China’s not afraid of competition. That’s why China wants Teslas to compete there to improve both Tesla and the Chinese domestic FSD programs.
Tesla collecting data for FSD does nothing for Chinese companies. You can steal manufacturing techniques, but without the data and the compute power, you can’t replicate what Tesla is doing.

Look at the Tesla Stock today!!!!!!!!!! Looks like it worked!! 🤑
It will crash back down when Tesla FSD causes numerous accidents in China
Tesla's strategy has always revolved around autonomy. It is good that many of the folks who invested in the stock for a compact car have sold and moved on. With China's support, FSD will be reach the next level of adoption. Unfortunately, Tesla has faced significant push back in the US.
If China wanted to support it they would have been like the US and allowed Tesla FSD Beta to be widely tested by Chinese Tesla owners. Meanwhile in the US we been driving around with Tesla FSD Beta for YEARS. It is available in ~2Million cars. BTW I don't see millions of Chinese EV FSD users...hmmm..funny that...
@@someuser7501 US Law provides the Federal Gov't no power to limit Tesla Owners from using the software. Although they have been working overtime under this administration to find a way around their lack of authority. This in my view has been the problem.

For the Economics professors in the USA colleges this does not make sense. The Chinese government is helping Tesla more than the USA government.
These professors are simply dump. The move will help Tesla short term but even better for Chinese EVs makers as they get the under table technology transfers by copying, learning and replicating Tesla’s FSD and its infrastructure. Bad deal for Tesla long term.

With current hardware it is a strictly supervised driver assistance package, although a very good one. The only working example we have of that is Waymo, which has way more hardware, is geolocked and occasionally has to call home.
Baidu starts offering nighttime driverless taxis
December 26, 2022
Starting this week, the public can ride its robotaxis in Wuhan between 7 am and 11 pm without safety drivers behind the wheel.
Previously, its unmanned vehicles could only operate from 9 am to 5 pm in the city.
The updated scheme is expected to cover one million customers in certain areas of Wuhan, a city of more than 10 million people. Like most autonomous vehicle startups, Baidu combines a mix of third-party cameras, radar and lidar to help its cars see better in low-visibility conditions, in contrast to Tesla’s vision-based solution.
In August, Baidu started offering fully driverless robotaxi rides, charging passengers at taxi rates.
In Q3, Apollo Go, the firm’s robotaxi hailing app, completed more than 474,000 rides, up 311% year over year.

I have a HW4 Tesla Model Y. I have trialed the latest FSD software and it's definitely a wonderful improvement to what I experienced ~1 year before. In my own experience during the 30 day trial it's useful as a workload reducer in a number of situations, particularly in slower moderate to heavy traffic situations, however I feel it's nowhere near as competent and smooth as my own average driving and failed badly (Had to manually intervene, passengers were frightened by FSD's performance) when attempting a difficult U-Turn and a left turn across a busy suburban US road. I feel it's a great step forward towards an eventual Lvl 5 autonomous driving. But to me right now it's a USD 2K product, I would not rent it as it's not something that I would use all the time, only occasionally, when the right circumstances are present. The great thing about Tesla FSD is that it's going to get better and cheaper as we move forward.
Even without 100% FSD, it can be viable on simple stretches of road with no U-turns, for example. Like trucking on highways or bus routes. I don’t know why they aren’t doing this.
@@TheBooban Absolutely, agreed. I just feel there are too many people, saying the current FSD is superhuman in its capabilities. In my own personal experience it's definitely not and is still a way off from being as competent as an average US driver.
Yesssss
Win win cooperation was originally the best option, but often the US government only wants to monopolize everything
It will lead them to the ground.
wait till people realize they save money on insurance by adding and using FSD. I save over $60 which allows me to afford FSD.
You must have Tesla insurance because the legacy carriers would NEVER reward someone for using FSD. They hate Tesla. My state doesn't allow Tesla insurance yet.
@@jerz8289 YES im using tesla insurance. legacy insurance wanted to charge $245 for tesla. tesla charges $145 if you have good safety score. using FSD keeps my safety score above 95. if its in the low 80's you'll pay upwards of $230.
Great news
I wonder if this is like Reuters saying Tesla canceled model 2
can anyone answer me a simple question, why China agrees on allowing FSD for Tesla and not seeing it as a national security threat ?
中国希望竞争来推动自动驾驶技术进步
How is Tesla FSD a national security issue? Explain that first and we can answer your question.
Simple. China doesn't see Tesla FSD as a national security threat, while the US sees BYD/XPENG/NIO/XIAOMI/HUAWEI FSD as a national security threat.
China just in the last week cleared some of its own EV companies (Li Auto, Lotus, Hozon New Energy Automobile, BYD and NIO) as not being security threats...after like 7 months of internal investigations.
Yes, just recently Teslas were being prevented from some areas because of their video recording, although that was by private concerns, not the central government.
Umm, this looks like rolling the dice with the viability of FSD for the sake of first mover advantage.
SFSD 12.3.6 reviews I watched online are impressive, however drivers still needed to take control several times to avoid impacts with other cars.

Sam: The jump from FSD to Robotaxi is quite large. RoboTaxi's will require a lot of additional capabilities to become viable.
The only extra ability is to be able to charge themselves.

@@yodaiam1000 what? Seriously? That’s the big block? Chatgpt and an ipad. Done.
@@TheBooban It is a big issue but not necessarily the big block. It is very difficult but necessarily to design around all sorts of disabilities. It is a hardware issue and not a software issue. An ipad and Chatgpt isn't going to resolve it. It is not necessarily insurmountable but probably a lot harder than you think.
There will be many issues that you and I have never even considered.
Good vid. Exciting times. China will be he first to adopt FSD.
Is the huge gap up in TSLA today based on anticipated revenue from selling or renting FSD in China, and Tesla vehicle sales this might engender? Or is there more to it?
L5 FSD is hard (if not impossible, at this point). But short of this maybe L4 FSD, if one is thinking robo-taxis. Or maybe "self delivering" cars, whereby afterwards the human can take over, esp. for edge cases. Also, I think there will be a lot more L2 and L3 "driver assist", to take the stress off of long freeway driving. But kudos to Tesla, for finding a market whereby they can test these ideas out.

I live in China and FSD CANNOT be any more dangerous than the average driver here.
BYD will have to come onboard
I don't believe Tesla will implement the security compliance in the way you suggested. The cost of replicating another Dojo cluster in China is cost prohibitive.
The most cost effective way for Tesla to comply is to create a clearing house in China where the CPR sees the data first and approves it being sent back to DOJO in the States.
I have a high degree of confidence this is the approach that will be used.
Ok the condition that Tesla gives up their FSD IP 😂😂
Elon Musk's Historic China Trip: Tesla's $50 Billion Surge!
Tesla FSD runs on Baidu maps and complies with Chinese Regulations on big data collections in order to be used in China, hence Tesla is one step closer to China. This is in contrast to TikTok's treatment by the Robbers in the US.

Welcome, easier to 'study' it.
An achievement 💪 but Is it huge financially? I am not so sure
The key is sorting out the insurance liability and providing immunity for corporate manslaughter. If China agrees to take those risks off of Tesla and onto the China government then Tesla will complete fsd faster than we thou possible. This is up to the Chinese regulators.
There’s 100 Chinese EV company and 1 Tesla, I think it’s just a placement to help these companies learn how to properly do international business than anything else.

Very strange why only Elon Musk could have done this. Maybe China offered a better proposal than India. It's quite strange.
India No1
im telling you, tesla from $138 to $386+ called before earnings in the comments, but NIO will outperform over the same time frame 🙂
I think there may be a problem of where the data is stored and used. Up to now, Tesla have had to agree to it staying in China but maybe as a driving prompt to FSD through DOJO they may ask for a DOJO also to be put in China?? China is desperate to help its new age businesses as the rest of the economy is tanking along with unsupportable debts!!
You can't put Dojo in China. It's using banned Nvidia H100 chips
China is a place where Elon Musk can play at his full potential and try some boldest new ideas.

Chinese debt is mostly internal debt
Where they have little external debt 2.4 trillion
Kind of like when you Americans only list your 35 trillion in Sovereign external debt
While not including the 500 trillion in internal debt
As for their slowdown
In China in 2008 around 70% of the people in their real estate markets were buying their 1st homes in their cities
By 2018 around 70% of the people in their real estate markets were buying their 2nd and 3rd homes in their cities
That’s why you are hearing about problems with their property developers these days. Because back in 2010? Their Central Government started cutting of money flow to these developers.
Thus why you heard about Shadow Banks and Underground Economy back then, that their Government had to come into to shutdown or regulate.
Even then, It took them almost 14 years to get their overheated real estate under control
Heck they were about to introduce a nation wide property tax, but then trump started the trade war in 2018
Why is their Central Government doing this?
Because there are still a few hundred million poorer rural folk they still expect to move to the cities to join their more well off urban city folk countrymen.
Problem is these property developers were building higher end homes, and not building the affordable homes these rural migrants will need
In China
Owning a home in the city you migrate to? Affects your employment, health, education and even marriage prospects don’t have a house you don’t get married
Thus the common prosperity push and the crackdown on the overt displays of wealth in China
Their Government probably figured out you disenfranchise the people at the bottom of your society they are the ones most likely to act out in protest
And yes Musk is looking to bring FSD data from China over to the USA
China will probably block that
As America will probably do the same
Full self driving for China, OK.

The goal of FSD is no crashes. It’s the same with drivers. It’s worth going over what approaches are used to prevent crashes. But first, the crashes:
Fatal crashes
Crashes with serious injuries
Serious property damage
Minor property damage
Just a bump (with no damage, we don’t even call it a crash)
Near miss
They say if you focus on eliminating near misses, you eliminate everything.
The road safety triangle has 3 sides: the road, the driver and the vehicle.
Sweden started the Vision Zero program to reach zero traffic fatalities and serious injuries. It focuses on making street design and protocol safer. An example is having a median on highways to prevent head on collisions. Lower speed limits. Switch to bicycles and buses. (Fewer cars = fewer car crashes)
In 1952, Harold Smith started teaching driver’s ed using what he called the Smith System where they talk about the 5 Keys. He targeted fleets (trucks, buses, etc.) where he would get paid by companies but it’s the foundation of all driver’s ed courses around the world from the basic courses to advanced racing courses and VIP chauffeur courses which include evasion from intended harm.
And the vehicles themselves have become safer. Ralph Nader’s book Unsafe At Any Speed pushed car makers to make safety a higher priority. Some would argue car safety standards were improving decades before his book but it certainly highlighted the need to improve safety and so much has been done since. We could say computer controlled cars are included in this category but it can also be said human driver or computer controlled, that’s in the category of driving.
All three approaches have been used since the first car. All have improved safety and keep improving as they target zero fatalities first, zero serious injuries, zero property damage and zero near misses.
The 4 E’s of road safety are Engineering, Enforcement, Education and Emergency Response. Naturally, emergency response minimizes the number of fatalities and serious life changing injuries, as well as fire, rescue from vehicles submerged in water, etc. And so much has improved in this approach as well.
But we still have a lot of crashes of all categories, with fatalities still in the range of 40,000 a year in the US. Traffic fatalities worldwide have been coming down mostly because countries with high fatality rates have taken basic countermeasures, the low hanging fruit. But we also started calculating traffic fatalities by year for a city. Many cities have been approaching zero for a given year. Hoboken, New Jersey, has a record of 7 years in a row with zero traffic fatalities and keeps going, to reach zero serious injuries.
What does all this mean for FSD, for computer controlled driving? Well, if Hoboken has zero traffic fatalities with drivers, it’s easier for FSD to match that standard. Safer designed streets means FSD doesn’t need to work as hard to achieve zero fatalities than in a city with streets that are more dangerous by design. We could say if we can have safe streets without FSD then we don’t need it. But it doesn’t take long to realize how valuable it is to have a car drive itself.
Something that puzzles me is, the point of constantly gathering info from the cars is to teach the computer to learn how to handle every situation that could result in a crash, so it’s so much better than geofenced systems that rely on mapping everything in a small area. Ok. If you do that, then you could create FSD in America, then just use that computer system in every country. Whatever edge cases specific to a region where the car hasn’t been to before, the car could just slow down and use more caution. So what’s the point of sending all the driving info from every car to a central computer in the US? And why not design safer streets in all countries so computer based driving tech would have an easier time reaching zero crashes, near zero near misses?
Something I was curious about is what Elon Musk said about the Tesla semi truck. He said it would eventually be cheaper than rail. That’s great news. But what if we try to make rail cheaper? What if we try to make rail safer and more efficient? People talk about Tesla designing and building electric aircraft. And an independent company pays Tesla to use the company name for their yachts. But what about rail? How would that affect greening the planet? How would that affect train crashes? It may sound like I’m putting all the pressure on Tesla when it would benefit train builders to build better trains, not some Silicon Valley startup. I guess I am. Train makers can improve their vehicles the same way car manufacturers can improve cars. But it seems they haven’t or only marginally. But for Tesla, getting into the train building business seems like low hanging fruit compared to making electric jets.

Knowing China, this is a win, win for them, Baidu gets to control all aspects of the FSD, get to study Dojo computer AI and shares the knowlege they learn with their local EV manufacturers.
That must be it. Xi Jinping is clamping down on Western companies in China so unless there is serious gains to be had the regime would never have helped Tesla out. And AI is the holy grail of technology with major military implications.
Baidu has the comprehensive map data -- also a win for Tesla.
What? Chinese Tesla's ALREADY use Baidu maps because foreign mapping companies are considered a security risk by China. Even Apple iPhones in China have to use Chinese mapping companies. 🙄 Baidu maps have no control over the FSD software as it is compiled by the Dojo supercomputer. I amnot certian abt Tesla putting their AI servers in China. they are discussing abt exporting edge cases data to USA for crunching. all data collected on Baidu maps
Why do you think the AI servers are being put in China? They are only used to create the FSD software which the car downloads like a Windows Update. The servers are not used at all by the car as it is driving.
@@someuser7501yes, if the AI is complete. But they also want to train it. So they need to transmit the data to AI servers.

Elon Musk has been looking to obtain approval to transfer data collected in China to train algorithms for its autonomous driving technologies.
Musk has been looking to obtain approval to transfer data collected in China to train algorithms for its autonomous driving technologies. The company since 2021 has been storing all data collected by its Chinese fleet in Shanghai as required by Chinese regulators.

@@someuser7501probably the conversation went no you can’t transfer that data but we will let you partner up with Baidu in China and help Tesla to compete in the Chinese market
you will learn this lesson because when musk make a this big move that is an advantage against legacy automakers they a royally screwed now sense if you merge Tesla's data of usa with china's data Fsd will rapidly skyrocket on updates in the scale of force of collision of 2 galaxies.its game over there no way others are going to compete against Tesla in global scale legacy automakers are screwed the winner is tesla for having not only have data centers installed for auto pilot.but also get things done like a true business man now imagine what Tesla will do to other big countries if they get too much data fsd will skyrocket because of this.
Cutting the HUMAN workforce not the robots !
Go Elon go
Eventually it will be mandatory, most people will use robo
The FSD beta will be Baidu based
Just the map data. Not the self driving part.

Accumulatively, Apollo Go had exceeded 1.4 million orders as of Q3.

Who is that in the video that Elon is meeting?
Premier Li Qiang. His position is equalized as VP in US but more likely to be next president succeeding Xi.

All FSD and related technologies will be stolen or replicated by Chinese EV makers. IMO this is a stupid and terrible move long term for Tesla.
First, you need to do some basic research on who has better FSD technologies and who is developing faster right now, you mindset reflects what it was in a long while ago, not now and not with FSD@@georgiaguardian4696
It's BS ... in fact Mercedes admitted that they exaggerated their claims. If they had level 3 every news outlet would be harping on it. Not happening. You can only use it on the highway. It's Lidar driven ... far inferior to Tesla FSD -- The Lidar requires GEO fencing ... For them to call it level 3 is absolute BS.
All of these American TH-camrs fail to interview anyone working in the industry. They are living in the Tesla bubble. These people are totally clueless.
MB Drive Pilot meets the definition of Level 3; but that certainly doesn't make it superior to FSD, which is Level 2. Here's what SAE says on the subject: "While numbered sequentially 0 through 5, the levels of driving automation do not specify or imply hierarchy in terms of relative merit, technology sophistication, or order of deployment. Thus, this taxonomy does not specify or imply that, for example, Level 4 is 'better' than Level 3 or Level 2."
Tesla FSD can do "full" self driving without driver intervention? Robotaxi announcement in August 8 will for sure require geo fencing as well. fanboi
@@Big_Ben_from_La_Mesa Makes sense ....
@ev.whyking _Mercedes-Benz ... officially achieved _*_the feat_*_ of getting a Level 3 car on a U.S. Road._
Yes, they got Drive Pilot, which operates only at speeds below 40 MPH in traffic jams on precision-mapped, limited-access divided highways, during daytime only, in clear weather, approved for use in Nevada and California. Meanwhile, FSD (Supervised), operates on every road, street, highway or freeway in the US and Canada, paved or not, mapped or not, at any time of day or night, in most any weather, at any speed up to 85 MPH; but does require a touch on the steering wheel every minute or two. I will leave it to others to decide which is more useful.
Shame..FSD will be virtually impossible to initiate & use, totally safely in all countries of the world, with different languages, laws, Left Hand Drive Vs Right Hand, etc..... I think it will take a long time, & then why would anyone want to pay for, & use it, if one is a fully competent driver. Smart cars, that can avoid & evade dangerous situations are more important, & even these technologies have not been anywhere perfected yet, & that is much more important.
You don't understand how it works. Software Engineers aren't teaching it how to drive. It is using videos of people driving in specific countries to teach itself (sort of like how DeepMind's AlphaGo was given a huge number of previously played "Go" games and used that knowledge to beat the world Champion Go player ). The one that works in the US/Canada was generated from the cameras of millions of current US/Canadian Tesla owners recording their driving. Not by hand programming. It wasn't even taught English. They also have millions of hours of Chinese Tesla owners driving (there's close to 2Milllion Teslas on Chinese roads recording). It will be used to either create a completely new Chinese FSD version or modify the US/Canadian one. This is exactly how they are getting around the issues you have brought up. It has no bias towards languages or which side of the road as it starts from zero with no preconceptions. The Chinese version will have Chinese driving mannerisms so it blends in while the US/Canadian one will have our mannerisms.
GigaBerlin has already surpassed 1 Million vehicles sold plus Europe has imported even more from other factories so Tesla has enough cars on the road recording to create a European FSD version (with all their different road signs). They had a demo of it last week on German roads and the regulators called it amazing.
The toughest part will be areas where there are few Teslas on the road and they can't supply an adequate amount of video footage. They will have to either be given some base generic system or one from another region.
Pronounced as “Bye-doo”

China wants to reward Tesla, for not playing geopolitics.
You mean the way Elon is supporting Russia/Chinese aggression against Europe?
I agree
The CCP only does things in its best interest. I have no idea what’s afoot but I do know it’s about wealth or control, and often both. You see, for example, if Elon is hosting the data in Baidu, then the CCP has access to the data of their citizens and they can get all of the information that they need about what an individual has been doing with their car.
It may not be safe to drive a Tesla if the CCP wants to get after you. They’ll just have your car drive you to the nearest public security bureau.
This is a win for Tesla though because they’re going to get a lot of driving data to further improve self driving. It may be a win for Chinese companies too because perhaps they will get access to that data as well.
Let’s watch and see how all of this turns out.
