    I drove a stock '23 4xe around Olympic in Washington, up and down the mountains about 1000 miles and averaged 25.5 miles per gallon in hybrid. Never had a place to plug it in. Re-gen charging was all I had to utilize. On the Highway I was able to get 26.4mpg. The hybrid system on these are awesome!

    I too love my 4xe, 2022 model and I bought it in April 2024, I have now had it for 5 months and put 15,000 kms on it with no issues, absolutely love it. I too would love a Gladiator 4xe, maybe one day

      Glad to hear! We still have about 7 months left with our 22 4xe. Hoping incentives will come back up and we can get another one, or possibly a gladiator 4xe if they are out in time. I haven’t heard any updates on gladiator 4xe so not sure if it’s still coming. But, I do know the Jeep Recon full battery electric is coming in 25 so that is another option if it’s not super expensive

      Have 37s on it, RockTrix wheels, and a bunch of other small mods.

      @scottpretopapa7026 it might just need an update. Ours has done that before and time to time usually when it’s colder out but when we take it in for oil change and they flashed updates it took care of it. Join the Facebook Jeep 4xe group. I am Wrangler shopping and a numbers nerd. It takes conservatively the first 16,000 miles to break even with a charger install, and the delta between the cost of a gallon of gas and the cost of electric for a charge.

      Nice! We got lucky our garage already had a 220 outlet for my welder so was able to use that.
      For me it wasn’t fuel savings, it was the extra 100 horsepower and torque of the 4xe vs the regular turd drivetrain. Being able to chirp all 4 37s is awesome. And actually having passing power on the expressway is very welcome .

    Hi, great video 👍and I don't want to disappoint anybody, but I need to tell our story about this car.
    We have our Wrangler Rubicon (2022) for about 26 months now. It’s my wife car. She is in love with this model and in Belgium you can only buy the hybrid model new. We live in Belgium, no rough terrain, just our street is muddy over 1 mile when it rains. So no off-road adventures done.
    It drives great, when it is not in the garage for repair.
    After 1.5 year (about 6.000miles) the aft RH brake caliper seized. (Again, never driven in very muddy conditions or rough terrain.)
    Around the same time, airco inoperative >> broken wire.
    Also, it rains inside on the driver and passenger side. Always wet under the floor mat when it is parked in the rain.
    Now after about 2 years (10.000 miles) the famous death wobble around 60 miles/hour (Again, never driven in very muddy conditions or rough terrain.) >> steering shock absorber replaced and checked alignment. (JEEP advice)
    And now since about 3 months the car shakes from left to right at stand still and makes a metal sound. It feels like it wants to shift gear, but doesn’t. It doesn’t shake the same every day, sometimes a bit less or more. In electric mode or engine running, park, rev, neutral or drive position, doesn’t matter. It seems to come from the gearbox. The car went to the dealer, and they changed the wire loop to the electric motor in the gearbox (recommended by JEEP) It didn’t fix it. The car stayed at the dealer for 4 weeks, awaiting a solution from JEEP. No result until now. We picked it up 2 days ago (they wanted their free rental cat back). No problem driving it but shacking Steven is still with us 🙄
    They await another solution from JEEP and are aiming for the gearbox (really?). So there will be a big chance that they need to replace the complete gearbox…to be continued…
    We are very disappointed as it is not a cheap car (around €70.000 here) and we already have issues as which make it look a 15-year-old car. (Again, never driven in very muddy conditions or rough terrain.)
    So far my advice is, look up (we didn’t) what issues u can expect on forums even if you buy it a new one.

    Our 2022 is at 34k miles. I’ve not been impressed with Jeep’s dealers but the vehicle has met expectations. It has had a couple minor warranty claims and some recalls, to where I’m considering the extended warranty. But with the electric side covered to 100k we’ll probably roll the dice. It’s not my old 4Runner, for better and worse.
    The warranty claims: front locker switch stuck in the “locked” position even when unlocked. TrailRecon had the same failure. The steering stabilizer got replaced due to death wobble. And a windshield replacement. Stuff you’d not need a dealer visit to fix in the later years.
    We intend to keep it around a while.

      Yeah if you can get a 220v outlet to be able to charge, it’ll fully recharge from empty in about 2 hours. So for my wife she can take kids to school and grocery shop and recharge by the time they are out of school and run some more errands, so you can do 50ish miles or more in a day if it’s spread out.

    What I like most about the 4xE it’s fast, I test drove one and it was in hybrid mode and I really liked it it was fun I didn’t care about the fuel economy I just like that it was fast, so my question is let’s say you drive it all the time in hybrid mode and don’t care about charging the battery or driving it in electric does it stay fast like that all the time? I don’t understand hybrids how they work the whole set up kinda scares me because I do a lot of backcountry travel deep in the wilderness and I’d be terrified of something happening and being stuck out there with no cell phone reception etc. also I have a small modified off-road teardrop trailer I’m wondering how something like that would tow a trailer that’s about 1500 pounds, it feels like it has a ton of power but I would assume it would mostly run in engine mode and probably get about 8 miles per gallon if you’re lucky I don’t know?

    • @PeakPerformanceEngineering
      @PeakPerformanceEngineering  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We bought ours purely for the performance too! That extra 100hp makes it a fun ride!
      It should always have the power available even when not charging because it never lets the battery completely discharge and regenerative braking helps keep it slightly charged for the power.
      But you’ll probably find like us that plugging it in and being able to drive 25ish miles pure electric is awesome. It’ll then recharge with a 220v charger in 2 hours

    The initial cost of these is insane. They depreciate quickly and I’m looking to pick up a 2022 Rubicon 4Xe with 30k miles for under $35k with the sky one too. • @PeakPerformanceEngineering
      @PeakPerformanceEngineering  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I wouldn’t say they depreciate too badly, remember that people are getting 7500 off for the tax credit so that tanks the used car pricing a bit to accommodate that.
      Also in 2022 the MSRP was thousands cheaper as stellantis kept increasing msrp in 23 and 24.
      Our 21 4xe had a $56k msrp and our buyout after 3 years was around $35k, but we only paid around $47k for it with discounts and tax credit for example.
      Our 2022 was the same spec as 21 but it was a few thousand more due to the price increases.

      Gas mileage is definitely better, as long as you can use a lot of electric. My wife averages in the 20s right now with our 2022 we still have .
      For me the big deal was the horsepower. You have about 100hp extra over a regular jeep with the electric motor. Makes it VERY fun to drive

    As the owner of a 2023 Gladiator, you will become very friendly with your Neighbourhood gas station. They are pigs on gas. Unless you want the styling, you should have just paid out your lease and bought the 4xe. I hope Jeep up dates the Gladiator with some sort of electrification. I love my Gladiator, but its expensive to run.

    This guy is wrong about the MPG. I have a 2023 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4x8 and I have taken it on a number of road trips, and it pretty consistently gets right at 20 MPG for highway use. And if you're willing to drive 65 mph, then you're going to get more like 24 MPG. If you're going to drive 75 mph, then you're going to get around 18 MPG.

      My gladiator Mojave also has 4.10s and 37s and plenty of power for driving around, but maybe if you wanted to tow with it, you might want to do the 4.88s or 5.13s.

      I work for a semiconductor manufacturer selling into the automotive industry.
      But the reason we were able to get these was because they were pretty cheap early on. Both this 2021 and our 2022 have around $60k msrp and the lease was only $410/month with only first months payment due.
      However when I was now looking at 2024s a few months ago, the leases had skyrocketed to 700-800 month for same vehicle. This is why I ended up just buying a leftover 23 gladiator Mojave since they had nice discounts of around $14k off msrp.

    MPGe is the electric mileage when it's in full electric mode. Has nothing to do with the MPG you can expect to get when it's in hybrid or full ICE modes. It's unfortunate that this is such a confusing # for folks who aren't used to what MPGe stands for. And it shouldn't come as a surprise that 49MPGe is on the very low end of MPGe for cars, it is a Jeep after all!

    Maybe a dumb question but does it charge the battery at all if you don’t plug it in? I know it has regen braking but will it still have the acceleration and torque if you never charge it? • @PeakPerformanceEngineering
      @PeakPerformanceEngineering  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes even when it goes to zero for battery, it will still actually be saving some electricity for the extra power boost when going full throttle.
      In my experience though here in Michigan, I have never seen the regenerative braking be enough to actually charge up the battery back to 1% or more.

      I saw that, but it’s still a bit high for a Willy’s compared to what we got these rubicons for. Our red 22 4xe is due back in April so we are within 6 months for early turn in so I’m watching it carefully for deals. Just seems right now all the incentives are on the Willy’s/sports.

      @PeakPerformanceEngineering  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep we could have bought it. It didn’t make quite make sense though, the buyout was about the same price as my brand new gladiator Mojave, so made sense to go brand new for the same money. Getting almost $15k off MSRP was a good deal. Even now 6 months later my Mojave is still worth around the $40k I paid if I wanted to sell it right now.
      Our 22 rubicon 4xe goes back in May, so we’ll have to see what the market looks like at that time whether we buy it or get something else.

    I just turned one of these 4xe's back in to Enterprise after 3 weeks. I would never own one of these. Terrible gas mileage. A fully charged battery will get you about 20 miles. After that, you are using gas with a very heavy vehicle. I do like the 2 liter turbo engine, though. Very peppy.

    • @PeakPerformanceEngineering
      @PeakPerformanceEngineering  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s accurate to however they measure that driving mix, but it’s misleading. It would assume a lot of pure EV driving with a lot of charging. Think of it this way. If you only ever drove 25 miles or less on a full charge, you could theoretically run EV the whole time and achieve huge MPG. The reality is that sometimes you could forget to charge or maybe need to drive more, and the more you rely on the gas engine, the more it pulls down the MPG.
      The additional horsepower though is amazing and for a heavy wrangler with big tires it’s still doing great.
      My 23 gladiator on the same 37s only manages 14-16mpg.

      My numbers were probably a little lower than actual since I didn’t have a tazer to account for the 35s, maybe 5-7% off.
      But I’d say if you’re seeing 24, that’s still taking into account a lot of the all electric driving.
      Example being when I would drive to Chicago from Detroit and back for work which is 600ish miles round trip, it would drop right down to 18ish because at that point it’s basically a gas vehicle, your only doing 25 miles of the 600 on electric.
      I also drive 80mph usually which doesn’t help, but here in Detroit area 80mph is commonplace.
