Bleaching wood furniture? Try THIS instead!

- I know you've thought about bleaching wood furniture, and maybe you've even googled how to bleach wood furniture with household bleach.
Can it be done? Probably. But today I'm sharing an alternative way to lighten wood without bleach. This is much safer, and uses products that were MADE to be used on wood and on furniture. Hopefully this can help you lighten wood or lighten wood furniture that you have at home, and can give you a modern, updated look to old orangey oak or other old wood furniture or kitchen cabinets that you have!
What I'm showing to day, is how to lighten wood without bleach using a white washing technique. We're making a paint wash with a 3:1 ratio of water to paint, and using a chalk-style furniture paint to do so!

Hi, Clara! It’s great to see you smiling in a new video! I love white-wash and you did a great job explaining and demonstrating how to achieve this look. I did want to correct a misconception a lot of people have. You can absolutely use “wall paint” to paint furniture. I don’t recommend flat paint that was $10 a gallon but there’s nothing wrong with using latex or acrylic paint. I’ve been doing that for decades. If you are blending colors together when you paint, a chalk or clay paint is the easiest to work with for blending. You can also thin down latex/acrylic paint to do a color wash. It actually works really well. You did a lovely job on that little filing cabinet. I love how pretty the wood grain looks. Much better than the Eighties Orange!🌸

What chalk paint would you recommend for cabinets and wood trim? I’m just going to clean the wood and prob not sand them because it’s not oak wood, it’s kinda like particle board for the cabinets. They are from the 1970’s and just want to lighten them because they are so dark. I like the color of paint you have, but maybe more white. Hope this makes sense..thank you!! I’m trying to do this diy as simple as possible! 😊
