11 inch vs 12.9 inch iPad Pro: Is Bigger Better?

  • In this video, I compare the new 11-inch iPad Pro with the larger 12.9-inch iPad Pro. The main difference, besides the size, is the addition of the "Liquid Retina XDR" display on the 12.9" model that uses mini-LED technology. This allows for a brighter, more contrasty display, and is especially impressive when viewing HDR content.

A lot of things to consider but at the end of the day here is how I made the decision to go with 11:
    - I have a powerful-enough 2019 MBP 16" and I don't plan to replace my laptop with an iPad anytime soon (I can't, I write code so a laptop is pretty much a must-have)
    - I want a tablet that is actually more like a tablet (sounds weird I know) - portable and easy to hold with one hand
    - I don't want to read an ebook and have to hold it with both hands or on a surface/stand
    - I can see myself holding it more often than using it with a keyboard
    - If I need more space for writing, then I just use it in the landscape mode. Even more space for viewing/watching stuff? Here comes my laptop (docked or not)
    - I don't need the mini-LED as I enjoy watching movies/shows on my 34" monitor more, of course, the display is a lot better on the iPad but the size and the immersive experience matter more to me here
    - I don't travel much nowadays so having both the laptop and the iPad isn't inconvenient at all
    - For the 11, the magic keyboard doesn't "feel" like a must-have
    - Since I have a laptop, I don't need to split the iPad screen for watching videos and writing notes
    ...
All in all, if you already have a decent laptop then getting the 11 makes more sense IMO. Need a larger second display for your laptop? Use the extra money to get a decent external monitor instead.
    ...
If I only had a desktop then the 12 might be the one to go since it'd be my only portable device but I don't...so...hope this helps
EDIT: This might not apply to students, as I do see benefits with the bigger one especially if you plan to take written notes while you open the PowerPoint slides on your laptop in lectures because the desks are usually small (large lecture halls, especially). Having the ability to split-screen between Goodnotes and Slides, in this case, is huge!

Another video smacked out of the ballpark. Useful information for anyone torn between the 11" or 12.9" displays! I personally have been using an iPad Air 2 bought back on Black Friday 2014 and it does everything I need and shows no signs of slowing down just yet! Although I am longing for a larger display, I am still a fan of the Touch ID button and dislike Face ID something fierce. But enough rambling. Thanks as always for your very informative product reviews, Paul! I think I might be splurging on a 11" very soon...

My personal opinion is this. You should ONLY get the 12.9" if you're after a laptop replacement, and maybe also the XDR display. Otherwise, if you only want an iPad Pro to replace your existing/current iPad that's roughly the same size, and don't care about the XDR display, get the 11". Me I fall into this camp. I want an iPad Pro to replace my existing iPad Air 2 and also don't care at all about the XDR display, which is why the 11" is perfect for me. Just make sure that whichever one you get, you get ample storage. Me, I'll be getting either 512GB or 1TB, as my current/existing iPad Air 2 is only 64GB

I bought into the XDR screen hype and purchased the 12.9/2TB/Cellular/magic keyboard. 2 days later, I returned it and switched to a 11/2TB/Cellular/magic-keyboard. The 12.9 is too large, bulky, heavy, while the 11 is significantly more portable, while losing nothing in terms of overall functionality. This is i think the most honest and practical review I’ve watched. I think I’m almost certain (70%) that I’ll be getting the 12.9. See, here in the Philippines, having an apple product is a luxury. And so far, apple has been so reliable because of the updates. I have a MBP 13in (2012) which I’ve upgraded to 16g ram and ssd which works perfectly as my go to for heavier tasks. And an ipad air 2 which has been my daily device for almost everything. Unfortunately, the apple pen is not compatible. But i managed with the help of a keyboard casing.
Having that kind of background, I would like to know your opinion. Should it be a 12.9 2020 or the latest M1? Please help me decide. Hehehe Thanks.

I am a Fashion photog thought the 11" is very fine but switching the type of work to 12.9" seems the ultimate. That is my personal preference. Of course sometimes is a bit inconvenient holding for while but the trade is Amazing!!

Not sure where you got 1450 from. The iPad Pro 11 inch starts at 799 with 128gb

I feel that my 9.7 ipad is too small for split screen. What modelshould i buy? 11 or 12.9 (I will use it for engineering in university.)

The 11 inch isn't that much larger than the 9.7 so I would recommend the 12.9!

      @MrDakti 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@PaulBradfordTech maybe not much larger, but... as a holder of 9.7 "and 10.5" I see a significant difference between them. Only 0.8" difference, but it really can be felt. When I see 9,7" it's look so small now for me. Between 10.5" and 11" there is a slightly smaller difference (0.5") but probably also felt for the user. The difference between 11 "and 12.9" (1.9") is just cosmic for me.

My advise: but both and use the large on at home while caring the small one around when you are out and about

I had the pro and then bought the air because they didn’t have the cellular pro I can tell you the regular 11 inch pro is the best size the iPad Air feels a bit small but the pro is just right for the size like me ex use to say size matters she also like 11 inch and now I’m single 😮‍💨🥺😩

If you chioice ipad 12”, you should think twice. This just IPAD the app is still mobile (not pro). Macbook air more lighter than ipad. This my opinion.
