Thanks for posting this and not editing out the problems you ran into -- I'm glad you persevered and the end result looks fab!

Thanks, Lauren! Oh my goodness what a labor of love this one was haha. Have you tried using a paint sprayer yet? I know you enjoy painting with a brush and you're great at it! Just curious if you've ventured into the world of sprayers just yet? Thanks for watching!
You did a great job! Personally, for wood filler, I tend to use two different things. If it is small cracks, I collect the dust from sanding and mix it with a little wood glue. Then use that to fill the cracks. It's easy, free, available, and works great. For larger spots like filling in holes for the old hardware, I like to use Durham's Rock Hard. It comes in a powder and you add water making just what you need for the job. It also does not shrink but can only really be used on stuff you are going to paint. As to the clamp marks, when you are clamping wood, always put a scrap piece of wood between the clamp and the piece you are clamping. That way it damages the scrap wood and not your work. ;) As a bonus, wrap the scrap wood in clear packing tape and the wood glue will not stick to it. I hope you dont mind me posting these little tips. Just things i have learned over the years.
Congratulations on your tenacity! I might have quit because it was a very difficult project. You did a wonderful job & is now a beautiful Elegant & Sleek Dresser!

Durhams wood putty powder! I love it it hardens solid... I haven’t used it on a stained piece yet but on painted surfaces it’s great and since it’s powder you can mix up just what you need and whatever viscosity you want and no risk of it drying up in the tube or tube.

@@KnowCanDo I’m have trouble with a night stand. Turns out that the top is a particle board and it has bubbling all over from water damage. I tried sanding it down and removing most of the bubbles then filling it with bondo. But it still looks warped. I might have to replace the whole top 🤦🏻♀️
!! Laugh!! I have the matching particle board nightstands with the same broken handles! I mean exactly! For free! I busted one of the legs loading it into my truck. Hi Deana, Oh wow! Haha! Well..... after this piece I definitely wanted to swear off ever working with particle board again lol. But free is free! Hopefully you end up with something epic! Thanks for watching :)
Have you tried Goodfilla yet? It is a small family owned company from the upper midwest. During quarantine the founder's daughters helped him fill orders when usual staff was not available. I have used it a few times now and like it more than others I have tried thus far. It is non-shrinking, stainable and paintable. It is nice and smooth and comes in a variety of colors. I just went with neutral which is an off-white. I might try a light wood color and maybe a dark wood color the next time I get it.
Hi Kari! No, I hadn't heard of that before! I will definitely check that out, I love supporting small businesses whenever possible. Thanks for the tip, and thanks for watching!
As far as the dupe is concerned, I think you did the best for the piece you had. The main thing was that the drawer configuration was so different. Also, discovering that you had particle board was a bit of a bummer. One furniture flipper that I watch really likes DAP Premium Wood Filler. I don't know if you have tried that one or not. I have seen some use Bondo for furniture and even various types of epoxy for filling wood. All around, I think the dresser looked very nice and you got your asking price...win, win. All that other stuff, you will figure out with each new piece you try. 🙂👍
Your overalls look so cute and well made! Where did you get them? Great job on this piece! I have heard that using shellac primer is a good way to seal away any stuff in the wood that would otherwise seep through paint.
Crushed it with this one!! So close to the high end one!! Oh & I completely forgot to sub after I watched your $100 Flip Challenge video!! I'm subbed now. Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!
Great job! A few mistakes along the way, which happens - you are known as Know Can Do and now you know more and the next piece will go smoother. I love this dark paint and brass/gold handles look - but would never pay 1600 for it. On a budget, that is close enough for me.
The original piece reminds me of a Broyhill collection circa 1987. I think your dupe was pretty darn good even with a comical amount of errors/misjudgements. Glad you made a few bucks on it. But it looked really, really nice when you were done and someone else knew it b/c she grabbed it up for your full price ($1400 less than MSRP : ) (msrp=mfg suggested retail price)

Awesome job giving a particle board has-been a new life! I came here after watching What NOBODY TELLS YOU About Furniture Flipping for Profit. You said you lived in a second floor apt, but you have a lot of space to work with on this vid. Did you move since then?
Thanks so much! Welcome. I still live in a 2nd story apartment, but some gracious members of my community have been letting me use their garage temporarily. :) Thanks for watching!
Did you run your top coat through a paint filter before spraying? Definitely a best practice to get a better finish (ensures no globs or trash in your piece) and extended the life of your spray gun tips.
When you spray painted the front, are the drawers slightly pulled-out to prevent the paint from drying and causing the drawers to be stuck closed? I couldn’t tell about that part.
Thanks so much, Robin! I did not sand between top coat layers. I find that that is really really really tricky to do correctly with black/dark paint furniture.
@@KnowCanDo I saw a trick that The Flipped Piece on Instagram does. She sands in between top coat with a very fine steel wool. I have tried it and turns out beautifully! 😉
Thanks for watching and so sorry about that!!! I have been having some audio inconsistency issues, but my next video coming out Monday should hopefully be louder. :)
Hi! I think your dresser looks much better. Ever tho it´s partical board it feels more "solid" thn the other one. I don´t like the base on the West Elm one at all, it just feels strange... Your base is fine, much better for the floor to.
That's a great question (or wondering rather!). Well, what I like about chalk paint is that it is water based. So there aren't bad fumes or VOCs in it. You can paint indoors and without a respirator. It can also bond really well to pretty much any surface without needing a primer (whereas I think with Latex paint you HAVE to sand and prime.. you don't HAVE TO with chalk paint I guess?). I'm still figuring it all out. I might try latex paint on a future project but I am hoping to stay away from oil based products as much as possible because of the fumes and they are hard to clean up.
I think your final product looks really nice! Another option for getting a more realistic gold look is to gold leaf it. Spray paint is interesting when it comes to metallics. Some brands look so fake and others look more realistic. Anyway, it's heart seeing you push through so many challenges and congrats on the sale!
Thanks Mari!! I appreciate it. Yeah, for sure they can be so weird. I used spray paint for a layer, then a layer of waterbased gold paint on top of that. I think gold leaf would be cool too-- please send any recommendations of your favorite products if you have some!
What a Beautiful Neighborhood you live in! What state are you in? The English House across the Street looks like a house in Venice Beach, California. Enjoying your Video too! Anne from Los Angeles
Thanks so much Anne! I am in Oregon. I love Venice Beach though! It's turning out to be a nice spring up here... hopefully it's not too hot down in LA! Thanks for watching.
@@KnowCanDo I was telling my husband how much the neighborhood looks like my hometown of Eugene, Oregon and come to find out it is Oregon. There’s nothing like it!
Thanks for the tip, Gayle! I tried it recently but it wasn't as heavy duty as I needed. I'm sticking with Bondo for now for my toughest projects, and will supplement with DB's mud as needed. Thanks for watching!
So, that was an early 2000s Maison Lenoir dresser by Broyhill, or a knockoff look-alike by Ashley. If it was Broyhill, it was almost certainly made after they moved production to Asia. The trim pieces were neither weird nor Victorian. The Maison Lenoir line, as you might be able to guess from the name, was based on late 1700s French provincial furnishings and styles. King Louis, not Queen Vic. The shapes, colors, and overall style of ML were all extremely popular just after the millennium. It seriously seemed like everyone wanted a sleigh bed and either a FR provincial or Renaissance-inspired Italianate kichen. So, no. Not weird victorian. Very very popular quasi vintage and completely out of fashion now, that's all. That dresser would have had an arched mirror, as well as the accompanying bedroom pieces of tallboy, side tables, armoire, and sleigh bed; the ML line further had living room and dining room sets. Real shame to see nobody took care of it. The pieces were very expensive, particularly for the time (teetering on the cusp of the housing mkt bust and recession that followed.) Even the look-alikes were pricey.
Yes I had an issue with audio for a while but I have since solved it! Thanks for watching and please check out my recent videos that are better audio quality :)
I had to laugh at how you took a cheap, broken dresser and made it look like a high end, very expensive piece. It is hard to believe it is the same piece.
Please improve your sound and use a primer every time on old wood. Please do not use that color of dark grey. I am so tired of grey. I like green and gold or brown and gold or any blue and silver. If you want black than use an indigo or true black and it looks better with silver.
Hi adella! To each their own in terms of colors. Gotta do what the project calls for and it’s a personal choice. I have a blue piece coming soon Thanks for watching.
I normally find myself in awe, but the execution on this project is so sloppy. From the excessive amount of glue used, the poor application of wood filler, to the lack of care when painting(Getting paint all over the drawer bottoms etc.). You could have cut the MDF legs off and put wood 4x4 in the corners to support the new angled legs. I'm sorry that I'm writing a negative comment, and I know you're not a professional, but there is so many ways this could/should have been done differently.
Of course here are so many ways I could have done it differently! But I learn through doing. How was I supposed to know all those things until I learned them? The whole point of my channel is to try things as a beginner and show my mistakes and my successes and help others learn along the way with me as I learn. I’m not sure why you wanted to comment- it’s silly to criticize me for something I cannot change literally months later! Nothin I can do about it now. But I’ve certainly learned many skills since. ITS OKAY TO MAKE MISTAKES!!!!! Cheers!
@@KnowCanDo I completely agree with you. I do, however, feel that some things in the video were more careless than not knowing how to do something. And apologies about my comment, but if someone invests their time to watch someone's content, I do believe criticism, as long as it's not toxic, isn't unfair. You have other videos where I thought you did an amazing job though. Your blue anthropology inspired chest was awesome and I can see where more care was taken. Please don't rush the little things.
Totally! This was 2 months into my flipping journey (May) whereas the Anthropologie chest was 5 months in (August). The amount I learned in those three months was absolutely critical to that project not being a total disaster! :)

The original dresser was part of a $3500 Broyhill set (king sleigh bed, two nightstands, this dresser), had a mirror attached on the back that nearly doubled the height. From around 2006. Someone did not take care of it at all.

Your overalls look so cute and well made! Where did you get them? Great job on this piece! I have heard that using shellac primer is a good way to seal away any stuff in the wood that would otherwise seep through paint.
Thanks so much! Yes shellac is great. These overalls are AWESOME and from Carharrt. Carharrt workwear overalls: amzn.to/3vl09Bz
Crushed it with this one!! So close to the high end one!! Oh & I completely forgot to sub after I watched your $100 Flip Challenge video!! I'm subbed now. Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!
Oh sweet! Thanks so much. Glad you dig it!
Great job! A few mistakes along the way, which happens - you are known as Know Can Do and now you know more and the next piece will go smoother.
I love this dark paint and brass/gold handles look - but would never pay 1600 for it. On a budget, that is close enough for me.
Totally. It's true! Also, this was almost a year ago at this point -- amazing to look back on my progress! Thanks for watching.
Thanks Katherine! Yeah.... I am still learning how to price things! :) Thanks for being here!
Thanks so much for watching! All the products I used I linked in the description, and I have a whole playlist of furniture flipping videos and flip tip videos here -- check them out: th-cam.com/play/PLleAGP8dK-OKr0jMLKwQrFW-TE0Tz2j77.html
@@KnowCanDo Enjoyed what I've watched so far and look forward to more. Good Luck on your journey!
Thanks so much!!
Nice job
Thanks so much! It was a good challenge :) Thanks for watching!
I actually like it better than the West End piece, it has more character.
Thanks Susan! I always love a handmade touch!
Well done
Great bless my friend 🤗
Thanks so much !
excellent result.
s . However the audio was lost for me until the end . You do exquisite work
Hi Ella! Thanks so much. Hmm sorry to hear about the audio issue. I hope it gets resolved! Thanks for watching and thanks for being here!
Amazing job, thks I learned a lot too ;)
Oh good! I’m glad, Christine! Thanks for watching!
Did you run your top coat through a paint filter before spraying? Definitely a best practice to get a better finish (ensures no globs or trash in your piece) and extended the life of your spray gun tips.
Hey Mari! I haven't done that yet but I was thinking I need to. Do you have any recommendations for what type of paint filter? Thanks!!
When you spray painted the front, are the drawers slightly pulled-out to prevent the paint from drying and causing the drawers to be stuck closed? I couldn’t tell about that part.
Great question... Yes, I also wanted to make sure I could still push and pull them in and out!
U could have used wood filler diluted as a form of pre coat and paint against the grid like paintbydanny?
Hi Adriana! I've never heard of that method before but I'll have to check it out! Thanks for watching :)
Love how it turned out. Did you sand in between each layer of the top coat?
Thanks so much, Robin! I did not sand between top coat layers. I find that that is really really really tricky to do correctly with black/dark paint furniture.
@@KnowCanDo I saw a trick that The Flipped Piece on Instagram does. She sands in between top coat with a very fine steel wool. I have tried it and turns out beautifully! 😉
@@donnadeleon8827 Oh that's awesome! Even on dark painted furniture?!
@@KnowCanDo yes she did this on black painted furniture. She also mixed a little black paint with her top coat!
@@donnadeleon8827 oh awesome! Love that
You should have put zinsser Binton first. Saves sooooo much time
Don’t I know it! I definitely should have but now I know
Love your videos just can't hear them, my speakers are on 100% but I still can't hear you. Last dresser was beautiful, keep up the good work!!!!
Aw, thanks so much, Anna! Yea, I agree it does seem more solid for sure. Not like it's going to tip over or something!
Bondo. There is no better wood filler than Bondo when you’re going to paint over it anyway.
I agree with you Kiki! It just took me a while to figure it out:) Thanks for watching!
I’m curious about the chalk paint vs just an oil paint. The benefits of chalk paint.
The dresser turned out nice. The audio when you talk is so quiet and then the ads are blaring. Just wanted to let you know.
Yikes! Sorry to hear that. I’ve removed all the mid roll ads from this video so hopefully that helps.
You could have mitered the wood pieces for the legs. But good job.
Thanks, Mary!
Try Dixie Bell's mud
Thanks for the tip, Gayle! I tried it recently but it wasn't as heavy duty as I needed. I'm sticking with Bondo for now for my toughest projects, and will supplement with DB's mud as needed. Thanks for watching!
Says it starts at 5:34, but it's 5:53!
Oh no! I’m sure it will finish processing soon! Some of the mysteries of TH-cam....
Hi hi! Pretty sure it was from Ashley home furniture :) Thanks so much for watching
😳🤩😍
haha! Exactly~!!!! :) Thanks for watching.
You can't compare particle board to the high end piece. Good job though.
I agree! Thanks for watching
Volume was really low and you sounded muffled.
Yes I had an issue with audio for a while but I have since solved it! Thanks for watching and please check out my recent videos that are better audio quality :)
I had to laugh at how you took a cheap, broken dresser and made it look like a high end, very expensive piece. It is hard to believe it is the same piece.
Haha thanks Liz! I agree! I definitely had my work cut out for me with this one, but it ultimately was such a good experience :)
Patience and not rushing? Also something I learned in those 3 months :)
@@KnowCanDo I'm subbing because I see your love for this, and I appreciate you as a fellow furniture reinventor. You're definitely getting better! Just never settle to get a piece done and the content out, at the sacrifice of being completely happy with your work :)
The original dresser was part of a $3500 Broyhill set (king sleigh bed, two nightstands, this dresser), had a mirror attached on the back that nearly doubled the height. From around 2006. Someone did not take care of it at all.
Hi Katie!! I am 99% sure it was from Ashley Home Furniture and was a broyhill knockoff. You are right, though, someone did not take care of it!! Thanks for watching
I bought the SAME EXACT dresser off of Facebook marketplace and plan to paint white with black hardware. I’m glad I found your video because I was about to buy the same feet you did. So happy I found your video!!
