I used dch driver without no issues since I fixed the nvidia driver crashing since the launch of dch driver I upgrade it as usual over the older driver. I dont use ddu which wipes out the tdr registry every single time I update. And the trouble using the ddu is it wipes out the nvidia control panel settings for every application so you end up tweaking it again which is a pain in my opinion

Pro tip: make sure you really look at what you need. I bought a single 500 gig ssd and quockly realized I was out of space and had to buy another. Also, ensure that you research to see when new parts are coming out to see if you should wait. A month or two after I built my PC with a 2070 the 2070 super came out for like 50 dollars less than I paid for mine. Lol
I'd suggest starting with a budget and look for a good build video and copy their part list and you're good to go. That's what I recently did and couldn't be happier with it.

Pro tip: after getting Windows up to date, run "disk cleanup" and delete the old Windows installation files freeing up 20 GB plus on your operating system drive. You're welcome.
Yes, right click on drive > properties > "disk Cleanup box (about 2/3rd of the way down on the right) Or, enter "disk cleanup" in the Windows search bar and select the drive you wish to cleanup.@@JLRvirtuoso

Chibuike Enebeli :: Make sure your LAN driver is installed. Also, make sure you don’t need to connect the antenna that may have come with your motherboard. The last thing to consider is that your motherboard doesn’t have a built-in wireless adapter, in which case you’ll need an ethernet cable.
J&N Airsoft nah you’ll be fine, just think of all the components as Lego for adults! Most things are labelled which makes it easier to put together, just do as much research as possible and you’ll be completely fine! Unless you get REALLY unlucky and get a bad psu or something

Ive built 100s including custom water loops. I also have two OT degrees so do alot software ect and inside windows troubleshooting and i still watch these for fun.
Another important NVIDIA Control Panel option is Threaded Optimization - a LOT of games run better with this OFF, though your milage may vary. If you're experiencing inexplicable stuttering in a resource-intensive game, consider disabling this.
Honestly the rule of thumb I've adopted is only touching the NVIDIA Control Panel if I REALLY need the extra performance. If I'm already maxing my monitor HZ and it's stable, it doesn't NEED tweaking. But for something like CS2 I will tweak and find the best possible settings.

Hey, I already have Windows installed on my SSD but it's not running fine. I want to do a clean install but how do I first completely remove the current installation from the SSD?
@@criskobeats just boot up from the installation media and once you're at the step, where you choose the disk and partition to install the windows, all you need to do (considering you don't want to change the layout of the partitions and want to use the same partition as before) is delete the old windows install partition and recreate it. Then you can select "clean" partition to install windows again.
@@zlobaplays I want to change it from my Old SSD to the new one, also I want to make sure that there are no residual files left from the previous installation cuz it was faulty. Also I have my personal files on a separate HDD, since I don't wanna risk deleting them by mistake - is it ok if I just unplug it from the motherboard before all this and then when the new windows is installed plug it in, will this work?
@@tribalhumor6684 if your board came supported for your cpu and your not running into problems. The only reason would be if there is some security flaw to patch or feature you need. In bios (or CPUz) you can see what version you have and on the motherboard bios page it should walk you through what the new ones add if you needed it.

I built my first PC from scratch in November 2021, and this video was my 100% step by step after the physical PC was put together and plugged in. I've had so much fun improving and tinkering with the build since, but it wouldn't have been possible without your walkthrough on the things I wouldn't have known I needed to do before thinking I was "done" with the original build!
I’ve watched this video 3 time and just ordered all my parts so I’ll be back again Update: Surprisingly easier than I thought. Had issues with it going to sleep and not waking up instead of restarting but I just turned off fast boot and everything has been running fine all week
This video saved my pc. Didn't realize windows installs old video drivers. Old drivers caused several BSODs when gaming. Clean install fixed everything. Lifesaver!

You have F2P games such as Apex Legends and other stuff. Plus, if you been on PC and using Steam, you most likely alrerady have games to play with and with the Epic Games Store offering free games...
Tip: if you don't want to use the 3 security questions, don't enter a password during setup (you can leave the field blank). It will then skip the security questions. After setup, add a password through computer management or settings-users accounts

Be sure to buy a USB stick that´s "really over 8Gb" to install windows, most brands will market 8gb media but will only be about 7,8gb and Windows will not allow you to install from that stick.
@@JJFlores197 I´ve tried to use a transcend 8gb usb drive and after following all instructions in windows website to create an installation media, an insufficient memory error came up before anything was written into it. The 8gb drive was formatted and totally ready but it had actually a little less than 8gb, like 7,8gb. It´s not how much space the files will use, it´s the space that windows requires from the drive. Maybe there are other drives that are marketed as 8gb with actual 8gb space in them Idk
@@tomasgrimm3086 Drive manufacturers use base 10 to describe drive sizes. Windows uses base 2, so there will be discrepancies between the actual capacity of the drive and what Windows sees. You’ll always have less space on a drive than what it shows up as.

Just want to thankyou jay for your videos. In the space of a week I've gone from having very limited pc knowledge, to designing and building my 1st pc to progress my dive down the rabbit hole of sim racing. Going from assembling, installing windows, undervolting my 12900k to get temps down and stress testing the build. Was also good to share the 1st build with my 8 year old son and get him hands on with me. Cheers 🍻, I'm now an avid follower for jayztwocents.
When I decided to build a pc when I was about 16 I researched parts and build guides every day for a while until I felt proficient enough to buy the best parts in my price range and build it. I knew more about different parts and functions that I probably needed to, and when I was done building I turned it on and had 0 clue what to do next. I had no idea how to get windows on my computer and didn’t even know what a driver was. Just shows no matter how much you spend on a pc, optimizing and using the damn thing are most important.
Yep we just want to start gaming on something decent. I read up a bit on what I needed, got some advice from a friend and bought the best I could afford. Screwing it all together looks straightforward but setting up the OS is going to be the complicated part I think.

KipacWF That’s a horrible method.... I’m not talking about a timespy score or something. I’m talking about like when you run the GTA bench mark and it gives you back a bunch of frame rates and frame times and about what data to keep And what’s less important for comparisons, etc.

Thanks so much, Jay. Just built my (er-- mid-range) budget system: CPU: Ryzen 5 7600x, GPU: RX 6700xt, Mobo: Gigabyte B650, RAM: 32gb DDR5, Storage: 2TB NVME, Case: Antec DF 700, PSU: EVGA 750W. I did every step of your video and got Win 11 installed. Thanks so much. Relatively painless. All stock, no overclocks. Enabled XMP, and set it to stock 6000 mhz --no memory training. So weird not having drive bays. Case runs quiet and cold. Definitely an upgrade from my old I5 3570k system. Love it.
@Chris Endres Ichanged my ram frequency to my maximum performance my ram sticks could handle (3600mhz) saved en exit it now my pc doesnt start again all the fans are on exept display of my bios or anything

This is especially useful for motherboard drivers. It ensures anything and everything on that board will work. It's rare but sometimes a device might not work which could be your network card, and no internet means no fixing.
I do this since windows 98. Download all necessary stuff 1st in a separate media (back then cd,dvd now days usb) . Then unplug net , install Windows, then install all then disabled all privacy and spyware stuff. Then pug into net.
TheSkepticSkwerl learned that back on the am3 boards, confused as shit... finally looked in the box and saw the cd and went “oh” now having built more computers usbs are amazing

Hey Jay, case you didn't know by now, monitors have specific drivers on their own manufacturer's support page. That makes Windows completely understand all the capabilities that a specific monitor can and cannot do/support. I could see that your Windows said "Generic PnP display" which means Windows doesn't the heck know what kind of monitor is connected to your Graphics Card. You just need to search on the their website, with your monitor's model number and go to download and then drivers.
@@PyroInstitut no problem my friend! I almost fried a monitor back in the day. I selected a resolution I wanted but didn't know the monitor couldn't support it so, it went black and monitor status light started blinking non stop. Had to use SafeStart and revert the resolution/hz back to previous setting and do normal restart to get it back up and running. Then someone told about monitor drivers and went to get it. Next thing I know, the resolution I selected and failed, wasn't even in the preset parameters anymore, ergo, it didn't support the res in the first place. Lesson learnt!

Something I wish I had known when I did my first build: if you're installing Windows 10 without a key but plan on purchasing a key after the install, make damn sure you select the version of Windows 10 you're going to get the key for. I made this mistake. I installed Windows 10 Home thinking that I could just put in my Windows 10 Pro key. Nope. Guess who had to install Windows again? This idiot. You live and you learn. Definitely taught me a lesson for future builds.
You don’t actually need to reinstall Windows. You can convert the version of Windows you’re using. I’ve done it successfully before via the Windows Update -> Activation section in the Windows 10 settings.
Thank you for making this video. I literally had NO idea that you had to optimize your memory frequency in bios - I figured you stick it in there and the system automatically runs at max specs! You’re the man!
If you don't have a job (retired) or study (except for reading books) and you need sleep, there is basically still not enough time to play games. This is mostly because as you get older it takes you twice as long to do anything as it used to.

Same here. I convinced my girlfriend who was a PlayStation gamer to join me and my friends on PC. all the parts are ordered so all that’s left is to put it all together when they arrive. I wish you all the best of luck in putting together yours. Also, if you need a couple of extra friends on steam, I could use more crew members for games like GTA.
Been building PCs since 95. Just want to say I am always open to new tricks. It is what makes us better. Jay and some of the other YT channels have taught me several ways to make this process better. This video helped me a lot. If anyone is installing windows 11, there is no "I don't have access to internet", you'll have to take an extra step for that option to populate.

Yeah I'm glad I found this particular video... I had started piecing together my PC build in 2019... then the Pandemic hit and things got real expensive real quick lol. But, I'm using this processor with similar memory with a MB from 2019... so this kinda fits the bill so to speak. I haven't built a computer for probably 25 years. Even though it costs more to build your own, it is worth it to me to not have to deal with all that bloatware they pre-load on the built systems. Going for a clean install with no crap lol
@@Cowboy_Steve It is actually supposed to be "cheaper" to build your own since you won't have to deal with the upcharge system builders put on their PC's because they need to cover labor costs. It all depends on what you can find. Sometimes it's more, sometimes less. I also very recently built a PC (literally finished it on Monday 11-28). It's a first for me as well even though I have added/removed components for years from custom configurators like CyberPowerPC. I got them because they were convenient. I have, more or less, "built" a PC, just not from the ground up. I've been wanting to build my own from scratch for a while so I just went and did it. Such a fun process, but tedious at times. Lol I was able to save money by not needing HDDs since I pulled those out of my old PC to use in the new one. Got some killer deals over black friday and cyber monday as well, which helps alot. Total cost for my build was $1,853.39: i7 12700k EVGA RTX 3070 32GB DDR5 Corsair Vengeance Asus Prime Z690-P motherboard Corsair cooler, fans, and 4000D Airflow I even got a free WD Black SN850x M.2 since Amazon messed up on the refund. I used this for the boot drive. So flippin' fast! Putting the same build together from Origin PC and CyberPowerPC, even with the BF and CM sale prices, each came out to over 2k or more. Couple this with the California middle class inflation relief money I was qualified for (350 bucks), it made this build a steal! So take 350 off the 1,800. I feel like I scored as a first timer. Lol Oh, and it runs cool, quiet, and FAST!

This is by far the most useful video I have watched during my "first build adventure", I mostly managed to build it without needing too much guidance but I would not have been able to do this without you, thanks.
Rookie error mistake on my part: Make sure you unpack any motherboard driver downloads before installing them, Specially if you've pulled them from a flash drive to keep your system offline for as long as possible. For a first time builder, that caused me a HUGE pile of stress trying to work out why the setups weren't compatible before going 'Ohh... I AM LE DERP' Also making sure things you're trying to use like onboard audio are actually switched on in the BIOS before trying to install drivers. Again, if you don't know what you're doing like I was, more headaches. Worth it, though! Definitely worth it

That's the same type of thing I do but I learned two things: 1) unplug from the internet, 2) don't do any memory or CPU overclocking until done windows install.

2 years on and it's still a well-made How-To. One thing I will add, if you right-click the start button, you can go to Disk Manager (or a bunch of other system admin/management tools) from that menu.
FYI: You can actually make a local account even when you're connected to the internet. There should be an option that you click when it's asking you to make an account at the bottom that says "create a local account instead", or something along those lines :)
Even with the Ethernet cable plugged in you can install Windows without a Microsoft account. Just select "offline account" in de left bottom corner and then select again the option in the left bottom corner (don't know the wording right now).
IIRC, this used to be an option, but has since been removed as of a certain version of the windows install media tool. If you're using a disc or a USB stick with an old version you may have it, but the one you download today will not and disconnecting internet is the only way to force it.
One thing about an offline account, if you upgrade your hardware, you can lose your activation. With an account linked to an email, your key is stored against that email and you can activate a fresh install instantly. If you've got xbox, you can just use that account. I had to buy a new key when I upgraded to Ryzen, but I got one off ebay.
another excellent video. I built my first computer back in the mid 90s. I knew nothing, and I mean nothing, about computers. A friend was kind enough to give me a Packard Bell computer. It was running Windows 3.1. I used that for about a year and really got into it. I started reading computer magazines. After a year or so I felt like I outgrew that machine so I ordered a case with the motherboard installed from Tiger Direct. Don't ask me how but I got the parts I needed, put them all together and lo and behold, it booted up! A friend lent me his Windows 95 disc and I was off and running. Never looked back. Been hooked ever since. Eventually ended up working in IT for 20 years. Have built many computers for myself over the years. Sure could have used youtube back then. I still watch channels like yours and I still learn things. Thanks for all that you do for the computing community.
If i fuck up to the point I need to re install the os, downloading windows and making a bootable USB will be the least of my problems. You got mess something up colossally to need a format these days.
What to do after building: 1:Instantly start regretting the parts you bought 2:2 days later find the parts being 20% off. 3:Realize you don't, and didn't need the extra power. And instant regret. 4:if purchased from micro center, take it all back and lie about how nothing works with some well thought out story which wasn't needed. Get a gift card cause you don't feel like waiting, and enter yourself into a perpetual state of returning and buying from Microcenter/amazon.
@@simearsov If you're just doing 1080p, I wouldn't regret it too much. Just get a nice overclock on that 1660 super and you should be pretty good ;) But yeah, 2060 is better lol.
@@davichan9286 Yea, 1080p on a 75Hz monitor, so 75 FPS, but I will definitely upgrade in the future. I guess the 2k RTX series will get cheaper by then. It was like a 100e($110) difference between my 3 fan 1660s and the cheapest 2 fan 2060 KFA2, so that's why I went with the 1660s. I mean, I don't trust the 1 fan GPUs. I definitely could've cut some corners.
@@simearsov you made the right choice. I love to repurpose my cards. So I took my 1060 3gb which is garbage compared to your card, and I built an arcade cabinet and built a mini pc with it inside. Plays every system. Or I'll make a lil starter system for a family member. $110 is a big save. Nothing to sneeze at for sure.

Unfortunately the biggest issue people have is not addressed. Windows installation now requires a connection, yet the drivers for connecting to internet are not installed. So the hard part is getting those installed manually through command prompt. There’s also the fact that you can’t pair bluetooth devices so you’ll need a wired keyboard/mouse. If you have those, then you can bypass the connection step , then when on desktop, manually install the drivers from a usb for internet from your MB support page. Again this was the biggest pain for a new setup^ and sadly it was skipped over in this video as ms no longer allows you to just not be connected to internet and skip it. They want everyone using a ms account, not local.

@@ItsLipNix You made a new build with a clean install of windows? Newest win11 install requires internet unless use cmd to bypass it, maybe you used an older windows? Motherboards don’t have drivers pre installed for int/wifi. The average user does not know how to install the internet drivers through cmd, they’d want access to the desktop first. Anyways it’s simple once you know how to fix it it. The problem is most users aren’t expecting their wifi/eth to not work, and then told to install drivers before they can even access desktop. It’s a windows install problem that causes unnecessary issues. Congrats if you somehow avoided it. Google shows it’s quite common regardless.
I generally don’t mess with XMP because sometimes it won’t work (for example, last time I installed a set of 3200mhz sticks from crucial. It won’t boot with XMP enabled for whatever reason). However I lately have been getting success with Corsair RAM.
Thanks for this. I noticed my RAM wasn't running at the advertised speed so I e-mailed the hardware store I bought my components from. They were able to tell me this as well. Turns out it's actually in the manual of my motherboard, which wasn't included in the box. So I'm happy you're here to make these videos, great content.

19:27 - Just wanted to say thanks for the tip on entering the BIOS more easily by using the steps starting with Shift-Restart. I have Fast Boot enabled in the BIOS, which skips the scanning of keyboard input during the POST, so this tip was very handy to keep the boot process speedy, while still allowing me to make the occasional BIOS tweak. 👍

Crap. We meant to mention this. If you encounter this you’ll need to download it from the Microsoft store. I can’t remember why Microsoft started requiring this but it’s becoming more common with version 19XX and newer

I used dch driver without no issues since I fixed the nvidia driver crashing since the launch of dch driver I upgrade it as usual over the older driver. I dont use ddu which wipes out the tdr registry every single time I update. And the trouble using the ddu is it wipes out the nvidia control panel settings for every application so you end up tweaking it again which is a pain in my opinion
I see it after almost every install now, not sure what trigger it, but downloading from the microsoft store fixes it.

Pro tip: make sure you really look at what you need. I bought a single 500 gig ssd and quockly realized I was out of space and had to buy another. Also, ensure that you research to see when new parts are coming out to see if you should wait. A month or two after I built my PC with a 2070 the 2070 super came out for like 50 dollars less than I paid for mine. Lol
I'd suggest starting with a budget and look for a good build video and copy their part list and you're good to go. That's what I recently did and couldn't be happier with it.

The last thing to consider is that your motherboard doesn’t have a built-in wireless adapter, in which case you’ll need an ethernet cable.

Ive built 100s including custom water loops. I also have two OT degrees so do alot software ect and inside windows troubleshooting and i still watch these for fun.
Another important NVIDIA Control Panel option is Threaded Optimization - a LOT of games run better with this OFF, though your milage may vary. If you're experiencing inexplicable stuttering in a resource-intensive game, consider disabling this.

Honestly the rule of thumb I've adopted is only touching the NVIDIA Control Panel if I REALLY need the extra performance. If I'm already maxing my monitor HZ and it's stable, it doesn't NEED tweaking. But for something like CS2 I will tweak and find the best possible settings.
I've built countless PC's for friends, family and customers. This is the one video that I keep returning to, time and time again. Jay has the best method to completely setting up a brand new PC and he shows you all the little tricks and tips that save you so much time. Hey, I already have Windows installed on my SSD but it's not running fine. I want to do a clean install but how do I first completely remove the current installation from the SSD?
@@criskobeats just boot up from the installation media and once you're at the step, where you choose the disk and partition to install the windows, all you need to do (considering you don't want to change the layout of the partitions and want to use the same partition as before) is delete the old windows install partition and recreate it. Then you can select "clean" partition to install windows again.
@@zlobaplays I want to change it from my Old SSD to the new one, also I want to make sure that there are no residual files left from the previous installation cuz it was faulty.
Also I have my personal files on a separate HDD, since I don't wanna risk deleting them by mistake - is it ok if I just unplug it from the motherboard before all this and then when the new windows is installed plug it in, will this work?

@@tribalhumor6684 if your board came supported for your cpu and your not running into problems. The only reason would be if there is some security flaw to patch or feature you need. In bios (or CPUz) you can see what version you have and on the motherboard bios page it should walk you through what the new ones add if you needed it.

I built my first PC from scratch in November 2021, and this video was my 100% step by step after the physical PC was put together and plugged in. Be sure to buy a USB stick that´s "really over 8Gb" to install windows, most brands will market 8gb media but will only be about 7,8gb and Windows will not allow you to install from that stick.
? I've used 8GB USB drives without problems. The Windows installation files will not take up more than around 4-5GB so an 8GB USB drive will be fine.
@@JJFlores197 I´ve tried to use a transcend 8gb usb drive and after following all instructions in windows website to create an installation media, an insufficient memory error came up before anything was written into it. The 8gb drive was formatted and totally ready but it had actually a little less than 8gb, like 7,8gb. It´s not how much space the files will use, it´s the space that windows requires from the drive. Maybe there are other drives that are marketed as 8gb with actual 8gb space in them Idk
@@tomasgrimm3086 Drive manufacturers use base 10 to describe drive sizes. Windows uses base 2, so there will be discrepancies between the actual capacity of the drive and what Windows sees. You’ll always have less space on a drive than what it shows up as.
and also USB3 for less annoyance and slowness while transferring files. have multiple thumb drives, label them.

When I decided to build a pc when I was about 16 I researched parts and build guides every day for a while until I felt proficient enough to buy the best parts in my price range and build it. I knew more about different parts and functions that I probably needed to, and when I was done building I turned it on and had 0 clue what to do next. I had no idea how to get windows on my computer and didn’t even know what a driver was. Just shows no matter how much you spend on a pc, optimizing and using the damn thing are most important.
Yep we just want to start gaming on something decent. I read up a bit on what I needed, got some advice from a friend and bought the best I could afford. Screwing it all together looks straightforward but setting up the OS is going to be the complicated part I think.

That’s a horrible method.... I’m not talking about a timespy score or something. I’m talking about like when you run the GTA bench mark and it gives you back a bunch of frame rates and frame times and about what data to keep And what’s less important for comparisons, etc.

So weird not having drive bays. Case runs quiet and cold. Definitely an upgrade from my old I5 3570k system. Love it.

Pro Tip: Download all your drivers, tools, must haves to a USB drive before hand and use that to install everything after OS is installed.
I definitely second this. So much faster and allows you to install everything even if you don't have internet.
This is especially useful for motherboard drivers. It ensures anything and everything on that board will work. It's rare but sometimes a device might not work which could be your network card, and no internet means no fixing.
I do this since windows 98. Download all necessary stuff 1st in a separate media (back then cd,dvd now days usb) . Then unplug net , install Windows, then install all then disabled all privacy and spyware stuff. Then pug into net.

Hey Jay, case you didn't know by now, monitors have specific drivers on their own manufacturer's support page. That makes Windows completely understand all the capabilities that a specific monitor can and cannot do/support. I could see that your Windows said "Generic PnP display" which means Windows doesn't the heck know what kind of monitor is connected to your Graphics Card. You just need to search on the their website, with your monitor's model number and go to download and then drivers.

@@PyroInstitut no problem my friend! I almost fried a monitor back in the day. I selected a resolution I wanted but didn't know the monitor couldn't support it so, it went black and monitor status light started blinking non stop. Had to use SafeStart and revert the resolution/hz back to previous setting and do normal restart to get it back up and running. Then someone told about monitor drivers and went to get it. Next thing I know, the resolution I selected and failed, wasn't even in the preset parameters anymore, ergo, it didn't support the res in the first place. Lesson learnt!

Something I wish I had known when I did my first build: if you're installing Windows 10 without a key but plan on purchasing a key after the install, make damn sure you select the version of Windows 10 you're going to get the key for. I made this mistake. I installed Windows 10 Home thinking that I could just put in my Windows 10 Pro key. Nope. Guess who had to install Windows again? This idiot. You live and you learn. Definitely taught me a lesson for future builds.

You don’t actually need to reinstall Windows. You can convert the version of Windows you’re using. I’ve done it successfully before via the Windows Update -> Activation section in the Windows 10 settings.

This video helped me a lot. If anyone is installing windows 11, there is no "I don't have access to internet", you'll have to take an extra step for that option to populate.

Yeah I'm glad I found this particular video... I had started piecing together my PC build in 2019... then the Pandemic hit and things got real expensive real quick lol. But, I'm using this processor with similar memory with a MB from 2019... so this kinda fits the bill so to speak. I haven't built a computer for probably 25 years. Even though it costs more to build your own, it is worth it to me to not have to deal with all that bloatware they pre-load on the built systems. Going for a clean install with no crap lol

It is actually supposed to be "cheaper" to build your own since you won't have to deal with the upcharge system builders put on their PC's because they need to cover labor costs.
It all depends on what you can find. Sometimes it's more, sometimes less.
I also very recently built a PC (literally finished it on Monday 11-28). It's a first for me as well even though I have added/removed components for years from custom configurators like CyberPowerPC. I got them because they were convenient. I have, more or less, "built" a PC, just not from the ground up. I've been wanting to build my own from scratch for a while so I just went and did it. Such a fun process, but tedious at times. Lol
I was able to save money by not needing HDDs since I pulled those out of my old PC to use in the new one.
Got some killer deals over black friday and cyber monday as well, which helps alot.
Total cost for my build was $1,853.39:

Couple this with the California middle class inflation relief money I was qualified for (350 bucks), it made this build a steal! So take 350 off the 1,800.

This is by far the most useful video I have watched during my "first build adventure", I mostly managed to build it without needing too much guidance but I would not have been able to do this without you, thanks.
Great video. The only thing that was missing is how to stress test to make sure all the components are working properly
Rookie error mistake on my part: Make sure you unpack any motherboard driver downloads before installing them, Specially if you've pulled them from a flash drive to keep your system offline for as long as possible. For a first time builder, that caused me a HUGE pile of stress trying to work out why the setups weren't compatible before going 'Ohh... I AM LE DERP'
Also making sure things you're trying to use like onboard audio are actually switched on in the BIOS before trying to install drivers. Again, if you don't know what you're doing like I was, more headaches. Worth it, though! Definitely worth it

That's the same type of thing I do but I learned two things: 1) unplug from the internet, 2) don't do any memory or CPU overclocking until done windows install.

2 years on and it's still a well-made How-To. One thing I will add, if you right-click the start button, you can go to Disk Manager (or a bunch of other system admin/management tools) from that menu.
FYI: You can actually make a local account even when you're connected to the internet. There should be an option that you click when it's asking you to make an account at the bottom that says "create a local account instead", or something along those lines :)
Even with the Ethernet cable plugged in you can install Windows without a Microsoft account. Just select "offline account" in de left bottom corner and then select again the option in the left bottom corner (don't know the wording right now).
IIRC, this used to be an option, but has since been removed as of a certain version of the windows install media tool. If you're using a disc or a USB stick with an old version you may have it, but the one you download today will not and disconnecting internet is the only way to force it.
One thing about an offline account, if you upgrade your hardware, you can lose your activation. With an account linked to an email, your key is stored against that email and you can activate a fresh install instantly.
If you've got xbox, you can just use that account.
I had to buy a new key when I upgraded to Ryzen, but I got one off ebay.

another excellent video. I built my first computer back in the mid 90s. I knew nothing, and I mean nothing, about computers. A friend was kind enough to give me a Packard Bell computer. It was running Windows 3.1. I used that for about a year and really got into it. I started reading computer magazines. After a year or so I felt like I outgrew that machine so I ordered a case with the motherboard installed from Tiger Direct. Don't ask me how but I got the parts I needed, put them all together and lo and behold, it booted up! A friend lent me his Windows 95 disc and I was off and running. Never looked back. Been hooked ever since. Eventually ended up working in IT for 20 years. Have built many computers for myself over the years. Sure could have used youtube back then. I still watch channels like yours and I still learn things. Thanks for all that you do for the computing community.
My #1 Tip: Keep a bootable USB programmed and ready at all times in a drawer. Label it with tape so that no one confuses it.
Just label it as "sex tape", so no one will touch it.

What to do after building:
1:Instantly start regretting the parts you bought
2:2 days later find the parts being 20% off.
3:Realize you don't, and didn't need the extra power. And instant regret.
4:if purchased from micro center, take it all back and lie about how nothing works with some well thought out story which wasn't needed. Get a gift card cause you don't feel like waiting, and enter yourself into a perpetual state of returning and buying from Microcenter/amazon.

@@simearsov If you're just doing 1080p, I wouldn't regret it too much. Just get a nice overclock on that 1660 super and you should be pretty good ;)

@@davichan9286 Yea, 1080p on a 75Hz monitor, so 75 FPS, but I will definitely upgrade in the future. I guess the 2k RTX series will get cheaper by then. It was like a 100e($110) difference between my 3 fan 1660s and the cheapest 2 fan 2060 KFA2, so that's why I went with the 1660s. I mean, I don't trust the 1 fan GPUs. I definitely could've cut some corners.
@@simearsov you made the right choice. I love to repurpose my cards. So I took my 1060 3gb which is garbage compared to your card, and I built an arcade cabinet and built a mini pc with it inside. Plays every system.
Or I'll make a lil starter system for a family member. $110 is a big save. Nothing to sneeze at for sure.

Such an amazing video. I've used this for reference on multiple computers now, as well as when I had to do a complete rewrite and install of windows one time. Thank you Jay and friends!
Unfortunately the biggest issue people have is not addressed. Windows installation now requires a connection, yet the drivers for connecting to internet are not installed. So the hard part is getting those installed manually through command prompt. There’s also the fact that you can’t pair bluetooth devices so you’ll need a wired keyboard/mouse. If you have those, then you can bypass the connection step , then when on desktop, manually install the drivers from a usb for internet from your MB support page.
Again this was the biggest pain for a new setup^ and sadly it was skipped over in this video as ms no longer allows you to just not be connected to internet and skip it. They want everyone using a ms account, not local.

You made a new build with a clean install of windows? Newest win11 install requires internet unless use cmd to bypass it, maybe you used an older windows?
Motherboards don’t have drivers pre installed for int/wifi. The average user does not know how to install the internet drivers through cmd, they’d want access to the desktop first.
Anyways it’s simple once you know how to fix it it. The problem is most users aren’t expecting their wifi/eth to not work, and then told to install drivers before they can even access desktop. It’s a windows install problem that causes unnecessary issues.
Congrats if you somehow avoided it. Google shows it’s quite common regardless.

@@future8746 If you're running a Gigabyte Mobo like Jay's I found it under MIT - Advance Memory and XMP.
I generally don’t mess with XMP because sometimes it won’t work (for example, last time I installed a set of 3200mhz sticks from crucial. It won’t boot with XMP enabled for whatever reason). However I lately have been getting success with Corsair RAM.
Thanks for this. I noticed my RAM wasn't running at the advertised speed so I e-mailed the hardware store I bought my components from. They were able to tell me this as well. Turns out it's actually in the manual of my motherboard, which wasn't included in the box. So I'm happy you're here to make these videos, great content.

19:27 - Just wanted to say thanks for the tip on entering the BIOS more easily by using the steps starting with Shift-Restart. I have Fast Boot enabled in the BIOS, which skips the scanning of keyboard input during the POST, so this tip was very handy to keep the boot process speedy, while still allowing me to make the occasional BIOS tweak. 👍
