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Wayne, I’ve learned a lot during this process that’s for sure and thanks for watching!
Beautiful bowl, Jim. Love the effect of the branches and brass shavings, everything ties in perfectly. Thanks for sharing and take care.
Thanks Tom!
Oh yeah. I love it. I love everything about your work. Forget about resin, and PLEASE make it shiny! Just love it!
Thanks!
Well done!! Color composition is great!!
Thanks 🙏
BEAUTIFUL BOWL INLAY.... I had never seen it done that way with tree branches.... Great detail of the process....Thanks again for the lesson!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My pleasure Randy
I'm really a fan of your work . I just found your channel, about a month ago . But you are quickly becoming my favorite . I am not a turned yet . I am saving for my first lathe . Thank you for the inspiration .
Awesome, thank you so much, Jim.
It is a beauty. I was wondering about the wavy, burnt edges but they are very interesting. Nice work. Nice bowl.
Thank you very much!
Well done, beautiful bowl, excellent vidéo. Inspiring. Darragh, France.
Thank you very much!
Wonderful bowl Jim, love the idea of using branches from a different tree to fix defects. Keep well, Rob
Thanks, glad you liked it.
Hey Jim. It's refreshing to see someone with a point of difference. The inlay and burned rim took a somewhat ordinary bowl to totally different level. More importantly the inlay different steel the show from the richness of the timber. I have subscribed to you channel with anticipation to see what you do next. 👍
Awesome, I’ve got a roughing walnut video coming out this week then I’m back on inlays, thanks!
I haven't been through your entire video library yet, but have you considered doing some bowls, platters and vases in the shou sugi ban wood burning method? I think it would definitely be interesting if you combined the burnt wood, inlays and resin along with having warped rims. Turned out fantastic!
I did it on this video. Thanks th-cam.com/video/96HONWynDWA/w-d-xo.html
lovely idea .. i kept seeing a bouquet of flowers with the branch inserts being the flower heads. you've given me inspiration. thank you. beautiful work.
Thanks Adrian!
That is gorgeous Jim. Thanks for sharing all your tips & tricks. I’ll have a ‘go’ at doing this one of these days!
Jeanie Thanks 🙏
So much amazing depth and dimension in such a simple piece. Very lovely!
Thank you so much!
Thank you for the thoroughness of your explanations. Stay safe and well!
It was my pleasure, thanks 🙏
Wow your toolwork is impressive!
Thank you very much!
Wow this one is exquisite..I love the black around the rim and the inlay looks like a fantasy flower !it even has a stem..This has been made out of a beautiful piece of wood..Defiantly one of my favourites 😀
Thanks Christine!
Sir your are do such great and inspiring work!!!
Thanks 🙏
I've only started woodturning and am amazed at how beautiful your work is.
👌
Thanks Lewis!
Enjoyed video. Lovely bowl!!
Thanks 🙏
That's a beauty Jim! Certainly have more appreciation of the work that goes into your inlays!
John Kilborn Thanks John, I really appreciate it!
Excellent piece Jim. I’m loving your videos. With the exception of Captain Eddy Castelin I find that most videos really are “watch how I do this” without providing sufficient details. With your videos you provide excellent info and instructions on how you go about with your craft as well as providing the pitfalls based on your experience. I’ve watched three of your videos since discovering your channel earlier today. I’ve learned something from each one. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos in the following days. For now, I’m wishing you continued success.
Awesome! Thanks. I’ve also notice the same thing with a lot of videos on here. I don’t know if you watch Kim Tippin’s channel but she called me the other day and said that I’m the only person on here doing natural inlays too. I was a little shocked by this and I think she’s right. Stay safe, Jim.
Symbol of beauty
Thanks 😊
The inlay on the inside of that bowl looks like a sunflower
Totally, thanks 🙏🏻
Glad I found this video! Not just for getting to see the amazing results you got on that bowl, but also because I'm working on a walking stick handle which is going to have a similar look to the inlay: small branches and twigs showing the end grain. I'd thought of filling the gaps with just sawdust, but the brass really makes it better.
New subscriber,too!
Great! Thanks.
Well done Jim! I look forward to your videos each week!
Great, thanks!
its good to see content coming from canada
Thanks eh, lol.
Wow wow wow!! 👍👍👍
Thanks Lefty, you’ll learn a lot of lefty tricks here. Lol.
Duct Tape should be worshiped...lol A very nice piece indeed sir. Nice to see how things change. Like the fact that you moved into the resin work, it gives it more of an artistic feel to you work. Like the brass it looks great sir. An outstanding bowl.🌿 👍👍👍
Thank you kindly
Hi Jim, I have been watching some of your previous video's, you are a truly great artist. Wow, the grain in the bowl is stunning and the brass and twigs are a great feature. Thanks for sharing
Awesome, thanks.
Love this style and shape
Thanks!
Stunning!
Thanks 🙏🏻
Again amazing! I really like the brass filler with the lighter wood, works well. The piece is gorgeous. Really love the branches you use with the filler. I'm with you I love the shine also.
Thanks!
Well done.. The details are great and the finished products are exceptional
Thanks Gary!
I’m surprised! I did not think it was going to turn out to be so pretty. But it is very good work.
Thanks 😊

I'm a big Generals guy too.. Been using it for years and years.... You can stack it up too and get an incredible finish..
Thanks Jimmy!
Beautiful work. The inlay definitely has a religious art feel to me.
Thanks!
This is so creative
Thank you very much!
Happy Holidays Jim to you and your family! 🌲🎄🍁✨
I just watched this video again fir the third time and absolutely loved it. I think I got more out of the video this time than last.
The bottom of the bowl looks almost like some otherworldly rabbit with multiple eyes! You are a master at enhancing nature’s paint brush! 👏👏👏
Same to you, say safe! I know it’s been a tough year for a lot of folks. I really like working with theses pieces that have flaws, bring them back from what would of been firewood to being the center piece that sits on your table and treated like art! Thanks, Jim.
Such a cool idea
Thanks 🙏
That is awesome, Jim!
Glad you liked it, thanks 🙏
Awesome work
Thanks 🙏
stunning work
Thanks 🙏🏻
Beautiful!
Thanks 😊
Stunning
Thanks again.
That is an absolutely beautiful creation. Love the fact you use natural materials. I’ve tinkered with resin, which is great, but using natural seems a more ethical solution. You also don’t have to wait an age for the resin to harden :-)
Really appreciate you sharing your ideas, skills and experience with us.. looking forward to more projects.
Thanks Gareth, I also prefer natural materials, Ive got a nice inlay coming up this week, stay tuned.
Absolutely beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much!!
