    100% appreciate the call quality comparison. Isn’t that obvious? 😂
    One small suggestion though, you may consider editing the comparison clip in a way they toggle between Bose NC on > Sony NC on > Bose NC on. That way viewer can immediately hear the comparison without a gap in between.

    I purchased both off Amazon. Holiday return policy lets me test em out until Jan 31st. Bose were $399, Sony were $279.
    Been testing both out on default settings.
    The Sony wh-1000xm3's feel much more comfortable and sound gorgeous. The power and soundstage absolutely blows the 700s out of the water. IMO for sound quality and immersion of music and what you experience listening to music Sony's crush the Bose.
    The Bose feel higher quality but the cushion and pressure is less comfortable for my (medium-sized) head. That said I agree w/ you that sound quality is the best of any ANC Bose model to date. (If they can update the firmware and take higher quality codecs and add in an equalizer to bump up the bass - the sound would crush!) But Sony has totally dropped the ball on the mic. Their headphones are absolute trash in noisy environments - I make a ton of calls to my teams and I just don't see myself going with the Sony's when they are essentially unusable for call quality.
    I wish I could buy the Sony's bc they sound awesome and are more comfortable. But they just look like they have even a close chance to competing with Bose on calls.
    I think ANC is about the same on both. I might give the edge to the Bose, but at times the Sony does seem to outperform the bose. I mainly give Bose the edge bc it's super solid, I love how simple the settings and adjustments are and Sony isn't as intuitive and seemed to tweak out in my testing in different environments.
    I've watched a few of our reviews ep - thanks for whipping up this one.

    Hey Guys great comments on the video. I appreciate the detail looked at the videos as it help with future tests. I am receiving some questions on the ambient noise setting. of 16 and how it impact ANC. As I stated in the Video. SONY has the best hearthru tech. It amplifies what you hear around you. Like super hearing. They rock in that category. When you change anc the app flips from Ambient nose to anc., Ambient settings are no longer active. It doesn't matter what setting you have 1,2, 10 or full ambient sound. These are ignored. Sony doesn't have a dial up version of anc like bose does. They dont have a button that cycles thru noise canceling levels as I demoed. They do have a slider. In this video the slider is at max setting. Hope this helps. Great comment and great eye for details. Sony's still rocks in sound quality, battery life. They dont in calls.

    • @zanemiracle6121
      @zanemiracle6121 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The dial up version of bose works just like pressing the sony headphones button though doesn't it? Just under a different name. Kind of like how all brands name their noise cancelling in different ways for marketing but it's all the same. If you have the anc control instead of assistant on.
      Isn't a 10 on the bose 700 just the same as if you press the anc bytton the the sony. A 5 is the equivalent if noise cancelling off on the Sony. A 1 on the bose would be full on noise cancelling on the Sony by pressing buttons. After demoung at best buy, it's basically the same thing, there's nothing special the bose 700 is doing here. Just marketing.
      At least from my testing although in fairness I own the sony but not the 700. I used a demo set a store had to compare. When using the anc button on both, they're basically the same thing just different. At least from my perspective.

    Bose obviously won the call quality test.
    Noise cancelling seemed close, I don't think I could confidently declare a winner from what I heard. It would be best to rely on a decibel reader to determine which blocks noise most effectively under controlled settings. Both of them are clearly fantastic noise cancelling headphones though.
    From your description, the Sony's would be more fun to listen to across the bulk of modern genres, but I'm personally a rather big fan of classical music and emphasized bass sounds completely stupid when each instrument's volume is delicately balanced in relation to the rest of an orchestra. You should not be hearing the cellos playing constant staccato eighth notes over violins playing a Mozart melody, and that's exactly what happens with too much bass. Yes there's the in-app equalizer, but I despise inconveniences on headphones--when I'm going for a 10 minute walk it doesn't even feel worth finicking with an equalizer.I'd rather them sound nice across all genres. The Bose's flat sound signature is the closest thing to perfection I've found for classical music among ANC headphones, and honestly I tend to prefer that sound signature in general even outside of the classical genre. I must admit though that the Sony's would give me a better experience for movie watching, since hype soundtracks are pretty much defined by punchy bass and wide soundstage, but that's a minor part of my usage. So for my tastes the Bose would work better for me, for others maybe not so much, it's subjective at the end of the day.
    I do have to say that the Sonys wins the features department, not by as large a margin now, but still clearly. But for my purposes the Bose would be more enjoyable. I also happen to favor it's design (in terms of aesthetics and functionality), so I'll probably opt in that direction when I decide to upgrade.

      I declare confidently, It's clear Sony for ANC King! And calling we can do on cheap one plus ear headset which neglect background noise! So Sony is something if you listen, you never will be able to satisfied by Bose! That's the aura of Sony!

    I appreciate your extensive testing, but I think it would be very helpful to those comparing these 2 headphones if, near the end of the video, you could add back to back audio clips of the Bose at max ANC followed immediately by the Sony at max ANC. You’ve already recorded the audio you need to make this happen, so it shouldn’t be too much extra work for you, but it would make it much easier for your viewers to decide which is truly the king of ANC.

    Here is my take when I went to bestbuy to try both because I wanted both to be tested on the Sound Quality, loudness and ANC.
    What can I say is that when I was comparing between Sony and Bose that Bose 700 does have a better mic quality and you can choose between different levels of ANC from 1-11 by pressing a button.
    However both still have similar levels even with the Bose at the highest level of ANC setting, so I think Bose did not surpass them with that feat (might aswell call it a tie).
    When talking about the sound quality Bose 700 is still flat and they're just slightly better than the QC35 ii. Also you cant play around with the settings if you want the sound to be more bass, less bass, or more treble. Sony allows you to do that.
    With the battery life Bose is 10 hours less than Sony's.
    With the price Sony is in sale right now and can be picked up at 300 USD (not included tax).
    In my conclusion it's a tie and only buy based on what your preference. I also highly suggest to test both when buying it. However with Sony being 50$ off compared to the original price of 350$, I think Sony is alot better buy. Sony I think will release a better version and will yet again surpass what Bose 700 achieved this year just like what they did to the XM3 to the QC35.

    Great detailed review but you should look at the entire package next to audio: functionality, multi-unit pairing etc to make a decision ... Sony has the best audio quality in my opinion but can't do multi pairing ... Bose has the best NC/call quality, can do multi pairing but is overprized ... tough to decide. It comes down to personal preference but pushes my decision towards waiting for the Sony M4 ...

    You've gone lengths to bring us such a detailed review. Really touched upon even the minutest of details. Really commendable! Btw, i dont know if you feel the same, but Sonys sound a bit muddy. The highs just don't justify the price these command. Besides, there's one more thing, the Sonys never give that thump on the head, which my qc25 s do. Do we get that thump with the 700?? By thump, I mean that the headphones vibrate a bit physically when there's powerful bass, kind of what we get with the skull crushers, obviously not that level of thump though.

Then go to the sony connect and change it from there, I maximize all my settings though and leave it on club or outdoor stage depending on playlist. All around leave it on concert mode.

    I'm listening on the Bose 700's I got today. The noise cancellation is amazing. I'm on the road in a motel and have been clapping my hands to see what I can hear. I can't tell if I'm hearing it or feeling it so I pressed the button and it turned the noise cancelling down to 5 and it was still hard to hear the clap then I turned the NC off completely and all of the sudden the reality loud motel air conditioner was there again loud and clear. I couldn't believe it completely drowned out the AC to make me forget it was on and I wasn't listening to music just NC. Amazing tech. I'm sure the Sony is great but the clarity is the quality. • @MrProximace
    @MrProximace 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    I have a few comments about this because I own a pair of mk3's and have tried the QC35iis
    1. Bose although sounds clearer, lacks character in the overall sound. Unless and until you are looking for reference monitors, I do not think anyone wants a flat response. Mk3s, on the other hand, have good definition, but focus on lower end a little more making it sound warmer. I kind of like that because it does not entirely compromise on your sound quality but also makes it sound warmer. Also, the bose is not completely free of "tampering" with the sound. IF you have a pair of reference monitors and listen through Bose, they do a fair bit of processing to achieve their "flat" response.
    2. The 700s absolutely decimate the mk3 in the call quality. I can vouch for this because the mk3s pick up so much background noise that the receiver is unable to clearly hear what you are trying to say. I am not fond of this on the mk3s.
    3. The adaptive noise cancellation feature on mk3s based on your surroundings and based on your activity is amazing. It can actually drop to virtually no background noise in certain cases. And this is fairly consistent as long as you wear your headphones properly.
    4. Oh my god, the battery life on the Sony's. They crush their competition. It does not matter what anyone brings to the table. I am a fairly heavy user (10+ hours somedays on wireless ANC per day). And I charge mine once 3-4 4 days for 1 hour and I am set for the rest for the week.
    5. Comfort - Mk3s are very plush, light and I have worn them for 4+ hours at a stretch. However, they do sometimes get hot. QC35ii was good. I suppose 700 would be the same if not better.
    Edit : I forgot to mention the headphones app by Sony which allows you to tweak the sound signature quite a bit which is not possible on the Bose at all. So that is something you would want to factor in.
    If I were to have a choice, I would go for Sony xm1000 mk3s, which I already did.

    First, this is one of the best reviews I have seen directly discussing what we actually care about and done as closely as possible to being there. No one can argue call quality is much better with Bose, though still little artificial. I had a hard time determining which was better for ANC which is my MAIN issue for flying. I have the M2s which blew away the QC35IIs then the M3s were much better. I like the easy switch to bluetooth sources since I use it as well for conference calls but in a quiet environment. It will come down to testing in the store A vs. B at Best buy and them deciding.

    • @barryfitzgerald5803
      @barryfitzgerald5803 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I went to BestBuy totally ready to see the Bose beat Sony. I put on the Bose and it was incredible the noise reduction in the BestBuy store. Just for grins I went to try the Sony MX3 and was surprised that it was so good as well. After about 5 A/B test runs it was clear the Sony ANC was about 10% better and they were on sale for $100 less. Still the ability to conduct a phone call in a noisy environment was a plus for Bose. So I tried imagining how I might use this. I work from home which is quiet and almost never use my Sony MX2s for calls. I use AirPods which are more comfortable. I never understood why anyone would want to sit in a noisy Starbucks working when they can work from the peace of home and not have overpriced over roasted coffee. But I guess there are those who do in which case the Bode 700 wins. The ANC is not much less than the Sony. Comfortwise the Bose seemed about the same in a short test.

    I would have to say the new Bose is more "functional" for air travel and city street use because of the naturalness of sounds pass through - probably safer being able to hear wanted environmental sounds more clearly.
    Sony seems to be better for music overall, but what is going on with call quality with ANC turned on? That is not usable at all.

And made calls with the 700s upon taxing and while sitting waiting for the entire plane to board, a good 45 minutes. On the ground I could hear much less with the XM3s than with the Bose, either of them. Also while the FAs were taking my dinner, lunch and breakfast orders and serving champagne when first boarding the Sonys were much better at drowning out the ambient noise, and much clearer when making calls. Not sure but thinking this guy got the Bose for free in return for a nicely padded advert for Bose. I tried the 700s the entire way from PER to LHR and my usual XM3s on the LHR to PER non-stop flight. The Sonys were better still by a large margin. @@iitbftw who said the airline supplied them? He obviously tried his own on the flight.

      Or maybe it's just your feeling and your experience that has been different...

    Sony for me because imo headphones are for music and your phone is for calls but I’m old school. I have no problem removing my headphones to answer my phone.

      Same here. So is it almost unanimous that sound quality is better for music on the Sony? Thats the more important factor for me.

      It's not only phones. The real use case is when you have to work with your laptop on a not quite place and you need to make a business call through apps like Skype, Zoom etc..

    Which has better sidetone?
    I never understood how anyone has a phone conversation on either an active or passive noise-canceling headphone without it.

    The thing is that you all should now I have owned the Sony headphones for around four months now and in the app you can change the level of noise canceling just like you can on the Bose headphones you can also change it to make it so you sound like you’re in a stadium or you can change it back to like if you’re listening inside of a car like the Bose sound and in the app there is a lot of settings like base boosted if you want to hear more bass or vocals if you’d like to hear that and a lot more options you can even customize your own and like if you’re in a café as soon as you turn music on on the Sony headphones you can’t hear anything the noise canceling is not to cancel everything is canceling out white sound like fans some noises but not mainly peoples voices but is soon as you turn on music you won’t be able to hear anything.
