- It's time for the DUPE CHALLENGE! This is a collaboration with over 20 other furniture flippers/refinishers/artists. The challenge is to take inspiration from a high-end furniture website (like Anthropologie, West Elm, CB2 etc.) and create a lookalike "dupe" piece on the cheap.

What I love about this one, is that you took one of those horrible cheap 80s-90s pieces and gave it new life. I love quality wood, and I actually hate to see flippers paining truly classic solid wood pieces, antiques that should be restored to their original glory. This piece is EXACTLY the kind of furniture to use if you want to paint something. Well done.

The definition of 'antique", according to Websters, is 'a decorative object made at least 100 years ago". I watch a lot of DIY / furniture restoration videos and only rarely see anyone painting a real antique, unless it's been in their family a long time. Painting true antiques can completely ruin their value. I think perhaps the term 'vintage' might be a more accurate term if you are referring to items made between 1920's or later till now. I see a lot of people painting vintage pieces. :-)

For the hardware, I'd spray paint them then spray them with a protective coat.
I love how you was fighting that Piece (well the doors lol) BUT you Won the battle and Your new TV stand came out Soo pretty and modern ..Loving those legs with the pulls totally seals the deal .. Amazing Claire...I'm binge watching all day...🥰👍❣️❣️💯

For hardware holes and such, glue in dowels, then Bondo and end with wood filler. If you decide to stain, the filler will take stain. By gluing in wood or dowels you stop the filler from shrinking. Awesome work.

Try "Plummer's Putty" to fill those indentations. It's rock hard, doesn't shrink, paintable and cheap.

I was thinking when I watched this, that maybe using kitchen cabinet hinges and looking at how they are attached may work better. I could be wrong, because I’mnot there :) but those hinges don’t look like they are going to hold up.

Can you talk about how you clean your brushes particularly after using the poly acrylic?
Hey Lena! I use water based poly so just clean with soap and water…
Looks good but it will look even better if you move the magnetic catch further forward. At the moment, the cabinet doors slope inwards at that point.

Cool. Well last time I posted one of these and said it was a tv stand everyone told me it was a microwave cart 🤦♀️ Whatever it was, it’s something different now!
Just because Anthropology charges 900. Doesn’t make it high end. It is literally a box with some brass legs. What a rip off.
