Previously LED display is so good, but Mini-LED display looks really better, especially when you see in angle (at least from my IPS display perspective). So, the perfect match to me would be a combination: 11" mini-LED iPad. Wow man, these displays are already so amazing, imagine when the micro-LED technology arrives. 🤩️
Let's all be quite honest: If it just wasn't for the 12-inch's XDR Display, must of us *wouldn't have ever even devoted more than 2 calories of thought on it*
Don’t listen to the comment below you, it isn’t coming on the 11” model next year. This isn’t only because this made the 12.9” model sell better, but because of supply constraints that don’t magically disappear after a year. These displays are incredibly difficult to manufacture without any pandemic, now with COVID it makes them crazy hard to make.
I just bought an 11” iPad Pro simply because the 12.9” version was too big for me and my hands. So I guess, for what I use the iPad for, the screen didn’t matter but I definitely understand those that want the new screen because it looks great.
Some of the reviews for this don't make sense. This th-cam.com/users/postUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA works as well as any power strip I've used. Plug in what you need, be sensible about it & keep it movin' The construction is plastic but it's a sturdy piece. It has a single toggle switch & the swivel jacks are useful as well. Plugged in next to Tripp Lite Isobar takes some of these reviews with a pinch of sumthin' - does what it says & functions properly.Had for about a month. Perfect no complaints will update if anything changes.
I had a 12.9 for a year and I could never get used to it. The 11 feels so much better to me, it’s airy and light. Yeah there are compromises but if portability is a priority then it can’t be beat. I wish it had XDR but meh, whatevs.
Yeah I think 12.9 is great if your tablet is always just going to be sitting on your desk when you use it. But if you wanna actually hold your tablet in your hands when you use it, 12.9 is too cumbersome.
Sorry guys, the new song doesn't really do it for me. Think about it this way: the old one had a vocal, bass, drums, instrumentation. This new one has mostly electronic synths which means less stuff to "benchmark", especially because it doesn't have vocals like the first one.
I just got the 12.9 inch version (upgraded from the iPad Air 3), and I love it, but I kind of regret not getting the 11 inch. I use it a lot for notes, but the 11 inch is so much easier to hold in one hand. To be honest, I only got the 12.9 inch one because of the mini-LED, and it is gorgeous, but you sacrifice portability. It’s starting to feel like it’s not quite the trade-off advantage I wanted. But I’m still happy with it. I’m actually starting to use my iPad as my primary device over my 2018 MacBook Pro, and it is more than capable of being my primary driver. Either way, both versions are excellent. This is a beast of a machine, and it is future-proofed for at least 5+ years. Most people will be happy with either one. Both have unique advantages and disadvantages over the other.
I know what you feel. So far I used 10.5". I try to convince myself to 12.9" although I know 11" is more rational choice for me. That is why I prepared a help list: 11" vs 12.9" wins 4:2 in important points for me (and 3:0 in essential points) so decided to get 11". However even now against rational thinking 12.9" is tempting. I hope someday there will be released 11.9" or 12.0" to make an upgrade after 4-5 years. - Weight: 11" (essential) - Comfort of use / mobility: 11" (essential) - Missing blooming effect: 11" (essential) - Price: 11" - Deeper blacks / no grey background: 12.9" - Bigger workspace for music tools: 12.9"
Interesting. I went from 12.9 (first gen) to 10.5 and recently just went back to 12.9 miniLED and I'm feeling pretty good about it. I was really not sure if I should but now that the Magic Keyboard includes a trackpad, I find that I'm much happier with the extra screen real estate. It's kind of changed how I use iPad dramatically in a way that makes me care less about the size hit with the 12.9.
You are not mistaken, the 12.9" is a little bit thicker. As a digital artist, my biggest gripe with the 12.9" is that because of the Mini LED clusters the glass has to be thicker. Sadly it results in (for the first time ever) a small amount of parallax. Which is the amount of space between the point of the pencil and the actual cursor on the screen. Especially important if you are used to painting in Photoshop, Procreate or Paint Studio and prefer to have your brush outline visible as you work. No matter how much you calibrate it, it will always appear slightly off center. So it will be the 11" for me. Also, due to the extra casing that holds the clusters together, the edges of the display has a dark boundary. If my full screen, digital canvas is not 100% bright white... there is something wrong with the world.
thanks for adding this comment, im going through videos comparing the iPads because I use mine for strictly artwork and wanted the bigger screen, this helps narrow my decision and also something to keep in mind on all future purchases! hope you've found a way to get your artwork back to how you prefer !! 💯
I love the screen of the 12.9 but portability is the most important thing for me, I want to be able to just stick it in a bag and edit on the go if needed, maybe watch a video whilst I’m sat in the car waiting for my kids to come out of school, that’s why I went 11”, price also a big factor.
What are your thoughts about the the bigger screen in terms of portability? I am a designer/architect. I'm only concerned about the grip and portability :/
@@afnanomaraalamoudi4606 It’s larger and I notice it more in weight but it’s not as big as you think. It’s still very portable. It’s exactly the size of a sheet of paper 8.5 x 11. 12.9” better for your eyes doing design work than using the 11”. Can’t wait for wwdc iPadOS 15!!!
I appreciate the comparison! I spent a lot of time with the new 12.9 and 11 inch next to each other to really get a feel for each of them. I had a 2018 11 and a 2020 12.9 as well. The new 12.9 is MUCH better when playing video but when you’re not, it’s pretty much the same exact quality as the 11. The size difference is pretty massive too. I went for an 11 inch this time but now that I’m going to be working at the office again I wanted the more portable size. I’m also planning on getting the 14 inch MacBook Pro for home when it’s released. Had I not needed to be as portable or planning on a MacBook, the 12.9 was an awesome choice to do about everything.
12.9” for me. I almost never take my iPad with me anyway and I like the bigger screen for drawing and media consumption. If I were to take my iPad outside more I’d go with the 11”.
I just consume media, watch TH-cam, Netflix, prime movies etc but will be getting the 12.9. Unless budget is an issue it's an absolute no brainer for me. Always get the bigger, more immersive display unless portability is your number one priority. I would wager 90% of Pro users don't even use it as a productivity device. They just want the best tablet experience money can buy and are prepared to pay for it.
@@danielkudo4800 Agree, that is compromise you have to make putting up with the black bars but 16:9 ratio is crap for everything else like just web browsing.
I really love the 12.9 inch user experience! The bigger canvas is definitely serving productivity. I am saving my money to buy the 12.9 inch for university! Hopefully I can get it before university starts 💙💙💪🏻
It's harder to yield the mini LED on even smaller screen. The cost could be even more to develop than on Pro 12.9 like how LG OLED CX 48 inch and 55 inch not much differ in price ...
@@obidean3964 I don't think that's true in this case though. The pixel density is the same, so it is just cutting out a smaller display from the same sheet if you will. That should be easier to hit yields on. Now if the pixels were smaller, I could see your point.
@@HVDynamo No bro, display production doesn't work like that lol. Both iPad Pro screen (11 and 12.9) is cut out from bigger piece typically produced from different line of display fab (factory). And those Mini LED backlighting system is not fully integrated on the display yet btw. It was made by different manufacturers (not by the same display manufacturer, mind you !). Since it's only on bigger 12.9 currently, Apple has specifically ordered the tailored spec for that size like the most optimum amount of LED zones which is 2048 zones etc. Cramming that many concentrated LED on small screen (smaller than TV) is not an easy feat and typically will results in thermal issue which will indirectly affecting the other components. Even though 12.9 vs 11 may seem small numerically but in reality it's way different (y'all know how much bigger the 12.9 iPad Pro right?), still 0.1 inch away from full 2 inches difference. Every inch matters in this case like how typically 15 inch laptop always has more raw power than 13 inch counterpart, even though it's roughly "only" around 2 inches difference. It's for the same reason, thermal handling is always better on larger size. More room for heat to spread out and dissipate through, so can pack in more gut power ... If let's say Apple want to make Mini LED powered 11 inch iPad Pro, the Mini LED backlight panel won't be the same spec as 12.9 version and some areas might have been compromised to make it fit behind an even smaller screen, thus will create quality inconsistency between both iPad Pro and Apple definitely DEFINITELY don't want that. Oh btw pixel density is NOT THE SAME as the physical teeny tiny LEDs behind the screen lol ... Don't get me wrong, I also want the tech to come in the smaller 11 inch Pro as well, it can happen but it won't be very soon. Even if Apple can, I don't think they will, the current positioning of iPad Pro 2021 makes so much more sense since 12.9 version traditionally have been lackluster to justify its existence compared to 11 version. Now that it has Mini LED exclusively, it makes up a compelling selling point as the better multimedia machine and the spacious screen size is cherry on top to complete the cake. My 2 cents ...
Thx for this comparison. Many tech reviewers are just hyping up and giving most of the attention to the 12.9 inch model and basically not giving much attention to the 11 inch model .
Just had a broken display replaced on my 2018 12.9, in the meantime bought the 2021 12.9 and now I have 2 ipad pro’s. I can tell a huge difference with the 2021..love it!
I took back my 11 inch iPad & paid tha difference 4 tha 12.9,i am so in love with it & writing this right now on my 12.9,I haven’t put it down yet, mine is 4 months old now
It's also useful to keep the same song so we can go back and compare to old devices! As long as the microphone setup stays the same, it makes a good comparison.
To my eye, and maybe it's the limitations of watching screen differences on a screen, both displays on the 11 and 12.9 inch iPads are very very good. I went with the 11 inch M1. It's probably future proofed for at least the next 4 years or so. This is my 2nd 11 inch iPad Pro, trading up from the 2018 11 inch. Apple gives 455 dollars trade in value so minus that from the $799 price (I went with 128GB storage, plenty for me) I got the new one for $344. I couldn't pass it up, especially with the M1 chip. I had my previous iPad Pro for a full 2 1/2 years since I got it the day it came out...this one? I could probably last 4 years or so before being tempted by the latest and greatest.
This channel is top notch. I watch a lot of tech youtubers and each have their own personalities and style, but Max and Vadim just take it to the next level for me personally. They do videos on details and things some other techtubers don't mention. Thanks for all the hard work guys! You both deserve all the success imaginable.
honestly, this is one of the low tier "review" channels. rarely focused on value, very often overephasizing to get the best for the most. point is 95% of tablet users won't need the greatest specs and fastest render times and brightest screens. and it is somewhat annoying that each and every time they pull out essentially pointless benchmark results, that in daily consumption usecase scenarios mean little to nothing. but that is just my take and to each their own. cheers
I have had the iPad, IPad Air, and the 2018 12.9 IPad Pro. I have had the IPad Pro for 4 years, and I love it, but I just ordered the 11 inch IPad Pro to replace my IPad Air 3. Don’t let the hype get you, all of the IPads are nice, but the smaller IPad is TRULY what is best for me. I take my Air with me EVERY PLACE. my eyes don’t focus on my phones screen because I’m getting old. I use the IPad 12.9 for watching videos, surfing the net, and drawing plans for project around the house. If your going to use an iPad as a laptop, just get a laptop. In the long run it will be much cheaper.
@@GaryBeary Because the backlight is made out of mini LEDs dude... Just like modern TVs that still use LCD are called "LED LCD" or "QLED". Both are simply the backlight. And so it MiniLED. And no, Apple didn't lied. Apple don't even use the term "MiniLED" at all. They call it Super Retina XDR. It is a MiniLED display but they never call it that way.
No need to be sorry. Mini-led offers same (or very near) contrast levels as OLED but without any of the disadvantages of OLED. It also has better brightness levels than OLED. latest high ends TVs are moving towards mini-led
i reallly like the size of the 12.9 but when i look at it i see it more as a laptop replacement rather than portable. when i see the 11 i think portability.
I use to have a 12.9 and went to the 11. I missed the 12.9. Going to buy the new 12.9. I gave my daughter the 11 inch. I remember when I had the 12. Nine in screen all my photos or so much better larger scale is nicer. This is just how I feel, do what you want to do.
The new song has almost no melody which makes the speaker comparison very hard. Ideal would be some piano music with some bass guitar and a drumset. So you can hear bass, mids and hight.
If you’re someone who needs an all in one device, I would go with the 12.9 inch model. If you’re someone who must or already own a laptop then the 11 inch seems much more reasonable, especially for $300 less
I agree with this - I think most buyers are Apple folks that have an M1 Air (like me) and maybe an iMac or Mac Mini so its a stretch but I still want it. Ugh.
@@DDL-n2u Yea I see what you mean, perhaps there is a way you can make something like an Ipad fit in your daily routine. I personally use my Ipad for notes and my m1 macbook air for word documents. Multitasking is difficult with only one device, but two definitely helps
A lot of people are quite angry with the new release since they just bought the 2020 for a short time. So I really doubt a new version will be released next year
iPad Pros are simply the best…I have all 5 generations maxed out! Only the 2. in its smaller 10.5 inch design. It is better looking than the 11 inch in my opinion! The bigger size on the other gens is better for me…and: They hold well…even the 1. gen is running smooth after all these years! Incredible! The 5. gen is gorgeous!
I use My iPad is at home 95% of the time so weight and portability is a non issue with me. This is precisely why I went with the 12.9” Pro model and can take full advantage of that big beautiful screen!
Would be an interesting comparison. Still think the new iPad is leagues above it tho. Performance wise it’ll still probably significantly less powerful than the 2018 iPad Pro.
@@MrAlsPals Not wanting to hate, but until you can run "real" software on the Ipad, people should stop praising so much. Imagine how many of those that buy Ipad are really doing video editing at any level other than to upload to TikTok? Apple gives you the base Macbook Air 7 gpu cores when you can run full software and gives the best CPU to the Ipad where you are till this day runing limited software. I"m really interested in the new Ipad, but i"m holding until i can do more with it.
@@ceegibbie too small? Bruh…people still buying ipad mini for their use. Some people prefer something you can hold securely with one hand. 11inch is exactly what they need.
Until the software side get updated at wwdc there will not be a noticable differenc in 8 gb vs 16 gb as all the ipad apps currently available use way less ram.
@@Dyaan14.1 I just can tell that 4GB is terrible though. Sometimes on my iPad I use an App, open another for 10 seconds and the first one is already closed.
@@daniel_960_ yes 4 gb is not good enough i know that…but as u can see on the iphone 12 pro…6 gb ram is able to open up most apps on the background in many tests on youtube…so 8 gb would technically be enough.
I am in Canada, I received my iPad Pro 2021 11 inch model (512GB) on Tuesday with the magic keyboard and so far I absolutely love it. (I have the 2020 MacBook Air as well) Using it with the magic keyboard is amazing (can use it on my lap) and also putting it in my UAG case and using it as a true iPad works great as well. No regrets, super light and portable and will be using it for years to come. The XDR display would have been nice to have but I do not watch that much content where it would make a difference to me.
Finally stress tests - looks like there definitely is thermal throttling... but even with that the lowest score of iPad Pro 11" is basically better than in case of any other tablets in the market.
I was going to get the 12.9 to watch movies… but I always hold the iPad in one hand, and that doesn’t seem possible with the large iPad. So will stick with the smaller one.
Great comparison video. I opted for the 12.9 and came from a 10.5 2017. I like the larger screen because I use split screen and slide over in my daily work flow and I’m a hobbiest photographer. I use it al lot in my truck as well. The larger size for me hasn’t been an issue and I like the extra screen space. I wouldn’t have it without the Magic Keyboard.
Same. I went from iPad pro 10.5 to this 12.9". Great screen and speakers. But poor portability. Will be looking at getting iPad pro 11" as a replacement.
This what I have been waiting for. Should I spend the extra money and get the 12.9 or stick to the 11 inch. I Photo edit, light video edit, and watch media.
For those use cases the XDR screen is unbelievable in person. It’s really amazing. Also a nice canvas for Lightroom and luma fusion. But it’s quite big in the hand
Went with the new 11" iPad Pro and just love it! Perfect size for me! Love how I can plug it into my 27" display easily so I can edit photos on a large screen but still have the power of the M1 SoC and use the Apple Pencil 2! Also love the new sound test song!
@@muhammadharis2205 I am actually not 100% sure about that one. Apple’s site doesn’t say anything about HDR support, but when I’m playing HDR content on TH-cam it does say it’s HDR and at least to me the image quality is very good. GSMArena’s site also says that the 11” iPad Pro is capable of displaying HDR10 content, so I would assume that it can. Mostly just not quite as well as the mini-LED display on the 12.9” iPad Pro.
@@muhammadharis2205 even iPad 12.9 doesn't play true hdr content since i saw huge difference of watching true hdr from Netflix or generally watching it after downloading it
I certainly agree with your assessment and really like your channel. I have had both sizes in the past and for me the weight of the 12.9” is a major factor. Although I Like the screen size, especially when I was viewing PDF reports that I would need to review, I really recommend the 11” for most people. I do think side by side comparisons don't always help in decision making. If you would just look at each one separately and judge each device on its own merit you can decide whether you like what you see. When you are looking side by side you become more critical of the differences which might not have a big effect in your daily use. I am really looking forward to your review of the 8 vs 16 gigs or ram.
have to admit that it really was an excellent review. You have sighted real scenarios that consumers are interested, not focused on the spec difference. Good job..now im leaning on to the 11"
One of the things you didnt mention is the Utility of scientific research and Note taking of the 12.9, it is miles ahead better for reading and writing on Scientific pdf....at least for me, also multitasking while reading a pdf and taking notes way better in the 12.9
I have the 12.9 M1 because the iPad is my only computer. I just couldn’t do enough, even productivity wise on the 11 inch. I use Apple’s Pages and Keynote apps a lot and it gets frustrating on a screen that’s too small. I really do love the 11 inch but the 12.9 is a lot more luxurious.
I may be wrong, but I believe that you are definitely showing a personal bias towards the 11" iPad Pro. I have owned several smaller iPads in the past but after purchasing the 1st generation 12.9 iPad Pro I have never looked back. The size and weight has not been an issue at any time for me, since I use a Apple Leather Smart Cover the thickness has a minimal effect and also acts as a stand. Now for the main reason I prefer the 12.9 iPad Pro is that I am a 79 year old with waining eyesight and the larger text is a must. I could use my MacBook Pro, but the iPad Pro is so much more convenient, and portable.
11" is better because you can easily tear it off the magic keyboard to read a magazine or article in one hand or even just browse the web. With the 12.9", you need two hands to even hold it comfortably. If they were both super lightweight, it maybe would be a different story.
This will make me switch to the 12“ mode. The 11“ is just not big enough for me to use it over my phone. I oft end up using my iPhone instead. The big one is big enough to justify having an additional device. Especially after I replaced my MacBook with a Mac Mini it will be my new device when I want to be mobile and productive.
I'm loving my 11" M1 Macbook. The promised 9-11 hours of working and watching TH-cam seems be fairly accurate. I watched 3-5 hours of youtube while working on my Macbook Pro today, and the M1 11" iPad was at 55% battery, but the 2018 12.9" (with keyboard, which drains some power) would have been at 20%. I love my 11", and if/when Apple updates the 11" to the XDR display, they'll have another purchase from me.
If the 11 inch had the display of the larger that would pretty much be a done deal for me. The display matters to me, I know people say it looks really good and all that sure but it's not XDR no matter what at the end of the day it is different and that matters to me but if they did do the better display on the smaller ipad pro that would be awesome.
I purchased the 11" because I don't do video editing or illustration. I just watch tv, play solitaire and web brose. I am upgrading from the First generation Ipad so the speed will be amazing to me. (One suprise at a time is all my heart can take.} My only hope is that Apple still puts the lastablity that they did with thier first generation Ipads.
I purchased the 12.9! I do drawing, graphic design, photo and video editing, and constantly watch videos and movies in the dark so it’s a simple decision for my lifestyle! Portability and heaviness also aren’t a big issue for me because when I’m sketching or editing I have my iPad on a stand, and I always carry a big backpack if I’m going out places (girl’s got a lot to take with her anyway). I mostly draw irl on A4 sizes and up so I think sketching on a smaller size screen would really throw off my arm haha
You can set up an appointment to visit an Apple Store through the website or app. Just choose a time slot. Keep in mind that appointment availability will vary by location.
I had the 11 for over a year absolutely loved everything about it. I just purchased the 12.9 today and it’s absolutely stunning as well. I do see it taking awhile to get used to because of the size.
Despite the little flaws of the mini led, the 11 inch users all seem to wish it’s on the 11 inch too so that’s the conclusion: mini led is better. So it’s all come down to the size and ur budge
Great comparison Max - love the fact that you’re poking holes in the blooming “problem” that some seem to suggest is so bad as to make the 12.9” miniLED screen unusable. I have zero issues with everyday use on my new 12.9” - it’s my daily driver.
@@jessicatriana I only noticed them initially, when I saw people commenting on them. I spend a good 12-ish hours a day on the iPad Pro, for both work and after-work entertainment, so I’m looking at the screen all the time, but there are literally zero times when the focus is on the very edge of the screen. In the same way you don’t drive a car by only looking through the edge of the windshield, you don’t use an iPad or any other device by looking at the edge of the screen.
@@jessicatriana Absolutely - happy to help. I’m sure you’ll love it if you get one. I’ve used my former 2018 iPad Pro 12.9” for the past couple of years as my daily driver and can’t see going back to a traditional laptop.
@@jessicatriana I upgraded mostly because I was getting less than a days worth of battery out of the 2018, and did notice ram issues mainly with Safari tabs reloading. And my mother in law has been pining after my iPad Pro, so she gets what she wants and I get the 2021 model. I think you’ll be blown away by the bigger screen, but it is a lot to hold. I have been ok with it because I like having the laptop sized screen. And it’s fantastic for watching videos / movies.
@@JMacGyver1 I see the 12.9" one as more like an i(pad)OS laptop with a detachable keyboard than a tablet that can be a laptop if you need it to (the 11"). Would you say that is a fair comment?
I wish they would offer more RAM in the 11 inch version as well. Even being productive as I am, That 12.9 is just too big for me to want to haul it around everywhere. I may as well get a MacBook if I’m going to do something like that! I have the 12.9 inch version and I regret it so much lol
It’s barely a difference in weight. Just shy of 1/2 a pound. If you get the gen 6 keyboard it’s not noticeable with when compared to the gen 3/4 on the 11” iPad Pro. I tested them as stated above. If you do split screen the 12.9 is much better.
hey Max, I watched soo many videos now because for me its really 50/50 which size to get.. both have their benefits and disadvantages but you made my decision easier, going for the 11" cuz I want an ipad feeling and not an almost laptop feeling ! If I do heavy editing I go to my MBP. editing on a MBP is just soo much faster
I would love to have the Min LCD on the 11” but for me it is definitely not worth getting 12.9 iPad Pro. I started using my 9.7 128 GB iPad Pro in 2016 and decided to add a second iPad Pro the 12.9 in 2018 and I didn’t like it all, it was just too cumbersome and clumsy so I returned it and got the 11” which works perfectly for me. It’s getting time to upgrade this old 2016 iPad Pro so I will be replacing it with the new 11” 256GB iPad Pro. The 11” just works better for me❗️
Mini led blooming is not a deal breaker it only visible is extreme situation and rare cases But man the contrast ratio, colors, and peak 1600 nits viewing angle in HDR and Dolby vision is just nuts Any day i choose MINILED over LCD
I'd wait for WWDC, because FinalCut for iPad might be announced, which could be important for some of the audience here. And XDR could be a huge advantage for those who shoot HDR on the iPhone. Or just wait for the 11" XDR version.
Why not go with M1 Mac or an upcoming Mac with a mini LED display? It'll be a no-brainer choice, that way you able to enjoy both worlds: iPad apps as well as Mac apps.
The best way I can tell the difference between the screens are placing my iPhone 12 Mini with an OLED display next to my iPhone 6s. Looks exactly the same when comparing these iPads.
I’m going for the 12.9” regardless of how heavy it is and regardless of the portability factor of the 11”. I was at Apple and watched the same exact video simultaneously on both of them side by side and the 12.9” easily beats the 11”. The form factor of the 11” is way better than the 12.9” but for my needs the 12.9” works. I couldn’t tell the difference between the quality of the video between the two iPads, but the bigger screen for watching a video seemed the better option. I don’t plan on taking my iPad out of the house since I plan to use it at home mostly, so that also made it easy to go with the 12.9”, but I wouldn’t find it to be an issue if I took it with me to a coffee shop or something
Are we getting a battery comparison? That's one of the most important things for me... Also, it might be because we are watching a video of a video, but the Mini LED vs LCD bit felt like you were overhyping it so hard for what looks literally identical...
I really wanted to see a comparison between the two sizes. I own the 12.9. I do Lightroom and LumaFusion editing along with work/office tasks. It’s great, but… it is big on the desk next to a laptop. It is heavy and wobbly on my lap. And the screen sometimes feels like it is too much in my face while on my lap. I wanted to shift to the 11” because it goes with me everywhere for everything. And I feel I could still do great photo and video editing, and even typing, on the smaller tablet.
For myself, I'd probably go with either, the iPad Air 4, or the 11" pro, because I currently have an iPad Air 2, and I think it's the perfect size for me, so I wouldn't want to go much larger. With that said: I primarily use the iPad as a consumption device, but not serious consumption. Also, I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max, with an OLED which is great for movies, however, because of the cost of the 12.9", it would really be a toss up between either getting an iPad around the size of my current one, or just spending the money and buying an OLED TV since that's what I would prefer for Movies and TV. With that said, I'm not against the 12.9 inch iPad Pro, I'm just not sure it would be the best value for my intended use.
If the 11 inch iPad pro would have a mini led display it would be a no brainer which iPad to buy, i would chose the 11 inch iPad. But at the moment the bigger version gives you more for the bucks.
I really waned the 11 inch. I have always had that size but I could not resist my curiosity for the xdr !!! So I ordered the 12.9... I’m still wondering if I should change to 11 inch. Did I make a good choice ? Does xdr top the portability ?
@@GabeMota01 Yeah. Same. Silver and I had to go for the TB , almost got the 2TB but I figured 1 would be more than enough… And yeah I do worry about the weight , but I mostly have it on a stand instead of holding and walking around with it in hand.. but still.. if and when Apple makes the 11 inch with xdr I figure I could trade it in.. But yeah.. I’m sure it will be amazing.
I’ve been using the pro since the og 2015. Since then I upgraded to the 2017 and now the 2021. For me it ain’t pro if it ain’t 12.9. The huge screen is so glorious and I even wish it were bigger. It’s the best device for drawing and I use it exclusively for drawing since my laptop is better in everything else.
As always, great comparison. As someone who travels a lot, I prefer the 11” ipad pro. I currently use the 2018 11” ipad pro which i still love. I would have upgraded if the 11” got the mini LED screen since I do edit video and plan to edit HDR video more... but i may wait until the 11” gets the mini LED screen perhaps next year? IF Apple released an iPad mini Pro with the flat edged design, I would think about getting the mini iPad for when I travel and the 12.9” ipad Pro for at home use. But i don’t think that will happen.
Nothing can be better than this review. Max Tech leading in comparison game 📱 now everything is cleared that more than 80% required on 11” & all purposes can be solved smoothly. I think no other video from any other is required to watch after this. Keep rocking Max Tech 💪🏽
Judging by apple previous patterns the mini led will be on the next model. I’m gonna guess they’ll release the next gen iPad Pro in 2023, with the M1X or M2 Chip
The mini doesn’t have pro-motion. The 11 pro doesn’t have the mini LED. Apple is really making it difficult to choose the smaller devices with their lack of features. Give us the options damn it.

11 inch is so much better for a tablet. 12.9 inches is laptop territory
yeah thats why I went with the m1 11 and I love it
I also had the 12.9 inch found it was a bit too big. Portability of the 11 inch perfect size.
- Weight: 11" (essential)
- Comfort of use / mobility: 11" (essential)
- Missing blooming effect: 11" (essential)
- Price: 11"
- Deeper blacks / no grey background: 12.9"
- Bigger workspace for music tools: 12.9"
You're an idiot if you think a tablet can replace a laptop. Mini-LED is indeed a game changer though and I hope it comes to the Mac.
@@MrDakti thats literally how I was thinking when I bought my m1 11 inch lol
Interesting. I went from 12.9 (first gen) to 10.5 and recently just went back to 12.9 miniLED and I'm feeling pretty good about it. I was really not sure if I should but now that the Magic Keyboard includes a trackpad, I find that I'm much happier with the extra screen real estate. It's kind of changed how I use iPad dramatically in a way that makes me care less about the size hit with the 12.9.
Same dude! I upgraded from an Air 3 to the 12.9 to really get an upgrade 😄
That is such a useful comment - thank you!
thanks for adding this comment, im going through videos comparing the iPads because I use mine for strictly artwork and wanted the bigger screen, this helps narrow my decision and also something to keep in mind on all future purchases! hope you've found a way to get your artwork back to how you prefer !! 💯

Hi, Are you facing any blooming issues in the dark environment?
For most photos would the screen make a difference? Or is it mostly for video that it makes a difference?
@@ngould2420 basically nick tryna say he bought and will buy everything apple has to offer.

Thanks brother. It really helps!
So, I'll gain more muscle over time with the 12.9? Hmmmm..

I would have paid extra if they put mini led into the 11"
It's harder to yield the mini LED on even smaller screen. The cost could be even more to develop than on Pro 12.9 like how LG OLED CX 48 inch and 55 inch not much differ in price ...
Next Year it will
@@obidean3964 I don't think that's true in this case though.
Ipad pro max
Thx for this comparison. Many tech reviewers are just hyping up and giving most of the attention to the 12.9 inch model and basically not giving much attention to the 11 inch model .
Because there is pretty much nothing to say about as besides from M1 chip there is almost no change so thats pretty logical

These comparisons are just so high quality all the time! Going for the 11" and magic keyboard! 😉

"if you want an LCD or MiniLED"
Sorry but MiniLED is in fact also just an LCD.
Lots of people still mistake those concepts and make it seem like they are 'one or the other".
So why isn’t it called MiniLCD? Did Apple lied?
@@GaryBeary
The LCD also called LED

@@muhammadharis2205 even iPad 12.9 doesn't play true hdr content since i saw huge difference of watching true hdr from Netflix or generally watching it after downloading it
Does 11 inch has pwm?
I certainly agree with your assessment and really like your channel. I have had both sizes in the past and for me the weight of the 12.9” is a major factor. Although I Like the screen size, especially when I was viewing PDF reports that I would need to review, I really recommend the 11” for most people. I do think side by side comparisons don't always help in decision making. If you would just look at each one separately and judge each device on its own merit you can decide whether you like what you see. When you are looking side by side you become more critical of the differences which might not have a big effect in your daily use. I am really looking forward to your review of the 8 vs 16 gigs or ram.
That’s a good way of thinking about it. Currently deciding which one is best for my use case
@Sean Irick in normal use both screens look the same
have to admit that it really was an excellent review. You have sighted real scenarios that consumers are interested, not focused on the spec difference. Good job..now im leaning on to the 11"
One of the things you didnt mention is the Utility of scientific research and Note taking of the 12.9, it is miles ahead better for reading and writing on Scientific pdf....at least for me, also multitasking while reading a pdf and taking notes way better in the 12.9
12.9 inch had a deeper base than the 11, I agree
I felt like that when I bought the iPad mini 5
So I sold it.
As someone who had the 10.5 and the now the 2018 12.9", the weight difference is REALLY noticeable.
Whats your insta handle ? Wanted to ask few doubts, even am planning to purchase 12.9
What do girls carry?
When you want to go to the store to compare the weight of both iPads in the hand but the stores are closed :(
You could just order both and return the one which you find less comfortable.
@@Tom_Stevens617 That's some big money moves
@@nortongreeen What do you mean?
You can set up an appointment to visit an Apple Store through the website or app. Just choose a time slot. Keep in mind that appointment availability will vary by location.
The comparison I’ve been waiting for! Thank you!

I had the 11 for over a year absolutely loved everything about it. I just purchased the 12.9 today and it’s absolutely stunning as well. I do see it taking awhile to get used to because of the size.
I’m coming from similar background. Had the 10.5 for 2 years and just purchased the 12.9. Thought it might be too big but I don’t find it a big deal
Is the 12.9 too big to comfortably use on your lap?
@@Jay-kc1ql everyone has different body maybe you can compare if you have similar body
@@JMacGyver1 makes sense, thanks for the feedback! :)
Mini-LED is a game changer.
I wish this channel reach more than 1 million subscribers.
Wish? It's gonna happen in the next year.
I wish they would offer more RAM in the 11 inch version as well. Even being productive as I am, That 12.9 is just too big for me to want to haul it around everywhere. I may as well get a MacBook if I’m going to do something like that! I have the 12.9 inch version and I regret it so much lol
Haha never thought of the 12.9 being to “heavy” just ordered mine today here in Canada ! Should be here by June 3rd Woop woop 🙌
It’s barely a difference in weight. Just shy of 1/2 a pound. If you get the gen 6 keyboard it’s not noticeable with when compared to the gen 3/4 on the 11” iPad Pro. I tested them as stated above. If you do split screen the 12.9 is much better.
This video is so perfect. You guys are killing it! I am willing to wait for an 11 inch with HDR.
hey Max, I watched soo many videos now because for me its really 50/50 which size to get.. both have their benefits and disadvantages but you made my decision easier, going for the 11" cuz I want an ipad feeling and not an almost laptop feeling !
The 11” just works better for me❗️
Mini led blooming is not a deal breaker it only visible is extreme situation and rare cases
But man the contrast ratio, colors, and peak 1600 nits viewing angle in HDR and Dolby vision is just nuts
Any day i choose MINILED over LCD
I'd wait for WWDC, because FinalCut for iPad might be announced, which could be important for some of the audience here. And XDR could be a huge advantage for those who shoot HDR on the iPhone. Or just wait for the 11" XDR version.
If u are studying maths and biologie and need the split screen, the 12#9 ist much better
Why not go with M1 Mac or an upcoming Mac with a mini LED display? It'll be a no-brainer choice, that way you able to enjoy both worlds: iPad apps as well as Mac apps.
@@SwapnilRupanwar Bruh, u need to write on the ipad, because its much easier with the apple pencil.
Video editing is the biggest selling point, to me, for picking the 12.9.
Are we getting a battery comparison? That's one of the most important things for me...
Also, it might be because we are watching a video of a video, but the Mini LED vs LCD bit felt like you were overhyping it so hard for what looks literally identical...
Every screen is going to look like your screen that you’re watching on. The difference is visible in person
I went with the 12.9 inch model because I need a bigger display for split view mode.
That’s why i got the 2018 12.9. Mainly for the benefit toward multitasking and just more room to work with.
Same
I really wanted to see a comparison between the two sizes.
It really is hard to choose between these two great iPads. Great video, and thanks for sharing.
Good luck! The problem is the weight. It starts to feel heavy real fast.
Never had an iPad before and went all out. Silver 12.9 inch 1TB without 5G. I feel like 5G is just a gimmick. Totally worth it so don’t worry.
Within few months they will confirm the release date for the 11” Pro with XDR, you guessed it right!
@@dopemind8160 turns out not. Hindsight 😅

Keep rocking Max Tech 💪🏽
The honey part is mindblowing for an IPS panel.
The 12.9” is more like a laptop replacement option whereas the 11” is more like a tablet that can be a “computer” for most people.
Great video! I was honestly going for the 11’ but the full size keyboard is what sold me. I can just about use this guy as a laptop replacement.
Any thoughts on when Apple will add mini LED to the 11" model?
Judging by apple previous patterns the mini led will be on the next model. I’m gonna guess they’ll release the next gen iPad Pro in 2023, with the M1X or M2 Chip
The mini doesn’t have pro-motion. The 11 pro doesn’t have the mini LED. Apple is really making it difficult to choose the smaller devices with their lack of features. Give us the options damn it.
