The Bose has better ANC and call quality hands down - I disagree with your conclusion. I have used the Bose 700s in an very noisy open office and its call quality is unparalleled. If they been this price before, they have a good chance to go there again 👍
I must say my personal experience with both was that the Bose are better at isolating my voice from others on calls. The Sony is great at background noises but not other human voices. Sitting in the same room as someone else on a call the Bose was much better. Audio quality I rate the Sonys out of the box but once you tweak the EQ the Bose has the win. I find the Bose significantly more comfortable also. Ended up returning the XM5’s! Not enough in it to make me upgrade.
Brilliant review, exactly what I needed. Thanks! and wow, Sony cleaned their act for the phone call quality (as compared to Xm4 and xm3 which were so bad in that aspect)
Additional question: On a side note, in the mean time, I could try very quickly one XM5 yesterday (i could not at all test in depth). While i was extremely pleased with call quality, I was very-very-very disappointed by the ANC. It worked brilliantly on a steady state, but seems to re-initialize when a sudden movement of my head or a sudden sound change happened. It looks like the "auto ANC/ ANC optimizer" is simply not able to cope with sudden changes, and one cannot disable it (in other words, the headphone chooses the ANC level without asking me, while I would like to have it at its max setting all the time). Have you had such a behaviour, or was it only the pair tested? If confirmed, that's -unfortunately- an absolute deal breaker.
Strangely someone said my background is very noisy when I'm doing a call with the XM5 at MacDonalds with their background music pounding...maybe XM5 is weak in cancelling music background?
I have issues with my XM5’s. I came from Bose QC 35’s and just wanted something new and better voice quality. My XM5’s turn off randomly and when I have a phone call, the other person can hear an echo unless I turn it down to like 20%. I watched this video to try and sway myself to grab the Bose but now I’m second guessing myself.
There are a problem with taking a call in a “quiet” environment and a college are sitting 3 meters beside you and talking. Then the colleges voice will very clearly get heard by the one that you are talking to in telephone. Here Bose 700 is still the king!!!
I own the Sony XM4 & Bose NC700 & find i tend to prefer the soundstage of the Bose cans, they would better if they didn't have sliders though as you never get a totally comfortable fit. If they changed the mechanism to be more in line with the XM4 they would have a far better fit. Shame to see Sony went with the slider type for the XM5, that has put me off. Appreciate the info provided in your videos, most helpful.
As a video creator, I need to use the wired connection (to avoid the Bluetooth latency). What’s the sound quality, ANC performance and latency in wired mode? I didn’t completely get that. Is there still like 80ms latency? That sounds bizarre. Thanks! Amazing quality content
Thanks! I use them in Bluetooth mode when editing on my NLE and there is no perceptible lag because the NLE buffers before playback. I don't use it wired at all.
@@aaronloudnwireless thanks mate. Right but if for example editing to the beat and pressing M to set a marker when you hear the beat, those will all be off by 4-5 frames which is quite a lot.
I could never get the XM5 to pair with Amazon Echo, even after hours on the phone with tech support, it just never "found" them. They said they'd have to escalate to engineering but only if I called Amazon and tried to get them to resolve the problem first, which they could not either. When Sony said I'd have to send them in for warranty repair, I gave up and returned them for a refund. For $400 they should pair with anything. Disappointing because I liked them otherwise.
Please like this so people can see... I have XM5 the Japanese version ( made in and for japan and with Japanese letters written all over it ) i was surprised to see people say xm5 is kinda bad at ANC! then one day i saw someone had the same model but the Malaysia version ( which is the version everyone has outside of japan ) i asked them to test theirs... U cant believe! its like 2 different headphones!!! if the regular version is 1 out of 10, the Made in Japan one is 10 out of 10!! i was shocked. After that im only looking for things made in and for japan only. Its not fair that they let other countries assemble Sony's products and make it low quality! I wonder how does Sony let this happen? Why do people outside of Japan get lower quality of the same brand, same model. same everything! i think it also applies to all other japanese brands, Like panasonic, Denon, Yamaha. and so on...
@vivekjhuria7 well if ur a base head and want ur head to ratle then no these ain't for you the bass is there it's clear but doesn't distort audio though like I said if bass is your thing these are not super bass heavy

The nc 700 are now shipping with firmware 2.0.4, not available for older units. Any information on the differences between 2.0.4 on the new units and 1.8.2 in the old ones?
I just tried both today Sony xm4 is good at noise canceling but only people noise not from tv or other range from human voice. The sound on Bose is much what i prefer mid range can go high and low but not too much in either way but Sony not really good in high range but in mid and low it's really better than bose. Sony produces bass really deep and soft
I like the better build quality of the Bose over the sonies, they both sound amazing but the anc of the Sony at the place I went to, to look for headphones, there was a pair of the Bose for $90 less than market value, so rather than spending $400 on the sonies or $380 on the Bose, I spent $300 on a open box pair of the Bose, there is some mild pressure on the ears from the Bose but not as bad as the mx5's from Sony, but they all sound great, the best deal for me was the Bose and a markdown.
If you don't care about call quality and just want some really good sounding headphones for the money, what would you suggest? Im trying to decide if 280 w tax is a good deal for the Sony or maybe if there is something else to consider
Oh, the clamping pressure thing surprised me. Can you say something about the background noise coming from the ANC and the pressure from it? Would be awesome to hear if it is low, cause unfortunately i‘m VERY sensitive to those things. And many people complaining about that their ears are touching the inside of the earcups. Do you have this problem as well? Thaaaaanks :))
I’m beginning to look . Since I like music and have an eclectic taste , which set would pick up the strings well if I’m listening to strings ? ( classical ) or hear the lead guitars and bass guitars in rock ?
My Sony XM4’s are letting me down pretty bad.. Been using them for a little over 2 years and the battery life reduced from 40 hours to only 10 hours and they keep disconnecting all the time. So I’m thinking of getting a pair of Bose’s 700 series, though I really love the boomy bass of the sony’s
@@lucasceleste4743was it the static noise on the right ear cup? I have the issue on my XM3s and it seems to be a wide spread issue extending down the the XM4s which is quiet astonishing since it they were like 2 years apart one another. I really wanted to replace them with the XM5s, but though that the risk of getting another dud wasn’t worth the risk considering that it was a design flaw on the XM3 and XM4’s part which caused the ANC to fail.
@@chrischoy9 it was an issue with the right ear cup, but it was like a high-pitched noise that was so ear piercingly loud that they became unusable. I'm going to bring them to Best Buy to have them repair them at some point. That issue seems to coincide with a structural issue because pieces of the ear cup joint literally just fell off. I have multiple small pieces of plastic sitting with them right now. I decided that while I'm waiting for those to be fixed, I need some sort of noise canceling headphones, so I went with the soundcore space Q45 and I must say they're fantastic. The noise canceling is 80% of what the sonys are, and the sound isn't perfect but it's more than good enough. I love the sound core app too, it's way better than Sony's in my opinion. I got them on sale for 99 bucks but at the full price of 150 I would still get them. If you're looking for some decent ones and you don't want to spend another 400 bucks, think about those 👍
Great review as always, for me the on call noise cancelling is the main feature I use these for, with the NC 700 still beating out the Sony I don't see any reason to upgrade yet! Hopefully either the Bose upgrade the Nc700s to cover off the missing features, if not if the Sony XM6 can match the nc700 on call ANC then I'll probably look at upgrading
@@tommi7554 and as I said the ANC for ME is NOT what I am purchasing these headphones for. The Bose are far superior for ANC on call for the participants
It tries both. Android and Nvidia shield user so LDAC made a difference. In music honesty can tune either to get a satisfing result. But in video is where I got sold on Sony. They are so much more emersive. Feels the echoes of the room like you are in it. picked one scene that had music dialogue and action and the Sony had crisp clear voice and music was not washed out. Not sure if it was LDAC or just better. Never understood the hype about Sony untill now. Batter life matter only wish the momentum 4 sound as good as those 2.
I have to say, the mic on the XM5 sounds very unpleasant in this video. The "s" sounds seem like they're cutting in your eardrums. Some words just seem unpleasantly louder, as if the volume is very uneven. The recording with the Bose 700 is just pretty even.
Great comparison. I want to buy Bose 700 instead of XM5, but i have only one fear - 700s were launched in 2019 and its 5 years already, they might release a new version soon (no rumours yet) while XM5 are 2022 model. Can someone clear this doubt ?
While this may have been a pretty put together review... why didnt you go over the significant price points ... i think that would have made a big difference in helping people choose headphones... especially with this inflation happening... people should know that up front.
Just bought the 700s on sale today for $269. I like how they look and sound vs. the XM5. I will sell the XM5s. I would keep them if Sony allowed the user to control noise canceling.
Hmm my Bose must be faulty because the number one complaint I get is how terrible the call quality is in loud environments. It's the complete opposite of your demo!
@@Stefovolley1983 For me, it would not be a dealbreaker. I rarely take my XM4 off and lay them around my neck, but I do put them down on my desk and thus always have to turn them around. So for me actually the better solution :D They should simply make them turn both ways equally.

The reason a lot of people chose the previous Sony models was because of the app and the Eq you were able to have heavy bass. @@GreyhoundIT Bose were on Sale at Amazon UK for £179 the XM5 were around £300 on Currys UK. With work scheme can buy vouchers for between 3-6% less. Also the XM5's were on a few sites around that mark. You can get good deal on the Amazon Warehouse deals as a lot of folk must have sent them back.
Keep your eyes open for Black Friday/Cyber Mon.
Sony is a damn old and experienced company , other companies have to put a huge effort to even come close to sony
Although Bose is a very good competitor. They are also old and experienced - they were founded only 18 years after Sony back in 1964
I have issues with my XM5’s.
Do you recommend the Bose QC45 better than the XM5? I'm not a big fan of the 700 so I'm trying to decide between these two.
On the voice call I couldn't understand you with the sonys with background noise. With the bose I heard you just fine
Sound quality would be nice if you show how adjusting sound via app effect. You can ad bass, midrange etc.
Do you know what ANC headphone is the best against dogbarking?
There are a problem with taking a call in a “quiet” environment and a college are sitting 3 meters beside you and talking. Then the colleges voice will very clearly get heard by the one that you are talking to in telephone. Here Bose 700 is still the king!!!
Love your new studio ! Keep up the great work.
Thank you! Great to see you in the comments again!
Did not looked for a while to your channel, Aaron, I like your new background setup! As always, a very good review, thanks for that
No problem, thanks for watching again!
I think having slight noise come in is the safety feature as there are many accidents involve ANC
Thanks for your excellent reviews, that helped me decide to upgrade to the XM5. I thoroughly enjoy them.
You are most welcome!
I have the wh1000xm5 and they have been great and amazing the noise canceling is stellar and your videos are so amazing i love them
How's the base of Sony wh 1000xm5 compared to airpods pro 2 earphones
Plz reply
@vivekjhuria7 well if ur a base head and want ur head to ratle then no these ain't for you the bass is there it's clear but doesn't distort audio though like I said if bass is your thing these are not super bass heavy
@@jesuscervantesj82 ok bro
Thanks👍👍
As a victim of the MX4's feedback screeching problem (google for it) I'll never buy Sony again. I've heard there are fixes for it, but I suspect those fixes are just postponing the next screeching episode. I value my hearing!
thanks so much for your reviews & comparisons are the best! so informative & like being able to hear the ANC comparisons myself :) thanks & for your smiley face too! I have bose 700 & i only care about ANC so it helps to hear it
The nc 700 are now shipping with firmware 2.0.4, not available for older units. Any information on the differences between 2.0.4 on the new units and 1.8.2 in the old ones?
No sidetone on the sony is a deal breaker for me. IMO it is not an enjoyable call experience when you can't hear your own voice.
How loud is the the bose nc 700?? Been looking for a headphone that is super loud
My main problem with Bose headphones has always been with how flimsy they feel. I feel like if I sat on them they'd just snap into multiple pieces.
Great review!! Ive been debating about these 2 for weeks
Which headset do you feel the bass in better? I'm a bass head so bass is quite important
Great video, very helpful thank you!
Great review!
Very nicely done review!!
Thank you!
When you say BOSE has better details, are you saying that Bose SBC and AAC has more detail than Sony's LDAC?
Thanks for the thorough and helpful review!
Glad it was helpful!
Great review but I'm still confused. I need it in an environment there is a lot of traffic.
One of the best review videos I have ever seen ! Keep up the good work
My nc700's anc mic shat the bed 1 months after warrantee period. Terrible static in my right ear.
Make of that what you will.
Great review. Thanks!
Let me know if you need a comparison with a QC45. Staying in Singapore too no harm passing you for a review
Another detailed and informative video Aaron. Your content continues to improve, it's good to see 👍
Thanks again for watching, I appreciate that!
Great video, thank you!
No problem!
Hey Aaron Bose now states in the qc 45 description saying that they have their best noise cancelling at this point.
Interesting...
But the nc 700 now also have new firmware 2.0.4, wandering what changed...
Do these headphones have wired mode? Is there any noticeable latency?
Hey Aaron. A request, could you consider reviewing Sony's mid range headphone WH-XB910N?
Was going to go with Bose but I have a bigger head so I feel the clamping will be a no go. Sony it will be
If you don't care about call quality and just want some really good sounding headphones for the money, what would you suggest? Im trying to decide if 280 w tax is a good deal for the Sony or maybe if there is something else to consider
Oh, the clamping pressure thing surprised me. Can you say something about the background noise coming from the ANC and the pressure from it? Would be awesome to hear if it is low, cause unfortunately i‘m VERY sensitive to those things. And many people complaining about that their ears are touching the inside of the earcups. Do you have this problem as well? Thaaaaanks :))
I am waiting for a review showing Sony Xm5 connectivity. Xm4 had problem seemlessly connecting between two devices.
I’m beginning to look . Since I like music and have an eclectic taste , which set would pick up the strings well if I’m listening to strings ? ( classical ) or hear the lead guitars and bass guitars in rock ?
Best comparison ever. thank you.
Which one is better bose 700 sony 1000xm5 or what help me please reply?
Im buying these on summer sale i have the xm5 i love them but they just slip off my head when dead lifting
Same, I've had structural issues with the Sony as well as noise canceling problems
Not even close, as you heard, sony did way better job. Bose let more noise in.
@@tommi7554 and as I said the ANC for ME is NOT what I am purchasing these headphones for. The Bose are far superior for ANC on call for the participants
QC Ultra was a huge disappointment as an upgrade. Will be moving to Sony when the XM6 releases I guess!
Thank you, Great video..
Just compare to Philips Fidelio L3 headphones… those are really good. When I listen even old songs with these I can hear new sounds every time...
Yeah me too
Good review thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you again! 🤝
thanks for great review..
No problem!
I have the Bose and they don’t get loud enough …they sound good and everything and comfy I just wish they went higher
I don’t get it? The Bose were loud enough to make my ears hurt.
I cannot express how helpful your videos are. Very organized, very informative
The king of Audio is...SONY...
Always.
While this may have been a pretty put together review... why didnt you go over the significant price points ... i think that would have made a big difference in helping people choose headphones... especially with this inflation happening... people should know that up front.
How did you fold those XM5 on your neck ?
I would like to hear live the difference between transparent mode if it's possible
Great video. How can you put the XM5 on your shoulders with the pads down? Do you dress them inverted?
Only solution. I think he even turned them around in a video when he laid them down.
@@MegaSteamfreak not a good choice by Sony..
@@Stefovolley1983 For me, it would not be a dealbreaker. I rarely take my XM4 off and lay them around my neck, but I do put them down on my desk and thus always have to turn them around.
So for me actually the better solution :D
They should simply make them turn both ways equally.
Thanks! Yes feels more comfortable that way
Are both sweat proof?
The bose can bluetooth to 2 devices at once, can the Sonys do that yet?
Amazing review!
i tryed the latency test cause i was curious and for the sony i actually had a lot quicker with 130! I'm not sure if it was the sound itself or the device is used but i used a Samsung if it is the phones doing.
still hoping to see more reviews in the future 😁
The reason a lot of people chose the previous Sony models was because of the app and the Eq you were able to have heavy bass. But I always thought in terms of built quality and quality sound and noise cancellation the Bose were far superior., i have the Bose and the MX3. i se the Nosé to watch movies at night and the Sony to bump music 🎵. It is hard to choose just one.
Great info. Lol I need a good quality pair to produce music and a great pair to bump the music once made.
