Hi Jim,wonderful approach to increase the size of the burl bowl. P.S I have made a habit of spraying the inside of my pressure pot before each use,. Invariably there always seems to be a small amount of resin that "spays up". Also found that a soak in acetone can clean up the pot (also gauges )
Thanks again for more great ideas !

I e started doing that myself, not every time but every now and then. Thanks
I've learned practice makes perfect. I started working on my family tree back in 1999 and just learning. Now my tree is more detailed and I go back to the beginnings some times and fix errors I made way back then. I am always learning new ways to do things so.... the more you make castings, the better you get at it. I love watching your videos and went to your play list to watch from your 1st video. I am now up to your 3rd and love watching you progress with each new video. 😊🥰 Love the purple shades you use and also love pinks and light shades of blue 🙂
I've come a long way since shooting this video, lol. Thanks
You may not realize just how much of a compliment this is, but I have the sound on for your videos. Thanks for explaining why you're doing the things you do. Beautiful work
Thanks, I’ll take it, lol
The bright line of the glow hugging the natural edge of the bowl makes it look like mountains with snow. It's beautiful. Whomever gets this bowl is lucky. I'd love to have any of your pieces in my home. I would display them proudly.
Thank you very much
The glow in the dark is cool. Love the see thru rose, looks stunning. Another fine work of art sir🌿 👍👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
It's interesting that despite which ever pigments you add to the resin that the shavings are white. I enjoy hearing the sound of the gouge eating into the piece, it's soothing 🥰
Thanks 😊
It's gorgeous ❤ I love it ❤ Great job ❤
Lol I think it’s safe to say you won’t be using this method of resin casting again. I’m glad you filmed all this, I learned a lot! The big rock you use in newer videos seems to be easier! 🎉
Lol, thanks for watching!
I love the softer transparent resin colors like this. This is so beautiful.
Thanks Lili!
I’m by 💯 you figured out the splatter/splash situation of today’s adventure at hand! ?!!!
I just wanted to say I’m so pleased you mentioned left handed turning. I am in fact right handed when it comes to everything, EXCEPT for turning! 😂 I’ve been struggling with bowls, but now I’ve realised that I am only comfortable turning left handed, I will try and adapt my methods accordingly. Thank you! Great work as always too! 😊
Wow, never heard of that before, lol. Get a lathe with lefthand threads on the outboard end, that way the lathe bed isn’t in your way, it way more comfortable to turn that way. Thanks!
I love that effect, you should definitely do more like this one.
Thank you very much!
Now I'm going to have to go back to your first videos! I love your work Jim, and I want to see where you started from. I'm glad that you are left-handed because that means I have a chance with my very fledgling wood-finishing business. AAAAnnnd, it actually glows!! Love this Jim!
Thank again!
Your Engineering background sure does come in handy. This resin pour is really complicated. Thanks to your voice-over your thinking is shared with the rest of us.
Thank you very much!
Loved this one. The transparency of the top so you could see the edge of the wood part of the bowl mad a super cool effect.
Thanks 😊
Jim, what a beautiful bowl, amazing graining of the burl. Really beautiful
Thank you very much!
Beautiful bowl! The cherry wood is even more stunning then the walnut.
Thanks for watching!
the glow looks like ocean action against underwater sand, so cool!
Thanks 😊
It is pretty neat to have watched your videos back to front, and see how you and your process evolved for the finish product and cost.
Awesome bowl to resin/color ratio as always, looks like a sea floor shot in the uv light.
Thanks Jim
Thanks for watching!
Whoaaa! Another beautiful bowl! When it glowed in the dark, it's like magic! Pinkish purple in the daytime, glowing eerie blue in the dark. haha! It reminded me of haunting ridges on the ocean floor, and the movie "The Abyss". Thank you! Another exquisite bowl. 👍🏻 ⭐️ 🔥 🤗 🇺🇸
It’s pretty neat, need to make another one, thanks.
Wowza! That is a true masterpiece! It’s well worth all the issues that occurred in the pressure pot! Too cool! Great job!!
Thank you! Cheers!
My daughter loves your pink glow in the dark bowl!
It’s really cool, Ed to make one of these again, thanks
Vary nice bowl. I like the glow-In-the dark feature. Great job!!
It’s really cool, need to make more of theses, thanks
Beautiful bowl love burl and resin! I love glow in the dark as I collect vaseline glass it glows with a black light. Great going Jim!
Thanks 😊
Great idea to save resin! Not only is it expensive it is just turned away and fills the land fills. We should always look for ways to be more efficient!
Agreed! Thanks 🙏
Omg it's the most beautiful thing. Every time Jim. Some are more spectacular than others and that's part of the fun!
Thanks 😊
I like the glowing and the edge of the burl is great! Great job.
Thank you very much
I love the transparency on the piece. The cherry Burl is Beautiful! I'm Partial to burl and walnut.
Me too! Thanks
This is my favorite piece of all you've done. I love the translucent property. It is beautiful. I can see it as a center piece on a dinning room table or a coffee table conversation piece. Absolutely beautiful.
Thanks!
Don't know what to say. Just... AWESOME!!!
Thanks!
Hey Jim. The translucence is soooo cool! Love looking down through the resin. The mountain effect is super. Beautiful burl, too.
It totally is, thanks
Using tuck tape on both sides of plastic prevents tearing and makes easier to form plastic plus you can reuse for future projects:>) the plastic makes a smoother finish for later when you put on the machine and helps prevent sticking while removing plastic Your the man I had to tell you the secret:>) Your still a great man, Respect from Canada 2021.
Thanks again!
Beautiful! Love the soft transparent pink
Thank you! 😊
I absolutely love being able to see the peaks + troughs of the burls through the resin - the glow factors it up another notch
Can’t argue that. Thanks
Jim, much kudos on taking the economic route with the resin. Way too many makers pour "gallons" of resin and turn 95% off during the process. I don't know jack about resin turning, but I can see the waste. Merry Christmas and thanks for another nice video.
Thanks Ville!
Hi Jim thank you so much for a very beautiful bowl, my husband loved real wood and glow in the dark things so this piece would have been his favourite of all your gorgeous things and would have taken pride of place in our living room, true master at your heart xx
Thanks 😊
Wow wow wow with each video I'm loving more and more lol another absolute stunner and the fact that you get two colors in one basically is so freaking awesome! I love the almost transparent look in the natural daylight. And love the Smokey blue effect in the dark .The wood is absolutely gorgeous! It's crazy where the wood meets the resin twards top of bowl the wood looks like a mountain scene & in one place it even looks like trees with mountains behind it.So very 😎 Thanks for sharing.. the giveaway bowl is absolutely beautiful
The mountain areas of the bowl are really cool to look at and the intense blue that it turns into is really mystifying as well, thanks.
@@SpragueWoodturning yes!💗
You did it! It glows! It's just such beautiful work!
Thanks 😊
Love your resin saving idea. Bowls not so shabby either
Thanks Dave!
Again a nice looking Bowl.... as you say you learn something new every time.. cheers
Thanks Grahame!
Whoa that is beautiful in the light and dark.
Thanks Judith!
Hi Jim.. what a really beautiful bowl. it looks like you’ve captured the Northern Lights in that resin 😊.. also, love that buffing system - hope I can find the same over here in the UK.. Looking forward to a possible Christmas theme.. Seasons greetings to you..
Thanks Gareth, seasons greetings to you too!
First of all, being a fellow "south paw", I like the way you point out the ways we get over the "challenges" we face and also the ways we win over these challenges.
I wonder if a release agent would have worked on the pressure pot & marbles?
I'd also like to add, I never had any interest in epoxies in turning until I started watching you channel. Inspired to say the least!
This was one of my earlier pieces, I’ve changed up a lot of the procedures now. Thanks for watching!
Jim,the black knob just below the air intack is to allow a small amount of pressure at a time. pull knob out and turn counter clock wise, attach air hose open valve adjust knob slowly clockwise to allow small amount of air till you get to 60psi
I took all the regular stuff off. Too many places to leak. I will just be more careful when putting the air in next time. Jim.
Very beautiful glow in the dark
I think so too! Thanks
Excellent bowl, Jim. The finish is crystal, very well done. We are always learning. Thanks for helping us with our education.
Thanks again Ray!
I love the translucent bowls, such a pretty pink
Thanks 😊
That is way cool. Makes the edge of the wood really stand out!
Thanks 😊
Jim, yet again, a beautiful outcome. Thank you so much for your posts. I’m learning so much not only from the obvious things you’re sharing but also from watching you make subtle adjustments to how you approach the wood with your tools and in particular, the gouges. Thanks a ton!
No problem Steve, thanks for watching!
Pure beauty. Man, that's pretty.
Thanks again!
Absolutely stunning. Nice job!
Thank you very much!
Nice the way it lights up in the rim of the wood more
Ya, it’s pretty cool, thanks 🙏
It certainly turned out to be beautiful.
It’s pretty neat, need to make another one of theses, thanks
Beautiful job Jim...beautiful. Explaining outboard and left-handed threads would make a good video--hint, hint.
Thanks 👍
I really like these translucent resin pieces. It's neat to see the wood through the resin.
It’s pretty neat and plan on making more in the future, thanks 😊
Better video title: "Jim loses his marbles" :D
Since you're using a resin with a really long cure time, it'll take a long time for it to fully harden. You should be able to help it along by raising its temperature a little. Regardless, the bowl turned out great!
Jim lost them a long long time ago, 🤪🤪. It’s sitting at about 75F in my clean room. I was also thinks about wrapping a truck battery blanket around the pot as well. Then she’ll cook, lol. Thanks
Toss the pressure pot in the kiln when it's curing
I really like the softer color of resin. It is beautiful
Thanks so much 😊
Very nice, I lost my marbles a long time ago and it looks you found them. Great job
I think your right, I will send them to you for Christmas, haha. Thanks
Love the bowl. The marble idea will definitely be one I keep in mind.
It works great for stabilizing. Thanks.
Yep, those marbles are like using beans in a pre-baked pie crust.
this is absolutely beautiful! And the glow-in-the-dark is fabulous! It doesn't take much to entertain me, i guess!
Thanks for watching!
Since you had the bowl on the marbles it was pretty close to the lid, when you pressurized it, the air went straight down and blew the resin up
This is the general consensus. I still think there might of been an air pocket trapped in the base of the bowl and then spit out when pressurized, thanks. I pressurized the pot really slow but it certainly could of been it.
that was my guess Mike
This is what I thought. Pushed a bubble out from under the bowl and it spattered. Maybe cut a spatter guard out of the 6 mil or use one of those dollar store bacon shields in future...
Thank you
Think so to.
That is a beautiful bowl!! Love the pink with the cherry.
Thanks 😊
Absolutely gorgeous Jim.
Thanks Dave!
You have such knowledge do to what you have done. I am constantly learning watching and listening to you. The true definition of a artist. I am addicted to you and learning from your experience. Thank you for your sharing and teaching us through your experience.
You are so welcome! I appreciate that! Happy you are learning from me!
I really like the glow effect and I love that colour pink with that wood really pretty. You do a great job, and explain things well. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Love it, it turned out beautiful
Thanks
OMG, is glowing, looks amazing !!! Your signature is the quality seal.
I believe it’s important to sign your work, thanks Maria!
Nice bowl. The glow is great.
Thanks, it’s one of my favorites.
Jim, appreciate the down-home videos, I'm learning from you, thanks!
Thanks for stopping by! Jim.
It looks very good Jim. Nice job.
Thanks 🙏
Watching I get mesmerized, wish I had your talent
Thank you very much!
Exceptional work as usual Jim. A pressure pot AND a vacuum chuck are both at the top of my long wish list. Have a very Merry Christmas. I hop you and yours stay healthy!
Tex
Same to you too! Thanks Tex!
The guy’s that do our marble benchtops always clean up their scrapers etc by using the heat gun to soften the cured epoxy and scrape it off, it works a treat so I’m sure heat and friction was the problem their even once completely cured. Thanks for the great video.
Yes, your probably right, thanks.
It is a beautiful bowl! You had some great success with the glow in the dark pigment!
It’s fun! Thanks
Very beautiful! And I love the idea of using marbles for spacers and weights! I too have ran into the resin getting soft when heated..... In fact there are art resin techniques that require heating set resin, mechanically fixing desired shape, and when cooled it will hold the new shape. With all that said, leaving it to cool will reharden the resin, and be careful how hot you get it because if it can droop, it will cool as an oval rather than a round bowl 😉
I never showed it but I placed the rim around a from to make sure it would stay true once I noticed it was getting soft. Thanks
Was showing my husband your video tonight, and noticed 2 things..... We have the exact same pressure pot that you do, and..... Your air diffuser is missing from the underside of the lid. Ours fell out once, and we found it inside the set resin, lol. Look around, being this is your third resin bowl, and first issue with the pot..... The little thing is close 😉
I might of removed it when I took the regulator off, just too much stuff to leak. I don’t remember it being there tho.
Hi Jim. Bowel turned out cool. Merry Christmas to you and family. Take care.
Same to you GP!
Extremely enjoyable. Thank you.
Thanks 😊
Fantastic job Jim
Thank you very much
Love the glow.
Thanks for watching
Beautiful glow in the cherry burl bowl. Keep up the good work Jim and have a merry Christmas. Stay safe.
Same to you, Jack. Thanks.
thanks for all your vidoes i watch all of them i wanted to wish you and family a merry christmas and happy new year hope all is well !!
Awesome, thanks Larry!
Fantastic piece of work again, I hope you and your family have a great Christmas and happy new year
Same to you, thanks.
I like the video. I like the bowl . I learn a lot by watching and your videos do a good job of walking one through all that you're doing. As a new turner, I just figured out, as of an hour ago, my 2nd hand tools are for spindles. * Sigh *
The great thing is you only need a bowl gouge and a parting tool to do inlayed bowls, safe turning! Thanks.
Beautiful in the dark or not...just wow! Hopefully the Christmas theme also includes resin!
Working on it, lol.
This is so very beautiful.
Thank you very much!
I am glad that it worked too!❤ Designer Epoxy
Thank you! Cheers!
Stunning , I think this is my favourite resin you’ve done 👍🏻 simple but so effective ♥️
Thanks 🙏🏻
Jim! As always exquisite work! 💫👏🎉I like your ingenuity on saving the resin. Sorry it created a splatter effect in the pressure pot. However, Before you clean it, sit it out in the sun and put a go-pro inside it to see the cool ink spot when closed. If it works, please share the pic. 🤩
You should also consider making marble sculptures with resin! Very cool! 😎
There’s no way to clean the resin out of the pot, it’s welded itself to it. It’s now a permanent pot feature, lol. Thanks
At least you know it’s yours when go on tour again. Just in case someone else has the exact same unit and stickers! 😂🤣
Thanks Jim, I watched that cherry resin bowl demo many times and gained many takeaways!
AmosP
Good stuff, thanks 🙏
Jim it is amazing and stunningly beautiful. So sorry about your vacuum pot they must be really expensive. I really hope you can get it clean. God bless you and your family and all other turners a blessed and wonderful Christmas.
Thanks Kobie, I really appreciate it! Same to you, happy holidays!
Turned out great Jim!
Thanks 🙏🏻
You sir are a stable genius!!!
I’m not smart just stubborn, haha. Thanks.
That bowl is BAD ASS cool!
Thanks 🙏
@@SpragueWoodturning You're really welcome! Do you have a website where your bowls etc. are sold?
I fell in love with this one ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks 🙏
That is a beautiful bowl! The light pink glass effect goes well with the burl. Cant say much for the glow in the dark stuff though. Glad there was less epoxy waste this time too.
Thanks. I really like the glow stuff. I’m not a huge fan of the pinkish color tho.
@@SpragueWoodturning you don't like the pink color? This is my favorite bowl that you've made so far LOL. I Iike the thinness of the bowl along with the shape and depth (practical/functional), and I love pink, light blue and other light glassy colors.
Fabuloso! 😍😍😍😍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks 🙏🏻
I really like bowl that you have done
Thanks 😊
the problem with why the resin went everywhere is because of when you added the pressure to the pot the incoming air hit the resin splashing it. you need a way to redirect/deflect the incoming air to not hit the resin directly. Which is why if you look at some of the mold rack systems they have a top unused shelf that just deflects the incoming air to not hit the resin.
Good info Bryon. I’m going to go back and look at the raw footage and see just how fast I put the pressure in the pot, thanks.
If you add a diffuser at the bottom of your intake it'll stop that. It happened to me as well.
That was my guess too! Good call!
I pressurize really slow ( I looked at the raw footage) so I’m thinking it was a trapped air pocket the popped spraying resin everywhere
@@SpragueWoodturning when I first started resin cast in a pressure pot I had the same thing happen to me all the time. After Jake Thompson showed me that if you use a defuser at the bottoms to the top it will not blow air into the fresh resin and cause it to splatter and I no longer have issues.
Quite a challenge with the resin. Really ni e bowl.
Thanks again!
Beautiful bowl!
Thanks.
I dig it Dude! :- ) Awesome bowl Jim, I always look forward to your videos on Friday. Hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas, take care my friend.
Same to you! Thanks.
I love the way this one turned out. Good stuff
Thanks Gabriel!
