Over the last few months, the Sony 1000XM3 have been the go to ANC headphones for most people. Now the Bose QC35’s are still a decent pair of headphones because of their superior build quality and comfort over the 1000XM3’s… But over all the 1000XM3’s still came out on top because of their added features and better performance. But now, we have the all new Bose NC 700’s… Let's see if Bose is able to reclaim their crown from Sony.

The NC is slightly better on the 1000XM3 but both are very good. I own both headphones. I personally feel the nc700 is much more comfortable. The sony M3 earspace is really less and if I wear it for a long time, it kinda hurts. While the nc700 is really spacious. About sound. The sony m3s do cancel out all the noise, but it maybe risky because it doesn't detect a lot of sound. The sense engine in sony really sucks. When you're sitting, it would change 3 or 4 times and a sound may come which disturbs the music. That ain't the case in the nc700. Also I really liek the button in nc700 that controls the noise cancellation. Switch off and on is really easy, it's just one press. While the M3s have a long press. Overall, I like the nc700 more

  • @electriceyeslide5959

Nice review... That said, I disagree with you on a few things. #1) I own both of these headphones myself and I can tell you they’re different tools for different things. Bose tunes their ANC for airplanes and that means “In-Flight” where Bose aims to knock out low frequency drone. The Sony’s sound terrific on a plane as well and block all frequencies out nicely, but the low end goes to Bose. I do agree though that Sony does an amazing job at blocking out the highs and entire frequency range. The ANC on the NC700s is incredibly good, I mean scary can’t hear you talking right next to me good. Having compared them, the NC700s actually have SLIGHTLY better ANC for flying. #2) The Bose have better sound detail than the Sony but I think the Sony’s sound better, fuller, and richer. Bose made their name on sound accuracy and reproduction at an affordable price. The Sony’s have much better base response and dynamic range but the sound clarity and detail just can’t be touched by the Sony’s. The “tunability” of the Sony’s is just hands down better and Sony doesn’t give you stupid excuses like Bose that you’ll damage your headphones if you use an EQ with them. #3) The Sony’s sound like pure SHIT on a phone calls and the NC700s sound incredible. If you’re looking to buy one or the other, I would say it like this. If you’re an audiophile looking for reproduction (you probably have a set of $20K headphones so these headphones are pure shit to you, LOL), then the Bose are better from a purely technical perspective I think. If you let your ears guide you, the Sony’s just sound so much fuller and so much more live that the very vast majority of people are going to go with the Sony’s for sound quality. If you need to fly, go with the Bose. If you want to use your headphones for work, go with the Bose. If you’re a music lover and just want awesome sound, go with the Sony’s. Lastly, I completely agree that the overall differences here are subtle enough that there is no clear winner and I can appreciate picking either over the other. - Tom

I want an ambient mode that let’s me hear every type of sound. For me, the whole point of an ambient mode is to give me complete situational awareness when I activate it. I want to hear sirens, dogs, and every other sound around me if I’m on foot outdoors.
If I don’t want to hear all those sounds, I can chose from 10 different levels of ANC on the NCH 700 to cancel out the precise amount of sound that I want eliminated. I can also easily cycle between my 3 favorite ANC level presets with the push of a button.

Just ****ing charge your headphones at night. It's not that hard ffs. 20 hours is longer than you will be awake in a day. Unless you're driving across the United States without spending a night in a hotel, or flying half way around the world, further battery life is only useful so you don't have to pop in a charger once every other day. There comes a point where improvements on battery are useless. 20 hours is past that point.

Sometimes I also like to have my conference calls out at a park or cafe rather than sitting inside my office. The Bose will work very well for me and I’m looking forward to them being on sale here.

    MY review:
    Pros:
Aspects of a good headset: Comfort, sound quality of music, sound quality of call, BT connection, Multipairing ability, Noise Cancelling, looks/design, ease of transport.
    1. BT connection is seamless and fast on a samsung Galaxy Note 8. Both first connection and second reconnection. Also a simultaneous BT connection with my PC windows 10 absolutely no issue. All you need to do is click on the BT button, within seconds, wait for it to tell you that it is waiting for the next pairing, pair it, and voila.
    2. Voice call quality is the best I ever tested. On this 10/10. Although when you speak you do not hear yourself well specially if ANC is on.
    3. Music sound is clean and the bass is good and full. I think it is a 8/10 on sound quality. However, it lacks this ‘stadium/immersive effect’ and you do not feel that you are immersed. Am sure Sony has a better sound experience where you feel immersed in the music and it is more punchy. But this Bose is fine. But the Sony gives you a more immersive sound experience and more punch. If your main choice is sound, maybe the Sony xm3 is a better choice ( beware it has no multi pairing mode option, so you can only connect to one BT device which is a big minus point.)
    4. ANC is good. You can distinctly feel the difference between no ANC and full ANC. But it is not going to block all the noise. It is just reduced. Low frequency noises are blocked.
    5. Installs update automatically when you install the Bose Music app. This is very good instead of waiting for the user to look for the update and install manually.
    Cons:
    Edit:
//When utube is run on PC with windows 10, and BT is connected on a Samsung Galaxy Note 8, utube audio on PC keeps breaking. This issue does not happen with my Taotronics which costs 70 Euros. This is clearly unacceptable for a headset from Bose that costs 400 Euros!!! The aspects is the comfort and design. Big minus points. When you lay down on a pillow the headset will simply fall off your head even how much you compact it around your head. This is probably due to the large space between your head and the headset. It is not well fit on the head like previous versions. The design and look is SERIOUSLY bad. Audio will not work from USB C cable. Will also not work during charging, not even with the AUX cable. This means you are stuck with less than 19 hours of battery life. If you cannot charge while on a trip, the headset is unusable. //
1.Charged it overnight and am getting only 17 hours from it. Second full night charging got max 19.5 hours. Not the advertised 20! So in some years this will keep dropping. That is very very poor.
    2. Big Minus Point: Does not connect to BT while charging neither does it work with the aux cable. Also no USB-Audio connection possible. New smartphones may remove the AUX port so this could make it useless if uncharged or if someone has a long trip and cannot charge it etc.
    3. I was listening to music on my phone and when i restart my PC it stops my music and lists for my all the devices connected with long full names and I need to wait to listen to this each time a connection is made. This is very poor design. This should be quicker: say, connected to 2 devices. That’s all. If the user wants to know more details, they check on their app.
    4. Impossible to know where is the OFF function.. Useless manual...no picture illustration inside. They should have a small indication to say which button does what. There is no information ALL all neither on the headset nor in the manuals, or on the box, what those 2 buttons do? Shocking!
    5. Flimsy build..this looks and feels like a 25 Euro headset. It looks like they went for a ‘dirt cheap’ design to make maximum profits. Does not look and feel premium. This is a big minus point. The design is really crap. If Sony had a multi pairing headset with good ANC and good voice call, I would not buy the Bose 700 only due to the very cheap 4. looking design and poor comfort.
    6. Comfort: not good. Very badly designed. The cup is very small and squeezes your ears. Am shocked that after 5 years of research they destroyed what was good. You will feel it after 30 mins.
    7. Ease of transport: not good. I can easily pack a Sony XM3 in pockets of my bag.. But this one you need a larger surface.
    Fazit:
Sadly it is not worth the 400 Euros from a built quality point of view with only some improvements over previous version and significant drop in built quality and comfort. It does not give me complete satisfaction for what I pay for. At this price point my expectations were higher.
Is it worth upgrading from Bose QC 2: only if call audio quality is a priority and accept the deteriorated trag-comfort. If you are prepared to wait, my suggestion is to wait for Sony’s next release before spending 400 Euros. If you cannot wait, I think this is the best overall offer at the moment: call quality, BT connection, decent sound quality.
    Will be updated.

Your 'review' is just a subjective one. " The design and look is SERIOUSLY bad" "The cup is very small and squeezes your ears"

Had a chance to try both of these recently on holiday, I ended up going for bose, i found the bose had the better noise canceling feature in the environment I tried them (mall) I couldn't believe how much they reduced the sound without music playing, once you turned the volume up a little bit I was like watching the world behind sound insulated glass, it was weird.... Both were very comfortable to wear but for longer periods I just felt like the bose were a right fit for my head, plus the sleek design of the bose won me over
The mini version of the 3.5mm jack port on the bose was not a win for me though, unless there is a design or hardware reason for this, I'd like to see that change

Everyone always forgets about the Sony optimizer that really helps adjust anc when on air planes and the way the headphones lay around your ear (for example if you where glasses it adjust for the different seal around your ear). Bose doesn’t have this, there is no personalization on their headphones. If you got Sony’s hold the anc button and the headphones automatically start to optimize. Also the Sony’s sound amazing.

I had the Sony 1000XM3's for 2 weeks and really liked them, but returned them for the Bose NC700. With music the Sony's do sound more engaging and have better bass. If I only wanted music and ANC keep the Sony. However, neither headset is a high-end headset. I encourage anybody who wants the best sound to check out higher-end headsets at a local audio show or high-end electronics showroom that are equal in price or higher. Neither the Sony or the Bose is "high end" and in my opinion are still lacking. In fact, I felt both headsets distorted my music at higher, but reasonable playback volumes. In the end, I chose the Bose NC700 over the Sony for 2 reasons - Bluetooth 5.0 and Noise Canceling for calls. I'm a business traveler and being able to connect to 2 devises is important. Being able to make a call with a person and having the background noise generally quite is VERY important to me. Yes, I liked the Sony better for music but the Bose is what I need. Regarding bass, I just use the equalizer in Spotify to pump the bass. That helps. I actually prefer the ANC setting button for the Bose better than holding my hand over the ear cup on the Sony. Not hard to do. I never really used all the features in the Sony App as well. Bose software is sufficient.

gbarcan ok, I should’ve explained further what I meant. First, it should be said, the Sony headphones seem to be on discount very often now on different websites, just a couple weeks ago on Amazon prime day they were at around 290$, so that makes it already a bigger difference. Then, and this only applies to people outside the US, like me for example. Right now the Bose are not available in my country, that means I have to order from the US. The exchange rate you get is really horrible, plus the tariffs the charge to get it out of the country, I shit you not, you end up paying over 500$. So that’s what I meant by way cheaper.
I wonder how much the Sony’s will cost on Black Friday.

Right out of the box the WH-1000XM3 is way too boomy. The bass is just powering through everything. They are almost Beasts Gen.1 level of boomy. With EQ they handle much better, the problem is how this reduces them to SBC only on anything other than Apple devices. If you are forced into not using the EQ the audio is vastly overrated, the Bose (the QC 35 II as least as I haven't tried the NCH 700) sounds better out of the box. You need to pretty much only listen to hip-pop and rap to be satisfied with the stock sound signature of the WH-1000XM3 in my honest opinion.
Luckily I mostly use Apple devices so I can tune the EQ and still get great connection using AAC. But there are still two major downsides with them, the lack of multipoint is just baffling for such advanced headphones. How did they manage to ignore this feature? Feels so clunky having to re-pair each and every time I move from my iPhone to my iPad. Not to mention how they are useless outside in sub 5 degrees celsius, that's my biggest issue. I basically can't use them outside for like 3 months out of the year where I live, like come on?

  • @jada90
    @jada90 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

So most reviews I've heard basically do what you do; I can't really blame you for it, but you just listed the advertised battery life. But the first NC 700 vs 1000XM3 review I watched, the reviewer actually fully charged both pairs, set their volume to 50%, played the exact same playlist over bluetooth, and the Sony's got a much-lower-than-advertised battery life of about 20 hours; they actually lasted less time than the Bose did. This is really worth pointing out I think. It was just one man's test sure, but why trust the advertised battery life when your real-life usage might prove much different?
Also I want to note, which you did point out in this video, is that the Sony's have smaller ear cups. My ears don't stick out much at all but the Sony's make my ears really sore after just a few hours of wearing, to the point where it's quite painful, an effect that lasts long after I've taken them off. I never had that problem with my Bose QC15s, and I ordered a pair of NC700s because hopefully, as you said, they'll have those bigger ear cups that I can wear for longer.

I got a big head and the 700’s are fine. Ive tried the Sonys and don’t like how bassy everything sounds. The Bose are right down the middle for me and nothing (so far) compares to the microphones on calls, not even my airpods. If i want some real detailed music sound I pop in my Sennheiser TW earbuds and rock on. Good review!

    • @RamGuy459
