Gasoline in Washington State is very expensive compared to the rest of the US. Washington State gets about 65% of it's electricity from hydropower.
“Hold my beer.” - California Republic.
And their electricity is expensive as hell unfortunately.
Well done DC. New Zealand just got rid of EV incentives and slapped on road user charges for all hybrids and EV’s. 😲
Do heavy EV’s and hybrids not also use the road and need to contribute to road maintenance?
@@broncoazvideo yes sure but petrol cars don’t have to pay road user charges. Only diesel and electric.
@@Mrblobbsterbecause the road tax is baked in the gas prices in order to hide how much they are paying from users. You can't do that with electricity so they have to pay the fee directly.
I'm thinking of putting some cash in stocks, I was at Salt Shack and I overheard some friends saying it's ripe enough, but Is this a good time to buy stocks? I’ve been sitting on over $545K equity from a home sale and I’m not sure where to go from here, is it a good time to buy into stocks or do I wait for another opportunity?
The safest approach I feel to tackle it is to diversify investments. By spreading investments across different asset classes, like bonds, real estate, and international stocks, they can reduce the impact of a market meltdown. it's important to seek the guidance of an expert.
@@CharlesLeonard-tg9sz The reason I decided to work closely with a brokerage adviser ever since the market got really tense and the pressure became so much(I should be retiring in 17months) so I've had a brokerage adviser guide me through the chaos, its been 9months and counting and I've made approx. 650K net from all of my holdings.

Washington state has a $250 extra yearly registration on EV’s and it seems like it has not mattered. I think Washington is 2nd or 3rd in the country for EV’s. They did not have rebates that caused that. I think the extremely good charging infrastructure, very green grid, advanced grid technology because of using hydro power since 1900.
They do have sales tax in Washington which is waved for EV’s under $45,000. Up until now that was a small percentage of EV’s.
I heard they recently got rid of the sales tax rebate?
EV's don't pay fuel taxes. State of Washington gets 49.5 cents a gallon. It goes for highway maintenance.
@howardj602
Yes and most people get 30mpg so purchase 400 gallons of gas a year. Which is $200. So the $250 EV license fee is more than their fare share. And for my Nissan Leaf that I drive 1000 miles a year it is way more than the Leafs fare share.
@ericyuan9718
If that is true that would be a bummer.
@@ecospider5 EVs are 30% heavier than a comparably sized ICE and their tires wear out 20 to 30 % faster. They cause more wear and tear to a road surface. It may not even be their fair share.
I visited Californa in the mid 70s and air pollution was worst that I have ever seen. California intruduced car emmission regulations that changed the air and you can see the mountains.
They also didn’t have a decent public transport bus/rail system - that made matters worse.
The people of the West Coast states in the US tend to be more environmentally conscious at the administration level than other states.
The exception is Oregon who talks a big game but lets people open air burn piles of wood as well as heat their homes with wood. Ergo they have some of the worst air pollution in the US when they should have some of the best.
The lease deals are insane. Who would buy an EV rather than lease?
EV is not cheaper, it only means EV buyers are not paying the full amount for it. It means people not buying EVs are subsidizing with their tax money.
Fossil fuels have been subsidized for decades. Now it's EVs turn.
Who tells you this junk?
@@AllDogsAreGoodDogs Obviously not the junk eating dog.
Douglas is right. Selama is ignoring this fact: if America has such oil and gas reserves, why ship them out? Ans.: so they don't "nationalize" the oil firms, like they want to do with Soc. Sec. and Medicare.
But the jokes on them: people want to ditch the fossil fuel guzzlers and go electric, to save money. So all the fossils can do is raise price.
But gahd forbid an EV owner gets a subsidy. lol indeed.
Sounds good. Let's keep cranking up the EV subsidies and watch the transition accelerate!
As someone who lives in Dead Slave Owning President state, I say way to go! Funny that I had to find out about it from a guy in Australia.
Man I just moved to Washington and getting killed by gas prices and how unnecessarily expensive it is but this is dope
Literally paying people to buy EVs....
Incorrect. Correct: giving people their own money so they go and buy mainly US BEVs...and therefore subsidizing corporations...which means: US companies are owned by the people and not at all private.
People need to be bribed to buy them. The government agrees they aren't worth the money the manufacturers are demanding.
Australian government must do the same
Not with my tax dollars! If EV's are so good, they should succeed without subsidies.
So should the fossil fuel industry, that doesn't pay for the pollution and adverse climatic impacts. Basically the fossil fuel industry is being subsided directly by government incentives, but also by pollution and climate change that effects the entire planet and all living things. Assistance provided to fossil fuel producers and major users increased from $266 million in 2020-21 to $1.16 billion in 2021-22.
@@JoeyBlogs007 There's a reason they call it black gold. Even if 1.16 billion were true, the US produces around 4 billion barrels of oil, x $80 a barrel = around 350 billion dollars a year. So that would be a great investment.
Musk's Buffalo factory alone cost the taxpayer a billion dollars, which he rents from the state for $1.
Norway and Saudi Arabia have arguably the greatest wind and solar resources per capita in the world respectively. Do you seriously think those countries' oil industries are subsidized by all the excess wealth generated by their windmills and solar panels? Or is it the other way around?
@JoeyBlogs007 Norway funds most of it's government programs because of the oil they sell.
@@user-jb2om7cm8m Preserve oil for things that can't be replaced via alternative yet like aviation fuel, going to need a lot of it in future war.
You nearly said it, "make EVs cheaper."
Now is an absolutely fantastic time to get into your first EV as we are likely at or near the bottom of the campaign of negativity towards them that is hiding just how cost-efficient owning an EV is. There are still many people who think falsely that owning an EV is a regressive step from an ICE vehicle. Unless you tow regularly, owning an ice passenger vehicle has now become a fools errand.
This is only for people who can't afford it unless they live with parents for free
Too bad majority of Newmar buyers seem to disagree with you. But, keep evangelizing.
I paid in full my ICE vehicle 25 years ago. It runs very well, and takes me where I want to go. What's the incentive for me. I had the tranny replaced 6 years ago for $2,000 and got new tires for $800. A few oil changes since then have been pocket change.
@@howardj602, yup..same with me..will keep on driving my 2004 Buick lesabre..even if the engine goes out, I'll just get it rebuilt. New cars are waaaay to expensive and the interest are verrrrry high..not work it.
I like Virginia's approach. EVs are selling well here - if you got to any stoplight in Loudoun or Fairfax or Arlington County you will see a Tesla, Rivian, or a Hyundai. Virginia is supporting the building of large EV charging parks. Especially near Virginia Beach, Norfolk, RIchmond, and Northern VA
This is ridiculous, 45k per year is extremely low! Hour min wage is 15 per hour
UK take a note and do something about / copy and paste USA incentives if you want the speedier Net Zero achievements.
It’s too easy. Governments only do soundbites…
Just put a £ 5k carbon tax on all ice vehicles including hybrids.
Extra free tax income on morons & the rich….
We don't actually want any more EV's. The electrical grid is already overloaded.

India Tata Company asking battery from CATL to Land Rover and Jaguar
Great. I hope people make use of this incentive while it lasts.
Where is Washington state getting all this money from?
The buyer's grandchildren
They've worked that it's cheaper to offer incentives to encourage BEV ownership than to combat air/water pollution in other ways, caused by fossil-fuel road transport.
@ramblerandy2397 Who's They? Where's the money come from?
Australia has improved its EV arrangements when salary packaging, but I agree more could be done. The tailpipe pollution from ICE vehicles probably costs soicety on average about $AUD15 000. It would be great to price that difference at purchase. Maybe add a fee at purchase for an ice vehicle depending on ots lifetime pollution and use that to subsidise new EVS.
When EV stock for the seconhand market has grown some assistance there would be good.
Meanwhile California pretty much eliminated the EV Credit because they couldn't keep up with it last year unless your Low Income
by California standards.
A lease is a fleece.
Why lease a new car past the warranty period?
Afternoon mate
Ca has a program. You can turn in an ICE vehicle. Income based. A big hassle. You have to go to dismantler get approval, go to dealer get receipt on new car go back to dismantler and drop off the car.
Sure, I bought an EV in four months ago. Great.
I wish to live in US . In the uk, you need to pay five grand for a year tesla standard plus on insurance. 😂 we are far from ev
Only in few states! We have ways to go to show we are serious in EV adoption.
I own a 2024 Tesla MYLR and took advantage of a $3500 state incentive. That being said, the states shouldn’t have to subsidize a superior product with other taxpayers money. When the EV’s get good enough they won’t need incentives. I would’ve purchased my car regardless of subsidies.
So would you lease or buy used ev?
I live in Washington State. My license plate tabs for my 2023 Tesla Model Y are an absurd $1030. per year. About $250. of this amount is for an electric vehicle tax that was implemented in order to help offset the gas tax to help maintain roads. I gather the license plate tab renewals are much lower in Republican States.
Sam, it would be interesting to see how much they charge for license plate tabs in the same Tesla Vehicle for all 48 states in USA
Currently, Oregon vehicle license plates need renewal stickers every two years, and for EVs, these cost $136. Plates for brand-new vehicles, though, come with tabs that expire after FOUR years.
you do know republican states are shit holes.....right?
Good, it sounds like the ev gang are funding the program.
Taxes in general are lower in Republican states. More power, and money, to the people. Less waste and tyranny.
@@katzgar is that why populations are increasing in Texas and Florida and decreasing in California?

Sam they should make you Hertz CEO 😜
Bribing people to buy an EV is not going to make them practical!
They are not practical?
Owned one for 3 years ws my only family car and didn't realise, how foolish of me 😅
You don't need to, they already are.
China more than 50% of new cars are EVs , in Norway 90%.
But it might get ford to finally mass produce them.
Best selling car in 2023 was?
Someone making under 45k a year is not buying a brand new ev
Now they are and they’re gonna lease it!! Like giving candy out to a baby, everybody wins!!! (/sarcasm)
Thus the preference toward leasing (and those of modest income). With these incentives, the new Model 3 can be leased for around $100 dollars per month. The gas savings alone make this very affordable.
@@ronin4580 It's going to be expensive when there is some damage to the body upon return....
Be a middle man for a mate and clop the ticket
@@ronin4580 $100 to lease a Tesla or any electric car for the month? What world are you living on.
The incentives should only be there to bring price parity. They should also be forever because not everyone is looking to buy an EV today.
If they can't make it on their own, there has to be something wrong with them. I was ready to order one when the incentives ended, they didn't end and the massive price cuts got cancelled showing incentives go directly to the manufacturer
@justinr9753 I think subsidises ended because the profits are ending up in Chinese pockets. The transition will take some time. Not everyone is ready to buy a car this year or next year. You are correct not everyone wants a Chinese EV.
The $9000 Rebate is only for people living below the poverty level. In the state of Washington that is described as a family of 4 making below 93,000 annually.
Federal requirments are much more liberal Married couples filing jointly or surviving spouses: $300,000 Heads of households: $225,000.
Isn't this redistribution of wealth likely to drag taxpayers down from above the poverty level to below the poverty level? Or worse, people elect to join the below poverty level because it makes financial sense?
@@francismarion6400 You call this redistribution of wealth? The top 10% richest own more than the bottom 90% combined, with $95 trillion in wealth. Remember that you cannot get on the "gravy train and arrive below the poverty level if you have financial assets that exceed $4,250. This includes home equity and Motor vehicles. If you own a motor vehicle worth $4650 the amount over that value counts as financial assets. With certain hardship exceptions.
Can't wait for the introduction of the robots that will eliminate several million jobs without a Universal Basic Income guarantee.
@@howardj602 Yes, where does the $9,000 credit come from? Does it come solely from the people it's meant to be given to?
@@francismarion6400 It my understanding that it from the state of Washington tax payers. Generally speaking people who live below the poverty level pay about 11 percent of their income in state and federal taxes,
With its lower gasoline prices there isn't as much incentive to change from the running cots reduction aspect therefore Americans need a higher purchase incentive than in most other countries to entice them to make the change.
The irony is that EVs are hugely responsible for low gas prices now. 20 years ago gas prices would have exploded upwards this year with the current world events and wars. 20 years ago gas would be $8/gallon right now with all that’s going on. But now Oil corporations know that people will simply switch to EVs in a huge way if they jack up gasoline prices like they used to. People that want to keep their gas cars have EV owners to thank for their low gas prices these days.
@@nerdbikes3841 These inentives might just finish the gas industry off as they won't be able to sustain these cuts.
Unfortunately , all politicians in the western world work for their downers. That is why EV adoption is slow not advancing as they should giving their huge advantage over what OEM producing.
In the USA they collected 53 billion in gasoline taxes in 2021.
In Washington state they pay a $250 EV registration tax for the roads. So EVs pay a higher percentage of taxes compared to ice vehicles

People take for granted how much better it is over here. Even the more clean burning gasoline does wonders compared to what is burnt in Asia.
It was quite common in Asia to go out for a day and come back with your clothes reaking and stained black from gas exhaust.
EVs are coal powered.
What about the incentives for the oil industry? That’s the Republican’s behind the scene action.
The Australian government needs to take EV'S SERIOUSLY , it's the FUTURE of driving !

You mean like the oil industry which has been getting subsidies for years. IMF says even today real and de facto subsidies for global oil sector range upwards of $5TRIILION! And that's not even counting impacts of climate change.
Sam Evans seems to be a fake name taken from the TV show 'Glee'.
He is a Robot, you can see the exposed wiring on the chin.
More subsidies for rich people from the tax dollars of working people.
I have a question. Do you own an EV? If so, which one?
Demonstrates times are not good for the EV world when you have to give people $9000 just to buy the things. Coming from the state with excessive homeless and rampant drug use.
It's the only way to "sell" EVs...practically give them away; just glad I'm not a Washington State taxpayer!
Pollution's hidden cost on those hospitalised and those that simply suffer the effects of air pollution, is probably costing well over $10,000 per person over the course of their lifetime. So really this $9,000 is not exactly unjustifiable. It's very logical and rational to permanently replace pollution with clean air. The health cost savings along could be massive, let alone the climate and related health benefits in greenhouse gas reduction. People are also succumbing to health impacts related to climate extremes don't forget.
The ICE crowd don't like to mention the costs of automobile emissions, either $$$ or health-wise (an estimated 300,000 deaths per year in the U.S.).

Washington state still needs more Fast Chargers. Remarkably very few.
If EVs require incentives, then the product is inferior and cannot stand on its own merits. Incentives simply means you are taking from the majority and giving to the minority. The percentage of EVs vs ICE is still so LOW, I do not believe they have had a measurable impact on air quality. It's like say 2 people in you neighborhood traded for EVs and you measure a significant impact.

This could be amazing. All these incentives are based on the idea of making expensive EVs more in line with gas cars. But think what will happen when there are cheap EVs? They might be nearly free and actually free when you factor in the gas and oil savings.
