    I wanted to buy one for... well, everything: university, note taking, learning and watching netflix at home, playing etc. And I couldnt decide between them either.
    But my first impression - which is very important - was that the 12.9" is just too big. Im a big guy, but still, it wasnt comfortable to hold. So I ordered the 11" model.
    But I had second thoughts. I went back to the store, and after some time I realized I can get to used to the bigger one too. Especially when I used it in split screen mode - it was beautiful.
    FYI Ive never had an apple device before, I worked hard to have some cash, and wanted the best...
    I read all the reddit pages, watched every youtube video about this, even asked Samuel too, and I realized that most of youtubers recommend the 12.9 inch for note taking and productivity.
    But I thought I'd wait, try out the 11 inch in a daily basis and if i dont like it, i can send it back.
    Now, after a week of using the smaller one, I could say, the 11" is the perfect size for me. I can taking notes easily, reading, watching netflix, and the split screen is good too.
    I bought a logitech folio touch keyboard case, cuz I wanted to protect my one and only luxury device at any cost, and the portability is still amazing with it (its a bit heavy but not as much as the 12.9 would be with a similar case).
    So im happy with my decision, I didnt regret it at all, and u know, I think you should listen to your first impression.
    EDIT
    My experience after using it a month: the uni went full online so i use my windows laptop (which is a must!!!) to log in teams and join to online classes, so I have full screensize to take notes (and our teachers upload the ppt before the classes and sometimes even the whole lecture with voice and everything, or let us to record it) and do stuff. Its amazing, guys

    I returned the 11’ for the 12.9’ iPad. I didn’t feel like the 11’ was a big upgrade from the 10.5’ iPad that I had. People keep mentioning the 12.9’ is heavy. Come on, it’s not that much heavier than the 11’. I have an iMac, no laptop, so the 12.9’ works as a laptop as well. I love having extra screen space to write on.

    I bought the 12.9, and I regret it. It's too big for most things. Especially note taking and reading. I recommend 11 inch for most people. If you need a screen that is 13 inches, you probably also need a laptop.

    • @ang4987
      @ang4987 4 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      It's the same size as a piece of paper though? If you think the iPad pro 12.9 is too big then wouldn't you also think it's hard to write on a standard sized piece of paper? I just recently bought the 12.9 and have not received it yet but I did get the case delivered and its really not as uncomfortably big as people make it out to be (Im a 5'4 girl btw with small hands). Im planning on using it for digital art however

    • @wiilillad
      @wiilillad 4 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      It's quite heavy. If you want to use it for reading or media consumption, it is extremely tiring to handle. If I hold it for more than an hour, my wrists begin to hurt. It's really only practical to use if it's support on some surface like a table or desk. Therefore, I wouldn't really consider it to be very mobile. If you want to use it for note taking in meetings or class rooms, it's very heavy to carry around. It's almost the same weight as a laptop.

    I personally went for the 11” model instead of the 12.9” model because I’m a college student and portability is my main concern. I already have a 15.6” Lenovo Yoga laptop at home so I don’t need a macbook-like iPad to carry around. I’m only 4’10” so carrying around a 12.9” tablet would feel too big for me. I have the Logitech Folio Touch case on it and I honestly like the size of the 11”. I’m happy with it!

    11.9 would be the sweet spot for multitasking and portability. But if you use the iPad as a whiteboard for taking notes and drawing screen size does not matter as your digital canvas can be as large as you like and you can pan and zoom extremely fast while working on details.

    As a student who has begun using ipad a year ago, I would definitely say how important screen size is to notetaking. The reason why I upgrade from ipad air to ipad pro 11inch was because of the screen size and the button (which irritates me because my palm clicked on it when Im doing notes vertically). Although you may think 0.5inch do not make any difference, I definitely feel much difference. Ill definitely go for 12.9 if I could but... since Im on budget 11 inch will be a better optiom for me. The 11 works for me because I’m someone who literally opens my iPad everywhere, like carrying it around and watching a video on it while walking (yes, i know thats not good but lol), and carrying around the 12.9 is simply too heavy. However, as a student, I definitely feel the frustration of the smaller space in split screen, but that’s something I’m willing to sacrifice as I’m not as detailed with my notes. HOWEVER, I would recommend anyone who’s getting the 11 inch to get the cellular version. Since it is so portable, sometimes I leave my phone at home and only bring my iPad!

      And this is cruel?

The OP is essentially accusing Apple of deliberately deciding to not to create a product that is impossible to engineer in order to make buyers have to choose between two screen sizes? It's called being entitled. If that's what they desire then they should buy from Samsung and Oppo who are trying to address the portability vs screen size issues with folding and rolling phones, both that introduce issues Apple is mostly not willing to deal with.

    I have a 12.9 iPad pro 2020.
    I did have the 11 inch pro 2018 and loved it. The cost was a major factor for me at the time, so went for the smaller screen. The portability was fantastic but split screen was limiting. My teenage daughter now uses it. She uses it mainly for Procreate, and it is perfect for this. I found that I couldn't comfortably handwrite my notes and have the text book open at the same time (I'm studying maths). It was great for lectures, as I have to travel by car and train to get there, and it took up zero space.
    My son has the 7th gen and it uses the same apps, same iOS etc and when we discuss iPads in Uni, I do mention that a pro isn't needed. I just love the functionality of the 2nd gen pencil which was my deciding factor on going for pro.

I ordered the yellow one thinking it was going to be a bright vibrant color. Instead I looks like more of a Gold color. I personally prefer the gold look. Definitely not disappointed but just a heads up to the ones expecting a brighter cream of yellow.

Moreover, I am going to become a student once again and it will be so much helpful with iPad Pro. Finally, I received my 12,9 inch iPad Pro 2020 and I am more than happy about it, as it’s perfect size for me I even thought it is supposed to be bigger because everyone saying it’s huge but it’s light in real and it feels just amazing while working on it.

    on my personal take, i will take the 11 inch if i had a laptop to compliment for a large screen. 11 inch is not small for note taking and even drawing. the price of portability just cant be ignored. it's the very reason why photographers have shifted now to mirrorless cameras instead of staying to DSLRs. for everything like video editing and other heavy stuffs, the laptop will do the compliment the 11 inch lacks.
    but if you dont have a laptop, the 12 inch is a sure winner to hold and do your work.

Like yourself I'm a visual person and needs diagrams all the time (I work with software), also I'm into note taking (that's my way of learning), and additionally my hobby is drawing and painting, so my use case points me into the 12,9. Other use cases will point other users towards the 11 inch, and that too is a perfectly valid option.

    I used to have 12.9” then I downgraded to 11” just because I wanna be able to take both ipad&macbook at the same time everywhere with me. I seriously regretted nothing. I have MacBook pro I mostly use for essays writing, video editing or anything that’s not creativity related. I mainly use my ipad as a book and folder really. I agreed that 11” is so portable I don’t miss 12.9” one bit. I do use sidecar function a lot too but that’s really not my main concern. I seriously think that whichever one you go for it’s very less likely that you’d notice the difference. It’s very easy to get used to with it.
    P.S welcome back! Been missing your aesthetically pleasing video a lot!

      originally I wanted the 12.9 because I love large screens, but I use too many softwares on my computer that I can not use an iPad as a laptop replacement. Because of this, I was thinking maybe I should just go for the 11'" to save some money, and since if I need to be doing any desk type of work I will probably have my laptop with me too. It sounds like this is the situation with you and you also mentioned using sidecar, do you think the size is good for using sidecar, or does it feel too small? Do you still feel the same? I feel like in most cases, if you want to use the iPad as an actual tablet, the 11 is the way to go. I feel that the 11 is a tablet anyone can enjoy. Now if you need to use it as a laptop-replacing workstation the 12.9 is the best option. It’s still lighter than a regular laptop and folks who are on the more serious end of video editing, drawing, design, etc. would probably enjoy it more to sit down for hours and do their work.

  • @mijvlogs9520

    As always a great video. In my opinion size doesn’t matter, to me the extra inch of the 12.9 just makes it bulkier and less portable while also having to make you use it with two hands. I’ve used both sizes but I really just prefer the 11 inch, does this mean that the 12.9 is bad? Not at all, but the experience is a little different. In my opinion size does not matter, either choice has it’s pros and cons, but I myself don’t think that there is enough of a difference to ‘miss out on the true iPad experience.’ This video did make me reconsider my 11 inch iPad Pro, but to be honest, the cons I lose or gain aren’t enough to make me switch. But Great video, thanks Samuel.

    I look at it a little differently. As someone that has owned both. If you like to work and use your iPad in Portrait 11” is the way to go. If you use it more in Landscape 12.9 is for you. The extra screen real estate the 12.9 offers in landscape is actually a big deal when multi-tasking productivity apps or just at a desk. Working on your lap or mobile as stated in this video, use it in portrait and the 11” is amazing. Don’t worry about keyboards. You’re never going to use it outside of the house. The pencil is all you need and with iOS 14 “scribble” is better than carrying a keyboard. At home any external keyboard is fine, you’re at your desk get a nice stand for your iPad and off you go. Get a Raspberry Pi 4. It’s small you can remote into it, you can SSH into it, you can even power it up from the USB-C port, all from your iPad Pro and now you have a full desktop class machine that is pocketable.
