I didn't realize that working with epoxy was as time consuming as it is. You are right. I have three times the effort in a wood and resin bowl. But, it is a piece of art and for me, turning is a hobby. That is a great looking bowl and you gave me a few good ideas.
I am sure that there are people out there that will like the colors of the bowls but they are not my cup of tea. You did a lot of work and I'm sure there are people who will buy them. Not to worry tho..we all know that you can't please everyone all the time. I hope you have a wonderful Easter.. Please stay safe and keep on turning.
The bowl is amazing. It is good to seee that you also make "mistakes" when pouring. The colors work well together and it really like the black ring around the bowl. It brinss it all together
Brilliant. The depth effect adds mystery. It grabs your attention and you stare working out how in the heck it was done. Thats if your not a turner. 😊😊😊😊
Oh man, I feel for you. There is no worse feeling than having a part not release initially. For context, when we do tool prep in the aerospace world we have to get the part surfaces absolutely squeaky clean and then polished and then cleaned again. We don't take them to a mirror finish, but they are headed that way. All to deny the epoxy any chance of getting any kind of mechanical bond to the metal. Then the release agent (or agents) go on, usually two coats for a tool that is already coated, more like six for a new tool. I am so glad you didn't have to sacrifice the pressure pot. Also, hot damn those things look amazing. Beautiful work as always.
@@SpragueWoodturning If I had to guess, I think that paint saved your butt. If the epoxy had gotten ahold of the steel you could have hit that thing with a train and it wouldn't have popped. Wish I had some pictures of times where release agent has either fully or partially failed during an autoclave cure, an ~1/8 inch carbon fiber laminate will take a 1/4 inch steel plate and bend it like a Pringle.
This is so visually interesting, with the pattern and colors. Love it, great job. I like the slight staining fron the resin on the wood, it ties the black band together. Just spectacular 🎉
They turned out way better than my initial thoughts, way cool, you have way more patience than I do! Great job! Oh and you can keep your snow and cold weather, thanks you very much!
I am fairly new to this channel. I can say that, so far, I have never seen you take on a more complicated project. I don’t know how you can imagine what it will look like when you are done. It was also very entertaining. Putting it out in the snow, putting it upside down on props - it was amusing what all you went through to get it loose. One of my favourite parts in your videos is watching you struggle to get it out of the mold. I also like seeing you covered in epoxy shavings. This was a huge project and I really enjoyed this video. Beautiful pieces once again. It was well worth the extra time you put into it.
Very different. I know a lot of comments about people liking it but I’m not a fan of the modern look, but that’s just me. I think the red was too wide and red is my favorite. I can’t believe you poured the resin in the pot LOL. You are one of my favorite turners. Stay safe and keep warm. God bless 👍
I love the colors, as you say personal taste, but I think if this was done again with earth tone type colors you would end up with something that looked like a rock with loads of intrusions pushed through through it, which would be a touch more subdued and also beautiful. And the resin pushing into the wood would look fantastic with those colors as well.
Wow they look amazing ,very clever technique with the spacer . i will be honest , both of them look good but the small bowl looks wicked wow . thanks for mentioning me and my channel .Cheers Ahron
You had me rolling on the floors, laughing like a fool when you weren’t able to get the bowl out of the pressure pot! This turned out to be sooooo cool and I love that they are a set! The colors are fantastic together! Beautiful piece! Great job! Bravo!
Jim! This is one of your best videos and best outcomes to date on your resin journey 💫🎉💕🎊 Dont worry about it being long, it was thoroughly entertaining! Even if you did, uhhh, 🥺 screw up with the pressure pot! Thank you for sharing that part of your journey as well 😆 I absolutely LOVE this project! I like how the resin worked with you to create that third dimensional impact by bleeding into the wood. Amazing colour combo!
It was a really cool effect and I’m not sure if I will ever do one again, one of the goals of my channel it to teach others what not to do, hahaha. Thanks K
Thanks for.showing the pain and agony as well as the successes I watch these to see what to do as well as what not to do. You are an inspiration to all of us that love turning.
Amazing! Both bowls are beautiful. My personal favorite is the small bowl. Thanks again Jim for sharing your amazing projects. ❤🙃 Yes, I was one of those screaming not to cast in the pressure pot. Hope your pot is still usable.
This time you went way out of your usual way of doing bowls. I really like them. I was one that was thinking doing it in the pressure pot was so very wrong!! I'm glad it worked out and you got it out!!
In terms of time and resin these bowls are priceless, but worth it. They are the best ever. Absolutely beautiful. So unusual. I follow Aaron Aficanmeat. He is wonderful too. Thanks for the videos Jim. I have learned so much from you. I love your work.
Terrific video Jim, I don't normally go for resin but you did an excellent design with these bowls. Plus you something new every week. 'till next time, stay safe.
Wow!! What salad bowls!! Strips of red and green bell pepper mixed among the lettuce would match the colors perfectly! Hmm,,,,,I think I’ll have a rasberry balsam vinegarette dressing with this salad please. Very innovative although I think I see more gray in the whiskers after this episode.😤🤣😂🤠 Very well done!!!
Wow Jim for a person like me that has no idea about wood turning that certainly is different, i have never ever seen anything like that before and im really glad you gave it a go you did a super job.
You said in the beginning might be too busy for some .. well not for me! These are absolutely beautiful! Wait that word does not fit got to replace it with stunning!!! I love wood and colored resin it's the only way to go in my opinion!
Wow awawesome job I wasn't sure about all the colors but it is cool I have been hesitant to try the neon colors but I'm going to order some thanks again for teaching me something new.
I've watched several of your videos, but this one finally made me subscribe. Amazing job! I'm willing to bet that when the blank wouldn't come out of the pot you were thinking, "I wish I hadn't oughta done that." When all else fails, use a bigger hammer.
I love this look! I'm not personally a fan of this specific colour combo, but I would love to see this technique used with your Peacock colours! It would be great fun to see you exploring this technique in different ways should you wish to in the future. I think it would be interesting to see how more "precise" geometric cuts mapped out with a compass or something would look compared to the more relaxed freehand lines, though I don't know if that would look too rigid with this style. Maybe a piece of wood with a really defined knot or 2 to base the cuts around would be a fun project to experiment with! As always, stunning work 💜
FANTASTIC, WOW, this is very unique and quite a ton of work. It looks so smooth as if the finish was epoxy and not WFSBF. One of the cooler pieces I’ve seen. The yellow really glows. The red portion looks like an aneurism, not that that’s bad, it gives it character. Love it.
They're absolutely amazing! Gorgeous and the colors just pop. It looks like a multiple lightning strikes have hit the wood and the newest is that gorgeous red. Just a beautiful 2 piece set.
Another beautiful piece, Jim. I follow Ahron. Not only is he a fabulous wood turner, he is a very clever engineer. Ray Whitby also does some very interesting work with resin so it’s worth checking him out. I am in the process of buying a pressure pot so should start casting in the next couple of weeks 🌞. Stay safe and regards to you and your family.
Jim, I've been going through your back catalogue in a fairly random fashion (I must've watched 30 or so!) & I have to say this is by far my favourite! If I ever found myself in a postion to afford to commission a bowl set from you, this is EXACTLY the style I'd go for! We would need to talk about colours though!! 😀
Nice idea, I prefer more classic styles but why not, it's nice to try new things! If you need to keep the pieces spaced evenly, maybe you should just go the extra mile to glue them on a base before pouring the epoxy. Also, glad to see your opinions on mistakes and possible routes, always entertaining AND educational. Keep growing!
Great result after that frustrating pressure pot boondoggle... I cringed when I realized what you planned to do ... very glad you finally got the piece out of there!
Even mistakes can be beautiful serendipity. It still turned out gorgeous. Would that my mistakes would turn out that gorgeous.
Thanks 🙏
I didn't realize that working with epoxy was as time consuming as it is. You are right. I have three times the effort in a wood and resin bowl. But, it is a piece of art and for me, turning is a hobby. That is a great looking bowl and you gave me a few good ideas.
Thank you!
With all the cuts and then more pours, you got what looks like a layered root system or veins! It's beautiful!
Veins, totally! Thanks 😊

It’s very busy and not for all. Thanks and happy Easter to you too.
It’s beautiful, but I don’t wonder if one colour would have been better
The bowl is amazing. It is good to seee that you also make "mistakes" when pouring. The colors work well together and it really like the black ring around the bowl. It brinss it all together
Thank you very much!
I love the square 90 degree angle for the bowl edges. Really suits the over all funkiness of this work. Thanks
Thanks for watching
I'm catching up on old videos -- wow, this is crazy cool!
Thank you very much!
Your puzzle bowls are BEAUTIFUL 😍 VERY UNIQUE AND UNUSUAL an I LOVE THEM 💘 ❤ 😍
Huge amount of work, thanks 🙏
Truly different than anything I've seen. Beautiful.
Awesome! Thanks 😊
When you first started I thought this is not going to be good. When finished I love it. Great job.
It’s a very unique piece. Thanks
The bowls came out really great even though you had a few problems and your color choices in my opinion is spot on, great outcome as usual sir 😀
Thank you very much!
The bowl form is perfect for this design.
Thank you so much!
Fantasyic bowl you made there. And lots of people learned plenty of it to, many to do and not to do.
Great work Jim.
Thank you.
Thanks 🙏
Brilliant. The depth effect adds mystery. It grabs your attention and you stare working out how in the heck it was done. Thats if your not a turner. 😊😊😊😊
Thank you very much!
Absolutely beautiful. I'm glad you managed to get it out of the pressure pot.
Thanks 😊

I’m still a little shocked how the resin bonded to the paint so well, it was like I never sprayed the pot at all with the release agent! Thanks 🙏

Take care & God Bless!!!
Thanks 🙏
Love this bowl, especially how the staining makes the yellow look greenish in places and gives the whole piece an almost drawn in look. Very artistic.
Thank you very much!
FAb piece man she came out real beautiful looking man ! love watching the art form cool
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks
This is so visually interesting, with the pattern and colors. Love it, great job. I like the slight staining fron the resin on the wood, it ties the black band together. Just spectacular 🎉

Those bowls are exceptional. Very different to what you usually do but I think it was totally worth it. Absolutely beautiful.
Thanks Jacquie!

I agree Alex, if I were to do it again I would take out the black and put a more flashy colors to make it really pop, thanks!
I get it Janice, I knew it was t going to be for everybody, lol. I can’t believe I did it either, hahah. Thanks
Wow they look amazing ,very clever technique with the spacer . i will be honest , both of them look good but the small bowl looks wicked wow . thanks for mentioning me and my channel .Cheers Ahron
I’m with you the smaller bowl has more resin in it making it flashier. Your a talented man, thanks for the inspiration and my your channel grow!! Jim.

This actually turned out a LOT better than I thought it would. I'd love to own one.

It's pretty in colors and wood. The bottom looks like a close up of a city map with a river and canals. I would buy it.

Awesome looking bowls.

WOW!!! Those bowls are stunning! REALLY cool and love the gloss finish on them. They're both works of art!
Thanks Carole!
This "resin staining" you mention indeed makes it look even better.
Agreed, thanks!

Thanks, I’m always learning and yes I should of used hot glue on the one pour, Jim.
That bowl is beautiful, I hope you do more of these!
