    I think it's a good thing that the bose ambient sound doesn't block any loud noises. Sometimes it's the loud noises that you would hear when someone wants to warn you etc.

    Good review! One comment is that there is a lot of bad press on the fact that the NC700 has a "bigger" case than Sony, Jabra and the QC-35 due to the fact that they do not fold up. However - the NC 700 also has a "slimmer" case so I find that they fit in my bag more easily that a shorter but thicker case. I prefer the NC 700 taller but slimmer case. Also the touchpad control was a controversial addition agreed but Bose really did it right as they have a smaller and much more accurate surface than on my Sony XM3 Headphones. With the Sony my motions are frequently resulting in a different and incorrect action from what I intended where as on the NC 700 it has so far been 100% accurate.

    I was in the market for a new headphone after my jaybird X2 finally capped out: Bose QC35ii ($300), Sony XH1000m3 ($300) and Bose NC 700 ($400). I tried on all and bought the NC700 because it's a much higher build quality than all of them, USBC, and because it's the newest. Sound is reasonably good... Not as good as the Sony M3 but good enough. The Sony M3 had a very cheap build/feel and my ears would sweat on the ear cups. The bose QC35ii are fantastic but the design is a bit old and bulky...the NC700 makes the other headphones look 1-2 generations behind in my opinion. That's why I've always avoided headphones (over earbuds) until now.

    U cant stop the loud ‘siren noise’ bc noise cancelling headphones work by matching the hertz of the external noise meaning one constant noise is very easy to block out (like an airplane jet) but as a siren is a sudden change in hertz (and not constant) meaning its impossible to block out (please like so he can see this thx)

    This is an outstanding review. The best I have heard and influential in my buying decision. The only inaccuracy in the review, which I am sure was inadvertent, was the statement that the ability to use an ambient mode is a brand new feature for Bose NC headphones. It’s not the QC35 II have this feature available if you configure the button on that headphone to modulate the NC level. Obviously the ambient mode is much more sophisticated on 700s. I own the QC35s Series 1, and I have been satisfied with them except for the inability to turn off of lower NC. My girlfriend says she can’t get my attention when I’m am enveloped in full 100% NC. So I purchased the 700s which with tax come to about $440.00. As soon as I put them on, I noticed the clamping issue. In particular, the 700s put more pressure on the top of one’s head, probably because the frame is stainless steel rather than plastic. The headphones are also somewhat ungainly and I have to continually readjust them. The lack of hard buttons for volume control and pause is a significant downgrade. There is always going to be an error rate in using a touchpad that you can’t see. There is a reason that lack of volume controls have been such a polarizing issue in cars and many manufacturers such as Honda have had to bring them back. Even Apple has volume control buttons on the iPhone. It simply takes longer to carry about basic functions and the instability to move the volume up more than one step at a time is a significant annoyance. The 700s do have less “cabin pressure”. But to me the downgrade in comfort overall outweighs the reduction in cabin pressure. The music quality and NC quality of these headphones is very similar. These two factors and comfort and the key ones for me. It is true that Bose has made a major breakthrough in reducing the noise surrounding the person speaking so the person on the other hand hears the speaker with unprecedented clarity. No headphones can touch the 700s in this respect. If that is your primary decision metric, by all means, go with the 700s. Here’s what I did. I am returning my 700s to Bose with their no ?s ask policy. I purchased the QC35 series II for about $240 delivered through a gray market dealer I found in a Google search. That’s about 55% of the price of the 70s. My series 1 will fetch about 150 on EBay at a minimum. This will give me the ambient mode I need to keep the peace in the house. Also according to the GYMCADDY, the QC35 IIs sound better w/the NC off so I might try that. Thanks again for the great review, on that is more nuanced and informative that those on CNET, the Verge and other 800 lb gorilla online sources.

      @antoinep9733 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Richard Barg First time I’ve read a comment that IS a review, thanks for taking the time. I think what a lot of people want is an incrementally improved QC35, slimmer modernised styling (but don’t change it too much, it’s aged well), better NC and sound quality, and USB C. Basically what I was expecting with the QC35II 😹

    • @RichardBarg
      @RichardBarg 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ezugo Obuekwe Both have ambient modes. Ambient mode simply means the relative absence of noise cancellation. Both QC35s have a high, low and off setting. The vary the amount of outside (ambient) noise that can be heard. The series II has a physical button that can do this vs. an app. The 700s have the same physical button for high, low an off, but also have a 11 gradations in the app.

    • @RichardBarg
      @RichardBarg 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ezugo Obuekwe Bose states on its website, “
      “slightly better noise cancelling than QC35 II while also allowing you to transition from full isolation to full transparency” - Full transparency is a marketing slogan. Since Bose, unlike Sony and some of other other manufacturers, doesn’t manipulate the sound being “piped in” also known as “adaptive” noise cancellation, they are simply offering 11 NC modes from having maximum NC to no NC other than the passive NC of the headphone body itself. In others words, full transparency is a gimmick. Some reviewers have said there is some NC going on even at Level 1 on the 700s, but those commentators just drank the Bose kool-aid. As a practical matter, most users won’t bother to cycle thru all 11 of those modes, which requires you to open the app. Doing so takes time. The Bose app takes several seconds to “connect” each time. Most people are going to use the dedicated button on the headphones which offers exactly the same functionality - Full - Half (5/6 on 700s or None. Whatever the difference is at the no NC setting, it is de minimus) as the QC35 IIs. The original also QC-35s also offer this three step NC variability, but only thru the app. Having 11 modes is overkill in any case (Paradox of Choice). Essentially, what you get with the 700s is a heavier headphone (by 1/2 ounce) which can be held in the stainless steel headband, ie more pressure on the top of your head and a less intuitive user interface (UI) making the user experience (UX) worse. Plus the 700s have a tighter fit which this reviewer has referred to as clamping. It affects all head sizes. The reviewer also stated that once the QC35s are on you forget about the “set it and forget it” vs. the 700s which you need to regularly adjust. This was exactly my experience. I also don’t find the addition of a Voice Asst button very useful. It just takes too long to wait several seconds for the beep prompt and then say “back 30 seconds” and then wait another 2 seconds. I can do that with my Apple Watch app in 1 second flat.

    • @RichardBarg
      @RichardBarg 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once I realized that the original QC35s offered three levels of NC through the app on the iPhone, I cancelled my order for the QC35s which have the dedicated button. It wasn’t worth $240.00 simply to get that button. When my current QC35s die, I will cross that bridge. Bose doesn’t seem like they want to discontinue them anytime soon.

    • @RichardBarg
      @RichardBarg 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ezugo Obuekwe Not really. I was correctly something I said in my original comment that no longer held true. " I purchased the QC35 series II for about $240 delivered through a gray market dealer I found in a Google search."

    I had them for a couple months and then I had to replace due to their update bug (was impossible to turn them on).
    Now the replacement I have constantly fails to connect. The headphones keep connecting and disconnecting from devices and announcing amount of battery left and what they are connected/disconnected to infinitely (or up until I switch off bluetooth on my PC & phone and manually connect them one-by-one). To get them properly connected I need their shitty app that fails to find the headphones, even though my phone is already using them (had same problem, just less annoying even before the replacement).
    They are just absolutely terrible! They keep on failing at the very first step - connecting to a device via bluetooth!

    I have a pair of 700's. Overall I like them, here are my 4 main cons:
    1) Your ears get very hot wearing them over time; I'm on the phone constantly and usually have ear buds in most the day. It would be tough for me to wear these for several hours.
    2) When using the assistant or having ANC off, your voice sounds very robotic
    3) When paired with 2 devices, I received a lot of choppy audio while listening to a video on my PC and then my playing a game (with sound) on my phone. No audio from my phone came in, however it clearly affected the 700s and made the audio choppy (cut out) a fair amount
    4) When paired with 2 devices, it's not possible to easily/manually flip between the 2 sources. IE: Using my previous example, it wouldn't be possible for me to flip to phone audio unless I 1st stopped every bit of sound coming from my PC (the other source). I wish the was some manual source toggle on the 700's themselves.

    For those worried about the headband clamping force, out of the box, it is an issue. I was not happy the first day I owned them because, for $400, I want comfortable headphones. But, I’ve left mine stretched out over a box overnight 3 nights in a row, and now they’re very comfortable. It’s still not quite as comfortable as the QC35, but definitely more comfortable than the Sony 1000xm3.
    I feel like I have to throw a disclaimer in here. If you decide you want to stretch your pair out in the same manner, be careful. Don’t overstrain the headband. Just like anything else, it does have a breaking point. Just use some common sense. I’m not responsible if you damage your headphones.

    You mention a few times that they have 'nice big ear cups' but I have the NC 700's and the QC35ii and my ears do not fit into the ear cups on the NC 700 and they do on the QC 35ii. That fact combined with the clamping force of the NC 700's does create a tight seal directly to the ear (or my ear at least), it also creates a very warm and uncomfortable fit that I can't really have on for that long. The seal to the ear and the clamping force probably accounts for the 'small' differences in audio quality as well as small difference in noise cancellation and probably impacts audio quality similarly. To my ears, there is zero difference in audio quality, and noice cancellation. All the improvements they did make such as USB-C and swipe controls I wish and hope they would do on the next version of the QC35's. My NC700's are on their way back to Bose. Never expected that when i ordered them!

    The reason the ambient mode doesn't catch loud noises is it's literally pass thru and not processed like on the sony and many others which is also why on those you get an audio delay and artificial noises. I can't carry on a conversation with most ambient modes due to the processing delay.

    Everyone has their own opinions on what they like better but the 700s are the best headphones hands down the noise cancelling is the best and the phone call quality is the best the phone call quality on the Sony’s sucks if you add all the features on the 700s the Sony’s pail in comparison I would put the 700s at #1 the QC 35s # 2 and the Sony’s #3.

    I don’t know if you guys aware of this, but Bose secretly released a new batch of 700s with less clamping force. If you pair them with your phone even the model name will be different. The new one is Bose NC 700 HP
    It is a lot more comfortable pair due to its less clamping force. As far as I know they produced from 2019 August onwards.

    I like to keep them next to me to play white noise, etc. and put them on while in bed when these people above me get up at 5am. Also when they lift weights it's 10pm at night. Super noise cancelling I think is fabulous but I'm not expert. Just need to know how to turn these off and on and connect to perhaps ONE device at a time? ON the i phone? I have I phone 11.

    The Bose are way more practical headphone. I have both them and Sony. Bose , better for phone calls, better build quaint, better noise canceling. Nice pitching base and clear sounding. Fit mor snug then QC 35 ii. Bust just as comfortable. More features to come with future updates like equalizer. These headphones will just get better and better.

    • @payperview714
      @payperview714 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      no, it has less sound leakage. Probably because of the combination of clamping force and the fact your ears (or mine at least ) do not fit in the ear cups and the NC 700's seal tightly to the ear, making them leak less sound and contain more heat. SO much so, that I returned them for that reason alone.
