They need CHEAPER EVs. Bolt was just taking off when they canceled it. Try to find one now.

Absolutely-- If they produced just one Really good EV it would cost them Less to produce and if it became popular then they could expand- instead they are all over the map and Losing $
Lower prices and some representation as to quality service and reasonable battery replacement costs.
Mary Barra and General Motors do not have a clue about anything. *EV or ICE* .
Their EV Silverado has had at least 4 recalls and GM got caught lying about the Range on both the EV Hummer and Silverado.
The Cadillac Lyriq(sp) never really got off the ground.
It’s one thing for GM to lag behind on EVs. It’s another thing for them to mislead investors and the public saying they will lead… and then barely make any EVs at all

The actual reason GM has not delivered on its EV promises is simply that they chose not to scale their EV production - to maximize their reported short-term profitability and thereby the bonuses of Mary Barra and the other executives, at everyone else's expense.
The Chevy EV pickup is the best pickup on the road according to several reviews... but they only make a few of them. Price is very high as well.

Kyle on OOS is pushing that Chevy Silverado EV like crazy. Even it starts being sold to the public here in the US, I will drive to my local Chevy dealer in North Carolina and see if I can even find one. I ordered one like 2 years ago, canceled my order and the dealer fought me tooth and nail to keep my $100.00 deposit money. We got it back but it was like pulling teeth.

GM is making progress on EVs behind the scenes. They are building production facilities for both batteries and EVs.

I’ve got a Cadillac Lyriq and it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. Does not have the race car fun of a Tesla … as it’s a full sized EV but it does everything extremely well. 300 mile per charge, no problem, 290 khw fast charge , no problem, 4 wheel drive through the snow ? With ease. Plenty of luxury, and high tech stuff to keep all happy while you effortlessly and quietly float down the road …. I have stopes in a gas station going on 4 months.

By the end of this year, GM will be selling Blazer, Equinox, Lyriq, Escalade, Silverado, and Hummer EVs. Late next year, the Bolt will be relaunched with an LFP battery. I hope they do well.

How can companies not make a profit on EV's when the cost's for batteries has come down massively and are comparable to the cost of building a ICE engine???
GM is not making many EVs but that might not be a bad thing. There is no reason to exceed demand. Another good reason is to wait until the cars have the NACS charge port before ramping up production.

Anyway, the Chevy Silverado is a pretty impressive EV pickup. it’s pricey, but it has awesome range and charging speeds! If I were to buy an EV pickup, that would probably be the one I’d get. I’m
not getting an EV pickup (I don’t need one at all) but, if they can get their cars up to the same standard then they’d be tempting. Add in NACS support and then it’s just a matter of which is the better deal, Tesla or GM? Tesla for now, but GM has a slight chance to make it interesting at least!

Silverado EV may sell well due to super fast charging and humongous range. Not sure about Equinox and Blazer EVs and the redesigned Bolt EV.
To salt the wound they went a removed Carplay from EV's. I really like the look of the Equinox but no Carplay is a deal-breaker!!
I have been a big GM and Ford fan for most of my (long) life here in NZ. Mary just makes me want to scream! My Holden Commodore and my Colorado were great vehicles as well as my Falcon. But both manufacturers cannot seem to get their shit together. I now drive an MG Chinese made ev, and it has been faultless for the last 18 months. I still have a Ford Wildtrak to tow my boat, but to fill it up here is close to $200.00 including RUC --- not funny, and over 10 times the amount to home charge my MG including the new RUC. As NZ is close to China in several ways ( our biggest trading partner ) it is obvious that our future pick ups (utes) and other electric cars will come from Asia, (China Thailand Vietnam India) simply because their manufacturing base is close to us, and we have a reasonable relationship with them all. Here and in Ausi, the future of our vehicle imports (we do not manufacture cars anymore) I predict, will be mainly Asian sourced.
Buying an EV in this market would be financial suicide. People just don’t want them.

There are two trends in passenger cars for 2025. They are EVs and hybrids. GM's only hybrid is the Corvette so maybe she is right. They at least offer 5 EVs.😆

I think legacy auto has made a huge miscalculation about their ability to change over to EV.
Tesla has made it LOOK easy, but it took them years to work out the bugs.
Once legacy makers get it finally going, they will be able to scale their system quickly, that's something they understand better.

You can't expect her to be good at her job she only gets paid $29 million a year, who can live on that and be productive at work, she only got a 34% rise from 2019, as long as gets paid such a small amount she wont increase performance so don't expect GM car sales to increase until she gets paid a fair living wage like we all benefit from.

US government protectionist policies are giving GM a window to establish themselves as competent EV producer. Just provide us with a good reliable EV at a reasonable price and you will save the company. Otherwise GM is toast.

In December 2023, they discontinued production of the Bolt, an affordable and popular EV. They should have just kept it going. I'm not sure GM's stockholders are getting their $70 million worth out of Mary Barra.

GM not only doesn't make a profit on their EVs, they don't make a profit on most of their ICE product either. Just a bad company even before EVs were a thing. They relied too heavily on high end trucks and cars and now that market is softening. Although I do like the Corvette, but they should have built a mid-engine Corvette 20 years ago. Too late for that design change to really move the mark now. I just feel everything they do is 20 years too late.

I think the future of GM is tied to whether EVs really do take over the market. If they do GM is probably doomed. Given the advances in battery technology, and I'm talking about real batteries being produced this year by CATL, Panasonic and others EVs are about to get a huge increase in performance per unit cost. I think people underestimate how much EVs will improve over the next 5 years. I general when paradigm shifts like this happen the companies that do well are run by people who understand the technology shift and take advantage of it, not companies that are run by MBAs, marketing people and bean counters. Maybe GM will wake up and replace Mary Barra with someone who is a bit more tech savvy but even than I doubt it will save them.
