I love the effect on the top edge created by the cut branches. Would love to see a bowl with the entire top edge like that! It’s a beauty.
That would be cool! Thanks
Thanks for your video's. When I was a kid Pops got a Craftsman's lathe. I started woodworking there. Now the VA sugjested I try turning to help me.. I'm enjoying life better now. You inspire me and I think it is worth noting.
Thanks Joel, I find turning therapeutic. After leaving the military in 2012 I could of got a big paying job here with a local company but deep in my heart I knew that I wanted to be a professional turner. Moneys not everything! I’m in my own world doing my own thing with nobody telling me what to do! The wife still controls me tho, lol. Stay safe!
binge watching your videos Jim and each project is more beautiful than the last. Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching
You, sir, are a true artist. I have no words.
Thanks 🙏
A thing of beauty is a joy forever. That is a thing of great beauty!
Thanks Tim!
This bowl looked so good I had to stop in and see the greatness ❤
Thank you very much!
What a fresh looking bowl.
Thank you very much!
Wowza! This bowl is amazing! The inlay is different, yet absolutely beautiful! The twigs are such a fantastic touch! Great job!
Thanks so much! 😊
I like the way you solved your problem bowl. It's lovely and cool
Thanks 😊
Great demo. Never thought of using a limb to fill a tree. Love the way you explain everything you are doing.
Your welcome, thanks.
I love this one. Confession: I didn’t like the one in the previous video with the branch inlay so I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this. I’m glad I watched it through to the end. It’s beautiful.
Thank you very much!
Very cool design idea with the branches Jim, love it!
Thanks again!
Beautiful Jim, simply amazing and inspiring
Many thanks!
Jim, I absolutely love this gorgeous bowl. I have never seen inlay done like this. I now think that this is my new favorite way for inlay. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing works of art. ❤
Thanks 😊
Good Morning Jim. Another wonderful video!!! Very instructive, informative and detailed. I like your philosophy about the imperfection in the wood, "If you can't fix it, feature it". Thank you for your generosity by sharing your "secrets" with us. You create beautiful works of art. Blessings to you, your loved ones, and Canada. Namaste. 💝🕉💖👍👌
Thank you Vicki, glad you enjoyed it. I really hate to give up on a piece of wood and see it go to waste, 🙏
Thank you for explaining your process. By the way, your handwriting is beautiful.
Not bad for a lefty eh, thanks
Just watched maple and soapstone. Creating these beautiful pieces must fill your soul. Thanks for sharing.
It is very rewarding! Thanks.
I'm also a retired signwriter. 50 years on the brush and now a woodturner. Love your work.
Awesome, thanks 🙏

Dear Jim,

From the side it kinda looks like a smiley face, with that small dark spot being the eye 😂 such a beautiful piece 🥰
Yes, kind of. Lol. Thanks
Thanks for the recommendation. The process is fascinating and the results are stunning.
There are two more on the channel too, thanks for watching!
I stand by my earlier comment: you are a master of your craft. Great save on that poor bowl!
Thank you very much!
That bowl is a work of art! I especially love the random dark branches on the bottom!
I would like to do one like this in resin as well to see the comparison, thanks.
@@SpragueWoodturning maybe I am not looking far enough, but yours is the only channel I have seen doing stone inlay. Very nice!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONCE TO MY QUESTION. ONCE AGIAN YOU GOT ME ON THE BOWL TRUNING. IT WAS OUTSTANDING AS ALWAYS AND I DID LIKE IT. YOU ARE GREAT.
Thanks 😊
That came out beautiful! awesome Job
Thank you! 😊
Amazing piece of artwork 👌 👏

Nice job Jim, I’ve saved many a bowl that way saves burning them.👍👍👍
Thanks, one more saved from the fire!
Beautiful piece. Great idea
Thanks, Helen!
The bowl is beautiful as per normal. Love the work. Great inspiration. Your a master.
Thanks Mac!
Jim, I really enjoy watching and learning about the whole inlay process. You give me enough information to keep me interested but not every single bit of sanding being shown. I love your work, even the bringing home logs and cutting them into turning blanks. Keep up the fine work you do. Cheers, Paige C.( from North Carolina, USA).
Thanks Paige!
Beautiful bowl, good job.
Thank you very much!
What a clever idea with the branches! And, it turned out MUCH prettier than I had anticipated.
Awesome thanks Ron!
Another excellent project and looks fantastic thank you ✊✊✊✊
Thanks
Another beauty, Jim. I love the effect of the inlay, makes it more of an art piece. Fantastic job. Stay safe. Tom
Thanks!
I have learnt so much from your vid. Well done on a terrific job. Dave, Beachmere, QLD, Australia
Awesome thanks David!
Seen I discovered this channel I enjoy every single video, wonderful job
jimpguezjimmy Thanks you.
@@SpragueWoodturning I love it
I'm fairly new to your channel and have enjoyed all the videos I watched immensely! This one fascinated me! Really cool ideas. I've worked with soap stone in the past but never as an inlay. Great job. One word of caution about steel wool. When I was a youngster, I used it to clean white wall tires (yes I'm that old to remember them!) and got a splinter in my thumb. It got infected and I landed up losing the tip of my thumb--almost lost it to the first knuckle. Moral of the story is if you use steel wool WEAR GLOVES! Looking forward to binge watching your videos!
Wow, I’ve never heard of that before, it stands to reason that if metal got imbedded in your skin you could get an infection from it, I know this because of my former life as a mechanic. Thanks for the advice and stopping by to watch my channel, Jim.
Awesome look to bowls otherwise heading for the firewood pile!
It’s a great way to save them, thanks Mike.
I wasn't sure how this was going to look given the state of the piece before it was filled. Pretty darned spectacular change and a wonderful contrast between the branches, soapstone, and the bark. So pretty, and I love the way the piece has an asymmetrical, organic balance. Very well done!
Thank you Kath!
Hi Jim. Thanks for sharing the creation of another great inlay project. All of your pieces are truly beautiful.
Your too kind, thanks 🙏
I love this beautiful bowl really like the inlay it is awesome this is a work of art. X
Thanks for watching!
Great idea and now its a real beauty
Thanks 🙏
I love love love cherry branches!
Thanks 🙏
Oh my! Beautiful! What a transformation! It went from junk to a work of art! And I agree with you. You make it into an enhancement instead of a repair job! I love that color of sandstone. Does it have a name?
You are so welcome! I usually don’t name my bowls. Thanks
Like Mark Choitz, we all have a few cracked or voided chunks of turning wood that can benefit from your technique, thanks for the ideas and the lesson it has given me so many more opportunities to turn. Keep up the great work!
Thanks. Safe turning
Thank you for enjoyed this video.
It is beautiful job.
Thanks again!
Wow! What a beautiful bowl! Love the inlay!
Thanks 🙏🏻

Interesting concept, Jim. Not only does it save a piece, it enhances it nicely.
Billy

A beautiful piece of art. The soapstone really accents well with the maple. Excellent
Thanks, and yes, they are a good mix.

Looks pretty.

Thanks 🙏
Thanks for sharing your Inlay Method (well one of them at least), love how the bowl came out.
Awesome, thanks.
Simply beautiful! You have another subscriber from the other side of the pond!
Thanks Richard!
This really ended up looking so cool! I wasn't sure how the soapstone was going to look against the maple but it's gorgeous. Nice job! 💜
Tracey Rice thanks Tracy.
you all probably dont care but does anybody know of a way to log back into an Instagram account?
I stupidly lost the account password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me!
@Nova Jaylen Instablaster :)
Very clever. Never would have thought of this technique.
Thanks 🙏
awesome idea, I have several bowls on my drying rack that have the "crack" problem, I think I will give it a go. thanks for the idea and the video!
No problem, thanks
I love it, its supper cool
Thanks 😊
You could also use marble dust. It comes in different sifts from fine powder to sand-like consistency. It could make interesting reflections under light.
It’s on my list to do, thanks!
great job. well done, congratz Pal.
Thanks 🙏
Beautiful
Thanks 🙏
Excellent gives me something to try
Just make sure the branches are bone dry. I use my kiln to dry mine to 7% or less.
Nice work sir, looks amazing. Been looking for a Canadian wood turner to follow - glad I found you, right down the road! Who'da thunk it - thanks for sharing.
Great, thanks!
Creative idea, results look amazing, beautiful bowl
Flashing lights near the end was difficult to watch
Thank you for sharing, I enjoyed your video
Thanks 🙏. I’ve watched it again, where do you see flashing light? Are you referring to the light refracting off the bowl? Alway looking for ways to improve my videos, Jim.
Blake, I like the way you are thinking about the end project and how it looks. You have obviously been turning for many years? The bowl looks fantastic and the different textures enhance and really make it pop. Congrats! Cheers, Sean
Thank you so much! I’ve been turning for probably 24 years now, Jim not Blake, lol.
That is a work of art
Sue Anderson thanks 🙏🏻 Sue
thanks for showing us how this is really accomplished
Thanks for watching!
Hi Jim. Enjoyed the video.
G P great, thanks 🙏
Sprague Woodturning your welcome. From an old friend at gag town
From a copter place?
Sprague Woodturning 👍
Fabulous. Fabulous!!
Give Acks sanding paste a try; might avoid the steel wool fiber issue. It's food safe.
Appreciate the time you invest for us in making the videos!
One of these days I just might give it a go, I see lots of other turners using it in there videos. If it’s got some kind of wax in it, that might be a problem with putting another coat of finish on tho? Jim
