Why does virtually every test that has a Triton in it forget to mention the fact that it has full time 4x4 on the Super Select 2 transmission?? It's a massive bonus over all the part time transmissions.
While you are totally right. The available drive should be mentioned. But I can tell you from 6 years of experience with a part time 4wd Ranger in sometimes wet and snowy Germany and alot of towing that not having full time 4wd has never been a problem. When thing get slippery you can still turn on 4wd on the go. And since there is about 350kg in the bed at all times and the Ranger has 265mm wide tires all around theres hardly ever wheelspin.
@@titaniumquarrion9838 Well, since a pickups main purpose is towing and hauling while maintaining high driving stability, you can't expect superb ride comfort without a payload. Every bit of comfort you gain while beeing empty, you loose on the stability side. Thats why the 2012 Ranger was the most rigid and stable towing machine in the segment. Because it is really stiff without weight on its back. And aren't there better choices for long distance gravel/ off-road trips than a pickup anyways?
@@deanzammit2705 well I don't know about the Triton. But the Triton equivalent we get in Europe is/ was (don't know about the newest model) no good pickup. I drove one since we were searching for a replacement for our 98 Mitsubishi L200 a couple of years ago, and I was disappointed. Towed and hauled like the 98 model. Except for some more power. It's also the model that snapped in half more than a few times. But I hope sure hope the newer L200 isn't like that anymore.
@@mohamedslimani874 our triton is almost 4 years from now.. with just proper care, it is still going strong till now. You can even just give it to a detailer and itll look good as new. And yes, im replying to a year old comment
Great honest review. Triton is still the best bang for the buck, and I guess that if we trough in some data about warranty and customer support, Mitsubishi should be a clear winner.
Video just is THE MARKETING, only valueable one is selling amount... (even this can be fake), so.... Yes,, trust your own skill and experience maybe better
Reliability issues with the rangers transmission should really come under fire. Our rangers automatic transmission was replaced 3 times. The workers at ford said the company keeps brushing the issues under a rug rather than declaring recalls.. they don’t fully understand the issues so they can’t create a permanent fix. Issues including, overheating transmission, Locking in gears, computer glitches, and total lock up of wheels. Would have loved to have known before spending $50,000 on a Ute supposedly engineered for the Australian roads...
Don't feel too bad we have hi-lux Utes exclusively and they are falling apart in the cab especially and have had a lot of break downs, wish they had opted for at least a few tritons.
Worth a mention when fitting child seats in the back, the triton is the only one that makes this easy, if you fold down the centre arm rest, there are zips that let you in behind the seat to pull the straps tight.
@@frankpinion4937 They are cheaper but not really 'up there' with the others in terms of performance and general refinement. They do the job with some features reportedly clunky. Resale on them is unknown and while the purchase price is a great place to start its possibly downhill from there as the total cost of ownership is not just the buy price but the sell/trade in price as well.
Triton makes the others look outdated now which is a change from the previous generation version. Would still rather the 3.2l Ford motor but the Mitsi 2.4l is reliable and efficient
The Ford 3.2 is garbage. And not very efficient. Which is no wonder since it is old. So the new 2.0 ttdi should be the better choice. Haven't driven that unfortunately.
@@dratempest610 not my point of view. Just facts. Claims 200hp and 470nm but clearly does not have those figures. I know since I tested a 2018 3.2 with Adblue back to back with my 2012 2.2. Both manuals and the 3.2 could not tow our maxed out trailer a tiny bit better than the 2.2. Furthermore on a steep Autobahn section I had to go from 5th to third gear. Maintaining about 25mph or so. While the 2.2 did about 43mph. So all in all the 3.2 is no more powerful, less efficient and way louder inside. Plus it likes to blow up without prior signs. Wich granted some 2.2s did as well. That discovery made me very dissapointed since I was planning to replace my "old" Ranger. And it's why I look forward to testing the 2.0 with 500!nm. Cheers.
@@y4nnickschmitt very interesting mate ,but here in nz we dont have to add adblue to the Ranger and Bt50 3.2 engines, they may have been detuned if my assuming is that you live in the northern hemisphere? As for power rating here I've seen the 3.2l I5 engine tested and after market remapping of engine management systems here and our standard 3.2's are running 147kw 470nm +/- 3% there abouts and after turning (there is several different stages) anywhere from 150-175 kw and 490-580nm just with engine management tuning, all the while returning much better fuel economy! Its quite surprising how detuned the engine is. Obviously different rules and regulations on diesel engines and emissions for different countries.
Can't argue with anything in this review but unfortunately reliability and build quality can't be tested and being mainstream media you guys can't honestly offer an opinion on after sales service either. For these reasons I believe anyone seriously looking at buying one of the cars involved in any such review should do far deeper research on each make/model.
Yep, well said, as with all car reviewers if they are entirely honest and slag off a car maker's vehicle they will end up blacklisted and have no vehicles from that manufacturer to review, always worth bearing in mind, they are publicity slaves to the manufacturers.
The new MR Triton is the best off road hands down... and having the ability to go between 2wd, AWD (for use on sealed roads, wet, gravel, etc), 4wd HI and LO range is a game changer.
It’s pity you guys did not go into all the problems that the Ranger & Hilux have with warranty claims customer service & recalls etc. only have to go onto there FB page & read about all the unhappy customers. Triton would be my pick.
Darren Hodgson....exactly. they never mention ownership etc in these reviews. the importance of post purchase of a vehicle. the romance of the honey moon period dosent last long.....
And who has the most manual owner maintenance required such as doing your own burn off because the system is too hard to get it right, oh hang on only one company does that whats next do your own service at a set price and 33% more frequently than every one else.
All the people that comment "What about Colorado, what about Dmax...etc..." I think you didn't hear him say at the start "These are the top 3 sellers" .....and yes I drive a Dmax and recommend it....I do also like the new Triton though.
if the triton has screen mirror then you wouldn't need to add to the cost of the ute by adding sat nav as your phone can use google maps or another GPS ap. The 10k saved on purchase price also goes along way in modifications.
I think you really got to give the Hilux credit for it's reliability, average life span and resale value. That thing will not leave you stranded for at least 20 years. I'm not sure that ranger will hold up for 10.
Triton has realistic towing and it GMV is far superior. The other 2 can only have the driver and a tank of fuel before you are over the the legal GMV. You can take the boat but not you mates and the gear if you buy the Ford or Toyota.
I was in the market for my first dual cab ute this year. I test drove them all, even the LDV (no brand bias here). It came down to an Amarok or Ranger. The Amarok had the power advantage, but with limited rear leg room, safety concerns, no low range, and my pet hate, the indicator on the wrong side, I bought the Ranger. It is simply the best of the rest. In just about every comparison it mostly wins or comes second. I get this now, it has been impressive so far and exceeded my expectations of what a dual cab would be like to live with.
Considering the ranger and the hilux Ranger is rock solid with 3.2 5cyl diesel.. but the 2.0 4cyl doesn't do justice for the brand..technically it has 500nm of torque(50 more than the hilux) but it appears at relatively higher r.p.ms.. sure when you drive the hilux for 10kms on the outback and your spinal will break into atoms.. but the car itself will never break.. personally when I choose a car reliability comes in the first place and the rest comes afterwards.. so that my money will spent on the hilux...
@@yuwindupathirage4806 Honest question... I get the whole "unbreakable" catchphrase, but that came from the previous generation. The new Hilux is a COMPLETELY NEW engine, who actually knows if it is as unbreakable as years gone by. They haven't been around long enough to earn that badge.
@@1989cranston the same question came up back in the day when TOYOTA replaced their unbreakable(TOP GEAR proved it with a hilux) 5L engine with the new 1Kz.. but toyota got it right. 1kz held the badge in the same way that it's predecessor did... then again when they replaced it with the 1KD(The engine you find in the previous hilux) the badge was still holding by TOYOTA.. quite a time later when the 1KD got replace by the 1GD(which you find in the newer hilux) the same thing will surely happens.. toyota will hold the top reliability badge..no doubt in it.. so there you have it sir.. I guess you might have got the answer for your question. .😀
@@yuwindupathirage4806 what lol. I got zero answer to my question. Because as you literally tried to point out is that only time can answer it, not assumptions which is what you are basing your response on.
@@1989cranston despite the fact that the predecessor was reliable.. you need time to prove that the new engine is reliable enough.. that's what you meant right?.. so what I've been trying to tell is every single time when TOYOTA replaced a engine.. the successor was reliable in the same way as the predecessor... in that point this new engine which you find in the hilux should be reliable enough as the engine which it replaced...
The engineers for each brands seems to ignore every complaints, make a new models they still does not rectify or make improvements. Why was it like that??
Reliability should be a major component to these reviews. This is why I'll go hilux time and time again. I've had mine since new in 2019 and haven't had a single issue with other than standard servicing. Its been offroad more than the average owner and I'm always impressed with its ability to manoeuvre over anything. A few mechanic mates have said to me the most frequent dual cab they see in theirs shops is the ranger. They rarely see a hilux.
I fully agree with you plus hilux is the best offroader & it has more power than the Ranger... Ranger has cheap plasticy interior while the Hilux has some soft material on the dash & a cumfy stearing wheel tham the Ranger
You guys dont know anything about pick up trucks. Hilux is the most reliable and will never break down and get you everywhere while the Ranger always breaks down and always leaks oil like any ford would do!
$60,000 to rich I have the triton GLS for $43000 still to exxy for a ute. It does everything I need it to and is eco to boot. AWD capable on the fly they always seem to avoid that benefit, makes it an extremely safer vehicle.
Great review. Personally I wouldn't touch the Ford given their reliability in recent times as well as their "once you've paid your worthless" customer service policy. Toyota want way too much for the Lux. I'd take the Triton. Knowing it and the Toyota will be running on original drivetrains in twenty years and the Ford will be on its 3rd engine or relegated to junkyards.
@@Deatomizer Mitsubishi tends to look after their after sales customers in the hopes they get a better name and more customers later on. Reliability issues with Ford? Ranger gearbox failures Ranger electrical issues Ranger fire problems Fiesta and Focus class lawsuit for knowingly negatively impacting customers on purpose with gearboxes that were designed with failure in mind. Mustang GT cracked intakes and engine castings Focus RS head gasket failures Then there's the dodgy stuff like when they introduced Ranger with the 3.2 and sneakily never told anyone they put a non priming oil pump in it leaving garages and private owners out of pocket $15000 per engine after an oil change and the thing would sieze up. Then with the new 2.0 in Ranger they put in a belt driven timing belt and oil pump, sealed from access for the life of the engine and they advised journalists the life span is 7-10 years. That's what I meant.
I think you guys were fair enough in this review compared to other biased reviews from other channels. You didn't mention everything worth mentioning which would have made the review a bit more fair and really would have shown the differences between the vehicles. The ranger is a really good vehicle other than reliability. The hilux has never really been all that it's said to be past and present. It's just too overrated and I can't see why it's so popular when it has so many problems with the dpf. The triton is the best all rounded, the most reliable and the most sensible choice. Can't see why people look past it and always underestimate it. I do think however that the triton is better in 4low with the diff lock on than the Hilux. As I've seen in the past the Hilux struggles in really slick mud when compared to the triton. So there's that. Would go for the triton over any other pick up because it's really the best in my opinion. It's safe, strong, reliable, really powerful for a smaller displacement, awesome off-road, comfortable on road etc. Cheers guys.
a real world test would be awesome... factor in budgets, living costs, and bang for buck. and right then, the Triton will always come out on top. yes there are some shortcuts to keep the price down, but its certainly not an unreliable ute.
Horses for courses - my Toyota 2.7 gave me 17 years with one clutch replacement - with zero other work required - took me 1 week to sell it for the equivalent 9000 Aus dollar - I had a choice between buying the Ford Ranger 3.2 XLT or the Toyota’s 2.8 - I did not find the Toyota’s ride on tarmac harsh at all / in fact it was too soft for my liking - hence the Ranger was way to soft stock - I tow my boat with ease as well - I personally find the interior of the Toyota far more robust & with more storage spaces and can take full size mugs - the doors feel more solid - the Toyota in low range is a beast off road and will easily tackle grade 3-4 off road tracks which I’ve done with OEM tyres - I’ve now put in an Old Man Emu 2” lift & more aggressive AT tyres - I recently hired a Ford 2.2 and did 1000km in Namibia - where the Ford wins is in the comfort of the front seats - way better than the Toyota & brilliant fuel consumption averaging 7,7 ltr per 100km - if anyone is on a budget I would look at buying this older model - just upgrade the suspension & better tyres Unfortunately Ford Ranger has zero resale value compared to Toyota in South Africa - so if you’re one of those people that like to keep the same 4x4 for over 6 years - you will get nothing for a Ford 10 yrs down the line
I went through buying a new ute a while back and these are the three that I narrowed it down to. I knocked the Hilux out pretty early, due to its reliability issues (mainly the DPF one) and because it was simply too uncomfortable to be used as a family wagon which is most of its duty for me, and it just felt dated compared to the other two. The battle for me was between the Triton and Ranger, and I still think the Triton would have comfortably done everything I need a ute to do, but in the end I concluded that I was quite happy to pay 9k more for the Ranger (3.2l), because it does it better and importantly for me, It also looks a much better and whatever people want to say about that not being important. In my experience, I get more joy and happiness out of a vehicle that makes me smile when I see it than one that is not pretty, (like my wifes Mazda 3). Your conclusions on this one are pretty much exactly what I came to so I'd say you are spot on with this one! Good on Mitsi for trying to improve the look, but I just don't think they have quite got there..
Just purchased the 2019 triton premium plus Pack in a club cab set up .....fixed price servicing for 3 years ($200) 7 year parts warranty....tinted windows ...ceramic coating on paint ....everything the top of the range gls has except carpet ....$40890.00 drive away ....talk about more bang for your buck
If i were to pick, the Toyota Hilux hands down. most consumers will just buy the cars they want purely for looks alone, specs, its capabilities and any other external factors that can only be seen or read by the naked eye, but reliability? Of course you can't see that, just from experience only, and for that, Toyota is no doubt the most reliable of the three here, and i prefer reliability more than anything because it is the more worth of your money in the long run LOL.
Sorry mate, but the DPF issue alone makes the Hilux the least reliable, I know two people who have been through this ( one of them actually won and got a new car out of Toyota but it was apparently a hell of a battle), not to mention the limp mode air intake issue. Ranger is still the best.
@guy proulx Probably because they are a few Roos loose in the top paddock and are clearly easily led by BS (in this case by a brilliant long running advertising campaign about being unbreakable). Those issues I mentioned are not a conspiracy and are quite real th-cam.com/video/eYA5QYf3ZCg/w-d-xo.html and I know two angry fella's who have suffered because of the DPF issue. I am not anti Toyota by the way - in fact the last Ute I owned was a Hilux..
Factor in reliability, cost of repairs, downtime at the dealership and general build quality you'd have the Ranger at #4 at that trio ... its piece of junk
JMark Lopez Heard customer service from Ford and GM are woeful and don’t give a stuff about customer’s problems with vehicles. Anyone had first hand experience?
My own money will go to the Toyota. In South Africa the Fords are hugely unreliable. Two friends of mine bought the Ford 3.2 and one the 2.2. The 2.2 had an engine replacement at 30 000 km. Two gear boxes. The 3.2 of one of my friend had gear box replacement at 60 000kms. The other 3.2 had ..... wait for it..... three engines and one gearbox replacements all before 90 000 kms. Two of them now bought Toyotas and one a Nissan Nivara. I own a 80series Land Cruiser 1996 model 4.2 diesel and I have only done regular services with brake pads replacement twice. I’ll never sell it.
Odd how everyone complains about the reliability, yet they still sell over 2000 units a month? My ranger now has 78000kms and I have had no issues apart from a seal on the clutch slave cylinder. But in all honesty I hope the new 2.0 Biturbo is a great engine (being a Ford engine and not the Volvo puma engines). All the vehicles in this test are great vehicles, the tech in the ranger is really something though.
Funny, nowhere else has these issues and they sell a hell of a lot of those vehicles. I know 9 people with Rangers, only one of them has had an issue burning his clutch out which Ford replaced (I know why he burned his clutch out ;-) and it is now 9 years old with 290K, with nothing but services done. I know three people with Rolluxs Two buggered over the DPF issue and one okay so far he reckons... Hey maybe they send all the dud Rangers to South Africa and all the dud Hiluxs to Australia!
Woah really? It's so obvious that ur lying i have a fordd ranger with 150k km on it never had a problem maybe ur friends are just that stupid on maintaining cars
In South Africa we love the Hilux, no issues to date. I had a 2.7 VVTI D/C, it drove better that the XLT Ford Ranger we use at work. The Ford on tar is terrible but on gravel it is so smooth. The Triton looks good but does not sell well in SA and cant really comment on its ride quality but Toyota Hilux is the best in terms of comfort and ride quality. The sound system though Ford is the champion, the sound is incredible but all in all Toyota is the best of the lot, currently in the market for the Legend 50
Mitsubishi will be my very choice. Winner of Paris Dakar rally, aluminium engine, fuel efficient, reliable, still driving my dads pajero and intended to purchase the new triton for my business.
Have always been a Hilux man, and always will be. But the price is getting out of hand, with little to justify it. I'm sorry to say I'm about to purchase a ranger!
Hilux have always proven themselves to be longer lasting on the mine sites here in Australia Ford and Mitsubishi simply didn't handle the constant mining abuse the HiLux does they simply fell apart so have to give it to Toyota for all round reliability In saying that as a personal use four-wheel drive that won't break the bank I would buy a Triton they are one of the most underrated 4x4 and I would never put my person vehicle through the same abuse as a mine vehicle anyway i have always loved the looks and features of the Ford Ranger but just can't justify the price and ongoing costs of parts and servicing I didn't have a budget I would go the ranger so this review is very well done good work guys
We use a GLS Premium Triton, probably could be better at towing our 2150Kg empty van where it uses 18 liters per 100km, about half that otherwise. It is an excellent low cost operator , and you get a lot of value. it has done 87,000km not sure where to go next
When you in the market for new ute you will find every brand is better than Toyota but after five years of use you will realise how Toyota is solid , more reliable ,easy to repair and hold its value on the market
Ranger surely not the best. 2 litre TT engine is too puny and highly strung for a 2.5 tonne caravan (Turbo generated horsepower from a small engine just no substitute for displacement in a towing scenario). 10 speed gearbox hunts like crazy. Yes I had one and sold it in under 2 years. Only good thing about the ranger is the tough looks, ride and comfort that's all. These Utes are light commercial vehicles, not heavy duty machineries, if you wanna tow a big caravan buy a Land cruiser TDV8. Dual cab Utes are merely small roundabouts. Triton is winner in my view. great value, strong Mivec engine, decent Aisin 6 speed gearbox, great super select II 4wd system, reliable. True it doesn't tow as heavy, then again you really shouldn't.
@@amandabooysen1872 The current Mazda BT-50 is based on the Ford Ranger T6 platform. Look it up. Although the exterior and interior may look different, the suspension and engines (2.2l and 3.2l Ford Duratorq) are identical. The new 2019 Ranger however uses a newer 2.0l sequential turbo while the current Mazda still uses the 2.2l and 3.2l Ford Duratorq.
@@amandabooysen1872 your response doesn't make any sense. The Ford Ranger T6 platform was designed and engineered in Australia and built largely in Thailand and South Africa. The Mazda BT-50 is based on the same Ford Ranger T6 platform and uses nearly identical suspension and the exact same Ford Durotorq 2.2l and 3.2l diesel engines. The BT-50 is also built largely in Thailand and South Africa.
Why would you try to tow a 3500kg caravan/boat etc with a vehicle that weighs 2000kg (triton). There's a difference between being able to "tow" it and being able to hang on to it if it gets loose. These 3500kg towing capacity figures are a joke. If that much weight got twitchy at 100k's, kiss your a$$ goodbye. Out of this lot, the Triton is a clear winner for value for money.
pretty spott on review, they were honest with every brand with their good and bad points, but they tested top spec mitsubishi, practicly base model ranger and top spec hilux the wildtrack should of been used, but after watching i know the real reason for this review, good job guys and i would say all three trucks would make people happy just comes down to personal preference but ford ranger is my pick then triton then hilux
From the comments of three of you I do not see the ranger as being on top. Far from it. Overall the triton on discription is far superior to that of the ranger. As far as I can see all of you picked the ranger because it has five cylinders. There's a lot more to look at such as warranty . Don't be fooled by the 3.5 towing. Technically the triton is superior on weight in the back 740 kgs ranger 240 kgs. With the respective towing weights. I would only tow 3.5 tonnes with a 200 land cruiser .not with a dual cab.
I have a Ranger PX2 xlt with tech pack and i only use one of the tech options (adaptive CC) the rest of it is rubbish! Also had glow plugs and injectors replaced at 90k 👎 Thinking of going with tje Triton
in practice, they are just as good, i think. Ford often has costly technical defects. I have been driving off-road for a living for 30 years, forest - sector, in Finland. Now i have Skoda Scout 2.0tdi for longer trips and an old Mitsubishi pajero to hunting with dogs and bad conditions and shorter trips for a work, with OME 40mm lift. Just did test drive the new mitsubishi L200(triton) and i have to say its perfect every way.
Mitsubishi Triton is the best choice ppl. This video doesn’t do any justice to the Mitsubishi Triton. As a Triton owner I can gurantee you this one is astonishingly better than a Hilux in all levels. And good price range. It’s a lovely family pickup too. You’d never go wrong with this decision
Towing capacities stated in this video are misleading to say the least when put into context, GCM (Gross Combination Mass) must be looked at when towing. For example: Triton towing 3100kg allows for 743kg of payload, where as the Ranger towing 3500kg only allows for 222kg (1 bloke, towbar and a couple of tools, family would have to stay home). Even if the Ranger towed 3100kg, its allowable payload would be 622kg which is still less than the Triton towing the same mass.
I've always looked at cars and subtracted gvm from the gcm and worked out maximum towing capacity from those two numbers. After all you want to add a bull bar and all the gear plus family for a trip away. For Triton it would be be 2985kg towed if you want full capacity of gvm For the Ford ranger it's 2800kg And hilux 2850kg So if you want to tow things "legally" using the whole gvm of your vehicle the Triton can tow more than both
The Triton is better than the Ford, every Ford has a engine problem. I will never buy a Toyota Hilux or an Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi Triton is still much better for me, Ford stands for, Fix Or Repair Daily.
Ranger - Quite interest in ranger new 2.0L engine and 10 speed transmission, however still need time to approve its reliability, didn't get 3.2L engine because I don't want to pay 6 cylinder rego to get 5 very silly. Triton- unbeatable price and time already approved the engine reliability as this 2.4 L motor is 200kg lighter and on the market more than 5 years without bad story. Hilux - Toyota head with great reputation, but seems like dpf always problem. I think the smart buyer should pick Triton now or get 2.0L ranger after 2 years later and let market to test if it is capable or not. Towing a big van, I will get lc 200 not any dual cab ute.
what about the ldv t 60 what do you think of theses utes the 2022 or 2023 should i get one or should i go for a ford ranger 2019 or 2018 would love to hear what you think
I have driven all 3, I know the one I like. Should have known this would be another Ford advertisement😒. I thought the Ford engine was guttless until into the revs, Mitsubishi 4wd system is frankly Brilliant, Hilux ride is harsh and its too expensive. What they didn't say is with full tow weight on the Ford and toyota, you can't put anything in the tray, the Triton can still carry 750kg in the tray at full tow weight👍
agree 100% the cvm make the ranger a lunchbox when towing a full weight trailer , 3 people will max you out , TRITON WINS ! (yes i have had all 3 , the hilux is so rough had to get my spine fixed !
Funny how Hilux never wins, seems no one cares what they say in Ford Funded reviews. Hilux is the top seller nearly all the time. Toyota as a brand always is. Hilux all the way.
Toyota has build up an incredibly loyal fan base over the years... it's pretty much the only reason it's still on top And as long as they don't start making absolute rubbish, I can't really see that changing anytime soon... for most people a car is just an appliance Fisher and paykel, Samsung, Toyota
@@bradward8748 certainly wouldn't say most. A good percentage yes, but not most. The mine site I am familiar with use 70 series cruisers. You raise a good point though, Toyota has a very large market share in the mining sector. Must be something good about them.
Hilux owners will always say hilux is the best. why you ask? they will answer because its toyota hilux. Toyota have marketed there brand so well for such a long time no one knows any different. the early model Toyota's were awesome, but as the quality has diminished etc, all the die hards are oblivious to it and are paying top dollar for a not so top car anymore and have course resale on a toyota is great.... its because all the toyota owners continue to pay through the nose and its filters down the line. keep it up toyota fans.
Triton is underrated. The triton ticks all the boxes including speed. It’s hella fast!! You can feel it when the MIVEC engine kicks in. There’s a little bit of lag but when its there, you can feel that theres a lot of power in it. The toyota hilux however, theres no lag, the timing is on point when you press the gas but theres no enough power it can give. Theres no question why triton ticks all the boxes. It may be the least powerful in papers but mitsubishi used a higher standard when it comes to performance. Reliability wise, theres no problem with that at all
If you want a tough, honest and extremely reliable Dual Cab..... buy a D-max or Triton. Reviewer's have an obligation to major companies like toyota and ford, and that obligation is to not throw the brand under the bus and tell you all the current issues plaguing the Ranger and Hilux, which are issues that the brands themselves dont want to admit to due to not wanting recalls. Do your research and review the claims being made by Ranger and Hilux owners, there is ALOT...... as opposed to the Dmax or Triton which has next to nothing. On the plus side, you'll save yourself $20k.
The D-Max is good, as is the Triton. (Read my reviews and/or watch my vids about those utes and you'll soon get the distinct impression that I don't mind them.) CarsGuide reviewers don't have an obligation to any companies to "not throw the brand under the bus". Our website (carsguide.com.au) deals with vehicle problems/issues/recalls in specific sections of the site, including up-to-the-minute news coverage of such things. As reviewers, our obligation is to deliver an honest and objective assessment of the vehicle being tested. We are beholden to no vehicle manufacturer. There isn't a ton of time or space in a review to cover owner problems/issues (actual, rumoured or perceived), which is why we deep-dive into them in those other sections I mentioned. Matters, such as Toyota's DPF issues, do get mentioned in reviews and then we indicate where more info can be found and it's then up to the reader whether they want to investigate further. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. - Crafty
@@carsguide Appreciate the detailed response, my sentiment towards Carsguide.com was largely due to the fact that I assumed it was still 50% owned by Newscorp and the ad revenue at stake across Newscorp's various media outlets from the likes of Ford and Toyota was far too large to jeopardise. I realise now that Newscorp sold carsguide.com a few years ago, so apologies. However, as informed consumers and viewers we know motoring journalists must tread very carefully around sensitive issues such as Hilux's DPF and Rangers gearbox problems, otherwise they risk being removed from future opportunities to review their branded range. Thanks for putting out the content that you can, i still thoroughly enjoy it. Cheers, Alex.
I choose Mitsubishi because driving performance very good i trust Mitsubishi the rally Dakar champion, to become a champion your car must be very perfect, heavy duty, faster, never broke down for long times
Bro toyota has proven itself for many many years never break down not like a ford ranger and mitsubishi that cant handke the pressure in the bush and forestry. U can do 300k plus out of a hilux only about 70k out of a ranger and things start packing up.
Sorry to burst ur little cocky bubble but we had a ranger 5years and it managed 350k b4 we had to recondition the fuel injectors due to the low quality fuel we provided with,we traded it for the legend 50 and I promise it's demotion in terms of driving prowess and fuel economy
Been looking for some time to replace the old duel cab ( triton ) .. I do like the Hilux only because it’s built incredibly strong , but the ride is hard , that’s the price you pay for a strong vehicle and the price you pay out of pocket ..the Ranger is great but bloody expensive and for what’s under the hood ,I don’t think the parts are up to the job for the power it delivers and also constantly hear of electronic tech problems .. I can’t help but going back to the Triton as a excellent all rounder not to mention the constant 4x4 on the road during heavy rain gives you great grip on the road for safety ..
@@gavinwolfe3238 there is towing and there is crawling. If my tuned 3.2 can't make 80km up a long steep hill without revving 4000rpm in 3rd I'm sure your 2 liter will struggle too. I say tow comfortably not crawling. Sure I can pull it up at 40km or 50km but the limit is 100km on most country road. Around bend up a hill you are waiting to be collected by coming cars. At least be able to tow at the speed limit. 80 90 is good and safe. Going to slow is not safe either. Mind you the 2 liter don't have as much of a broad torque curve like the 3.2. You have 25nm more but at are very narrow window. That is why they are mated to the 10sp auto. Let face it 25nm isn't much of a difference. The 2 liter is waiting to blow up.
Gavin Wolfe I think U should start taking lessons from guys like john Cadogan because clearly the ranger is the most powerful of the bunch and there is no way that 147kw/470nm and can be out performed by 130kw/450nm in a towing test unless U go premium n opt for x-class or Amarok and remember zf makes the best transmissions
Triton is the smart choice. Might not be the best in category but does everything pretty well and is a sharp price. 👍
Agreed 👍
Owned the Triton for about a week and the more I drive , the more I fell in love with it!! Mitsubishi Triton is always the best choice.
Keep your sanity and save your money. Choose either Mitsubishi Triton or Isuzu Dmax.
And since there is about 350kg in the bed at all times and the Ranger has 265mm wide tires all around theres hardly ever wheelspin.
outdoors, spot on. already the super select 2 puts it on another level. safety when towing etc.
I have the previous model triton and compared to a mates ranger I’d much prefer it. And both utes standard he couldn’t keep up out the bush 😂

Obviously The Triton is value for money king at $51000 when comparing to any other Ute on the market in Australia.

Yannick J. Not efficient , Please explain I would be very interested in your point of view.

@@y4nnickschmitt very interesting mate ,but here in nz we dont have to add adblue to the Ranger and Bt50 3.2 engines, they may have been detuned if my assuming is that you live in the northern hemisphere? Can't argue with anything in this review but unfortunately reliability and build quality can't be tested and being mainstream media you guys can't honestly offer an opinion on after sales service either. For these reasons I believe anyone seriously looking at buying one of the cars involved in any such review should do far deeper research on each make/model.

Mustang GT cracked intakes and engine castings
Focus RS head gasket failures

Horses for courses - my Toyota 2.7 gave me 17 years with one clutch replacement - with zero other work required - took me 1 week to sell it for the equivalent 9000 Aus dollar - I had a choice between buying the Ford Ranger 3.2 XLT or the Toyota’s 2.8 - I did not find the Toyota’s ride on tarmac harsh at all / in fact it was too soft for my liking - hence the Ranger was way to soft stock - I tow my boat with ease as well - I personally find the interior of the Toyota far more robust & with more storage spaces and can take full size mugs - the doors feel more solid - the Toyota in low range is a beast off road and will easily tackle grade 3-4 off road tracks which I’ve done with OEM tyres - I’ve now put in an Old Man Emu 2” lift & more aggressive AT tyres - I recently hired a Ford 2.2 and did 1000km in Namibia - where the Ford wins is in the comfort of the front seats - way better than the Toyota & brilliant fuel consumption averaging 7,7 ltr per 100km - if anyone is on a budget I would look at buying this older model - just upgrade the suspension & better tyres

Triton is the best. Get a 6 speed Ranger to be fair.

The Mazda BT-50 is based on the same Ford Ranger T6 platform and uses nearly identical suspension and the exact same Ford Durotorq 2.2l and 3.2l diesel engines. The BT-50 is also built largely in Thailand and South Africa.
Triton square looks is masculine, with good strong 4 shiny legs
Toyota fanboys hates this video
Can you blame us?
The ranger doesn't have 5 cylinders anymore but....
Uneducated opinion
Is this another ford ad???
carlos46834 because the Ranger shits on the rest
Yeah it truly must be.. the ford will never get anywhere near perfect..
Yep, Ford clearly paid the most to get this "review" done. Well done Ford. Your pocket are deep....
@@aussiemotomatt 😂
Go and drive them all and decide for yourself... For me, the Ford feels miles ahead of the competition...
Mitsubichi is the best drive system
I have a Ranger PX2 xlt with tech pack and i only use one of the tech options (adaptive CC) the rest of it is rubbish! Also had glow plugs and injectors replaced at 90k 👎
Thinking of going with tje Triton
This review kinda feels biased u forgot to mention a lot of small features about the triton including price.
in practice, they are just as good, i think.
So top of line models arent considered big bucks?
Mitsubhishi all the way...
For Triton it would be be 2985kg towed if you want full capacity of gvm
For the Ford ranger it's 2800kg
And hilux 2850kg
So if you want to tow things "legally" using the whole gvm of your vehicle the Triton can tow more than both
Hmmm. I chucked the Colorado in as well.
I bought the Ranger. So far very satisfied.
Mitsubishi is the best performance and Stability
Take the Ranger , i hace one 2.2 diésel, so good engine puma 👌.
what about the ldv t 60 what do you think of theses utes the 2022 or 2023 should i get one or should i go for a ford ranger 2019 or 2018 would love to hear what you think
In Malaysia a car with the highest sales value is hilux...
resale value is the highest compared to everything else.
And try to name other double cabs that sell used just as good. The disputable answer is..none!
Funny how Hilux never wins, seems no one cares what they say in Ford Funded reviews. Hilux is the top seller nearly all the time. Toyota as a brand always is.
Hilux all the way.
Toyota has build up an incredibly loyal fan base over the years... it's pretty much the only reason it's still on top
And as long as they don't start making absolute rubbish, I can't really see that changing anytime soon... for most people a car is just an appliance
Fisher and paykel, Samsung, Toyota
Only a top seller because most Hiluxes are fleet/mining vehicles
Bwahahahahaha sorry but the first sentence got me laughing, hilarious just, no offense mate, just hilarious to me
TOYOTA must have stopped advertising with them
Sour grapes mate....
Toyota doesn't need them to advertise. Their sales are still leading.
Reliability wise, theres no problem with that at all
Ford the lowest in overall reliability but is the winner.🤣🤣🤣

@@titaniumquarrion9838 that can be any company you dumbass
Sponsored review 🤣🤣🤣
Notice the idiot above me
Lets see how long the ford lasts with iets 10 speed drive train it does good in all your tests but only once TOYOTA EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK
Mitsubishi is the best, very good in handling very good in highway and cross country, very popular in Asia especially Indonesia Papua
Triton still the best 👍
We think that if we could get the Triton over here in the US that it would sell well. Great comparison video - thanks for sharing!
It definitely will be popular as American trucks are way too overpriced and frankly can't compete with the triton.
Pajero Sport as well, the US needs more off-road vehicles.
Mitsubishi Triton the Dakar rally champion moving forward in shape technology
How is $7800.00 less for the Triton put it in the same class as the other two? D S.
Hilux looks really good
I choose Mitsubishi because driving performance very good i trust Mitsubishi the rally Dakar champion, to become a champion your car must be very perfect, heavy duty, faster, never broke down for long times
As long as my lux is the best off road I'm happy!
The triton can have a a 3.5 tone towing if you spend some more money
I'll bet my left nut if the ranger can pull 3.5t comfortably. My 3.2 can't even do 2.5t boat 500km. Feels over worked.
Towing 3.5ton with our 2L Ranger no problems, over some pretty good mountains as well.
