why do you even care if the family is broke? If they tell you that you are supposed to support the family, run, that is a huge scam they only do to foreigners, and claim its their culture. Ask them how much is their filipino brother in law paying to the "family" the answer is always zero. Dont get scammed.

@@SimpleMansJourney nah, not completely true. Love isn't our strong suit in the Philippines, compassion is and because of that, "Noblesse Oblige." Any person who's slightly financially better than them, they'd ask for help, especially money, while others are grateful and try to pay it, psychopaths will spring in some way or another. Our OFW's treatment is always that, not only people will complain if they didn't get much, your reputation will also be damaged--maybe it's better to cut off any helping to other people except your spouse's fam or set boundaries because people here use/abuse other people's kindness.

Great topic, Calvin! I met my Filipina wife over 10 years ago and we dated for about a year before getting married. Not once did she ask me for money, nor did I offer any. She was a college graduate and had a stable job over there. Now she was not making loads of money, but enough to take care of herself and even her parents. I knew once she came to the US that she was not going to have much. I explained to her that as a military person (now retired), that I didn't make a lot so don't expect a lot. We did okay and here we're 11 years later. She now runs her own business from home and we have two kids. Best of luck to everyone out there!

If these broke women were modest, and were financially considerate, rather than abusive to their (mostly older) foreigner husbands, it would go a long way toward making a happy and peaceful home. Instead, many push their foreigner mates, nay hound them, into spending more, and often refuse to respect the family budget (i.e., by not saving and/or overspending), much less volunteer to contribute to it. Also, it would go a long way if she would show him some gratitude for all he has done/is doing, instead of compare him to others who are supposedly doing more. Great sex or no sex, a woman like this will become an albatross around her man's neck.

It depends! It depends a lot on the character of female. If she's a virgin and she's very humble, it could work. However, if she's broke with a lot children out of wedlock, she could be a major problem. My wife, who's originally from the Philippines, didn't have a job when we first meet. She was college educated, in her mid twenties, and never been involved with a man. Thus, I paid for everything at the time. Fast forward twenty years later, we're still married and l wouldn't exchange her for a mountain of gold. Why? Because, it goes back to the woman's character, which is normally based around her needs, wants and values.

@@user-tn5fz4kp8jNot every woman in the Philippines is poor. Many women may be struggling, but they know how to save money and build a better life when given an opportunity. Calvin's girlfriend Marilyn is a great example. The point is that when we are dating them, make sure they understand the value of money and hard work. Often, women like that won't waste your money or your time. When we stereotype people in third-world countries, we often miss out on experiencing the best in them.

Calvin, this is one of the most important issues that a person can learn. I am in total agreement with you. Never get involved with a man or woman who is broke. Because no matter how good you think they are, they will try to sell you false hope, for there survival. Not yours. They are only looking for a bridge to help those that they care about, and you are just the meal ticket for the moment. And if you leave, they will look for another one after you. Make sure you have a balanced relationship and don't fall for the tricks, manipulations, lies and so-called beauty, body and sex tricks. They will take advantage of your kindness and compassion to get your money. Get out of it as quickly as possible. Thanks Calvin, because without you there would be a lot of disappointed people in this world. You keep it 💯 and real.

All those years I supported her and partially her family. Today she makes twice as much as I ever did and now her mother is here working. People without enough money, seek security and money is very important. Knowing that there can be problems and understanding what may happen and making an informed decision is important. Money does not " grow on trees" and if a man spends it all in a developing land that is not his own, how does he return back home if his partner is unable to be productive and is a drain? Just have to be okay with spending your money and satisfied with return. It can be a good thing and it can be bad.

This is an issue and a topic that plays heavily on my heart, mind and soul as i think about retiring in the Philippines. In America here I have never in my life dated or married in my later years a broke women with no money. That was a principal I've always lived by, its part of my nature. All of my earlier girl freinds and wife all had money and careers, so i was never pressed to take care of everything myself. I made sure everyone shared and shared alike. Say what you want about America, one of the privilege of America is that a woman can find work, (sometimes quicker than a man) as a matter of fact many Filipinas desire to come to America for that reason alone. As much as i would love to retire in the Philippines i dont think i could ever deal with the idea of being an ATM machine for a Filipinas family ( possibly husband also) and extended family as well. If it was just her it would not be that much of an issue, i would not even mind helping her establish a small business for herself and id be more than happy if she worked somewhere, but at this stage in my retired life, i don't want to provide for and definitely not raise another family. Thats not my idea of retirement.

The women know they dont have money, so yes, they expect you to know and except this fact. There thinking we as men are willing to except this for that exchange youve talked a out. And true, theres an exchange. Men provide the financial means taking care of the women and what else she can get you to take on, and she provides herself and what it is she will do for you. This is where Vetting your girl comes in. Its upon each of us men to figure out what it is your girl brings to the table. If you dont do that, thats where it runs out of gas, gets old and on to the next ride.

My thoughts on it are slightly different. Men instinctually know and understand their roles in a relationship because we're reminded of it every day of our lives. Men know they have to create value to attract women. Being traditional in other words. We know that. The problems comes in where, especially here in the US and in Western Society women expect for the men to be and stay 'traditional'(e.g. go out get a job, work hard to provide for his woman/wife and family) etc. but then not for them to do their part(serve/take care of or nurture her man/husband and family and think they can do and say whatever it is they want. Todays men in the west have awaken and they're saying UH UH, THAT AINT HAPPENIN NO DAMN MO! FUCK THAT! You expect us to be traditional then YOU MUST BE TRADITIONAL ALSO! And that's why men in general very much appreciate the women from places like South East Asia, Central/South America, etc because those places still value traditionalism and men in general understand the plight of those women and we men as a collective know and understand that so WE DON'T DAMN MIND taking the place of the traditional man and accept fully taking care of the woman we take up with. And those women act according and we love that as men so we don't mind takinh on the role of being the financial provider. Nice one Cali Cal...
