Keep an eye out for that if you're doing this, I nearly ripped the black wire off trying to flip the board! Thanks again.

No way you're Dutch! Here I was, thinking "another video from the US, probably with broken links for the parts and tools, I'll never get this done...". But no! Links still work, and will probably get the stuff I need in less than a week. Legend! Expect an order soon and I'll come back to tell if it worked for me. PS: great tutorial!
This fixed my drift. I bought two sensors just in case it happens again. Thank you so much! PS: if you're buying the sensors from XQ gaming and you live in the U.S. it will take about two weeks to get it shipped, but it's well worth it.
I have the same the drift issue nad I bought XB1 analog stick module from amazon and I am going to take the new sensors out from the new ones and replace it with the old module. Please advise me if anyone has doubts that will work or not.
@Tobias Lundström you can take sensors from old controllers as long as they have not caused drift issues with that old controller. The side sensor is for up and down movement. The bottom sensor is for right and left movement. Depending on what type of drift you have (forward/backward movement or side-to-side movement) will determine what sensor you need to replace. Same for the aiming joystick. Remember. Up&down = side sensor, left&right = bottom sensor
I spent three hours trying to get an xbox controller (not name-brand) to pair to my roommate's computer to replace her old one that wouldn't let her run left (very detrimental when you've got an angry B-52 dragon trying to carpet bomb you and you're trying to dodge.). After so much cursing and struggling, I found your tutorial, and it took me no more than 30 minutes to replace her sensor. Now it works like new! Can't thank you enough!
My mind is kind of blown right now. I've had to replace sticks for several years now and it's very easy with the right tools i.e. soldering iron, solder and desoldering pump/braid. I've never once thought of doing anything like this and just tried it out on a stick by "transplanting" another sensor out of a stick and IT WORKS! No drift! Now, situations like this are of course for sticks that are NOT loose and feel as they should, like the stick I just fixed, yet for one reason or another drift nonetheless. This video has opened a whole new avenue for repair for me!
BrokenLegBoy: Yes! I have various XBOX 360 controller parts and grabbed one from a board. As an added touch, I cleaned the inside of the small sensor housing with a Q-tip dipped in alcohol. Sensor seem the same size and diameter across all controllers. Again, my stick "itself" wasn't loose and as solid as a rock. Yet... drifted upward. Doing this fixed my problem!
This guide is everything. All I had to do was unclick the same part and clean the inside with iso and tooth pick/cotton swab. Replacing the sensor was not necessary
Thank you for uploading these instructions. I used a broken Xbox One controller to supply the necessary part for a Series X controller, turned out great.
was the stick drift for the actual like game input? would it just move up because that’s what happened with mine,,, wanting to check if i have to do this
@@jennaxx756 Pressing up on the analog stick would cause it to 'stick', continuing to send input, even when the analog stick was returned to a neutral position. You can download an app on your Xbox called Game Controller Tester. If you see the analog stick still registering input and moving when you're not touching it, it's likely a sensor issue. If that applies to you, you should be able to rectify it by using the instructions in the video.
Hey, idk if u could help me but, with my other controller I have always use this methid with alcohol, now with my new one, I tried to clean it and when I started playing I noticed my left joystick dosen’t move to the front or back, idk how to fix it!

Aliens From PR bro it’s so annoying cause I have to like double tap the controller so I can move I’m currently contacting Microsoft see if I can get a new one
Just cleaning and reseating the sensor took my drift away! The offending sensor seemed to have a lot of black oil on it and the others didn't. Wiped it clean, put it back in and it worked fine! This was a Series X controller that had the two coax antennae (not present in your video) so be careful removing those!
Came back to say "THANK YOU" had 6 controllers with one drift stick on each (thanks Micro$oft!) and this fix game me 3 almost new ones again. TY!! Tip, buy a small electronic repair kit. Having the right tools makes things 10x easier. BTW. I've tried almost every fix on YT I could find - don't pull off the little grey part like one of them says :(
Thank you! This is the best fix that i found. If you all see a other video of a guy saying to take off the grey plastic on the side of the module, DONT DO IT. You will destroy your module. Glad I found this!
Jacob Rebo I followed the other guy and it worked but then it stopped working after a while and it made it worse so I put it back on and I am planning on do what’s shown in this video, hope it works!
Worked perfectly for me. I actually ordered the analog assembly thinking I'd need to desolder the old one and replace the whole module, but I'm glad I found this, as it was all I needed to do.
Thank you so much! I had an issue where if I clicked forward on the joystick my character would sort of stutter when it walked forward or it wouldn’t move forward at all. This tutorial fixed that. I also didn’t end up having to pay for sensors because I just took sensors out of an old broken controller that was beyond my ability of repair. Your tutorial really helped. 👍
wow I have that exact same issue my forward direction on my joystick is faulty will sometime work sometimes not. which side sensor did you end up replacing? what was wrong with it?
I have controller model 1708 which worked fantastic for MANY years of heavy use and the right stick started to drift real bad. I bought a new one to replace it last month (April 2023) which has no model number I can see but says Xbox Wireless Controller in the battery compartment. This new one got bad Left stick drift this week, only a month after I bought it so I am going through the Microsoft Warranty to replace it, but I still want to play games while it's being replaced. I watched this video. I pulled out my old model 1708 today and opened it up and cleaned the filthy Sensor thingy (shown in your video here) with DEOXIT contact cleaner and swabs. This fixed the drift issue! At least long enough until Micro$oft sends me a replacement on the new one, I hope. I also just ordered a replacement sensor set for the future. Thanks for the video. The sensor piece is way tinier than the video made it seem, and closing back the green box after putting the sensor back in was a total PAIN - but, this worked, and I thank you for this video. If anyone has a model 1708, which is newer than the one in this video, you can view the video from SOSS GAMING that mentions NEWEST METHOD to show you how to take the controller apart, although there is one additional component mine had that is not addressed in either video: a tiny wire connected from the "motherboard" to the "stick board" inside orange cellophane that you DON'T want to break. It's front/center when you take the cover off and has a supertiny 'snap' type connector that seems like you should be able to disconnect/reconnect easily but it's so delicate I would not trust to do that more than a couple times. So, all in all, this was a no-solder fix and I am HAPPY for that!
I wish I could like this video more than once. Ripped the sensor wheels out of a shitty 3rd party Switch pro controller, popped them in my horribly drifty XBox Elite controller. Drift is completely GONE. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I'm really thankful, this tutorial just saved me a lot of cash buying another controller, i just changed the falty sensor for my old one from xb 360, its working normal now, thanks and congratulations for helping us
Best video ive found on the subject, 4:26 and on explains everything and helped me fix my 360 controller without needing new sticks! The piece shown at 5:31, I realized needs to have the metal at its 12 o' clock point ever so slightly folded/creased over so that its not totally flat. Thats what causes the drift! The piece doesnt go bad, the metal just flattens out. Restore the slight "bump" on the metal and your controller sticks will literally act like brand new, no replacement parts needed, no solder, no nothing!
I've bought these sensors as my last attempt to fix my Xbox One controller. With success!! The joystick drift is gone. 🥳 Thanks for this tutorial and the link to the webshop!
@@E-087 It depends on what problems you are having. I had forward stick drift, so I just replaced the sensor on the side and it worked perfectly. Pay attention to the note in the video that explains which sensor is for which direction. So yeah, it worked like a dream.
@@johnnyunderhillproductions8346 hmm. just seems like if this works, so would a normal cleaning no? what tracks the movement isn't the metal whiper but actually the carbon track it slides on meaning carbon likely gets on the whipers, i don't feel like this would fic a controller with genuine drift but not only would it not hurt to try.. i could be just wrong
Awesome. What I did was lightly retentioned the micro wires, and while at it I did the same to all four. It's now like a new controller without any drifting. Thanks for the video.
Actually, really facinating to watch how controllers are beign fixed. You learn something new. Came here to prepare to upgrade my pro controller for the switch, because I don't want the grinding problems that will cause the drift.
I watched this tutorial and started taking my controller apart... then realized the wiring was different because it was a Series X controller. Still was able to use the techniques without flipping the board, and was able to clean the existing sensor instead of replacing it. Thank you for posting this.
Just bought a controller from fb marketplace for $30, the guy said it was in perfect condition. Needless to say the up on the joystick wasn't working properly. Found a random controller and took this sensor out of it and it worked! Thanks for the tutorial, you saved me $$$
I was frustrated after watching a few videos on how to fix controller drift until I got to this one. Thank you for showing the sensor and how to get to it. This was the solution I needed to fix my controller!
Thx master this the problem what im looking for without soldering iron works very well and i dont replace it with a new one i just clean it with alcohol both side and my anolog its working perfectly fine now, life saver old vid but gold. I dont know why xbox has lot of people complain about this same controler problem they need to upgrade is very cheap build.
Just did this for my control. My left analog was really "loose" and would sometimes get stuck in the left position. I air dusted all 4 sensor compartments, then switched the 2 from the left analog stick to the right one (and vise versa). Left feels like new now and right feels loose (which im okay with, because I rarely use the right stick; and it doesnt stick left anymore). I would recommend just switching them like I did if your you think you use the other analog stick less.
I just fixed both joysticks on the ‘One S’ controller. That sensor thing is crazy tiny! Also, the new controller has a short wire connecting the two boards in the middle so you can’t flip that other board over. Both sticks were drifting for me. I just used cotton swabs and alcohol to clean all in there. Had to shave a bit off the tip of 2 screw drivers just to open it and unscrew the boards haha. but I’m crazy happy that it works just like new now. Had some yellow gunk. Thanks man!
Thanks! Managed to fixed my Xbox X Controller using parts from my old One Controller. Saved me some money there. I almost broke the X Controller housing of the sensor because of the angle, it wouldn’t go as far back like your video.
Thank you very much for this video! Saved me a lot of money. Actually, I just cleaned the small part and the green one on the inside and now I works just finde! Thumbs up !!!
Dude thanks. I didn’t have money. So I took apart a busted up 360 controller and took the sensor out of that. My original Xbox one controller lives again. Thank you
My issue is the left stick being unresponsive when pushing it forward, it works in all the other directions, just not forward, which sucks, I can force it to work by holding down (clicking) on the left stick while pushing forward Is this the sensor not working? I have a spare controller and would like to know if this fixed it if I do some surgery. Thanks a lot, this was a very detailed video!
I am really sorry guys, i was just going to do it, but i decided to try to send it to the Microsoft service first. They sent me back a new gamepad. If you havent take off the seal sticker yet and your warranty is still valid, I suggest to do that first. A shipment and a brand new controller is completly free.
Had the same problem and looked for possible fixes like blowing air, removing the grey clip (which I dont recommend) or even removing the whole analog stick (which I didnt try and probably also dont recommend) and then this video. It took me about 20 mins and the Controller was like new again! I had an old Thrustmaster Wireless controller which had a broken Analog-Stick-Button and took the sensor out of there. And it worked! Thanks a lot! This is a great turorial!
Thanks for this video. I have now made one working controller from two with different faults. Easy to follow and very clear, thank you for saving me £50! Happy New year 👍
I appreciate the video- spent $9 to fix two controllers instead of $150 to replace them. I thought I would need to replace and resoder the entire module unit, but NOPE. great job. I am NOT handy/technical and this was perfect.
This is what I did and it worked. I went to button remapping in settings, and I swapt the joysticks. I put that as my defualt, then I swapped back. swapping back after. This worked for me and other people.
Hi, I did the same thing without replacing the analog stick sensor wheel. I did remove the sensor, washed it with 99% isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush and put back the sensor in place. The color of the contact passed from copper black to metal gray witch is a good. It seem to have fixed the issues for now. Be careful not to damage the green plastic case it is fragile. Thanks for the tutorial
I was just about to comment that the old one could be cleaned rather than replacing it. Back in the late 70s, early 80s, this was a common problem with Atari paddle controllers. The parts were bigger and it was a knob instead of a stick, but it worked on the same principle. The contacts would get dirty/oxidized, leading to jittery movement. A good cleaning fixed this so that they worked like new again.
Fixed one of my analog sticks now the other one is not moving at all Also I didn’t buy new sensors just replaced them with a different controller that was already broken
It happened with me. Disassembling over again i discovered that those white pins shown on the vid at 6:24 can be damaged if you, somehow, manage to bend it. Well, the results of it was: my left analog was acting like the right analog on the X axis, and my right analog was doing nothing on the X axis. As soon as i inserted it correctly it just started working properly. Btw that was on my ps3 analogs, wich i did about 3 cleaning on those copper wires those pins hold. Have a great day
I'm actually surprised this worked. Thanks for the great video, and for the sensors I ordered from your site. You saved me (and a couple of friends) several hundred dollars.
This video is simply amazing. The music is relaxing, the instructions super clear, the picture quality is the BEST. I was able to fix my stick drift on my Xbox Elite controller thanks to you... without soldering! Cheers man
Thank you so much! All the video of fixing Series controller are either cleaning or soldering, no one mentioned you can actually replace this little ring. It cost me less than £2, and it's good as new (for now).
I finally decided to try fixing it and I did it after half an hour and I'm so happy, I've been having to deal with my broken stick for over a year now. Thank u for ur great vids
You're my fucking hero man. For so long I've been going through the pain staking, and horribly arduous task (at least for me) of de-soldering, and re-soldering the entire thumbstick assembly. I had no idea you could simply remove and re-install a new sensor; this changes so much. I had a $150 plus Razer Raiju PS4 controller that had analog drift issues. They refuse to repair units, and insist on instead replacing the entire thing, however because I'm in the US, and I didn't buy it from an "authorized seller" ( in the UK,) they won't honor the warranty and send me another unit, even though it's been less than a year since I purchased it brand new. They also refuse to send out PCB boards, or parts - I took my Raiju apart, and low and behold (as I suspected) they use the same thumbstick components, as pretty much all modern day controllers have for the past few decades. I swapped out the vertical sensor on the left thumbstick - and viola, no more drift. Thanks!!!!
This video is the only one that works! All that blowing and cleaning of the housing in the other videos did nothing for me. I didn't have to change the sensor. I think in most cases, the metal on the XB1 stick sensor undergoes some wear and deforms from the original shape. All i did to resolve the sticky drift on my controller (after trying everything else) was to realign the metal strips on the sensor (5:30 of video) and clean it up. Thanks XQ Gaming!
I used a sensor from a never used Xbox s controller(2022) to fix my rig nacon rev x. The Xbox sensor was black, and didn’t click into place. Totally lost the function of that axis. I reinstalled the nacon sensor which was white, and before doing this I cleaned the potentiometer track which I had not done, and that ended up fixing the stick drift. Any idea what the difference is in the two sensors?
Some might have the rings aligned different then others, so the sensor does not read correctly. The hole size in the middle might also be different so it might not fit well. The same issue is with the PS4 and PS5 green and orange potentiometers, different hole in the center so won't fit each other..
thank you so much friend with your class I was able to use the part of a broken xbox 360 that I have, so I managed to get control of xbox one. Thank you very much.
Thanks so much! Saved me 50 bucks! Only thing different was, mine had two tiny antenna (I assume) wires connecting the two boards together. The tiny sockets were so small, I broke one trying to get it back on. I took a chance and soldered it, and it worked! A quick recalibration was all it took to get it 100%.

*WORKED 4 ME!* - Fixed 2 Xbox One wireless controllers suffering with drift. I was ready to sell them on Ebay for parts or throw them in Ewaste until I saw this video thank you, you saved me some buck$
Just tried this, and Geez I payed R180 for 4 analog sensors and one new controller is R1599 imagine the massive save that this brought me.
I think I need to open a xbox controller repair centre
Thank you for this video my Gee
Bro!! Thanks!! This fix worked for me. The sensor didn’t come out as easily as in the video, but the steps were pretty much the same.
@@badhabbit84 This works bro!
@Tobias Lundström if it still drifts you are using poor sensors. Buy brand new sensors or a new controller 🤷♂️
@Tobias Lundström same sensors
I can't afford that shit so I have to just cripple until I get a PC that doesn't require a 60 dollar controller as an input
BrokenLegBoy:
Yes!
Will this resolve stick drift? When I turn left in first person shooters when I let go it will continue moving left slowly
Great!

This guide is everything. All I had to do was unclick the same part and clean the inside with iso and tooth pick/cotton swab. Replacing the sensor was not necessary
When I'm sleepy I just jump on this vid and now I got a sleep well music, g night gent. :D
I never comment, but this one saved me... Nice job! Ps- clean with alcohol instead of replace, worked great for us
Hey, idk if u could help me but, with my other controller I have always use this methid with alcohol, now with my new one, I tried to clean it and when I started playing I noticed my left joystick dosen’t move to the front or back, idk how to fix it!
Aliens From PR yep exactly same thing with me
alexander clavijo we fked up LoL, Im waiting to go to walmart and buy one but my mom dosen’t want to leave the house for a controller Im using my 4 year old other controller that is all broken LoL
Aliens From PR bro it’s so annoying cause I have to like double tap the controller so I can move I’m currently contacting Microsoft see if I can get a new one
ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL ONLYYYYY
Just cleaning and reseating the sensor took my drift away! The offending sensor seemed to have a lot of black oil on it and the others didn't. Wiped it clean, put it back in and it worked fine! This was a Series X controller that had the two coax antennae (not present in your video) so be careful removing those!
Came back to say "THANK YOU" had 6 controllers with one drift stick on each (thanks Micro$oft!) and this fix game me 3 almost new ones again. TY!! Tip, buy a small electronic repair kit. Having the right tools makes things 10x easier. BTW. I've tried almost every fix on YT I could find - don't pull off the little grey part like one of them says :(
Does it ruin the controller??
SpliffSized basically. I did it and it feels super loose and the drift came back after a few days. Def not worth
@@supjxy I did the same thing a week ago, I was so excited cause I thought I fixed it. Then it started doing it again, so glad I found this video!
wish I read this comment earlier ffs
great solution for people who don't have a soldering iron... nice
Yes it's the easiest I guess and works pretty good for the low price of a sensor.
Nice, yes this is way better then replacing the whole module, thats a pain the thy arse..
JuicyMangoes I didn’t know which sensor was the correct one so I just ended up replacing both of them.
@@AxeMan04x okay man thanks!
This is awesome. I've had my elite controller open for a month trying to get the solder off these contacts. This is the perfect work around.
Lead free solder is a bitch, isn't it?
I just took a sensor from a dead PS3 controller i had laying around... It actually worked flawlessly. Thank you, bro!
I wish I could like this video more than once.
Ripped the sensor wheels out of a shitty 3rd party Switch pro controller, popped them in my horribly drifty XBox Elite controller. Drift is completely GONE.
THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Before anyone else likes this comment I should clarify that the controller is now in pieces. Lmao
It didn't work for very long
@@HBlatz87 😂😂😢
You made it look so easy. I struggled but it was a great tutorial. I cant count how many controllers I've fixed with this
I'm really thankful, this tutorial just saved me a lot of cash buying another controller, i just changed the falty sensor for my old one from xb 360, its working normal now, thanks and congratulations for helping us
Doug Carvlin that’s helpful to know that the old sensor on a 360 controller works as well
Best video ive found on the subject, 4:26 and on explains everything and helped me fix my 360 controller without needing new sticks! The piece shown at 5:31, I realized needs to have the metal at its 12 o' clock point ever so slightly folded/creased over so that its not totally flat. Thats what causes the drift! The piece doesnt go bad, the metal just flattens out. Restore the slight "bump" on the metal and your controller sticks will literally act like brand new, no replacement parts needed, no solder, no nothing!
finally someone with good taste in music for a tutorial
I've bought these sensors as my last attempt to fix my Xbox One controller. With success!! The joystick drift is gone. 🥳 Thanks for this tutorial and the link to the webshop!
Thank you for this, I’m so genuinely happy I was able to fix my controller with this tutorial, I feel like I accomplished something pretty cool.
And just replacing the lateral sensors it got better?

Be very careful when bending back the green cover as the bottom has pins that are soldered into the motherboard.
I watched this tutorial and started taking my controller apart... then realized the wiring was different because it was a Series X controller. Still was able to use the techniques without flipping the board, and was able to clean the existing sensor instead of replacing it. Thank you for posting this.
It’s fine, the sensors are the same regardless of series X/ OG xbox one

I was frustrated after watching a few videos on how to fix controller drift until I got to this one. Thank you for showing the sensor and how to get to it. This was the solution I needed to fix my controller!
Thx master this the problem what im looking for without soldering iron works very well and i dont replace it with a new one i just clean it with alcohol both side and my anolog its working perfectly fine now, life saver old vid but gold. Pro tip watch the full video once over before starting work on your controller lol
The whole video isn't even 10 minutes. You do realize you can skip parts... right? 🤯
Hey man thank you for the tutorial. I did it this evening and got my fairly unused controller back in tip top shape.
Thanks man!
Extremely well done. Non-redundant and complete.
Thank you
My issue is the left stick being unresponsive when pushing it forward, it works in all the other directions, just not forward, which sucks, I can force it to work by holding down (clicking) on the left stick while pushing forward
Is this the sensor not working?
I have a spare controller and would like to know if this fixed it if I do some surgery.
Thanks a lot, this was a very detailed video!
Same problem. Would be great if anyone replies.
Exact same problem. 'Bout to check if sensor replacement works. I will let you know about the results ;)

Perplexion huh?
Nigga what
Hi, I did the same thing without replacing the analog stick sensor wheel.
Fixed one of my analog sticks now the other one is not moving at all
Also I didn’t buy new sensors just replaced them with a different controller that was already broken
TickleMyPickle you all may have shorted the board. Most important thing is to discharge any static electricity in hour body by touching metal

I'll have to give this a try. My controller's vertical sensor of its left stick is pretty bent up. Hopefully this'll fix the stick's input.
Juan G. Did you ever fix it ?
I finally decided to try fixing it and I did it after half an hour and I'm so happy, I've been having to deal with my broken stick for over a year now. Thank u for ur great vids
I can't close the sensor housing
Same I can’t either
That "new sensor" is actually an xbox 360 sensor. If you have an unused controller lying around u can take it apart for the parts
Really?
Thanks!!!!
How's your gaming been ever since

This video is the only one that works! All that blowing and cleaning of the housing in the other videos did nothing for me. I didn't have to change the sensor. I think in most cases, the metal on the XB1 stick sensor undergoes some wear and deforms from the original shape. All i did to resolve the sticky drift on my controller (after trying everything else) was to realign the metal strips on the sensor (5:30 of video) and clean it up. Thanks XQ Gaming!
You know it really helps when you dont change the parts on the wrong side twice and wonder why it doesnt work 🗿
I used a sensor from a never used Xbox s controller(2022) to fix my rig nacon rev x.
The same issue is with the PS4 and PS5 green and orange potentiometers, different hole in the center so won't fit each other..
thank you so much friend
with your class I was able to use the part of a broken xbox 360 that I have, so I managed to get control of xbox one.

The gray part that is used to rotate the analog stick broke off, so I think I'm screwed.
