I saw that method a few years ago, and it does work. It extended the life of my controllers by double (that dang left stick). I just got in the habit of doing it periodically to knock out any accumulated wear dust. Finally taught myself to do a stick module replacement when they eventually wear out. ( I have the previous versions, not the Elite. Now that I've seen the insides of one I'll NEVER get one, massively over-engineered to prevent self repair)
Used this video to try to fix my left analog stick “rubbing” when positioned to the top leftish corner. The cardboard wedge seems to have solved my problem. You sir are a saint. If the problem persists I’ll just send this thing back for a replacement or a refund. Thanks again.
oh… my… god. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I’ve never actually really liked tutorials like this because they never actually worked for me. I was having stick drift in my right stick where I would gently push it and it would keep going. Nothing too bad but became extremely annoying at some points. I got to method 2 AND IT ACTUALLY WORKED?!? No more drift and I’m really happy. Thank you so much. I’m going to sub now.
You are the first person to actually explain and show what you're doing at the level of explanation I need to do things. I haven't even tried anything yet. But even if none of the things you explained work for me. I will be confidant that I did everything I could possibly do to fix my problem. I really appreciate you for this. Thanks a million. Blessings to you and yours.
Hey there, I went all the way through step 10. The green thingy inside the joystick was indeed dirty for the axis that was having the drifting issue. Thanks for the information about identifying which part of the stick was tied to which axis, it was very useful. I took the whole controller apart, cleaned the problematic piece and put it all back together. It is now working again properly. Cheers! P.S.: I had an issue after putting it all back together where the controller would bind to the bluetooth dongle and subsequently turn off. Plugging it via USB seemed to have solved it. I could then rebind it to the dongle properly.
NO SHOT DID SLAPPING THE BACK OF MY BRAND NEW, CORE SERIES 2 CONTROLLER FIX IT?! I love you so much! You have no idea how dismayed I was. I just got my series S for christmas from my gf and I bought the white series 2 elite controller as a treat yoself gift and it already had stick drift. It's gone now, sir. Bless you! 🖤
I’m on my 3rd controller in 4weeks smh first one had stick drift, 2nd had stick drift and sticking & slow response on the button & the 3rd one…. We shall see
Thank you for the video, Method 1 was surprisingly helpful. Honestly didn't expect it to work. Ill come back to this video in a few days if the issue comes up again
Method 10 for me finally! Fun little after issue - my LB and LT were swapped, queue another hour of head scratching. I finally realised it was the profile on the controller!
Bro I had the elite series 2 and in a month I had crazy stick drift in my right analog stick, I would appreciate you for all the help because now I got that fixed. I was iffy on the alcohol and Q-tip, but it worked thank you 🐐
Thank you for making this video. Seems like poor design that dust can get through and make stick drift. I was lucky cause it worked after step 2. My controller is just a month old and already had this issue
In the Xbox controller screen beneath the update, there should be a recalibrate option. That actually did correct quite a bit of the drift i had in the left joystick. Didn't solve it completely but it's definitely worth trying.
I know this video is old now but a small tip I found, when taking the thumbstick covers off the actual potentiometer I used the tension tool or key that comes with the controller I put the key on the tension piece on the top and I proceeded to undo or at least loosen it enough so you could then unscrew with your hands sorry if anyone has already said this I didn't check the comments
I would use wedge first, then do the other steps. The Curve adjustment makes so you can change stick to you're preferable play style, then adjusts left to right until you get a consistent straight line going from bottom to top! hope this helps 🙏
If your elite 2 has drift issues and is out of warranty, Microsoft will send you a fixed one without you needing to return yours, the charge will be only $79 with free shipping.
Just a word of caution, those contacts at 22:08 are incredibly tiny and will bend if you look at them wrong, causing one of the axes of the stick to stop working, so be very careful when manipulating those!
My problem is that when I click the right stick it makes me spin but if I don’t it’s fine. So I can’t crouch in any game with it forcing me to stair at the sky
It could also be a software issue. I was using brand new xbox elite 2 controller for 4 days with steam deck, it was giving me left analog drift on system-> beta participation ->stable, so i switched to beta mode and it cleared immediately
Mine isnt old at all my bottom right analog started having issues about 8-9 months into buying it. When I push down to click the analog in it doesn’t click down all the way nor does it make the click feeling.. idk what the issue is bc there is no way there is dust or dirt in it. 🤔🤔
So I have the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, the thumb stick comes loose i mean i need to screw it the right (clock wise), then play for 5 minutes then it comers loose again, i find myself tighting in between game time, does anyone know how to fix? its works it way loose ( not in movement) tighening to the right as hard as i can then in 5min its loose again (not tight)
I assume you mean the outer, removable thumbstick comes loose. If so, that is a known issue. I have one like that. I think it's just the part itself getting worn from turning or whatever. If so, try a replacement.
@@HowToX if your looking down the thumbstick you can can losen or tighten by turning/twisting clockwise. I turn clockwise to tighten then it comes loose with in a couple of minutes. so is the problem you mean?
Man I feel kinda dumb. I aready had my controller taken apart a couple times teying to fix the LS drift and an unresponsive bumber. I used the controller for almost 3 years before it had any problems. Bumber was easy fix. Just needed some alcohol on the button inside the controller. Then the LS started to drift and I couldn't fix it, so my Elite 2 has just sat in a drawer for several months. Decided to try one more time. Turns out I'm just dumb. Forgot to try cleaning the stick moduale/sensor. Just popped off the controller face and unscrewed the stick dome as I did before, and all it took was a bit of isopropyl alcohol poored onto the offending sensor and lighly blowing it out with some canned air. Works perfect again. Dont know why I forgot to try cleaning it. Glad to be using it again.
Used the cardboard wedged method and it pushed my whole joystick in and now whenever I spin the joy stick it feels like something is stoping it from moving
Can the magnetic thumbsticks be installed on a normal Xbox X Series controller? Has anyone tried it? I would like to install that on my Xbox Core controller but I don't know if it would fit.
2:46 method 3 completely fixed my problem and im just amazed how stupid of a problem it was now my only problem ist my bumpers i need to hit them really hard for them to work
HowToX could you do a video on doing a full Elite Core/Elite Series 2 shell and button swap? I realize this video already includes a disassembly of the front and back shells, but I'd love to have some footage of someone also moving over the trigger lock and back button parts from the old back shell to the new backshell, and some footage of moving the light diffusers and other bits from the old front shell to the new front shell; as well as replacing the old buttons and bumpers and triggers with the new button parts. Specifically the bumpers and triggers. Just a suggestion since this is exactly what I want to do with my Elite Core, I want to swap its shell and buttons with the ones from an Elite Series 2, and I'd love to have your video as reference. Have a good one.
The first step got a small problem turned into a large piece of cardboard stuck behind my analog stick. Now, i HAVE to open it up to get it out smh... apparently not all controllers are safe to do this to

Thanks dude. I opened it up and found a booger in there. It was kind of stale, but still had that sour taste that I like
😂😂😂😂
Gotta love when percussive maintenance works on modern electronics!
"Percussive maintenance" amazing
There is no shot that slapping the back of my controller just got the drift to stop. Absolutely GOATED video sir, well done.
I saw that method a few years ago, and it does work. It extended the life of my controllers by double (that dang left stick). Just worked for me too lmao
Wow worked for me too 🔥🔥
Holy shit I thought my controller was broken and you guys were lying lmao. It worked
Wow, I was about to take my pro controller apart and method 3 worked for me to fix my left stick not responding at full tilt. Great video, thank you!!

Fixed on method 1! Been living with this shit for over a year :/ Much appreciation

Thank you for talking slow and making an almost 30 min video ❤
I almost fixed it with Method 1 alone, but Method 2 was where it stopped the drift entirely. Saving this video in case of further drift issues 100%
Bro my controller is brand new why am I having stick drift
Abit of drift is good, it keeps aim assit more active
Same

That's crazy. I had stick drift and did the tapping thing, works great. Bro you're the best🤘🏾🤘🏾
S tier video, took a little bit but you overall helped me.
Lol how did slapping my controller actually work? No joke, it fixed my drift that was happening for about the past year. Thanks so much!

Ive only had this controller for the 2nd day and there is a slight amount of stick drift, why would a new controller have stuck drift?
45 degree angle and slapping the controller fixed it for me thank you
Bought my controller used had stick drift now since did those methods and they worked in, thank you very much
Nooooooooooo way you helped you to get my stickdrift away eith the first metod! You absolutely earned you a new subscriber. Thank you very much🤝
Thank you!! My trace was filthy, cleaned it with a q-tip and no more stick drift!
That angle tap helped , thank you!!!
THANK YOU!!. MY RIGHT JOYSTICK WOULDNT LOOK UP OR DOWN PROPERLY
Wow the controller update actually worked (PC)
I was skeptical but something changed 🤷♂
Thanks g
Thanks
God bless you my left stick was stuck on down and the first step fixed my controller I should tip you 60$ for saving me $60
Wow, this actually work I was about to go buy me a whole new remote controller but thank you
Thank you for making this video. Seems like poor design that dust can get through and make stick drift. I was lucky cause it worked after step 2. My controller is just a month old and already had this issue

Bro my elite controller was so bad but I take of my stuff. But your 1st dirt method worked
Made it to method 2 and it was solved. Thank you!!
Всё гениальное - просто 😂the very first one worked as magic , thank you!
If your elite 2 has drift issues and is out of warranty, Microsoft will send you a fixed one without you needing to return yours, the charge will be only $79 with free shipping.

Where's the link
Thanks! Solved with the first three methods
1st one fixed the stick drift! Thanks 👌🏽
This Trick by 0:48 works!!! Thanks so much bro!!!!❤
Ok, I was skeptical at first, but it actually worked?! Not drifting anymore
Just a word of caution, those contacts at 22:08 are incredibly tiny and will bend if you look at them wrong, causing one of the axes of the stick to stop working, so be very careful when manipulating those!
Fixed my controller after the first fix in the video. Holy shit thank you
Mine has zero drift, but the mechanical dead zone is driving me nuts on both sticks
Dame the first method worked, thanks man
I removed the plastic ring on the inside of the left joystick space and it worked immediately.
Thank you man. Methode 1 worked for me 💯
I have a question so does the metal thumb stick work on the Xbox elite series one controller?
W advise definitely listen to this man my stick drift went away first method 😂😂
My problem is that when I click the right stick it makes me spin but if I don’t it’s fine. So I can’t crouch in any game with it forcing me to stair at the sky
Tysm first Medford helped me straight away
Hey, thank you so much for helping not have stick drift 👍
Great informative video baby bro
method 1 worked for me! thanks so much!!!
It could also be a software issue.
I was using brand new xbox elite 2 controller for 4 days with steam deck, it was giving me left analog drift on system-> beta participation ->stable, so i switched to beta mode and it cleared immediately
Thank you, best video ever!
thank you for being thorough
After the tapping technique my left stick isn’t clicking as good anymore it’s only a month old what should I do
Life saver! Method 2 worked like a charm. Pulled out a ball of hair. Gonna keep my cats away from my controller from now on lol
i have horizontal stick drift on both, what can i do on this situation can someone help me pls?
Mine isnt old at all my bottom right analog started having issues about 8-9 months into buying it. When I push down to click the analog in it doesn’t click down all the way nor does it make the click feeling.. idk what the issue is bc there is no way there is dust or dirt in it. 🤔🤔
Try the things in the video. I believe dirt gets in there at the factory, before it is shipped.
controller sticks on the up and down motion any fix?
So I have the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, the thumb stick comes loose i mean i need to screw it the right (clock wise), then play for 5 minutes then it comers loose again, i find myself tighting in between game time, does anyone know how to fix? its works it way loose ( not in movement) tighening to the right as hard as i can then in 5min its loose again (not tight)

First method worked instantly...alot of debris was flying out my controller when i gave it a couple of smacks, had stick drift for years 😂😂😂😂😂
will this help for me? mine analog is a little how to say this, loose in the middle
I have a problem where my controller turns off whenever i press down hard on the right stick is there a fix to this or should i just return it
If you can get a full refund get it then buy a new one

It worked first step thanks I’m subbing now
Thank you. First method worked.
literally only a little over a month of having it and here i am
My sons is 3 days old and has started with stick drift on the left stick
Used the cardboard wedged method and it pushed my whole joystick in and now whenever I spin the joy stick it feels like something is stoping it from moving
Weird changing the stick the plastic bit not the motor seams to have fixed it for me.
Thank you for saving my elite 2 🙏🙏🙏😬
i did step 1 to 4 and it fixed it! thx
i had a problem with the left stick getting stuck - solved by rotating the stick clockwise like a bottle top- it seemed to screw the stick back in lol
holy shit this resolved my left stick that was stuck..thanks for the info
Really helped thank you 🎉🎉
Can the magnetic thumbsticks be installed on a normal Xbox X Series controller?
Has anyone tried it?
I would like to install that on my Xbox Core controller but I don't know if it would fit.
Microsoft should bring out a update to have the option to adust deadzone in the accessories app

It was when he said about heating the stick I don't think you need heat or pliers I did it without both I just used the tension key
Highly engaging!
So, step 1 worked for me.. Im as shocked as you are lol
It worked thanks so much!
Thanks for Helping its means alot
What If I spill drink on the controller
Firs time with stick drift right thumb stick, only had it few days, had controller nearly 3 yrs, gonns try some of these methods
Did anything work mate ?
@@jpmcm8910 yeah, but an aditional to add is check firmware side for controller updates
bro you just fixed my remote with 3' inches of straw. thank you
First one worked for me thank you
What was your issue because for me it keeps acting like a full push is a light push
Question, so seeing any of the green adhesive on the thumbstick means it's broken?
I would not assume that.
i dont have drift, but my analogs are like of centered all the time, btw you dont need slow movement in Titanfall 2, just run, rump and wallrun :)
I use auto run in Titanfall 2. Still, if there is an issue, I suggest trying the things in the video.
