For those that don't like the old 2005 graphics, the Ultimate HD PC version is actually worth looking up not because of the port itself, but because of the RE4HD Project mod that is made for it that is absolutely insane on the sheer effort put into this thing.
Absolutely the RE4HD Project is the best way if you can. Fans found the real world locations and buildings in Spain that Capcom took photos of to make the original textures, and took new high resolution versions. Not only that but they've been remodelling flat geometry that used 3d sourced materials to fit those original sources. I don't think we'll ever see a fan remaster as good as that project, ai upscaling is cool when it works (depends on the art style or rendering technique), I'm not a fan of new textures made from scratch made to mimic what the artist thinks it should look like, but the peak is finding the actual texture sources. If Capcom was smart, they would contact the fans working on RE4HD Project and work with them to implement that work officially into new releases, it's a given Capcom will put out RE HD ports on PS5 and XSX, why not update them considering the work has been done for them (also some of the updated textures in the "HD" RE4 ports are in some cases lower resolution or completely different from the originals, so there's multiple reasons to use the mod over Capcom's official HD releases). Frankly we don't need a RE4 remake, the gameplay holds up to this day and any complaints about the visuals being dated, the HD Project Mod fixes.
The Zeebo was also released here on Mexico, being sold at Walmart (though some games were only released on one country or the other). Needless to say, in the era of PS3, X360 and Wii, it didn't fare well, thanks in large part to its catalog (it was seriously underpowered, so the libray consisted of old games, downgraded ports, and educational titles) and its price (too expensive for what it offered). Regarding "Resident Evil 4: Zeebo Version", it was only released on Brazil, it is a port of the iOS/Android version (and not the other way around, as some claim), and its main claim to fame are its blue-colored enemies. While lacking, simplifying or reworking many features of its console brethen, the iOS/AND version can still be considered a good game, due to its mobile nature (the mission-based gameplay works really well to play for short periods of time) and being released when these devices weren't as powerful as what we have nowadays; and, as a bonus, it doesn't feature the Smurfs as Ganados.

It retailed, at launch, for $3,000 pesos ($141 dollars), then $2,250 ($105), then $2,000 ($94); buying a PS2 was simply a far better deal. The magazines largely ignored it, but Televisa and TV Azteca aired several spots (where they referenced and emphasized its edutainment aspects, and that alone says a lot) and the console was heavily promoted in "En Familia con Chabelo". It failed to generate enough interest and quickly lost its own booth and shelf and was relegated along with the rest of the low cost and cheap electronics. Here on Mexico City and its Metropolitan Area, it was on shelves for less than a year.
By the way, Zeebo Inc. was established and funded by TecToy (Sega's longtime Brazilian partner) and Qualcomm, and had agreements with Telcel, Claro and AT&T.
Hey Uncle Derek, I'm from Brazil and a Zeebo is kinda common to see one by here, it isn't super expensive, but it is more expensive than it should be, mainly because of the console fragility making a little hard to keep one running 100%. But if I can help you guys to get one in any way, please let me know!

@@Sameeer_Saker I'm from México and i was easily able to find a couple also on MercadoLibre (a latin america eBay type of website) for less than 150 dollars, so yeah, a thousand dollars for one is completely crazy.
The PC port on Steam has actually proper mouse controls and its my favorite version by far. It also has a text file where you can set RGB values for the laser
What does it do if you change the text file while the game is running? Could you synchronize the in-game laser to a PC's RGB lighting with a simple script? (just because)

Not the original PC release. I have it. And God... it's the worst version. Worst than the Zeebo version, at least that one it's playable. The later PC versions got better, but first impressions are the most important. And it sucked on PC.
@@trustyvault13canteen32 Ik this comment is 11 months old, but.. On the Wii, you had to aim by pointing the Wiimote at the screen (duh) and I really liked that In RE5 on pc, there’s an aiming mode similar to that. I want that on pc, but in RE4. Is there any way to get that?
A few things to note about the Wii version: -There are more enemies that spawn to compensate for the motion controls, so playing with a controller puts you at a disadvantage -If you set your Wii to widescreen in the settings, the game actually gets blurrier as it tries to zoom in the picture. It's worth setting your Wii to 4:3 in order to get the most resolution out of the game.

Really not a fan of the Wii version, specially because of the ''more ennemies'' thing you've mentioned. I sold it once the HD ports (PS3/X360) came out. I still have my original GameCube copy, tho

I've tried to play Skyrim multiple times (I think it's somewhere in the teens now) and can only get to getting the dash from the Greybeards before I get board and turn to modding. Where as I've never had to mod RE4 to have a blast. Doesn't help that Skyrim is running on one of the worst engines I've ever seen, either. Have to turn my monitor down from 144Hz to 59Hz every time I wanna play, otherwise the physics go insane and the game basically refuses to function properly, so it kills the motivation to even start it up anymore.
My first version of RE4 was the PC version. I bought it on impulse because it was on sale. That lack of mouse support was a nightmare, especially with Leons's shaky hands. I was really upset. Fortunately there was a patch that a girl that was renting a room at our house at the time got working for me. Shout out to Jen. I learned a lot from you.
Its not onlt Re4. Most recent Re games are rereleased. If we include remakes I think we can play all Re Cannon games on PS4 (thinking about code Veronica now). All RE 1 to 7 or maybe 8.
I got the ps2 version on the day it came out, had to get a ride after high school to the game crazy the next town over. Once I got it home I played it for 6 hours straight without getting up. RE4 is probably my all time favorite game.

I've put my RE4 times on hold until the fantastic RE4HD texture project is finished. All textures either being made from scratch or remade using images of the original sources (photos from locations taken to create textures from), 3D model enhancements and fixes that the lower resolution of the GC/Wii covered up, lighting and specular fixes to bring the game closer to the original look the GC/Wii versions had in terms of color tone and light effects. It's also being done by only two guys that I'm aware of, and their work is top notch. They've gotten through chapter 5-3 so far.

Derek, I think what I admire most about you is that you ENJOY the flaws in games. You point out exactly what the game is bad at, and then you cherish it for that exact reason. Any other plain-old review would say "UGH THESE GRAPHICS SUCK, THE GAME IS TERRIBLE" and knock off points for it. Hearing your take is such a refreshing breath of fresh air when compared to the endless mountains of rage and annoyance that many other gamers seem to portray. Thank you for everything you do. you forgot to mention that the PRL 412 got a huge buff in the wii version and onwards the gun originally was really weak in the PS2 port, but now it can shoot multiple beams, destroys barrels, and charges muuch faster
You can easily get a Zeebo for less than 50$ dollars in Brazil, they are mostly worthless collectors items, just ask for any Brazilian (like me) to ship one to you.
Actually you missed that the original pc port was a port of the ps2 version, with the low poly models, and didn't have any lighting, shaders or shadows present in the ps2 version. It is a bad port of a bad port. They added basic lights in a patch, but never added everything, then ubisoft stopped selling it.
The controls were horrid as well, the mouse controlled the camera that isn't useful so you're stuck with keyboard only controls where the quick time are represented by numbers instead of the pc controls which you would have to mod in just to see and even then it's a pain.
there's an hd version now that's pretty damn good also i played it on the PC and loved it.... you can force antialiasing and anistrophic filtering and it looks great.
The problem with 4 that I have is that the PC port honestly isn't that awesome. the menus and options are really lacking for what's supposed to be an ultimate edition. Forced V-sync and weak audio controls really make it hard for me to play it.
As a PAL player, all I can say is that North Americans got short changed on the box art. The PS2/Wii box art for the PAL release is poster print worthy.

You know something, I think that resident evil 4 remake that was rumored is the VR version that they're developing for the Oculus Quest because I believe that version is running in unreal
People can get upset all they want when a game get's remastered or ported a lot (Skyrim, GTA 5, Resident Evil 4, Sonic 1, 2, Minecraft, ect) but I see this as a good thing because it means a newer generation can enjoy these games, and they are better preserved. I think we should be upset when certain games, aren't ported.
Hey Derek. Just so i let you know, The move support was never patched in original release of RE5, it was new feature only available for Gold edition release that included all downloadable content

The mobile port of RE4 was actually the first version I actually played. I had recorded footage of it for a group Let's Play channel I used to be part of, but I double checked and realized I never actually uploaded said footage sadly. But I wouldn't mind playing that version again with a controller for the unique look of the graphics
I remember hearing a friend rave about RE4 when I was younger, and another friend of mine suggested he wanted to try it because of that. So I went ahead and bought the Gamecube version to gift him when I was going to visit later, but before that I played it myself to see what I thought. I hated horror movies and games and was still very squeamish to this kind of stuff, but yet my first experience playing it, I wasn't too bothered. After I gave him the game, I ended up buying my own copy, too. Then I ran into the chainsaw guy when I restarted because I had no shotgun, and he scared the shit out of me so bad I didn't play it again for over 8 years. Then I found out the modding scene for the PC version, looked for that and realized they had an easy mode in it, and beat the game that way. I'm still terrified to this day by the chainsaw guys, but even for a non-horror type of person, I can see why this game is so popular still. Leon is a really cool hero, and I've always liked him as a character because of this game. I just wish I could tolerate the blood and gore better to play it again, I'm always too afraid of getting killed and seeing some of the horrifying deaths that I know exist in it.
the problem isn't buying a zeebo. the problem is the stupid regian locking. the language barrier is already bad enough, but throw in regian locking and it becomes a whole other can of worms. they're actually triing to get zeebo emulation in mame (there's a sceliton driver for it in 0.226) and at least one game has already been dumped (double dragon).
Resident evil 4, or rather according to you: 4 Resident Evil, doesn't even need a remake, it's perfect as it is, what _should_ get a remake however is code veronica X imo
@Casdom Domcas you're blinded by modern game mechanics then, re4make will likely to be a waste like they did with re3, RE4 was not perfect but it defined how the franchise played later on, RE4/5/6 is what makes Resident Evil game nowadays, while the game mechanics are not that modern anymore, it's still pretty easy to get on with(if you just use a little more concentration on the game), you sounded pretty lame by calling us being nostalgia while we just want the thing stayed the way it is, I do hope there will be an faithfully updated version of RE4, but look at RE2/3 remakes, they are like completely new games that lost the original charm...

13:51 I'm honored to say that I'm one of the few humans alive that have actually played a Zeebo. I never owned one tho (can't tell if that's fortunate or unfortunate), I played it in a stand at the mall and if I remember correctly there weren't many people interested in it so I didn't have to wait long. The game I played was RE4 because it was the only game I knew and even as a dumb child I noticed there was something off.
My first time playing RE4 was on the Wii and honestly I was too scared of it as a kid. Once I got my first iPhone years later (3GS) this was one of the first games I got because it felt like a true AAA game on a cell phone at the time where flappy bird and candy crush were the only other options. I actually fully completed the iOS version on a cross country trip so I have fond memories of it.
Because Uncle Derek recommended it, A quick search the Internet and found Resident Evil 4 for the Wii with shipping and all for 12 bucks! I guess I would say I’m someone who is also getting really into this game and I’m happy to Play the official SSFF Stamp of approval best version of the game! You guys stay spicy out there!
Holy shit dude, this video yeeted me back to 2011. I played the iOS port on an iPhone 3G with no cell service that I was using as an ipod! It was actually pretty good, imo. It was a good time. That port of 4, and Degeneration, so much fun.
Fun fact about the PC07 version, it was based on the PS2 version, the shadows were utterly broken, and particle effects were missing. Thankfully a patch fixed some of these issues, but not it being based off the PS2 version so the incorrect colour grading was never fixed. Thankfully we got a good port in the HD Remaster, paired with the HD Texture project it looks great.
So that's the reason why I've never heard any reviewer mentioned the removed sections in easy mode… Cause there was no easy mode… All of the reviews and videos I've watched about the game were done by Americans, who so happen to never got the easy difficulty. A decade old mystery solved! I played it when it came out, at age 11 or 12. My first playthrough was on EASY since I found the game to be quite difficult. And after completing it, I went for normal and as soon as I reached the castle my mind was blown! There were sections that I hadn't done before! The side area, maze and clock tower were all new to me. And to think that a lot of people just didn't know about it for almost 15 years ia baffling to me.
i love that the zeebo port is actually just a basic java game ported to the zeebo, a first person half-life/counter strike game that reskinned the first person gun and hand into Leon. i fondly remember playing both the half-life and counter strike versions and when i saw the RE4 port, i was immediately thrown back

I replayed this game last sunday on PS4...after 15 years, its still as perfect as it was in 2005. Probably the best game ever made. Also worth noticing how good the game still looks, a testament about how powerfull the Gamecube was.
I'm currently playing the Wii version on my phone thanks to the Dolphin emulator (I find the MOD version works best for it). The great thing is that you can just set the controls to use the Classic controller and it's just like playing the GameCube version but you still get all the extra content.
Yep your not alone, I started out with GameCube as my 1st one. After I got the Nintendo Switch got curious when game went on sale during digital and recently brought a PS2 game lot and came with RE4 that I put up for sale on Ebay. So many ports these days that I'd just limit myself to 2 ports.
I have an older version of re4 from steam, and last time I played it on Normal the clocktower part was still missing. The door was just boarded up and I walk past it. I'm glad someone else brought up that it's part of an easy mode / later ports because I was thinking there was some mandela effect going on with that lmao
I played that ios port of RE:4 before playing the console version. What I remember most was that it was free to start. You could play levels one and two, but had to but the others in packs of three I think. Each one was like 4 bucks too, so the whole game was actually pretty expensive. There was a DLC laser sight that was blue and stunned enemies, and you had an inventory weight limit instead of a Tetris style one, just like the pre-order build. Also no shopkeeper lines iirc
Anyone else wish they used the Revelations 3DS engine to port RE4 to the 3DS? Revelations actually looked like it could be HD on the 3DS, so 4 could've looked just as good.

I remember almost getting a Zeebo when it was released because people were saying it had Sonic Adventure 1 in it's library and it was cheaper than the big consoles on the market, but after learning that it would run games from android and Sonic Adventure wasn't on it's library I decided not to buy it.
I almost got a zeebo for the same reason. Huge Sonic fan, never had a Dreamcast or a GC, really wanted to play the Adventure games. Luckily, I changed my mind and bought a DSi instead haha. Also, I think Sonic Adventure was released later in the Zeebo's (extremely short) life, or something like that? I'm pretty sure it was indeed released.
They released the Wii version on the Wii U eShop. They advertised it as a new "Wii U version", even making a trailer for it, but it's just the regular Wii version. Also, Nintendo advertised that the Wii U gamepad would function as Classic controller for downloaded Wii games, and the Wii version of Resident evil 4 used the Classic controller if you didn't want to use motion controls. But since you need to use the Wii remote and nunchuck at first and then change to the Classic controller (or Gamecube controller), the gamepad won't work because you can't connect it to the Wii remote.
That demo disk has some hidden goodies inside. My favorite is the slow-mo/bullet time mode that you would've been able to trigger that tints the screen blue (which is a color that fits the Biohazard 3.5 demos). It is theorized to have been used as a sort of gimmick (whether as a player mechanic or a cutscene/scare effect) in that version, iirc.
Ubisoft in charge of ports were terrible mistakes. Devil may cry 3 had terrible joystick support, no mouse support. IM GLAD it got an hd release that actually works like a game and not a madman experiment where you have to add like 3 patches to make it playable.
It's crazy to think i remember my sister and I getting this game when i was younger for the GameCube going home and playing it and now there's a VR port.
You probably have the pre-patched version of the 2007 PC port. In its initial release, the game had no lighting: no shadows except for the ones drawn into the textures and every surface was brightly lit. You can find footage of it by looking for the unpatched version. It's truly a sight to behold.
You can pretty easily sideload games onto earlier versions of the iPhone and iPod Touch. So, while not legal, you can still get to experience those games if you get the original hardware and spend a night finding the files you need. I know that isn't a good answer to the issue of digital games disappearing, but it's what we have until preservation gets serious with these older mobile technologies. Love your content, thank you for doing what you do.
Duuude! I subscribed immediately when you said that the Wii edition is your RE4 go-to! I've had all the versions but every year since 2008, I play RE4 on the Wii, it is my gaming addiction 😅

8:19 the wii version doesn't have the gamecube button prompts, it just shows the classic controller button layout when you play with a gc controller, not a deal breaker but just something to know when you plan to do a playthrough on wii & want to play with a gc controller

There's 2 versions, one in Cachoeirinha (extreme south of brazil, with a more reasonable price), and it has the RE4 port on its game selection.
The PC port on Steam has actually proper mouse controls and its my favorite version by far. It also has a text file where you can set RGB values for the laser
What does it do if you change the text file while the game is running?
Could you synchronize the in-game laser to a PC's RGB lighting with a simple script? (just because)

Not the original PC release. I have it. And God... it's the worst version. Worst than the Zeebo version, at least that one it's playable.
The later PC versions got better, but first impressions are the most important. And it sucked on PC.

In RE5 on pc, there’s an aiming mode similar to that. I want that on pc, but in RE4. Is there any way to get that?
A few things to note about the Wii version:
-There are more enemies that spawn to compensate for the motion controls, so playing with a controller puts you at a disadvantage
-If you set your Wii to widescreen in the settings, the game actually gets blurrier as it tries to zoom in the picture. It's worth setting your Wii to 4:3 in order to get the most resolution out of the game.
Interesting, I didn’t know that. But how do you play in 16:9 if you set your Wii in 4:3? Do you just play the game with black bars all around the screen?

Really not a fan of the Wii version, specially because of the ''more ennemies'' thing you've mentioned. I sold it once the HD ports (PS3/X360) came out. I still have my original GameCube copy, tho

@@MastarCheef1337 I dunno about that. I've tried to play Skyrim multiple times (I think it's somewhere in the teens now) and can only get to getting the dash from the Greybeards before I get board and turn to modding.
Where as I've never had to mod RE4 to have a blast.
Doesn't help that Skyrim is running on one of the worst engines I've ever seen, either. Have to turn my monitor down from 144Hz to 59Hz every time I wanna play, otherwise the physics go insane and the game basically refuses to function properly, so it kills the motivation to even start it up anymore.
My first version of RE4 was the PC version. I bought it on impulse because it was on sale.
That lack of mouse support was a nightmare, especially with Leons's shaky hands. I was really upset.
Fortunately there was a patch that a girl that was renting a room at our house at the time got working for me.

I got the ps2 version on the day it came out, had to get a ride after high school to the game crazy the next town over. Once I got it home I played it for 6 hours straight without getting up. RE4 is probably my all time favorite game.

I've put my RE4 times on hold until the fantastic RE4HD texture project is finished. All textures either being made from scratch or remade using images of the original sources (photos from locations taken to create textures from), 3D model enhancements and fixes that the lower resolution of the GC/Wii covered up, lighting and specular fixes to bring the game closer to the original look the GC/Wii versions had in terms of color tone and light effects. It's also being done by only two guys that I'm aware of, and their work is top notch. They've gotten through chapter 5-3 so far.
Sorry, but I can't help but get lost in Derek's ring light eyes.

Derek, I think what I admire most about you is that you ENJOY the flaws in games. You point out exactly what the game is bad at, and then you cherish it for that exact reason. Any other plain-old review would say "UGH THESE GRAPHICS SUCK, THE GAME IS TERRIBLE" and knock off points for it. Hearing your take is such a refreshing breath of fresh air when compared to the endless mountains of rage and annoyance that many other gamers seem to portray.

you forgot to mention that the PRL 412 got a huge buff in the wii version and onwards

but now it can shoot multiple beams, destroys barrels, and charges muuch faster
You can easily get a Zeebo for less than 50$ dollars in Brazil, they are mostly worthless collectors items, just ask for any Brazilian (like me) to ship one to you.
Actually you missed that the original pc port was a port of the ps2 version, with the low poly models, and didn't have any lighting, shaders or shadows present in the ps2 version. It is a bad port of a bad port.
They added basic lights in a patch, but never added everything, then ubisoft stopped selling it.
The controls were horrid as well, the mouse controlled the camera that isn't useful so you're stuck with keyboard only controls where the quick time are represented by numbers instead of the pc controls which you would have to mod in just to see and even then it's a pain.

there's an hd version now that's pretty damn good also i played it on the PC and loved it.... you can force antialiasing and anistrophic filtering and it looks great.
How exactly is the PS2 version a BAD port? PS2 is less powerful than GC. The port is "OK" at worst.

Eh, the originals still exist and I doubt they will alter the story events greatly.
The problem with 4 that I have is that the PC port honestly isn't that awesome. the menus and options are really lacking for what's supposed to be an ultimate edition. Forced V-sync and weak audio controls really make it hard for me to play it.

As a PAL player, all I can say is that North Americans got short changed on the box art. The PS2/Wii box art for the PAL release is poster print worthy.

People can get upset all they want when a game get's remastered or ported a lot (Skyrim, GTA 5, Resident Evil 4, Sonic 1, 2, Minecraft, ect) but I see this as a good thing because it means a newer generation can enjoy these games, and they are better preserved. I think we should be upset when certain games, aren't ported.

The mobile port of RE4 was actually the first version I actually played. I had recorded footage of it for a group Let's Play channel I used to be part of, but I double checked and realized I never actually uploaded said footage sadly. But I wouldn't mind playing that version again with a controller for the unique look of the graphics

I remember hearing a friend rave about RE4 when I was younger, and another friend of mine suggested he wanted to try it because of that. So I went ahead and bought the Gamecube version to gift him when I was going to visit later, but before that I played it myself to see what I thought. I hated horror movies and games and was still very squeamish to this kind of stuff, but yet my first experience playing it, I wasn't too bothered. After I gave him the game, I ended up buying my own copy, too. Then I ran into the chainsaw guy when I restarted because I had no shotgun, and he scared the shit out of me so bad I didn't play it again for over 8 years.
Then I found out the modding scene for the PC version, looked for that and realized they had an easy mode in it, and beat the game that way. I'm still terrified to this day by the chainsaw guys, but even for a non-horror type of person, I can see why this game is so popular still. Leon is a really cool hero, and I've always liked him as a character because of this game. I just wish I could tolerate the blood and gore better to play it again, I'm always too afraid of getting killed and seeing some of the horrifying deaths that I know exist in it.

the problem isn't buying a zeebo. the problem is the stupid regian locking. the language barrier is already bad enough, but throw in regian locking and it becomes a whole other can of worms. they're actually triing to get zeebo emulation in mame (there's a sceliton driver for it in 0.226) and at least one game has already been dumped (double dragon).
But the Zeebo version is just a port from the iOS and Android versions.

@Casdom Domcas you're blinded by modern game mechanics then, re4make will likely to be a waste like they did with re3, RE4 was not perfect but it defined how the franchise played later on, RE4/5/6 is what makes Resident Evil game nowadays, while the game mechanics are not that modern anymore, it's still pretty easy to get on with(if you just use a little more concentration on the game), you sounded pretty lame by calling us being nostalgia while we just want the thing stayed the way it is, I do hope there will be an faithfully updated version of RE4, but look at RE2/3 remakes, they are like completely new games that lost the original charm...
Of course, it is one of the greatest of all time after all

13:51 I'm honored to say that I'm one of the few humans alive that have actually played a Zeebo. I never owned one tho (can't tell if that's fortunate or unfortunate), I played it in a stand at the mall and if I remember correctly there weren't many people interested in it so I didn't have to wait long. The game I played was RE4 because it was the only game I knew and even as a dumb child I noticed there was something off.

My first time playing RE4 was on the Wii and honestly I was too scared of it as a kid. Once I got my first iPhone years later (3GS) this was one of the first games I got because it felt like a true AAA game on a cell phone at the time where flappy bird and candy crush were the only other options. I actually fully completed the iOS version on a cross country trip so I have fond memories of it.
Because Uncle Derek recommended it, A quick search the Internet and found Resident Evil 4 for the Wii with shipping and all for 12 bucks! I guess I would say I’m someone who is also getting really into this game and I’m happy to Play the official SSFF Stamp of approval best version of the game! You guys stay spicy out there!
Holy shit dude, this video yeeted me back to 2011. I played the iOS port on an iPhone 3G with no cell service that I was using as an ipod! It was actually pretty good, imo. It was a good time. That port of 4, and Degeneration, so much fun.
Fun fact about the PC07 version, it was based on the PS2 version, the shadows were utterly broken, and particle effects were missing. Thankfully a patch fixed some of these issues, but not it being based off the PS2 version so the incorrect colour grading was never fixed.
Thankfully we got a good port in the HD Remaster, paired with the HD Texture project it looks great.

So that's the reason why I've never heard any reviewer mentioned the removed sections in easy mode… Cause there was no easy mode… All of the reviews and videos I've watched about the game were done by Americans, who so happen to never got the easy difficulty. A decade old mystery solved! I played it when it came out, at age 11 or 12. My first playthrough was on EASY since I found the game to be quite difficult. And after completing it, I went for normal and as soon as I reached the castle my mind was blown! There were sections that I hadn't done before! The side area, maze and clock tower were all new to me. And to think that a lot of people just didn't know about it for almost 15 years ia baffling to me.

RE4 Occulus Rift port makes the game way easier than the Wii Version. But its a damn fun twist. the VR is welcomed.
i love that the zeebo port is actually just a basic java game ported to the zeebo, a first person half-life/counter strike game that reskinned the first person gun and hand into Leon. i fondly remember playing both the half-life and counter strike versions and when i saw the RE4 port, i was immediately thrown back

I replayed this game last sunday on PS4...after 15 years, its still as perfect as it was in 2005.
Probably the best game ever made.
Also worth noticing how good the game still looks, a testament about how powerfull the Gamecube was.

I'm currently playing the Wii version on my phone thanks to the Dolphin emulator (I find the MOD version works best for it). The great thing is that you can just set the controls to use the Classic controller and it's just like playing the GameCube version but you still get all the extra content.

Yep your not alone, I started out with GameCube as my 1st one. After I got the Nintendo Switch got curious when game went on sale during digital and recently brought a PS2 game lot and came with RE4 that I put up for sale on Ebay. So many ports these days that I'd just limit myself to 2 ports.

I have an older version of re4 from steam, and last time I played it on Normal the clocktower part was still missing. The door was just boarded up and I walk past it. I'm glad someone else brought up that it's part of an easy mode / later ports because I was thinking there was some mandela effect going on with that lmao

I played that ios port of RE:4 before playing the console version. What I remember most was that it was free to start. You could play levels one and two, but had to but the others in packs of three I think. Each one was like 4 bucks too, so the whole game was actually pretty expensive. There was a DLC laser sight that was blue and stunned enemies, and you had an inventory weight limit instead of a Tetris style one, just like the pre-order build. Also no shopkeeper lines iirc

I remember almost getting a Zeebo when it was released because people were saying it had Sonic Adventure 1 in it's library and it was cheaper than the big consoles on the market, but after learning that it would run games from android and Sonic Adventure wasn't on it's library I decided not to buy it.
I almost got a zeebo for the same reason. Huge Sonic fan, never had a Dreamcast or a GC, really wanted to play the Adventure games. Luckily, I changed my mind and bought a DSi instead haha.
Also, I think Sonic Adventure was released later in the Zeebo's (extremely short) life, or something like that? I'm pretty sure it was indeed released.
They released the Wii version on the Wii U eShop. They advertised it as a new "Wii U version", even making a trailer for it, but it's just the regular Wii version. Also, Nintendo advertised that the Wii U gamepad would function as Classic controller for downloaded Wii games, and the Wii version of Resident evil 4 used the Classic controller if you didn't want to use motion controls. But since you need to use the Wii remote and nunchuck at first and then change to the Classic controller (or Gamecube controller), the gamepad won't work because you can't connect it to the Wii remote.
That demo disk has some hidden goodies inside. My favorite is the slow-mo/bullet time mode that you would've been able to trigger that tints the screen blue (which is a color that fits the Biohazard 3.5 demos). It is theorized to have been used as a sort of gimmick (whether as a player mechanic or a cutscene/scare effect) in that version, iirc.
Ubisoft in charge of ports were terrible mistakes. Devil may cry 3 had terrible joystick support, no mouse support. IM GLAD it got an hd release that actually works like a game and not a madman experiment where you have to add like 3 patches to make it playable.
It's crazy to think i remember my sister and I getting this game when i was younger for the GameCube going home and playing it and now there's a VR port.
You probably have the pre-patched version of the 2007 PC port.
In its initial release, the game had no lighting: no shadows except for the ones drawn into the textures and every surface was brightly lit.
You can find footage of it by looking for the unpatched version. It's truly a sight to behold.
And now, they are porting this game to Oculus Quest 2, it's makes total of 16 systems by far.
This channel will never stop talking about Resident Evil 4 and I'm okay with that.
You can pretty easily sideload games onto earlier versions of the iPhone and iPod Touch. So, while not legal, you can still get to experience those games if you get the original hardware and spend a night finding the files you need.
I know that isn't a good answer to the issue of digital games disappearing, but it's what we have until preservation gets serious with these older mobile technologies.

8:19 the wii version doesn't have the gamecube button prompts, it just shows the classic controller button layout when you play with a gc controller, not a deal breaker but just something to know when you plan to do a playthrough on wii & want to play with a gc controller
