Wanted to comment about oil changes. I believe the manual states that for the 4xe oil changes are recommended every 10,000 miles. The dealership was shocked when I showed them this - they believed it was supposed to be every 5,000 miles driven. With that said, and having owned a Volt for the previous 8 years, you need to change the oil at least every six months because oil breaks down on it’s own, even if you aren’t running the engine. One aspect of maintenance I didn’t hear you touch on are the brakes. If you use max regen often (which I do) then your Jeep is slowed down using the max regen function of the electric motors, which saves your brakes tremendously - I believe it can double the expected life of your brakes - at least this is what I experienced for the Volt

Great video. We have a 3.6l Wrangler and Gladiator, we will be replacing the Gladiator later in the year and we’re considering the 4xe. You’ve given us a lot of information to consider.
Remember not all level 2 chargers are equal. Level 2 in the states means 220volt but there are 2 types of 220v. One that does about the 15amps and one that does 30+amps. This still slow when you consider the DC charging at several 100amps.
Thank you for all your vids on the Jeep Wrangler 4xe. I've learned so much about mine, Thanks to you. Love your drag racing video. ❤️❤️ Bty. To say Thank you. I hooked up with you thru Amazon. Looking forward for more vids.
Was wanting to get a 4XE but could not justify the extra $11,000 over the eTorque, so I went with the eTorque… it should be arriving in the next 5-7 days.
I have owned Jeeps for the past 30 years and loved every one of them. I've had some angst over the carbon footprint these leave lately. I love the idea of a hybrid, but I'm not yet convinced that a 25-mile max is worth the expense. I realize it does help the overall mileage, but I'm going to wait until Jeep offers more bang for its electrical buck. Thank you so much for this video.
Just started trying to get one…dealers around here are terrible..just got low balled on my trade because it had a brand new set of tires. Can’t make this stuff up…got to shop out of the area. 🤞
I have my 4xe already for 1 and half yea(same blue color, awsome) I am very happy with my car and the purpose of it (working in the Swiss alps )BUT the car have had so many problems... 1.Cricket noise when I was going backwards and braking or going slow over obstacles-->Jeeps brake factory problem. The dealer didn't even know but at the end made a thermal treatment and problem solved.(I got a rubicon as a courtesy car with 2k miles and it has the same problem lol) 2.Water leaks. With heavy rain i always find the carpets wet , don't even know where the water is coming from.--> solution ,nothing ,they said to me is a common problem. 4.warings about electric mode not available 3. Engine light on after electric mode not avaliable, cabin cooling or heating....-->got it a few days ago.Daler gave me the appointment in 2 weeks.... I statically love the car but it has always so many problems.
Well kiddies if you plan to plow snow several months a year AND have a hybrid that can pull good size trailers AND travel safely in severe winter, this really makes sense ... plow snow in morning, recharge 2 hours with 220V charger, then go get groceries and run errands at mid-day, back home and recharge and plow snow again as needed ... places like UP of MI, WI, Pennsylvania and New England States, etc. where there is ALSO off-road hunting and fishing trails with possible lots of mud, woodlands where, uh, the firewood is, etc. Me want one.
A wrangler is my dream car and has been for the longest. The 4XE took care of my gas guzzler anxiety. But what stopped me is the safety in a Jeep. I have two small kids and the lack of airbags are a deal breaker for me. I get why they don’t have as many but for someone who wouldn’t take it off road or really even customize it, I wish I had the option to add more airbags into it. But once these kids are out the house, I am going right to a Jeep dealership.
@@BrandonHaneline true but the type of people who drive Wranglers are more likely to be in the safer zone of drivers. Motorcycle experience helps IMHO when it comes to crash avoidance.
@@DAVJULART while I do get that, I live in Texas. The Wrangler is a pretty high vehicle, but no protection for the passengers in the rear seat is a major concern for me. And again while I get that a bunch of airbags all over could be issues for some folks who really customize their vehicles, I wish they would at least give the option. I thought it wasn’t possible because of all the stuff you can take off but then the Bronco entered the conversation.
Although the rear airbags are missing, overall the crashworthiness of the Wrangler is very good. The actual National Highway Traffic Safety Insurance Institute Crash Data ( real world accidents reported to the insurance agencies ) shows that the Wrangler is better then average in actual crashes for injuries in those crashes. IE safer then most if not all subcompact cars with all their front, side, back airbags. This data has been available since the late 80's ( earlier I think but I was too young to know) and it showed that even the first Wranglers back then were also better then most people would have thought. No airbags back then.
Brandon, I consider you the subject matter expert for 4Xe, way more informed than anyone at the dealerships (don’t know shit, only trained to say “when can you come in?” Like robots.) I posted this question (how long will it run AC on battery power?” On JeepWrangler Forum, in six months only got one response (“same time as driving 23 miles”) huh? So same energy to just run AC as to propel a 5500 lb vehicle? I saw your video when you set temp ((78-79 degrees?) and ran the AC, how long will it run on a full charge? Thanks, and keep the great videos coming!
@@BrandonHaneline A lot. However, the advantages still outweigh the costs. For instance. A teacher in South Carolina average salary is around $32,000 from what a friend of ours told us. A teacher in CT averages around $64,000. Overall, it's all about knowing how to balance finances.
The Jeep should let you know when you should change your oil. It should calculate your averages regarding e drive vs. gas drive and recommend when you should change your oil.
Love the video! I have owned a Sahara 4xe since last June. A couple things I wanted to comment on. First - the $7500 tax credit is federal - not state - so if you owe $7500 or more in federal tax the year you buy it you get it all back. Currently, if your federal tax bill at the end of the year is less than $7500, you only get back what federal tax you owe, and the remaining credit doesn’t carry over to the next year. Some states have an additional EV tax credit that would differ from state to state. The EV credit for the Jeep 4xe could potentially be increased to $12,500 if the Rebuild America bill passes. It added to the $7500 credit because the Jeep is made in America by a union work-force. This bill will hopefully pass in 2022 - fingers crossed. For me, I bought mine in 2021 so I was able to take advantage of the $7500 tax credit fully. The Electrify America chargers are DC Fast Chargers which some of the newer cars like the Mustang Mach-E can use to charge the batter from about 20% to 80% in about 30 minutes. I live in an apartment and can’t install a 220v outlet in my garage - but living with 110v level 1 charging hasn’t been all that bad. Typically after I go on a trip my Jeep is fully charged in the morning when I need it again. I get about 27 miles on a charge. Living in Orlando this is a great feature. Still, I do miss my 55 miles range of the 2017 Chevy Volt Premier that was my previous car. With my typical driving I am averaging 35 mpg since I bought the car about 9 months ago. Running in hybrid mode I average about 22 mpg. One pesky thing I didn’t like about the Jeep 4xe was that I had to engage max regen mode every time I turned on the Jeep, The owners manual states it’s supposed to remember if it was engaged before turning off the ignition, but sadly this feature doesn’t seem to have been enabled in the Jeep they deliver from the factory. Happily, I was able to purchase the Mini Tazer for the 4xe which among other things (light show!) gives the Jeep the ability to remember the max regen setting so I don’t have to push that button every time I start the car. Keep the videos coming!
@@kaylaklapperick2406 I drive primarily in electric only mode when doing short errands - hybrid most other times. I guess my driving keeps me close enough to my home that I drive on electric only a lot of the time. That is how my average so far is right around 35. It goes down if I go on a long road trip where I get about 21-22 mpg but then goes up after I took around on electric only. The 49mpge is if you are in hybrid mode with a fully charge battery. I have seen it once shortly after buying the 4xe but it’s not really what you would get unless you are very conservative and always drive with a fully charged battery.
Brandon, I’ve noticed on 4xe forum a lot ppl having issues and fixes usually are resetting fuses and fix problems. Why is this happening and how to get to fuse box to ensure mine are all okay?
I assume wether running in gas or electric mode, the oil life is the same correct? Or does the electric mode bypass the engine to run the car in the way a tesla does?
Seems like a cool concept, but with gas at roughly $3.20 and cost of charge @ $2.00 seems like minimum savings. $1.20 with each charge. With the additional cost of a $1000.00 for a class 2 charger and the additional cost of the vehicle, hard to understand how this saves money. Many buyers no longer qualify for the tax incentives. Additionally, I'm thinking resale will suffer once the vehicle has more than 50,000 miles because buyers will be concerned about a future hybrid battery replacement. If I'm missing something lmk.
Looked at a Purple Wrangler Unlimited (4 door) Rubicon 4xe in the showroom while getting my oil change, the window sticker said $70+K... It looked super nice BUT NOT $70+K nice.
As a master tech for Chrysler I will say check your oil condition at 5k. Too many variables of engine run time to say 5k firm. I would never go over 7k. If the oil is pretty black at 5k change it. Direct injection engine oil gets pretty fuel diluted and dirty over it's port injection counterpart.
Jeremy I agree. But let’s say you have 5000 miles on the vehicle but only 2000 miles on the engine would you still change the oil. I’m assuming the answer would be yes because we technically do not have a way to see how many actual miles are on the engine
@@BrandonHaneline 100% based on the oil condition. To many variables on just mileage. In cold climate the cycles will be rich and dilute the oil faster. Very hot breaks down fast as well. Checking condition is best practice. If you pull the dip stick wipe with a paper towel, golden brown slightly dark ok. Very dark and black, change it.
I agree, I’m a retired jeep master tech also. Love to hear others opinions. 3500 miles on it with 85% oil life left but. I never trusted oil change reminder anyway. Like you said too many variables, engine hours, idle time, fill ups. Ambient temperature..... on and on.
I really wanted to talk crap about it being 17kw and costing 12 cents a kw. I did the math that's about 10 cents a mile while on all electric. My truck cost me around 25 cents when gas was low to almost 40 cents now.
On the noises subject, have you noticed a very loud “compressor” like noise when your engine first gets into gas mode? My JLUR 4xe makes this loud noise and carries higher RPMs for about 60-90 seconds when the engine portion needs to fire up for the first time, and it sounds like some other folks on some forums are hearing the same. Wondering if this is normal or if I should be concerned about the transmission.
IIRC this is normal for the 2.0L engine. It runs a different mix when it starts for the first time to help it warm up. Same thing happens on my 2.0L Cherokee 2018
Great video Brandon, been watching your journey with this vehicle as I'm considering one for myself (currently driving a 2016 Mini Cooper S). I can't believe you worked the tax credit into a lease, I would be thrilled if Michigan offered the same as it would make for an outstanding down payment and make this quite affordable. I've already got the garage set up for charging as we've got a Bolt EV in the household, and since this is such a smaller capacity battery, it'll charge nicely around the Bolt's schedule to top-off. Looking forward to more of your videos, keep up the fine work!
@@BrandonHaneline It's advertised as around 260, but in good weather and regular road driving I'd bet we could squeeze 300 out of it. Granted, that's without a gas engine to fall back on, but that's a LOT of city driving without plugging in. We previously had a Volt here which was rated for about 53 electric miles, which we'd pushed to a best of 70 on a few good days. How many electric miles do you think you can squeeze out of the 4xe electric mode?
The Jeep dealership I went to here in Michigan was able to put the $7,500 credit towards the lease. I'd double check and call your local dealership about it.
@@JulianneRegina Wow no kidding? Would you mind sharing which dealership you worked with? I'm in the Metro Detroit area but knowing that I'd absolutely drive further if I could do the same. Thanks for sharing that info!
Great video! I am currently looking to purchase a 4XE - what leather interior is spec’d on your build sheet? Does it list red stitching? In the video the stitching looks to be grey. Also, were the running boards added as a dealer installed option?
The Rubicon 4xe has blue stitching on the black leather seats only. The brown leather seats are grey. The red stitching is on the normal gas Rubicon when you purchase the black leather seats.
Brandon, Should I be worried about the zillion possible things that can go wrong with just about everything on this?, OR do you think they have it all pretty well thought out. I should be placing my order this week but I'm getting a little bit of cold feet when hearing about all the various, heat, cooling, high voltage this and that, is this Jeep going to be reliable in your opinion???
I have had a Chrysler pacifica PHEV for 30k miles. I have a fried with 100k. Been in the shop for maintenance and radio issues. That’s it. They you some of the same technology in the 4xe. I feel confident that this is a safe, reliable vehicle.
I'm enjoying your videos. Thanks for the work you put into them. My situation: 22-miles commute, one way, 4 days/week. Cheapest gas currently at the $6 handle which, with other trips, puts fuel bill around $120/week. No home charging capability (my HOA has an underground garage, with 117 VAC outlets on the support columns, but the circuits can't take the strain of multiple EVs charging). There is charging at work, but I haven't checked the chargers' compatibility or their availability when I arrive. Off-road capability is a must. The 4xe costs more than the house in the Midwest I'm selling. Would you still recommend it?
I have a Gladiator and I’m wondering if I should get the 4e. I am considering it because of the cost of gas in California and I was offered one in Tuscadero pink Rubicon. What is your opinion?
When I test drove one yesterday, I noticed it seemed to be much faster and more aggressive in 4Auto vs 2H. Have you noticed the same thing? Seemed to me they nerfed power in 2wd maybe to avoid wheel spin idk but 4a was clearly faster. Thoughts?
@@thomaskrutulis2289 I think so. But I leave mine in 4hi auto all the time and still get 28+mpg. Remember in 4high auto max regen is even better than 2wd.
@@BrandonHaneline last question. What is the rear to front split in 4a? Is it full time awd or basically 100% rear and only kicks in front when slip detected? Thx a lot, you’ve been very helpful. I’m eyeing up this gray rubicon 4xe at the moment

Great video. We have a 3.6l Wrangler and Gladiator, we will be replacing the Gladiator later in the year and we’re considering the 4xe. You’ve given us a lot of information to consider.
Thanks so much for the deep dive! I just ordered my 4xe. Can’t wait honestly
With that range I can't complain.
Great video. My wife drove one today and loved it. We will order one very soon.
Awesome. What color??

Nice review! Do you still own this and if so, still like it? How many miles you have on it?
Great Video Man! Loved the way you explained every single detail about the car.
Super helpful video, Brandon! Thanks! *Jeep wave* (2003 Rubicon)

Considering the versatile 4Xe as next vehicle. All PHEV videos should be produced using your template! Kudos!
Thank you!!
I learned alot on this video. Thank you,!!
Remember not all level 2 chargers are equal. Level 2 in the states means 220volt but there are 2 types of 220v. One that does about the 15amps and one that does 30+amps. This still slow when you consider the DC charging at several 100amps.
Great video and presentation! Thanks for the tour and the daily life aspects!
Absolutely my friend. No problem.
Thank you for all your vids on the Jeep Wrangler 4xe. I've learned so much about mine, Thanks to you. Love your drag racing video. ❤️❤️ Bty. To say Thank you. I hooked up with you thru Amazon. Looking forward for more vids.
Awesome!!! Thank you so much. Much appreciated!!
What color did you get?
I got Sting Gray
Nice!!
Was wanting to get a 4XE but could not justify the extra $11,000 over the eTorque, so I went with the eTorque… it should be arriving in the next 5-7 days.
I drive 22 miles to work which also has electric charging stations. I would have to filly gas tank once every month or so. If that. Very cool
@El Tio Its only like $3500 more, but you also get a $7500 tax credit
You're forgetting the value of hybrid mode. My mpg is amazing.
@@vinylstoragesolutions177 That is something I hadn't' t thought of, I was focusing on driving strictly in electric mode.
Just started trying to get one…dealers around here are terrible..just got low balled on my trade because it had a brand new set of tires. Can’t make this stuff up…got to shop out of the area. 🤞
i just drove one of these.. man a lot more comfortable than my tacoma.. lol.. but right now their 65k..
I want one!! Thanks for all the great 4xe videos
Excellent info and overview, thank you!

it only makes sense to consider the oil change on the ENGINE, not the vehicle, yes?
I agree. Just my opinion though. Tire rotation will still need to be every 5-6k
yes you should get one. I love this truck
I have my 4xe already for 1 and half yea(same blue color,awsome)
I am very happy with my car and the purpose of it (working in the Swiss alps )BUT the car have had so many problems...
1.Cricket noise when I was going backwards and braking or going slow over obstacles-->Jeeps brake factory problem. The dealer didn't even know but at the end made a thermal treatment and problem solved.(I got a rubicon as a courtesy car with 2k miles and it has the same problem lol)
2.Water leaks. With heavy rain i always find the carpets wet , don't even know where the water is coming from.--> solution ,nothing ,they said to me is a common problem.
4.warings about electric mode not available
3. Engine light on after electric mode not avaliable, cabin cooling or heating....-->got it a few days ago.Daler gave me the appointment in 2 weeks....
I statically love the car but it has always so many problems.
Great video
This video needs an update after the recalls. Has Jeep corrected all the issues and are 2023 worth buying?
Well kiddies if you plan to plow snow several months a year AND have a hybrid that can pull good size trailers AND travel safely in severe winter, this really makes sense ... plow snow in morning, recharge 2 hours with 220V charger, then go get groceries and run errands at mid-day, back home and recharge and plow snow again as needed ... places like UP of MI, WI, Pennsylvania and New England States, etc. where there is ALSO off-road hunting and fishing trails with possible lots of mud, woodlands where, uh, the firewood is, etc. Me want one.
And the fuel of gas and units of waruls and stuff
I think it's only the blue saharas that don't have the blue tow hooks! Every other color does.
Very nice review! Great work.
Thank you!
on my 2023 I don't have to keep turning on the max regen button. Once I turned it on, it will stay on til I turn it off even after restarting the car.
I hear ya brother. Your right the Jeep Wrangler is not in the safe zone in the crash testing area.
@@ggolds5 what was the survival rate for driver and passengers?
Great video, I tried that car and it was amazing. Looking forward to buying it.
What color would you choose?
@@BrandonHaneline White. :)
PS. the cost of KWH in Connecticut is 22.69. I think its the highest in the country next to Hawaii.
wtf... What explains that?
Holy matrimony!! That’s dumb. How much is water.
@@BrandonHaneline A lot. However, the advantages still outweigh the costs. For instance. A teacher in South Carolina average salary is around $32,000 from what a friend of ours told us. A teacher in CT averages around $64,000. Overall, it's all about knowing how to balance finances.
True!!
Top info from you thanks from Switzerland

Thank you David. 😊
Super informative and in-depth, thank you!!
Glad you enjoyed!!

If you park and take a nap how much mpgs idling with ac?
The Jeep should let you know when you should change your oil. It should calculate your averages regarding e drive vs. gas drive and recommend when you should change your oil.
Love your video! Thank you so much
You most welcome!!
When I had my Ford Cmax hybrid I changed the oil when the car told me to...which was about every 10,000 miles on the odometer.
Is it safe for the kids to be sitting on a high voltage battery like that? I'm gonna wait to see if there are any recalls
None yet!!
Man….excellent!
Thank you.
What mode did you have it in to get the 35mpg? Curious how they actually get to the 49mpge
@@mkounalis Awesome thank you
The hybrids are meant to be electric in the driveway, start- Stops only so above 10 miles it s fine
Yes
18:40 what if someone unplug the charge while you are shopping 😭😭😭
Well II wouldn’t be too happy
You can actually get a small padlock to put on it
@@BrandonHaneline According to you which one is better choice Jeep Wrangler ultimate Rubicon or Jeep Wrangler 4XE???
Rubicon 4xe would be the best!
Thanks for the info dude.
Your most welcome!!
Id just change the oil once a year.
Not a bad idea. Depending of the mileage you drive.
Looked at a Purple Wrangler Unlimited (4 door) Rubicon 4xe in the showroom while getting my oil change, the window sticker said $70+K... It looked super nice BUT NOT $70+K nice.
Change those tires to off-road and let us know what mileage one can expect.

Ambient temperature..... on and on.
Hi Brandon,Is it possible to get your mailbox to work together?
I really wanted to talk crap about it being 17kw and costing 12 cents a kw. I did the math that's about 10 cents a mile while on all electric. My truck cost me around 25 cents when gas was low to almost 40 cents now.
Can’t wait for the gladiator 4xE
I know right!!
I would say it’s normal. Unless it gets worse over time. I think this a is normal operation noise.
Thanks Nick. What’s the range on your Bolt EV?
That’s awesome!! Yes please check your local dealer for details.

Sahara has grey stitching. Rubicon and high altitudes as blue stitching.
Running boards was a factory option.
The running boards come standard on the Sahara no matter what powertrain it's equipped with
The Rubicon 4xe has blue stitching on the black leather seats only. The brown leather seats are grey. The red stitching is on the normal gas Rubicon when you purchase the black leather seats.
You are correct!! I forgot to mention that.
Are you using regular or premium gas? Here at my station (5-17-22) reg is $4.35 premium: $4.85 a gallon.
That’s what warranty is for
I have had a Chrysler pacifica PHEV for 30k miles. I have a fried with 100k. Been in the shop for maintenance and radio issues. That’s it. They you some of the same technology in the 4xe. I feel confident that this is a safe, reliable vehicle.
@@BrandonHaneline Thank you. I'm ordering one. You said above you have a ? with 100K.
Brandon I’ve read so many reviews reporting sky 1 touch top leaks ? Any problems with yours ?
It seems that Jeep changed the warranty for 22. The hybrid and high voltage is now 8 years with 100,000 miles. Any idea why?
When I test drove one yesterday, I noticed it seemed to be much faster and more aggressive in 4Auto vs 2H. Have you noticed the same thing? Seemed to me they nerfed power in 2wd maybe to avoid wheel spin idk but 4a was clearly faster. Thoughts?
Oh yes 4hi auto is much faster it is tuned different then 2wd even the engineers will tell you this. From my they change the throttle response
Have you seen my dragracing video? I did that in for high auto
Is 2H just for best range n efficiency only then? Less power less traction I’m wondering what the point is
@@thomaskrutulis2289 I think so.
