    Wow! That’s quite a giveaway. I love your bowls. I think I’ve heard you say you like the walnut better or it makes a nicer bowl or something to that effect. However, with the Cherry bowl this week and the Walnut (anniversary)bowl last week, I’d be hard pressed to decide which one I liked. You turn the most spectacular bowls. I hope the winner gets the bowl of their dreams. Till next week, everyone take care and stay healthy. Thanks, Jim, for your generosity.

    I really liked the bowl. I think the voice over worked really well. I agree with you that you say a lot of the same thing in each video but if it isn’t there I miss it. If you are ever lacking a topic you could always do an inlay side buy side test. Take a large flat plate and inlay 5 or six different things, maybe something you haven’t tried before. Thanks for sharing and have a great day!

    All that flare and those curved, organic forms will both echo the curves in the woodgrain and mask the fact that this is a repair instead of an intentional extra flourish. It makes it look like you had a perfect bowl and just added the inlay for the heck of it!
    It looks so much more upscale that way.

    In my opinion. The voice overs always win. As a side note, I just discovered how to create lidded boxes... My first was fairly plain looking made out of Pine, which is fine. I'm hoping to make another this weekend but doing some soapstone inlay in the top ;) Thanks for your time and info.

    Voice over is definitely the way to go especially if you want to shorten your videos. Great methodology for added beauty to a cracked bowl. I made a cherry vase that had a cracked knot in the center and I used your stone inlay method and I'm loving the general finishes, It is one of my favorite pieces I posted it on my facebook account and immediately got an offer to purchase it. I have never sold any of my pieces I rather give them away as gifts but it was still a rewarding sensation to have someone appreciate your work enough to use their hard earned cash to possess it. Love the work and the videos. Thanks so much for sharing:)

    Jim, I'm shocked that you were having trouble with black walnut bowls cracking in your kiln. My experience with it is that's it's one of the more stable woods I turn and dry. Sycamore is one of the worst for me as well as fresh boxelder and mulberry. For problems with rough-turned bowls, I put them in Menard's bags and turn the bag inside out every day or two. this lets the moisture escape more gradually. I have more trouble with cracking if there is a fan blowing on them in the shop. Happy turning!

    Excellent format, thank you; clear, interesting, great watching and a lovely end product. Like the man says, you’re a star. Some of your recommended products aren’t readily available here in the UK (and lockdown has presumably increased the interest in turning, reducing availability in some cases) but I’m wholly persuaded now that I need an Ellsworth grind gouge - and much larger bowl blanks!

    • @SpragueWoodturning
      @SpragueWoodturning  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Hugh, it certainly has caused shortages here too. Danish oil might be a decent alternative. It’s not classified as food safe but really any clear finish when fully cured is food safe. There has been much argument of this for many years. The days of lead in finishes are gone, Jim.

      Thanks Ron, it’s never big enough. If I could do it over again I would of made my shop twice the size it is. It’s 28 x 32’. At least you don’t need to deal with -40 in the winter, lol.

    My preference and vote is to hear your commentary. I like to know what you're thinking as you work through the project , each one has it's own challenges and inspiration.

    I like the voiceover; personally, I would use the easiest format. I like the bling too. Nice work as always 👍👍

    Great video. I still like the format where you talk on camera the best out of the three options you've recently shown. But the voiceover format is a close second. It still has the educational value of your older videos but is probably easier/faster to produce.
    Just ordered some starbond today with your code for a little rubber band airplane model I've been meaning to finish forever. Thanks!

    Good video of a great idea. I'd thought of using brass powder, but soap stone is an interesting alternative.
    Liked to voiceover too.
