Console is more nice for being Social. Everything is Connected and Easy to chat, most PC games use external Voice so it's a lot harder to have that social side of things unless you have a big group of dedicated gamer friends. Oh and it's usually more Stable at the cost of Performance or Ability.

To turn off the console, press the PS button and scroll over on the bottom to the 2nd to last icon and select it. Then you can select Power Off & Rest Mode. If you hold the PS button, that is for going back to the home screen if you're in a game or other menu... it will do nothing if you're on the home screen. It will just make a sound.

NASCompares has done extensive testing on heatsinks for it and found the Sabrent heatsink to be one of the best for managing heat dissipation and it maintains the design that Sony intended. So far, so good! And if I ever choose to upgrade it to let's say 4tb in the future, I can always repurpose this drive into my PC.

(0:50) I really only buy games for PC nowadays, but still play my consoles a lot, cause I have a huge library on XB1 and PS4 from before my "PCMR" switch in 2018 lol. And also Game Pass on XB1. So my OG XB1 has a 500GB HDD, and I had a 4TB external for a number of years that kept me good, but with Game Pass I filled the rest of it quickly, and had to move up to an 8TB, and I'm close to full there now too lol. The OG Xbox360 had a 20GB HDD I think, and it was a system update later on that allowed installing disc games to the HDD. So originally that space was for DLC and save files, and it was plenty. But later on it wasn't with more and more digital purchases, and just installing discs to the HDD so they loaded faster. I upgraded to the 120GB HDD, and after that, an "unofficial" 240GB kit. Then they added the USB storage capability, so I had another drive or two there. 'Member GTA5 on 360, which required an 8GB flash drive to fill with chunks of game data, that could load in parallel with data on the disc, cause otherwise it couldn't stream data fast enough or something. I think you can just run it all off a HDD if you install the game to it though.

@@crisnmaryfam7344 The airflow comes from up top. It passes over the metal plate that covers the drive, not from below it. It wouldnt make sense to vent from below as you would have to make vent holes through the motherboards. He also says it doesnt pass over. Yes it does. The ridges you see above the m.2 are the vent holes. The ps5 fan you see there pulls air from between the black and white plastic, through the ridges, over the m.2 cover into the fan. From the fan it gets pushed through the system airway and out the exhaust. Airflow was seriously considered when making the ps5. The entire system is made somewhat airtight by foam inserts in open spaces of the system to direct airflow.

If you like to have everything available always, a 2tb or bigger nvme internal drive, and a 4tb or bigger usb drive (i like 4tb mx500), is Really worth considering splurging on. This current console generation is reminding me a lot of the start of the 360 era, you couldn't build an equivalent PC for less than the MRSP of the console! There obviously wasn't the price gouging that there is now but even at MSRP you'll struggle to match the performance of these consoles with new hardware for the same price. I think until proof of work mining moves to proof of stake and supply shortages are resolved the consoles will actually be better value for money for most people's gaming needs.

Great info on how to take it apart. It might have been helpful to others to show the underside of the lid and what is actually holding it down and why you press on it the way you do WHERE you do...makes a lot more sense after the fact. There's 2 little nubs at the end about a couple millimeters high that don't have hooks in them. You are essentially lifting them out of the holes they sit in, allowing the rest of the plastic cover to slide open. When you slide it back together, the main hooks catch the sliding cover, then the little nubs drop into those shallow holes, locking it in place, once you slide it all the way up.

Sabrent makes a heatsink for the SSD that replaces the m.2 cover. It makes contact with the SSD while being exposed to PS5's airflow which should be helpful in cooling the drive more effectively.

I went with that too, the 4TB model + it's heatsink. It was on sale at the time. And it sill is for $769.99. Yes it's expensive. But I buy digital. And wanted to have plenty of storage to last me for a long time. Some of the these newer games are 100GB+ in size, or larger. My first pick would have been Samsun or WD. Due to using their HDs in my various computers over the years. But they were either sold out, or didn't have them in the size I wanted. So I took a chance on Sabrent and I've been very happy with it.

The SSD bay does have airflow, but the PS5 uses negative pressure in that slot to draw the heat from that vent. Not the most ideal method, but as long as your heatsink is actually a functional heatsink and not just useless scrap metal then it will do the job.
Sabrent, and IIRC, one of either ADATA or PNY has a specialty Proprietary heatsink cover that improves on Sony's original method of managing those temps.

I bought my first M.2 ssd a year ago. It was fine with an OS being installed and ran from it, but would cause crashes and lockups if I played games from it. Being relatively new to them, I had no idea that they needed heat shields. My motherboard didn't come with any and neither did the M.2. ssd. Figured it out a couple of months ago. A $12 fix (pack of 2) solved my problems. It's still in the cooler months where I'm at, but the temps on both of my M.2's rarely get above 35c when gaming. The ones I got were heat shields for both sides (even though both M.2's are one sided). Nothing fancy. I said all of that to say that you'd think that the PS5's would have, at a bare minimum, fanless vents for that slot. Then again, there shouldn't be any heat from the processor/gpu combo getting to it. Maybe it'll be alright?
