      I'm loving mine! I don't drive much so only about 350 miles but with my driving pattern I should get 550 or so per tank ⛽ It's a little quirky but can't wait to see how it does off-road.

    Two things I said I'd never do.
    1.) Buy a Jeep
    2.) Buy a new vehicle
    Bought the Sahara 4xe Saturday! One of the best hybrids out there because they decided to just take the vehicle and add electric to it and not just turn the Jeep into an egg like other hybrid or electrics. As for #2 my new car depreciation was mitigated with the $7,500 tax credit.
    BTW, I LOVE IT!!!

    The reason the fuel door is locked is because there’s pressure built up in the gas tank if the jeep was not fueled in a while (daily commute using only electric, no long trips). You will also notice that when you open the fuel door from the inside, it takes few seconds to actually open so it can despresurizar if that’s the case.

    • @EPIC-4WD
      @EPIC-4WD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

  • @alexmaclean1
    @alexmaclean1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    For the fuel door this is done on pretty much every hybrid vehicle, because you may go an extended time between putting gas in plug in hybrids there can be excessive pressure in the tank. By making you press the button it tells the system to vent before you open it. In some cases is will open almost instantly and others it can take up to a couple seconds before it will open.

      Hey! Anything's possible! ;-)

    • @Wrangler4XEFans
      @Wrangler4XEFans 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      So technically speaking, the high voltage battery is connected to the DC to DC converter that provides 12 volts to the low voltage side. All the power flow comes from the high voltage battery. So from that perspective, if you connect to the 12 volt system, it is feeding off the high voltage battery. That's going to be the best way to go about it. If anyone connects to the 400 volt battery, that voltage is going to have to be converted anyway. So might as well use the equipment that's already in place. There's nothing designed to handle 400 volts DC. It wold hammer the warranty anyway.

    • @jfloydsea
      @jfloydsea 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Wrangler4XEFans There's also a standard 12v battery in there as well though. Does it always charge off the 400v drive battery?

    Great video! Now, the big question is would the EPIC crew given the choice buy the 4XE over the gas counterparts?

    • @EPIC-4WD
      @EPIC-4WD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Mr C1ph3r. We would buy a 4XE as a hybrid commuter vehicle that can go off-road on the weekends. It's a blast to drive. Due to the extra battery weight and the limited electric range, we would hesitate to recommend this platform for an overlander that wants to load up the vehicle with lots of gear, roof top tent, etc and head out for days into the backcountry. All depends on what you want to do with it. The EcoDiesel platform is simply insane and delivers crazy torque 100% of the time, as long as your fuel tank is full ;-)

    • @davidcarrico3385
      @davidcarrico3385 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@EPIC-4WD totally agree with statement of the 4xe vs Diesel for overlanding (and I’m a 4xe owner) until they update the 4xe in a few ways (either with some factory updates or options), but I do want to point out that the 470 lb of torque is virtually there the whole time (you seemed to imply that it is no longer available after the battery is depleted). The 4xe keeps 15% battery in reserve for a couple of reasons and one of those is so it can give that torque boost when needed(that 15% is also the easiest to charge back). It replenishes that 15% from the engine and from regenerative braking. Sure if you were pull 470 lb constantly you probably can deplete that before it can replenish, but that doesn’t happen in the vast majority of cases. A good test would be to wheel it straight up an obstacle strewn mountain with the battery already “depleted” and see how it handles it, something you are in a good position to test 🙂, and would be a great video as well. Also, great build.

    Always love your videos, but had to go back to this one with a new 4xe order made. Watching it gave me 2 questions;
    1. I previously put in a TerraLex High Angle CV kit on my JK to make up for the clearance on my front DS. Is this something you guys researched for the 4xe vs a new DS?
    2. I'm a little confused about the lift height, in the description you have it listed as a 2.5" lift, yet the Terraflex spacers seemed to be 3", then on a comment below you mention that you can't lift it higher then 2" due to E-brake set up.
    I'll probably be getting in contact with you guys next year about a lift quote.

Don't see the real point of going somewhere and waiting for a charge when the thing can run in gas mode and hybrid mode. Can you add 37s on a sahara with this lift? Or will i have to figure out a 3.5inch lift some how to make it work. I know the rubi has the high fenders but i seen people using a 2inch lift with 37s on the rubi so 2.5 thats almost adding the high fenders hieght right for a sahara model?

    • @EPIC-4WD
      @EPIC-4WD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll need flat fenders to do 37s on a Sahara with this lift. At the moment, there is no way to lift the vehicle more than 2" because of the unique 4XE e-brake setup (it exits the vehicle farther back, and is already at a harsh angle).

    • @EPIC-4WD

      The 4XE is a heavy Jeep. Adding more weight for gear and people will require a proper suspension setup. Feel free to give us a call to discuss 604-888-2961.

    How is the consumption with The bigger tires and lift? Mileage in only electric mode and consumption. I think that stock has a correct / acceptable autonomy, but with lift and biggest Tires it’s canceled

      Nope sorry. We just had it made up by a local drive shaft shop. Any drive shaft place can measure up the lengths required. It's just a custom-length 1310 Double Cardan with a new yolk at the t-case.

    • @EPIC-4WD
      @EPIC-4WD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any driveshaft shop should be able to measure and make you up a 1310 shaft. We found that the Rubicon and Sahara 4XE front shafts are actually different lengths ;-) We just have them custom made at a local driveline shop to our specs.

    • @EPIC-4WD
      @EPIC-4WD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey CJ - we only had the Jeep in the modified state for a few days, but we'd say the larger tires/lift didn't do anything recognizable to the range. I'm sure it probably lost a mile or two in the all-electric range category ;-)
