- Woodturning - In this video I rescue a maple crotch from my firewood pile and combine some maple burl pieces and resin to make this very cool bowl. I also core this piece using the Korpro Cutter from Hunter Tool Systems. I'm uploading on Thursday to try a little experiment. Sould be back to normal on the next one, enjoy!

I'm glad you laughed about it later cause I was laughing hysterically as you brought the hammer down on the bucket on the floor. Like a scene out of a horror movie!
Lol, thanks!
Love the bowl. Maybe you should give that bucket honorable mention. It was a warrior LOL...
Lol, thanks!
As black and tan are such muted colors, you wouldn't think the finished product would be so lively, but the beauty of the colors just jumps out at ya. Absolutely gorgeous piece.
Thank you very much!
I wish you lived nearer to California so that i could look at your selection. This is my favorite piece.
Thanks so much!
Cool Shit Man;)) Designer Epoxy Rocks;))
Thank you very much!
After a long day, your videos are entertaining (and educating)!
Glad you like them! Thanks
Goodness but that was funny. A combination of tuck tape, hot glue and mold release is deadly lol. But what a beautiful bowl, which was so worth it after all the hard work. Thanks so much for the entertainment which really made my day.
Glad to help, lol. Thanks
When you were spraying the mold release I thought it was way too much! I was laughing so hard watching you try to get it out of the bucket that I woke everyone up! Replayed you banging the bucket to release the resin/wood. Everyone had a good laugh... now hopefully we all get up in the morning!
Beautiful bowl as usual! Stay safe!
Glad to entertain, haha. Thanks 😊
Can you make a video on you blocks that you glue on, and how you made them.
Who knew you had to train for the World's Strongest Man competition just to get your work out of the bowl.. hehe way to go Jim very nice bowl.
The struggle is real, lol. Thanks
Hats off to the next Whack-a-Mole champion of the universe.
The black pearl makes the bowl!!!
Love that you aren't afraid to show the challenges along with the successes. Beautiful work.
The struggle is real, lol. Thanks
Wow that is an amazing large bowl - the resin in the cracks in the base look like a horses head (or zebra given the black).
Laughed with you during your Benny Hill routine - what a struggle.
Thank you very much! Lol.
When you transitioned from the table to the floor ... that's when things got serious - oh, but wait ... the mini-sledge came out. Who needs a gym when you're a wood worker? Great work Jim, always a pleasure. Great work on the mold too; it really took a pounding!
The struggle is real, lol. Thanks
Roomba has nothing on you. You are the work out KING. Oh ya ! The bowl is Beautiful
Lol, thanks 🙏
OMG I was cracking up when you were pounding on that bucket. That is an absolutely amazing bowl. Great job and stay safe. See you next week 👍👍
The struggle is real, haha. Thanks 😊
Never a dull video nor normal piece of art turned.
I’m sure getting it out of the mold is very frustrating, but it makes great video! 😂 Having a running issue you can laugh about with your regular viewers is a good idea, and having this one that arose naturally is even better.
I’m here to entertain, lol. Thanks 😊
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 I’m really sorry, but watching you struggle to get that out of the bucket made my day! Made my day seem not quite so bad. Thank You for the entertainment
I aim to please, haha! Thanks K
“There should be no reason for this not to come out.” 😂😂😂
Really love the colors on this one!
Totally, lol. Thanks
You always surprise me by picking colors I think I won’t like and then they turn out beautiful.
Thanks 😊
Omg I was laughing so hard! 😂🤣 I can’t wait for my husband to see the video!
The bowl turned out fabulous and beautiful 🧡💙💜
The struggle is real, lol. Thanks
It’s so nice that you don’t put garbage music over your videos. 👍🏻
Thanks Robin!
I needed a laugh so I pulled up this video! It’s hilarious!
Lol. Thanks 😊
I haven't finished watching the video yet...(but I know the results are going to be great, because you always create amazing work) just am laughing out loud at your footage of trying to get the casting out of the pot 🤣 Oh Jim! I wouldn't stand a chance! 🤣🤣🤣
It was a battle, lol. Thanks for watching
Thank you for leaving the wild hammering in the video!!
Lol, thanks for watching
Another amazing job!
Thank you very much!
Great pair of bowls. The epoxy looks great with the burl. Well done.
Thanks Doug!
Just beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
The struggle was real with that one. The bowl turned out beautifully! I do love the black pearl!
Me too, thanks 🙏
I love to watch a genius make something precious out of fire wood and other things that could easily be overlooked. I have always been creative and tried many ways of using my crazy imagination to make something unique. Mostly failed because of my poor health. This is as fun to watch as a great mystery movie 🍿. Thank you very much
Thank you very much!
That is one beautiful bowl! Aren’t you glad that you got that piece of wood out of the firewood pile. Jim I really enjoy your videos. Keep them coming.
Sure am! Thanks 🙏
Another stunning project!!! I love that silver black!!! You crack me up ‘at least I can make a bucket’ 😂😂😂
Lol, thanks for watching!
Man you were wailing on that bucket 😂😂😂! It turned out beautiful Jim.
Glad you liked it, lol. Thanks 😊
You´ll never know how much I enjoy your videos
Thanks 😊
Me too!
Thanks 😊
Another fine bowl JIm. I like how you used the other pieces as filler. They worked out perfectly. As for the bowl release, I cannot help laughing. I know it is frustrating but watching you get it out of there is hilarious. Almost as funny as when Gary drove his lawn mower into the Petawawa River. Take care and stay safe. See you soon.
Glad to entertain, haha. I will be up this week
Lol I think I’d have used a grinder n cut the bucket. But I hate giving up too. I so laughed with you.
I only came across you show 2 days ago n absolutely love it and your work. It’s so relaxing watching n listen to all your comments.
My grandfather used to do wood turning n I loved to watch him. I’m 64 now. Keep up the good work. From Australia.
The struggle is real, haha. Thanks for watching!
Awesome bowls. Yes the biggest one is beautiful but the middle size bowl came out pretty darn nice.
Thanks 🙏
Another beautiful piece Jim. I always get a kick out of watching you beat up that poor pot. You really got a workout on this one. Lol
Yup, lol. Thanks 🙏
5 min.s of Jim banging the crap out of a bucket ... worth it! Imagine the audio on all different words used during that!
It was a workout, haha. Thanks
It like the grain is drawn in, it's so fancy; I see a horses head in the bottom of the big bowl!
Thank you Jim
Thanks for watching
Benny Hill music would have been classic on the bucket beating! Had a good laugh. Beautiful bowl as always, the black pearl turned out very nice. Thanks Jim Hava Goodun
Lol, thanks 🙏🏻
Love the result ,and color is perfect. 🤣 lol that banging on bucket was awesome lollll
The struggle is real, lol. Thanks 🙏
Beautiful I love this bowl the colors are gorgeous!!❤
Thank you so much!
Unusual color palette, but it turned up absolutely gorgeous.
Dark resin with such a neutral tone really brings out the wood.
Totally, thanks 🙏🏻
I was concerned the blank would shatter or crack. Turned out beautiful, terrific bowl Jim, I really like the color. Thanks for letting us see the trails and tribulations' of day to day life of a woodturner.
My pleasure, thanks for watching!
Jim I had to laugh when you were wailing on the bucket.
Love the black pearl color. The bowl is absolutely gorgeous!
Take care 🙂
The struggle is real, haha. Thanks 😊
WOW those are beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow wow wow! 😍🎉💫 👏 This is a gorgeous bowl! That pearl against the figures in the grain is stunning! I look forward to seeing a lidded container with resin 👏
Thanks, I really like the color combo too!
Cracked up when you went to the floor and started beating that bucket!
The struggle is real! Thanks
I didn't think I would like the grayish/perlish resin with the wood, but I think it turned out beautifully! The crotch wood makes it so exquisite! Great job!!
Thank you very much
AWESOME BOWL MY ANOTHER JOB WELL DONE JIM WELL TAKE CARE AND STAY SAFE GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS PEACE BE WITH YOU ALL AND UNTIL NEXT TIME LET THE WOOD KEEP TURNING MY FRIEND
Thanks Curtis!
Your choice, of the tinted thin glue, was spot on! This bowl makes me feel proud to be one of your subscribers! I enjoyed watching this video with my three year old grandson today: Perhaps a future woodturner?
Awesome! Thanks. Teach them young!
Looks great! Only now I have this mental picture of you hammering on the bottom of a bucket at high speed, to Benny Hill's theme song! Lol!
Your welcome, haha. Thanks 🙏
Jim,
Way to funny watching you beat the bucket. It really makes one wonder about the mold release. Beautiful bowls as usual. The hunter tools look awesome and it is amazing that you have 50 plus cuts on the same side of the cutter insert. See you next time. Thanks and be safe.
Thanks Kevin!
That is a fantastic looking piece of art. Your color selection was perfect. Pure entertainment watching it made too. I almost fell out of my chair when you were trying to get it out of the bucket. You had the patience of Job trying to get it apart. I would have gone to a multi-tool and cut it apart after 5 minutes. Great work and great video.
I wasn’t going to let it beat me, lol. Thanks for watching
Totally enjoyed this weeks video. Lovely looking bowl and even before you said it watching you getting the cast out of the bucket i already had Benny hill music playing in my mind. So glad you put the in and loved how you kept your humour and cool at least from what we saw. thanks
Thanks Bruce! If you can’t laugh at yourself, you’ve got no right to laugh at others, haha.
Wow! That bucket gave ya one hell of a work out!🤣 I could hear Benny Hill song playing (Yakety Sax). Nice piece of fire wood!👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks 🙏
Oh boy Jim we had a good laugh about your struggles with the bowl. But wow it is just awesome and stunningly beautiful magnificent and spectacular wow.
Lol, thanks 🙏
Really enjoy watching your videos! I cracked up when you brought out the sledge!!!
The project turned out great; in the larger bowl I saw a horses head that became the silhouette of a cow when it turned. Enjoy your commentary and explanations.
Thanks for another great video.
Thanks 😊
Beautiful bowl family, Jim. The finish is spectacular. Great job. Take care.
Thanks 🙏
OMG, Jim, I haven't laughed this hard in forever. I laughed so hard my stomach hurts. Who knew wood turning would end up being a comedy?
The struggle is real, hahaha. Thanks for watching!
I must get back on my lathe! I’ve been repairing decking recently and it now takes me a week to do a days work. You are an inspiration, Jim. Love your honesty and the results are stunning 🌞
Thanks 👍
Another great project! I normally watch your videos while on the exercise bike. I don't know what made me more tired, the bike or watching you get the blank to release... lol Impressed with your determination.
I will not be defeated, lol. Thanks 🙏🏻
A small hole in the bottom of the bucket to release the vacuum would have freed it right away, but watching you beat the HELL out of it was very entertaining. Oh and also beautiful turning.
I like your optimism, lol. Thanks
Good morning Jim, love watching you work. Beautiful work as always. I'm sure everybody love watching you struggle with your de-molding but I understand how frustrating it is. I do have a small trick for you. I make my mold the same way you do and since I use a circle jig to cut the bottom, I have a hole in the middle of it. I make sure the is free all around and cut the tape in the center and use compressed air gun with a rubber tip to push the blank out. it works most of the time. hope it helps. good luck and as always amazing work.
Great idea! Thanks.
My oh my!! Now I understand your comment from a few weeks ago telling me to look out for the mold release issue. I'm not usually the type to take pleasure in other peoples misfortune, but watching the sped up attempts to release from the bucket was actually very funny indeed! But.... aside from that, WOW! What a result! The bowl was stunningly beautiful and most definitely worth the hassle involved . Keep up the fantastic work Jim.
It’s an awesome bowl, no more mold release for me, only paste wax from here on, haha. Thanks 🙏
Good thing you used that Mold Release. I haven’t laughed that much in the last few years. The section without sound I can only imagine there were some unhappy words being uttered.
The struggle is real, lol. Thanks!
I think that this is my favorite bowl! I have to tell you I was laughing so hard watching you and then you said "that is one strong bucket" -- I began laughing all over again!
Beautiful work Jim! Thank you for sharing.
I will not be defeated 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 lol. Thanks
The best part of your videos is when you try to get them all out but this one kicked your ass LOL look like you had a very good workout
The struggle is real, haha. Thanks for watching!
Hands down, that’s one of the best you’ve turned yet, Jim! I think you’re choice of color and accenting for the resin turned out amazing. And I, too, love GF Wood Bowl Finish as it just keeps getting shinier the more coats you add!-)
Thanks 🙏🏻
You should definitely put the pounding on your intro.. I did see another resin user, MPC, use an air compressor to get the resin out of the bucket? Love the colors you use and your techniques.
I’ve used the compressed air method without any luck in the past and it certainly wouldn’t of worked here either, lol. Thanks 🙏
Stunning bowls. ❤️
Thanks 😊
Didn't think the colors were going to do it for me but you surprised me again Jim. :- ) Beautiful bowl!
Thanks Tim. Been wanting to do the color for a while!
Amazing bowl. Thanks for sharing this with us. Happy to hear about the left hand turning methods. My wife is left handed and I'd like to give her an opportunity to learn this pastime.
A lathe with lefthand threads on the outboard end is the key. Thanks
Hi Jim, When you poured that Black resin, I thought that was a terrible choice of colors, but in the end I was totally wrong. That is amazing. Ron
Their a good match! Thanks 🙏
That was hilarious, it was like watching a Benny Hill sketch, but as always a beautiful piece.
Lol, thanks 🙏
Beautiful bowls as always Jim. I felt so sorry for you as you struggled to release it....yes Benny Hill!! I love the coring system. It saves so much waste and must be so economical for you. Thanks for the videos.
Thanks 🙏🏻
I throughly enjoyed this video. The bowl is beautiful and you started off my day with a great laugh watching you try to get the blank out. I kind of hope the wax doesn’t work.😂
Lol, thanks!
Jim, it looked like the resin got under the tape in the bottom of the bucket. The bowl is absolutely beautiful.
Agreed! Thanks 🙏🏻
A beautiful bowl. I normally don't like black but that has to have been the best black in the book
It’s awesome! Thanks 😊
Another beautiful bowl Jim, great choice of colour and what a finish. See you next week.
Thanks Mark!
So now if I do any resin work I'll have to go to Canada to get some Tim Horton's cups for measuring. The things we do for our art!
The larger bowl is absolutely gorgeous. The maple and black resin go together extremely well.
Thanks Michael!
Everyone’s a winner with this guy , awesome
Lol, thanks 🙏
I'd ask for my money back on that release spray!!! All that pounding was worth it. Very beautiful
Glad to entertain, lol. Thanks 😊
Bwahahahahahaha! Ya know Jim, you could “splice” all of your mold release clips together for one hilarious video. You are sooo funny!
The struggle is real, hahaha. Thanks!
Absolutely hilarious to watch and fast forward
It was a tough one, lol. Thanks
Thanks, Jim, you definitely got a gym session in. I love it!
Lol, thanks 🙏🏻
Wow 🤩 Large bowl is awesome, Jim!! Amazing what you can do with a piece of “crap” wood 🪵 to start with… great job 👍
Working with resin is very rewarding, thanks 😊
The burls are stunning, love how the resin fills all the cracks. The resin color is just great. Just a fantastic work of art sir, just fantastic. The wood you can save with the resin is great. Makes you look at your fire wood pile in a whole new way. This set of bowls are outstanding pieces. The black resin is stunning, great work sir.🌿 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Always scanning firewood now, lol. Thanks
tha struggle scene was gold ! lol 🦾
Yup, haha. Thanks
Beautiful bowl with a wonderful colour combination. Had a bit of laugh as you struggled getting the piece to release from the bucket! Nice you left that in the video so we see the struggle is real! You are a good sport!
Lol, thanks Kathryn!
Thanks Jim, looked as if the tape and the release agent combined to make super strong glue. Thought you were going to have to cut the bucket off, made me smile though. Lovely piece as always.
Me too, haha. Thanks 🙏
This is a waay cool video. I really like how you don’t take your self too seriously. Even my cat Amelia looked as if she were chuckling. And the bowl! Purrfect.
If you can’t laugh at yourself, then you should never laugh at others, lol. Thanks 😊
A little late viewing this one but well worth it. Beautiful bowls and super entertaining!! Thanks Jim.
Thanks Tracy!
Never a disappointment with your work!
Thanks 🙏
I’m sure you have saved a bunch of money since starting with resin by cancelling your gym membership!! LOL
💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 thanks 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Jim, Sense I only turn resin and wood I only watch channels that do the same. Sense I started with resin my sales went way up to the point I don't turn all wood anymore.
Your work is interesting and you do a good job on voice overs.
When I have voids I fill them with sanding dust and ca to eliminate the problem with air trapped in the void.
Good turn,
Lee
Thanks Lee, the resin is hot right now. I’ve still have customers that hate the resin and prefer all wood. Jim
I worked in a cultured marble shop for years. We used car wax like turtle wax for mold release, works great. Hardly ever an issue. It hurt me just watching you banging away on that bucket. Good job!
I’ve used wax before as well and it’s works great. Thanks!
Dramatic contrasts between the maple and black pearl, gorgeous. I am but a lowly painter but I feel your pain in struggling with materials. The 'real person at work' is the most valuable element of your videos. Those bowls don't make themselves.
It would be nice if I had a team of elves working through the night, lol. Thanks
Fantastic bowl Jim I’m so impressed with mixing wood with resin well done looking forward to seeing next week
Thanks 🙏🏻
Gorgeous bowl with great grain and contrasting color. Thanks for the video, Jim.
Thanks 🙏
Outstanding work. We all can laugh at ourselves
Thanks again
JIM THE BOWL CAME OUT AWESOME.GREAT GREAT JOB.FROM DOUG.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks
