At the end the most important question is how you use your iPad. If you know you will use the iPad most of the time on the desk, then 12.9“ is the way to go but if you love holding your iPad while using it, the 11“ is the best size.

I use my current iPad 8 on the desk on holding, I want an M1 chip and a laptop/tablet. I also need to replace this iPad because the charging port is broken and i have to apply push into the charging port. This will bust the cord within a week, so I feel the need to uograde. I also want something good to draw on, aswell as gaming/videos. (This iPad also only has 32GB which is trash and doesn’t fit my usage at all.)

I used to have an older 12.9 iPad Pro 2017 and even without the bezels, 12.9 is just way to big for a portable device imo.
I thought drawing would be more comfortable on a bigger screen, but it feels a lot nicer to actually be able to comfortably hold your iPad while drawing, especially since I love drawing while laying on my bed rather than sitting at a desk.

For me, a simple way to choose between the two is deciding if the iPad will be your laptop replacement/main device or a secondary device. As a secondary device, the 11 inch is great since you have other devices that are larger in size. But the 13 inch is good for those who will only use the iPad as their laptop and as their only device.

12.9 is amazing for my study workflow as I can use it as a laptop at uni, as a second display at home, and as a notebook for writing notes and pdf viewing (I found 11 was too small for me, and the 12.9 felt like a full A4 notebook). I love a generous display

@@captainbottles Pretty good, between classes I hold it like I'm carrying a notebook, especially when it's in its folio cover. I generally prefer to use a backpack for uni so it's akin to taking a laptop with me when it's attached to the magic keyboard. Otherwise I carry it in a shoulder bag (feminine) when I just want to bring the iPad and nothing else major.
On its own the 12.9 inch isn't heavy but I must stress that when it's with the magic keyboard it actually adds quite a bit of weight (hence why I prefer a backpack). I haven't held the 11 inch so I can't compare

I have a 15inch mbp and actually, I rarely bring it outside because of its size. So I just want my new iPad to be..you know, portable, that's the original intention for the iPad to be designed. I think the bigger ipad is designed for the special groups who edit photos or students of fine arts. I really don't want someone who looks at me when I drag this big food tray out of my bag, which makes me feel tired. You may say it's just... a size of A4 paper. But you know, that's how I thought at the beginning when I bought mbp, it's just bigger, the bigger the better right?

I think Fernando and Saran’s points are right on the money. I wasn’t looking to fully replace my laptop as there are some tasks that just work better on macOS. That said, I wanted significantly more portability for taking it out and about or on trips without feeling burdened by it. That swayed my decision to go with the 11. As I do a lot of work with photo editing, I was concerned about not having the “top of the line” display at first, but honestly I’m pretty blown away at how good this 11 inch one looks. It is still very clearly a premium display. Very happy with it!

I prefer the 12.9 inch IPAD Pro mainly for the eyes when viewing. Being 74 years old now, my eyes are still good, but I like to view computer screens which are larger (less strain on eyes). I know I can tie the IPAD Pro to my 2nd Ext 40 inch LCD TV Screen via HDMI, but still also prefer the larger IPAD screen when not at home.
Not worried about physical size or weight if I need to carry the device around.
With all that said above, everyone will have their own preference, so what ever fits your boat, pick that one you like.
    Take care.

I have been going back and forth between the 11inch and 12.9 inch all week. However the point was made during this video “as close to a laptop replacement.” This is what I was looking for when moving to the iPad, a laptop replacement. I use the 12.9 inch now as my primary work computer. When I would use the 11inch, the device did more than fine when going through my workflow. But what I would notice, was that not all apps I use are formatted exactly for 11inch’ s, also when typing I like that word replacement shows up on the screen and on the 12.9 compared to 11inch the replacement shortcut fits just right on screen on the 12.9. Also, 12.9 is very close to the screen size I am use to on my previous laptop and so using the 12.9 inch iPad Pro is more closer to the laptop replacement I was wanting.
Don’t get me wrong, performance between the two machines are spot on the same, but the laptop experience is much closer on the 12.9. Also, the iPad being 12.9 makes it less likely that I would have to hook up my iPad to an external monitor for certain work tasks. 12.9 in my opinion is the way to go if you are looking for the iPad to replace your laptop.

one more thought as I think over the decision... depending on what you use it for, the larger screen may be better for you- for example, the software I use for my business, if I am on the 12.9 I can enter all the data without scrolling... but on the 11", I have to scroll down to see it all- which knocks you out of the selection tool (the thingy that lets you choose the month you want to enter for example).. not only super annoying but when you are in a fast paced business, it's a rhythm killer. so for me it's coming down to the fact that I prefer the aspect ratio, look of, and price of, the 11".. but the 12.9" is better suited for my work. ugh. but thank you guys for making this video, some good points to consider.

  • @rhys-griffiths
    @rhys-griffiths 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

I have to say 11" inch iPad Pro all the way. Its great for reading as its about the same size as most best seller book titles (works perfectly with the smart cover with keyboard but not the magic cover as you can't flip the magic cover all the way around). Excellent note taking in meetings and classes with the GoodNotes app, perfect size for carrying around on transport. Watch tv and movies at night and fits well into most smaller bags.
Unless you do artwork where a 12" might be better, you may as well get a 13" laptop. If you go any larger than the 11" the magic keyboard might be good for those who want a 12" and combine art with a conventional typing and get better value for money.

I would love to know how the aspect ratio with respect to video affects people’s preferences. I noticed that with some content, it looks like black bars are taking up a lot of the screen. It seems a bit jarring and distracting. Does anyone prefer the 11 inch for that reason? On the other hand in Alex’s section here, he showed a clip of video running where the bars are small. So I am guessing it depends what you’re watching. Love to know people’s thoughts on this as I wanted the 12.9 for that comfortably sized Magic Keyboard but I also want to really enjoy watching video content without feeling distracted.

Why worry about the size of the 12.9” iPad Pro if you can get a complentary iPad mini? It’s only about $600 base. The bigger model is also good cause iOS 16 will basically make iPadOS closer to macOS so its really a replacement.

My question stems from an photo editor's point of view: May one *benefit* from Apple's Mini-LED display for the M1 iPad Pro 12.9' during post-processing (in Photoshop Lightroom)? Or will one only get to witness the "glory" brightness of 1000 nits and beyond *only* when *viewing* HDR content? I've been told that Apple's new XDR projects at around 500/ 600 nits during normal usage. Do you notice any micro-contrast detail improvements when editing on the 12.9' mini-LED vs the normal 11'? Please advise, and thank you in advance.

And iPad 11 is too small when it comes to taking notes etc, So 12.9 with keyboard will fit you perfect if you are a student. And when you are at home you can still use iPad 12.9 as a extra screen with MacBook pro 16. and if you use monitor that Even better. Then you have 3 screens :)
