    One thing I really related admired about OG Leon was his ability to make jokes in the face of death. I didn't have social media at that time (thankfully) so my views on him were not influenced by anything and were my own. I compared Leon as a MC to the MCs of previous games I played like Prince of Persia and God of War. One has the power to control time and the other is a fucking god.
    Unlike them, Leon was a normal human being but the enemies he had to fight were not. One of the aspects I find most appealing about his character is his ability to maintain a sense of humor and crack jokes, even when faced with the most gruesome and monstrous creatures. It's almost surreal to witness a normal human being like Leon boldly stand his ground and use witty remarks in the face of these merciless monsters who are clearly bent on domination and fear.
    Leon's quick wit send a powerful message - that he refuses to be cowed by the horrors that surround him. It's as if he's asserting his own strength and resilience in the face of adversity, letting these creatures know that he won't be easily intimidated. This aspect of his character is not just admirable, but it also adds a layer of complexity to his persona. By responding to terror with humor, Leon seems to be not only defying the monsters, but also coping with the surreal and nightmarish situation he's thrust into.
    In a way, Leon's humorous demeanor becomes a coping mechanism, a way for him to retain his sanity amidst the chaos. It's as if he's telling both himself and the monsters that he won't let fear dictate his actions. This unique trait not only showcases his mental fortitude, but also highlights his ability to find a glimmer of humanity and light even in the darkest of situations.
    I fucking love Leon's skill for cracking jokes in the face of death. It really shows off his resilience, determination, and strength of character, making him an absolute badass

      To be honest: while I appreciate that joking manner of Leon’s more nowadays, it was my least favorite aspect about him initially. The way he is and plays in the remake of 4 was my original ideal version of leon and the game. That being said-it’s hard for me to decide if I like the original better because things are so much grimier as an adult that joking leon is a nice escape from that or if I like more down to earth leon since it makes him more relatable in such a situation.

    Resident Evil 4, as well as the old games, were not supposed to be taken seriously because they parodied American B-movies. The current ones, as well as the remakes, try to give seriousness to a plot that from the beginning had absurd things like a giant crocodile, an evil ppanta, a giant robotic statue or that one of its antagonists wears sunglasses all the time.

      3) the weapon upgrades being so expensive than original and being even more expensive in pro mode makes things more harder for u especially if u are trying s+ r rank bc you aren't Gonna spend your whole time in killing everyone to get money or will try to get every single treasure. I know u can use bonus weapon and it makes game lot easier but for me it is no fun to use a single weapon for the rest of the game.

      You know, other than the sections where you were separated from her I never had much difficulty keeping her safe. The game only tells you this once, but tight formation is for evading enemies while running away. If you use it in combat she's gonna catch a lot of collateral from all the attacks coming at you. Loose formation is best for combat, then use a little situational awareness. She usually backs away from you, so if you're facing the bad guys she'll stay behind and you form the line of defense. This also helps her avoid attacks as she'll run away from enemies instead of staying behind you in damage range

    TBH I feel like trying to claim either game is better than the other is kind of missing the point, at least from my experience. There seems to be a trend of RE players thinking that remakes have to "replace" the original just because the first game had that lightning in a bottle of a remake that did so. The RE Engine series has never quite been that sort of series for me, moreso a sort of modern "remix" of the originals, especially prevalent when you start in different places and travel the map differently in RE4R. That doesn't excuse every choice they've made, RE3R is still getting hell, but you can see in a lot of cases how they wanted to adapt the story rather than just do it all again.
    RE4's a different case because I not only got to play the original last year, but others are also able to do so. RE4 Classic is a widely available game, meaning that the importance in comparison doesn't feel as strong of a need like RE2 and 3 does. I have to emulate those games because the originals aren't available on my platforms. RE4 is just ... there. After playing RE4R I straight up went back to the original just to get the different vibe. Both games are great and they both deserve love to this day.

    Professional mode objectively is not a good time without bonus, skips, or cheats.
    I cannot understand why in a game that is about precision aiming they removed the laser sight on all weapons to make the weapons more imprecise. Imagine if Dead Space removed the lasers, gave the weapons a ridiculous amount of spread, doubled the movement of the enemies, and then expected you to make precision attacks. You could tough your way through it but you wouldn't be enjoying it.

    • @thatoneguy1232
      @thatoneguy1232 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hardcore is really fair if you’re good at the game. You know like good at aiming, making your shots counts, picking your spots wisely, avoid getting surrounded and cornered. And by the time you reach near the end of the castle, you should have most of your weapons fully upgraded. For me, I had my hand gun(SG, my favorite), shotgun(Riot Gun), and Combat Knife all fully upgraded around the mines section(Krauser was a cakewalk with my maxed knife). Reaching the island, I get my Stingray maxed out. Ammo was never an issue and I mostly kill everything on sight with a few exceptions like the opening village fight and occasionally I’ll run by the fish farm arena(can go back to collected everything later after Del Lago enemy free). I even kill Verdugo every time just because and I don’t even use magnums. I’m fairly conservative with my shotgun ammo and very liberal with handgun ammo. I only craft flash bangs and occasionally heavy grenades later in the game. Hardcore is a fun challenge
      I will agree that professional is pretty rough and I only played it for 100% completion.
      Nothing wrong with balancing the game’s weapons. We are are free to choose how we want to play. We’ve got the good ol classic all-rounder Silver Ghost which is very precise, compatible with the laser sight, amazing at crits. The Punisher is a bit weaker but has great penetration and while I personally dismissed it at first, it certainly still has its advantages and place. The Red9 is wildly inaccurate and pretty slow but in turn packs a hefty punch. Blacktail is also powerfully and pretty fast. The Matilda is basically an smg with its stock. You get to choose your style and I find nothing wrong with that. Why would you want every gun to pretty much be the exact same? Why even bother with other weapons if they all could use the same attachments? I like what each piece offers. Enemies are smarter and more aggressive and efficient. Why is that a bad thing? The player also has increased mobility. Positioning, timing, aiming. Name of the game since day one.

I don't think it needs a complete remake, but if they do, it would be cool to allow them to play with both fixed camera angles, and in 1st/3rd person. If you could switch between that, it would be really cool. If it is fixed camera angles, they can use pre rendered graphics, I really hope it looks photo realistic and has maximum brutality.

At any point a voice director can step in and have an actor make the necessary changes, so we're left with two possibilities. I was not at all excited for this game and had low expectations for it, as i consider the original an absolutely perfect game with almost no room for improvement, with a lot of the things that i love about it, namely the pacing of the combat encounters being so tight due to the limited movement requiring more thought than any shooter ive played, are things that couldnt be replicated today. I also played the original during my first ever heartbreak when i was 13, and it did a lot of heavy lifting at that time. Didnt think this could possibly touch that game.
    This remake is my favorite game of all time. Granted, this past month has been the hardest month of my life, which kind of mirrors the context which i played the original, but this past month has been just a nightmare. The amount of heavy lifting this game has done could not have been acheived by any other game.

  • @dntremad8290
    @dntremad8290 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    The biggest issue with Ashley is the fact that loose formation is just completely useless. It is never a good option and Ashley still gets in the way sometimes even acting like a ganado bodyguard, taking hits for them. In the og game Ashley was like an obedient dog, I dont know why people hated so much dealing with her back then and I honestly blame them for the way Ashley acts in the remake cause this is definitely the result of player feedback otherwise chances are we would still have "wait" and "follow me"

    • @thatoneguy1232
      @thatoneguy1232 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If Ashley gets in the way, it’s your fault. If she’s in your way then odds are you told her to back up in front of you. Tell her to come in and she will not always rush towards you and even do so while crouching if you’re aiming. That’s when you have her back up to avoid getting if enemies are close or have ranged options. She will listen to what you want her to do. If you don’t want to deal with enemies then keeping her close is the way to go but you still gotta create somewhat of a path for her. If a Ganado is in your way, they’re likely going to be in hers as well.

You see this in MMOs a lot, people go out of their way to cheat the system, buy currency with real money, circumvent ingame challenges or anything that requires any effort on their part. In a singleplayer game this means absolutely nothing, but it can and does absolutely destroy anything played with other people.
    And I hate the excuse of "hurr durr I have a real life, I don't have time to play XY game for hours on end" because that clearly means that the game isn't for you, if you need to cheat in order to participate in something, don't participate at all because all you're doing is ruining the experience for the rest of us.

You could play the cabin fight on professional with nothing but the starting pistol with no upgrades and get through it in like 6 shots if you were allowed to kick the enemies EVERY time. It worked in the original because of how much slower everything was, it would not work here. With the parry too? Forget about ever being in danger ever. The remake is a good game in its own right, and of course the original is just as good and influential as it always has been. The real question that nobody seems to ask is whether the remake was even necessary in the first place, and whether it can justify its existence in a market overly saturated with remakes, reboots, and remasters aplenty. I feel like ever since crowbcat's video, if you don't like re4 remake, they will say that you have nostalgia glasses, if you say you don't like og re4, you are a soyjack
      like I've seen plenty of comment sections like this and its beyond insanity

      @@Thonato420 Even before crowbcat's video they'd just blame you for nostalgia bias. It's stupid because I bet the majority of players are the new generation who refuse to play the original because it's "outdated" or "unplayable".

      The tightening of the crosshairs may work on slow shambling zombies, but Ganados rush you so often it's almost not worth it.
      I think they only really have it as a memento of the old games.

      I needed 3 shots from rifle to stagger an enemy carrying ashley during her water hallway section. Such a realistic approach from the dev...

    Excellent take. I think this is one of the best games of the year so far, but I felt burnt out while doing completionism runs too so I think there's a lot of nostalgia bias floating about. 2 things:
    1) the lighting is an issue. as much as I adore the RE Engine it's default light is dogshit. Are Japanese tvs just naturally brighter? I found some brightness settings on yt and they worked perfectly. If you ever play this again, google yourself some brightnes settings.
    2) every single review I have seen has either called Ramon's boss fight the best or the worst of the game :D there is never an inbetween

      OG Salazar's fight is dogshit, imo. The biggest problem with it isn't necessarily the design itself, it's that the prompts to dodge attacks can actually lock you into taking a different hit. The attacks weren't spaced out enough to account for the dodge prompt the game gives you.

      @@beancheesedip8337 OG Salazar's fight is actually objectively dogshit whether someone likes the fight or not. The fact there this is disagreements over the remake fight means the fight is at least better than the original.

    The solution to the Ashley problem: Take the characterization of the remake and combine it with the mechanics of the original. That way, she can be interesting, but still keep the core gameplay of the OG.
