I bought the QC45's right after Christmas, just returned them for 700's. The 45's were great, except had major sound leakage. People around me were both distracted and somewhat annoyed. The 700's seem to be much better. This is an aspect that no one seems to mention in reviews.
I have the nc700's and they are a great set of headphones. When you can use that custom E-Q setting with the 700s, that really helps in the quality of music. I remember when the E-Q setting wasn't accessible with voiceover, then bose had an update to the music app. That fixed the problem. The sound of my music really improved once I could set my EQ the way I wanted it. I'm glad I made the purchase of the nc700s.
I haven't tried the QC 45, but I've tried QC 35 II, QC 25, QC 20, WH-1000XM4, WH-1000XM3, and NC 700, and among those, NC 700 is the clear winner in terms of call mic quality in noisy environments. The noise suppression is excellent for a headset without an annoying boom mic in front of your mouth.
So I went to test a lot of headphones yesterday to pick the right one for me, and the 700's and 45's were at the same testing stand in the store. I listened to the same song on both of them, swapping back and forth as fast as possible, and imo the 700's are just worse than the 45's. The 45's had a really full and spacious sound, while the 700's sounded a bit hollow. 45's also had the better noise cancelling, though the difference wasn't big in that regard. All in all, I'd personally recommend the 45's more than the 700's.
Just tried the two at home for a while, and the QC45s now have an EQ setting. The sound on QC45 does sound better but the 700s are definitely nicer feeling. It felt like the 700s had better ANC and less sound bleed (if you use it too loud) but I’d still go with the QC45.

If you use your headphones with more than 2 devices like me, one feature of the QC45 (and previous QC models) that's NOT included in the NC 700 for some reason is the ability to cycle through which 2 bluetooth connections are active by a short toggle of the power switch, so you don't have to go through an app to connect to any previously connected device. To me this is a major feature that gives the QC line the edge over other ANC headphones as well as the 700s.

Coming from a qc25 to a qc35 I to a NC700 and using them for many many years, i think that the qc45 comes to late! If you are looking to buy one, either invest in the nc700 that has a better surround, on buy directly a qc35 II that are way cheaper now! The improvement between the qc35 (I and II) and the qc45 are not worth the price! Bose should really focus on upgrading the cushion quality tho! The glued edges and the pealing leatherette are a pain in the ass for power users and I find my self changing them every 2 to 3 years, may sounds like nothing but 35$ isn’t nothing!
First, thank you for the excellent review. I appreciated the detailed explanations regarding the differences of the two headphones. I currently have a QC 35, which I've had for many years and while they still work perfectly, they are looking a little worse for wear. I've looked to purchase the Sony XM4, and the QC45 or 700. It really ticks me off that Bose did not add the EQ feature on the QC 45! Personally, I don't like the touchpad controls, so I leaned towards the QC 45, however, it makes me mad that Bose did not include the EQ feature on the 45 in order to induce me to buy the 700. The XM4 are now more expensive, however, I hope Bose gets its act together and add the EQ feature and the ability to shut off the NC. For now, I'm going to wait and see. Your review helped me realize to wait for a better product before I shell out $$$. Thank you.
You must not have tested using the headphones while wired in with the audio jack. My biggest complaint with the advertisement of the audio cable is that the marketing does not tell you that the audio cable is only good for listening to audio. In other words, and you missed this in your review, the audio cable does NOT support the microphone. The audio cable provided with these headphones use TRS audio jacks. I even tried an after market TRRS cable to see if that would make a difference. The problem, at least with the NC 700 model (I haven't tested with the QC45's) is that the microphone isn't wired into the audio jack at all. It's all digital. The microphone can only be used wirelessly. This was a huge disappointment for me when I purchased my NC 700's.
Late to the party, but just wanted to say that you explained their properties well to a non-audiophile. Excellent summary and convinced me that the QC45 is the way to go for me. Thank you! (And of course subscribed. :) )
Thanks. I picked up the QC-45 yesterday, May 15, 2022. I strted them up and they had 70% battery life and connected to my phone instantaneously. I downloaded the Bose App and it started to update the headphones...or tha app, not sure which. Anyway, after the update, Boom, EQ feature was there. I'm happy even though I do see what you mean by the cabin pressure. Weird. Beats didn't seem to have that. Anyway, I'm happy. I'm sure that more firmware updates will happen in due time.
I don't know why everyone calls it cabin pressure. It's what -dB sounds like. The Bose noise cancelling is so 'good' that it behaves like an anechoic chamber. It's not really good from a user satisfaction point of view, but it neutralizes itself when there is outside sound bleeding in after ANC has tried to cancel out the sound. Bose is by far the best in ANC and always has been.
Thanks, the best impressive review for me including my country Japan, the Japanese subtitle was really working very well and decided to be a subscriber on your channel.
The mic on the QC45 quite honestly sounds terrible. Is there any possibility that this could/would be fixed with a firmware update? That's one of the deciding factor for me between the two (and over Sony's XM4)
thanks for the review, I have the Bose QC45 and plan on returning them , I find that the Volume on these is very limited, sometimes I wanna hear a song on the louder side and I find these just can't get up there and are limited, which headphones would you rec. for quality audiophile sound , has a wide range of volume and an EQ ?
Went to a shop where they had both of these headphones wired up to their player. The difference between wire and having them connected via bluetooth is HUUUUUUUUUUGE. They had huge bass, and sounded mirific. There is a slight difference between 700 and qc45 when it comes to sound quality. The 700 sounded more natural, I felt like the sound was noticeable clearer. The way they were wired up was a bit strange, in the sense that they used the charging port instead of the 3.5mm jack For comparison, I've been listening to Sony XM4 connected via bluetooth before and it sounded like a joke compared to bose qc45 and 700 wired.
I have one important question about the QC45s vs NC700 Do the QC45s suffer from the same problem the QC35s have where it randomly turns on when the power switch is off? And do the NC700s have a similar problem? (The NC700s have a button rather than a slider so I'd assume not).

Awesome review as always ! Could you campare the QC45 against the XM3 and XM4 ? Very curious to see them side by side in the ANC test :) Thanks in advance !
Are you thinking which pair of headphones to buy? Or are you just like me interested in general? In case you are still thinking about which headphones to buy, I can really recommend the xm3 due to their anc optimization. I used to feel a slight pressure in my ears when wearing ANC headphones, and by running Sonys optimizer your headphones will measure the atmospheric pressure and this avoids you feeling any pressure in your ears which is great, and the bose don't have that as far as I know. Soundwise the Sonys may not sound as sharp as the bose which also means they are a little less clear, so if you like listening to classical music then the bose might be your choice, but I listen to every kind of music (inclucing classical) and I really like the sound of my headphones (in contrast to the bose, the xm3 do have an EQ so you can adjust your headphones to your liking depending on the music you're listening to or just use them without the EQ to use all the high quality codecs). If you want to have great and customizable sound and good anc for an affordable price then go for the xm3s :)
I just got my QC45 a couple days ago, its my first pair of anc headphone, but I can't tolerate the cabin pressure, I can't use them for more then 1 hour...Do you have any recommendation for alternative without this issue? It's suck because the comfort of the QC45 is amazing
@@moony995 @Moony Both are amazing for noise canceling, I just had the cabin pressure issue on the Bose, but I did some research, and most people won't have any problems using any headphones. @@sheptube99 So I bought the 35s, 45s, and the 700s. The 700s wouldn't even stay on my head so I didn't bother even turning them on. Between the 45s and the 35s, the 45s are more comfortable and have slightly better anc. Didn't notice much of a difference in cabin pressure. However, I ended up going with the 35s because they were wayyyy cheaper and only marginally behind the 45s. Hope that helps!

Yet another missing feature on the 700s is that they can’t share audio with other Bose headphones. On airplanes, my wife and I like to both connect to the same iPad to watch movies. We can’t do that with the 700s. Thankfully apple airpod pros support this feature. Add in that you can’t easily switch between paired devices (if you have more than 2) and the 45s are just so feature rich in comparison… the 700s are def going back, it’s been years and Bose clearly have no intention of providing these features through software updates.

And yes I’m using them all for different purpose and A LOT!
I use Poweramp EQ for my Bose QC45's and the bass is very good. Not as much as the Sony's, but, comparable
What app you use ? Android or ios ?
@@XXSAD11XX Android only
Yeah it sounds like Bose went into the EQ, turned up the base to 3, then disabled it cause screw you you didn’t buy the 700s
I watched your video today and I was able to make a right call on my part as to which product I should select between the two.
Thank you.
Super helpful! Would you say, regarding comfort, if the qc45 cabin pressure out-prioritizes the lower clamping function?
I still have my Bose QC35s and I like them alot.
What does this cabin pressure feel like? Looking to buy either QC-45 or 700. Are the QC-45 comfortable to sleep with?
I don't know why everyone calls it cabin pressure. It's what -dB sounds like. The Bose noise cancelling is so 'good' that it behaves like an anechoic chamber. It's not really good from a user satisfaction point of view, but it neutralizes itself when there is outside sound bleeding in after ANC has tried to cancel out the sound. Bose is by far the best in ANC and always has been.
Thanks, the best impressive review for me including my country Japan, the Japanese subtitle was really working very well and decided to be a subscriber on your channel.
Glad I could help!
Thanks for your good coverage of the ergos. I've decided - for my needs, which include lots of gym time, I'm going with the QC45's.
Glad it was helpful!
The mic on the QC45 quite honestly sounds terrible. Is there any possibility that this could/would be fixed with a firmware update? That's one of the deciding factor for me between the two (and over Sony's XM4)
I’d like to know the answer to this question as well!
One of the most informative videos I have seen. Great job man.
This helped a lot, super in depth. Thanks a bunch!!!
Thank you for this video! Which one would be good for working out in the gym? Like sweat resistance wise and overall quality?
thanks for the review, I have the Bose QC45 and plan on returning them , I find that the Volume on these is very limited, sometimes I wanna hear a song on the louder side and I find these just can't get up there and are limited, which headphones would you rec. for quality audiophile sound , has a wide range of volume and an EQ ?
Honestly I'd say keep them and get a Bluetooth amp, I'd recommend fioo, then you can play louder
@@thomasmapplebeck5237 then you will end up with tinnitus like me
NOW I FOUND THIS VIDEO WITHOUT YOU WEARING A CAP...HAHA NOW I SEE YOUR REAL LOOK...ALWAYS A GOOD REVIEW
Really helpful insights! Especially for the Mic quality.
This is exactly the video I needed in my life you're channel is one of my favorite stuff 😳🤣
Tested the Bose QC45 against the Sony WH-1000 XM4 and gotta say that the QC45 definitely have a more "head-rattling" bass.
I'm guessing you can travel and charge them using 110v or 220v sources?
Went to a shop where they had both of these headphones wired up to their player. The difference between wire and having them connected via bluetooth is HUUUUUUUUUUGE.
They had huge bass, and sounded mirific. There is a slight difference between 700 and qc45 when it comes to sound quality. The 700 sounded more natural, I felt like the sound was noticeable clearer.
The way they were wired up was a bit strange, in the sense that they used the charging port instead of the 3.5mm jack
For comparison, I've been listening to Sony XM4 connected via bluetooth before and it sounded like a joke compared to bose qc45 and 700 wired.
Your reviews are great!
Superb detailed comparison review, thanks!
If you was in an office for day to day working. Would you go for the 700’s or 45’s?
The qc45
@@GYMCADDY why’s that
I am surprised that QC35ii have better microphone than the other 2. The static you mention is also very prominent with 35iis
I have one important question about the QC45s vs NC700
Do the QC45s suffer from the same problem the QC35s have where it randomly turns on when the power switch is off? And do the NC700s have a similar problem? (The NC700s have a button rather than a slider so I'd assume not).
Where did you get the patent print/poster? Really nice looking. Thanks!
Hi! Many people claim that QC45 has an orrible white noise with ANC active. Is it true? Have you heard it? Thanks a lot!
I have ear problems and like to work out at the gym and I want to listen to podcasts or on airplane flights. What do you think is the best headphones they blocks out the maximum amount of background noise? And will stick to my head while working out.
Good review! Can you link me to those headphone holders you have? Thanks!
Excellent review!
Which one are a solid pair for plane engine and cabin noise cancellation while looking at a movie in flight?
Another great review and good detail as always. Was waiting your reviews to drop on the QC 45 was so nice when ya posted. Keep up the good work!
the only bad thing about QC is the material of earcups and headband....you'll have to replace them over 1 year of use, i'd stick to the 700.
Good video as always, can you do a comparison between the new Sony XB 910n and the XB 900n please would like to hear your thoughts if it’s worth upgrading
I will but it'll be awhile. still busy with QC45
The qc 35 leather both on the headband and on the earcups have been replaced twice after a year of use they start to tear down I have now bought a better more breathable material for the cups from a third party company
Thanks for the useful information. Can you please do a video comparing the QC45 with the Razer Opus?
I'm an upcoming grad student and I'm looking for an ANC headphones but I'm torn between these two. What do you think would suit me best if I intend to use it primarily on listening to lectures, zoom meetings, and from time to time, music?
Another great review! Depending on implementation AAC can sound great. I like the design of the nc700.
My main use is for cell phone calls. What would your recommendation be bearing that in mind?
AirPods Max have the best mic on them. but I don't like them. too expensive, too heavy. stick with bose then. Sony's mics still sound bad.
Thank you!!! 700 or Q45?
@@somedayzo6 QC 35 ii has the best mic quality - the 700 has a weird underwater type of resonance
I agree on qc35. I had xm3, xm4, px7 and airpods max. Qc35 most comfortable with great mics for the phone calls.
Please
Am not English man
Which one is better
Bose qc35 or Bose qc45 or Sony or what?
And what is your opinion about soundcore life Q35
Which one is the best highquality of music details ..
Help me
Thank YOU! I finally made my decision .. 700 🎉 wait! How silly for me to think I made a decision. Question~~ I want these specifically for sleep - I’m a back sleeper and my Sonys just won’t stay on my head. Also, sound - I listen to binaural beats so quality must be EXCELLENT . Noise canceling isn’t that important…. Can anyone HELP ME???
In your experience which headphones are better than xm4? what I can see xm4 in sound bass and ANC always is better
If the 700’s fits you well stay with them, otherwise go with the QC for better comfort.
Thank you, this video helped me a lot.
Please cover duolink speakerbuds and nuraphones.
Do both headphones have the MusicShare function like the QC35 II when using the app?
will you compare the QC45 with the Bose QC earbuds
Uuhhhh no….
I will be comparing them to the XM4's next. video will probably be out on Sunday. going to write script today.
@@Christian-xp3ho thanks for this. Really helps consider the next pair of headphones i want
Do both work with the 3.5 cable without battery?
Great comparison!!!
yes
It’s worth mentioning though that whilst using the 3.5mm cable with the headphones turned off does work, it makes them sound terrible
Thanks for you review!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you, for the video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Can you compare the razer nommo pro to the the logitech g560?
First really good NC and mic tests I've seen so far, Thanks!
I just got my QC45 a couple days ago, its my first pair of anc headphone, but I can't tolerate the cabin pressure, I can't use them for more then 1 hour...Do you have any recommendation for alternative without this issue? It's suck because the comfort of the QC45 is amazing
Did the cabin pressure get better after a while?
@Moony no I did return them, after a while I got the Sony xm4 and was not having the same issue
@@KevinGoldLVL ohh ok- that sucks but glad the sonys work better for you, also is the anc good compared to the qc45s?
@@moony995 @Moony Both are amazing for noise canceling, I just had the cabin pressure issue on the Bose, but I did some research, and most people won't have any problems using any headphones. It seems to be pretty rare. The worst cabin pressure, as far as I know, is the Apple headphones and then the Bose QC45...the Sony are designed differently. I'm not sure why I don't feel it in those. Do you also have this issue with the QC45?
@@KevinGoldLVL oh thanks for the info :) and no i dont have the QC45s so i wouldn't know, I'm thinking abt buying them but can't decide between the Sony xm5, the xm4, qc35/35ii andd the bose nc700.. too many choices lmao
Very good review
Glad you enjoyed it
very good review
so forty five has less clamping pressure than thirty five second generation? i feel that thirty five put too much earcup cushion pressure on my skull bone around my ears that i have to take them off after a short while...
Okay, so QC45 is more comfortable, but when you take into account ANC, the NC700's are better since they have less cabin pressure? Lmk please as I'm trying to decide between the two. My use case will be wearing these headphones for like 3-4 hrs at a time with anc on
What did you end up going with? I just bought the 700.
I bought the qc45 yesterday but i am returning them tommorow and i am going to buy the anc 700💪
@wise grampsbut the one piece is real!!!!
I have the QC 35 Mki am I missing anything?
What do you think about the new Sivga sv021's?
Hey what was that song you were playing at 15:20
how do theu=y perform in cold conditions?
Do either of these headphones have a mic mute button? I really like my other Bose ANC headphones, but I hate running back to my office every time I need to mute myself while on a Teams call. Would be great to mute my mic on the headphones and grind some beans while still listening to the call. :)
Yes. Both have mute buttons.
I got the 700s for 100$ cuz my mom brother gave it to her for free an she not really into head phones so i got a deal but i only got the 🎧 an case no cabel or jack
But my steam deck charger works an I was wondering if i should trade it in for the qc45
Great freaking revieww!!! Im waiting for 800 then 😂guess upgrde is soon
Great review gm, you really love taking pot shots at apple for that aux cord haha
I do, because its a stupid decision on their part. plus that charge you like $20 for their audio cable
@@GYMCADDY hey as far as I'm concern apple became far to elitist long ago
I don't know why you can't use them wired while they are charging it just straight up doesn't work
