My parents religion taught us to eat wheat and it was even in their scriptures. After realizing the religion was built from lies, on a great many things wheat was removed from the diet. lost 100 pounds in 7 months, my son lost 70, wife lost 50 and looked about 15 yrs younger.

That is such a powerful story. I have been fully carnivore for almost 14 months now and sometimes I still grieve over the relationships and opportunities that I lost or missed out on because of what food was doing to my mental health.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I am treating my 18 year old son with ketogenic metabolic therapy for his schizophrenia (no medications) and twice he has been accidentally knocked out of ketosis (not enough fat/too much protein) and he almost immediately goes into manic psychosis. He is non-verbal so he is not able/willing to express what is happening. Once I get him back into ketosis he still has some symptoms of his illness but his mood and mania and psychosis are back under control and he is back in a relaxed and controlled state. I feel like “regular people or psychiatrists” think this is silly or untrue and if I was not living it and seeing it happen to him I probably would be skeptical too that food can make that much of a change in the symptoms of a severe mental illness. I hope more are willing to share their experiences so people realize how powerful food is.

I stopped eating sugar and processed foods in 1989. I went years without them then 5 years ago went on keto diet and rationalized artificial sweeteners were OK to use. The craving to eat more of the grass fed whipped cream with artificial sweetener made me worried that I was too compulsive with it so after a number of months I gave up the artificial sweeteners. I started strict carnivore, mostly lion's diet, may 2024. I am a therapist also. This story really makes me wonder how many people could get relief from depression with carnivore. I mention it to my clients and no one has been willing to try it. Thanks for telling us what happened when you ate the honey. You sure had to pay a high cost but maybe in the long run it will helps others so much it will serve its purpose. For me it is making me grateful I have not given into my desire to eat honey or sugar to any degree for 35 years.

Thanks for sharing. This is why we who have any measure of influence in this space should be careful with recommendations of things like honey and other carbohydrates as a feature of the diet. The unintended consequences can be no joke.
If anyone isn't familiar with bipolar or know someone dealing with it, I recommend checking out the movie Touched With Fire with Katie Holmes. Everyone's manifestation of it is different, but this film will give you a small idea. It was actually written by Paul Dalio, the son of famous hedge fund investor, Ray Dalio of Bridgewater, who some of you may know of. Paul is bipolar.

Saladino is one of my 29 yr old son’s carnivore (which he’s NOT a carnivore bc he eats honey and fruit and God knows what else!) heros…
BUT my son is young, super healthy, a gym rat with a “6-pack”….
I had suffered for decades with bipolar depression, anxiety, ADHD and a bit of OCD, and out all of these mental health conditions into full and complete remission with a carnivore diet and lifestyle.
If I added fruit and honey to my diet, I truly believe those mental conditions would come back BIGTIME, not to mention those “sweet tastes” (as Kelly Hogan calls them) would trigger my sugar and carb addiction and cause me to fall into the “Carb Ditch” (as Dr Lisa Wiedeman calls it)….
Paul Saladino is a younger guy in perfect physical and mental health, he surfs and work out daily, he’s got zero mental or physical health issues, and can eat honey and fruit without any negative consequences.
But for the majority of people who have physical and/or mental health issues, who are obese or overweight, who are sugar/carb addicts, etc…
DITCH THE HONEY AND THE FRUIT and do carnivore as it was originally and optimally designed…
EAT MEAT, EGGS, BUTTER AND ENJOY LIFE😊😊

I also have had a lot of experience with my diet causing mental health issues, and also one time with honey. I had a bowl of kefir, honey, nuts and dried cranberries and then felt suicidal, which had been happening often at the time. Then I prayed out to God asking for help with what was going on and the answer I got was my blood sugar. So maybe that was what was going on in your case as well. Sugar spikes insulin. Insulin biologically inhibits ketone production. Literally blocks it.
Glucagon (opposite hormone of insulin) encourages ketone production.
I think ketones have a huge part to play and i think dr Chris palmer is right that mental dysfunction is likely caused by a faulty glycolysis pathway in the brain. Meaning it can't use sugar well for fuel, making it fail and malfunction.
Ketones bypass this pathway. The more messed up your pathway for sugar, the more strict you need to be about carbs. Some need to go full carnivore. Some just keto.
