But when we were to do a vehicle change and a deal came up which could work for us........I started the bakkie test driving etc. Weighing up the options etc. In short the biggest problem for me was it is going to be a daily driver and picking up kids with bags and wife works etc. Needs to stop at shops sometimes where do you safely put all the stuff??? So after doing some market research and comparing load-bin options such as the Armadillo, we decided on the RigiDek solution. Which literally turns the load bay into a massive boot. And it is remote operated with courtesy lights. So far it seems good. I have a Toyota Hilux 1992 mighty X and a Toyota Hilux invincible 2012 both are running perfectly both are manual gearbox the 1992 needed a new clutch at 450000 kilometers but after that now it has run 670000 and it's still going on even the original radiator is still working just had to replace the hoses had to replace some more stuff like Brakes and suspension parts are touched just once over these years I really love my 1992 Hilux and the 2012 invincible it has got 166000 kilometers on it but it's still running fine without any issue the brake pads are changed only
Simple manual ranger will live longer than raptor , avoid 10 speeds , durability comfy hilux , fuel and value dmax -aisin too , finally it's all depends on depth of pocket ..
Put the R87k aside if you go with the ranger when replacing it’s gearbox at 50 000kms. I have heard too many hit and miss stories with the ranger. The feedback is 50/50. Some people say they have no issues and some say they have endless issues. If you can choose a company car go with the Ford but spending your own money go with the Hilux.

Hilux all the way, built to last and when you sell it 5 years down the line you will still be able to sell it for a decent amount, our Hilux had 300 000km on the clock and we traded it in for a newer one a few years back (3.0 D4D before the 2.8) and we had to chip in R150k if I’m not mistaken... the hilux was a legend 40 and we traded it in for a late legend 45, an incredible car and I will always take Toyota over Ford. 2018 Ranger Wildtrak owner, I usually put my valuables behind my driver's seat, or under the rear seats in the storage bins. Use it everyday, and haven't had many nuisances in the city, only real annoyance is the fuel consumption
Doesn't matter where you hid those valuables. Thieves are still going to take advantage of Ford's notoriously weak card door locks and gain EASY access to your entire vehicle.

so where do you put a lap top in a car then ??????? i think that was a pretty stupid analogy you put computer, handbag suitcase bags on the back seat like i do in my car i only use the boot if items are to big like most people
These are not built for city types or cities. You put your laptop on the floor in the passenger compartment. Most of the time they don't carry four or five people. Chrome bar? Waste of time. What they need is the ladder rack to protect the rear window and to strap down long things like box steel, planks and yes, ladders. We only get the 2.4 engine in the HiLux here in the UK and it really is not competitive. All Hilux are rated at over a ton carrying capacity here, like the Ranger and, well, all other rivals. Both brands send them from the South African factories to the UK by the way.
Heavily overpriced, over sized and fuel guzzler, quite slow, and not nearly as comfortable or safe as a sedan in the same price range, if you stay in the city, why would you buy either Hilux or Ranger?
Out of interest, has anyone purchased one they didn’t have their heart set on at the beginning and why? My heart was set on the Ford but I keep coming back to the Toyota. I have no allegiance to either and believe both are excellent overall. Let me know if you were in similar position and what changed your mind.
I was very keen on the Ford but ended up buying a hilux. In the end they where quite equal to me and each one of them had some advantages/downsides compared to the other. Rangers had a 6 month waiting time for new when I was looking and got a very good deal on a demo Hilux with 800km only. Very happy now
Ive had Toyota Hiluxs new and 2nd models since 1991 . Up until then i was an diehard Hilux fan , but after major issues buying new Hiluxes with constant gearbox blowups, clutches constantly slipping from 5000klms.,.suspension sagging continuously , rear shocks useless, being under powered compared to the competition, lacking any extras which are standard in all others I finally realised they are biggest POS. Toyota are relying on everyone to be diehard fans but once u go and drive anything but an Hilux u realise how bad the really are. I bought new Hilux Diesel Turbo manuals from 2003 till 2012 owning 4x new Hiluxes They all had consistently same problems listed above on everyone Do yourselfs a favour wake up , look around buy an Ranger, Mazda Bt50 and u will never go back like me and another 10x mates have done Had no issues with any of our utes Imo Hiluxes are way over priced , slow ass to drive, engines to small, suspension to soft, feel like an truck to drive, Look up the Canadian Moose test which compares all utes on the market today Toyota Hiluxes fail miserably and come last in every comparison test and it nearly rolls overbat just 40klms per hour If u value your safety and of your friends and family watch the safety test and do not buy Hiluxes Theres lots of facts , evidence and info on how bad the really are Toyota is way behindbthe competition and has lost so many customers over the last 7 years or so . Couple of.mates have the brand new 2019 hilux 2.8DT ans they are shocking to.drive , slow.as with very bad fuel economy. They will be 4 sale soon as they cant stand how bad they are
Absoutely bullshit comment, just another anti Toyota guy with an absolute blatant bias. I work on diesels for a living the Yotas are built stronger than anything else on the market. The Dmax and Hilux are the two modern Utes that are built to a similar mechanical standard and share the exact same automatic transmissions. The 3.2 rangers blow top ends more than anything else I have seen come in, the 6 speed manual trans are good but the automatics are weak and the planetary gears wear quick. Rangers are not vehicles for constant off road use, you will kill them. They are good highway vehicles and perform well at towing. From what I have seen and worked on, I wouldnt hesitate to own a modern Hilux, the motors are stout and the transmissions are absoutely fine with the manual being the better option as the gears are straighter cut and stronger than the Rangers.
Toyata has a high resale value and Toyota last longer than Ford ranger because I haved for ranger from 5 years but when I tried hulix it was best to me
Nice review, the only time to get the Ranger over the Hilux is for comfort, other than that, the Hilux is the bakkie. The Ranger experience i had was aweful, changed intercooler, changed the turbo, changed mounts etc and these are not cheap replacements... So, no thanks to Ford..
Wow, you think these are too big? Have you ever been to the US? We have SUVs that are almost big enough to be parking sheds for these "mid-sized" trucks. No one knows why, but the US does not receive this particular small Toyota truck, instead we get a sort of "homegrown" variant. Engines available are a 2.7 liter 4 cylinder petrol or a 3.5 liter V6 petrol....with most customers opting for the V6 with automatic transmission even though the 4 cylinder has a rep for being indestructible. So far, the biggest criticism I have read about the Ranger is that assembly quality and materials chosen are not all that was expected for the price. The 2nd most often read criticism is that the 2.3 turbo petrol with automatic transmission combo (THE only drivetrain offered in the US, is not really all that economical. )
Trucks in the USA are certainly huge. Most of them are wimpy with their payload which is most important elsewhere but they can tow a locomotive. The Hilux is a commerical vehicle as opposed to the Tacoma which is a consumer vehicle. Hilux is built for the harshest environments on the plannet. It is the vehicle that killed all american truck sales outside of the USA which Ford and Chev used to enjoy. Hilux is known as indestructable. Their petrol engines are particularly good compared to the competition but their Diesels are most popular. They come in a number of engine options and configurations 2.0 Petrol, 2.7 Petrol, 4.0 V6 Petrol, 2.4 Diesel and 2.8 Diesel. I think South Africa has the biggest range of Hilux models in the world to choose from.
Put your laptop bag on the floor by the back seat, then recline the passenger seat to hide the laptop bag. Lock your bakkie, and enjoy your day. You're welcome!
My Ford Everest Turbo “Broke” with only 58K on the clock. It seem there is a massive problem with Ford Turbo Diesels that no one is talking about about. Sold it and got a Hilux. Stay away from Ford Shitboxs.
I reckon you should take long term reliability into account also. Here in Australia the Ford ranger is a big lemon just like most Ford vehicles. My brother worked at a Ford dealer in the service department and got sick and tired of the bullshit problems which were unrepairable mostly so he left. Went to Toyota. He's much happier now.
Basically.....if we needed to go somewhere we ended up walking around with laptops in a backpack on our backs .any clothing left in the bakkie we would hang them over the seat to indicate we hiding nothing ......also we have 2 kids we always looked like hikers while shopping .😂
In my opinion: First, I think the Hilux is better than the Ranger but consider for the feature the Ranger is better. Two, the Hilux is perfect for the people who work hard such as go to the farm, go for a long way and anything else. Three the Hilux is laster than the Ranger because they are made from the good magnet.
Totally agree with this. I hate Bakkies. I drove the hilux in all the Dakar glory. It was cool for 20mins then I realized its actually really crappy to drive.
I own a vigo and I got into bad accident because of the brake. I had enough stopping distance and still it did not stop. I asked so many people why did that happen. Most of the hilux owners said that the brake is not good. Some of them recommended me to pump the brake twice. But how am I supposed to pump twice in that short period of time. I still love my truck but really one would think that Toyota is very strong and safe but in reality the brakes are crap. I don't know why such a huge brand like Toyota would give such brakes to a legendary truck like hilux. I am not sure I would be upgrading to Toyota Revo or Rocco. I am thinking of buying a Ranger or L200. I wished I could upgrade to Hilux but the parts, the build quality and performance are not that good compared to ranger or l200. I really don't want to change my brand loyalty but then I would be compromising me and my family's safety and also I want to respect my money buying something that is worth it. I would save money and buy the ranger raptor. I know that they tuned brakes in newer hilux instead they should have upgraded the whole brake system because they are a fail technology and mechanism.
The warranty comparison tho.. over here in Malaysia Hilux comes with 5 years wrranty @ 150k km whilst Ranger only comes with 3 years @ 100k km.. No brainer, opted for Hilux for peace of mind

I actually own the new 2.8 Hilux and man I love it! I have a sorting pack in my load box which is fixed to the side of the load box! It keeps things safe with a securi-lid and my things don’t roll about!
I have a Toyota Hilux 1992 mighty X and a Toyota Hilux invincible 2012 both are running perfectly both are manual gearbox the 1992 needed a new clutch at 450000 kilometers but after that now it has run 670000 and it's still going on even the original radiator is still working just had to replace the hoses had to replace some more stuff like Brakes and suspension parts are touched just once over these years I really love my 1992 Hilux and the 2012 invincible it has got 166000 kilometers on it but it's still running fine without any issue the brake pads are changed only
A very honest assessment of utes..most people in cities don’t need them and can’t park them ..your spot on
Simple manual ranger will live longer than raptor , avoid 10 speeds , durability comfy hilux , fuel and value dmax -aisin too , finally it's all depends on depth of pocket ..
Dude your sarcasm is epic.
I'll take the one that costs more and is known for reliability and exceeding its life expectancy.
Dirty Eddy thats of course the hilux
I put my laptop right behind the rear passenger seat in my Ford Ranger.
How much actual space is there? Can you move those rear seats back a bit?
I don't carry a laptop in my Ranger. I carry fishing rods and a roof top tent.
Jip. Heard too many true stories about there poor gearbox. Hilux will keep its value way better
I'd take the Hilux all day long. Those Fords have been recalls galore.
G Rodriguez that because Ford attend to the issues, not so much with the DPF issues, and dust in the air box that causes limp mode in the HiLux.
@@cameronm4201
I stick with what I know & I know Hilux's coz I used to work with them. A singular recall for the Hilux over A LIST of Ranger recalls that's spanned the life of the chassis since almost last decade, because that's how old the Ranger is. DPF's have been the subject for several diesels including Subaru - people buy diesel cars but toot around in the suburbs n city so they don't break temperature & clog.

Um yes there is. Sorry mate the new Hilux is a fail
The new Hilux is a fail.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣what a git.
Will never break, engine is detuned to last and the capacity is high so it is stronger and less strained. Re sale value is better and the car also looks better, sure the ford is way more comfortable and slightly bigger inside but I’ll always be a Toyota man!
Pmsl yeah well theyre falling to bits and have a bad rep
Mr Grenal the Fords?
@@kaikristen4005 Drive both and never had a problem with the ford. Most people tow to much in Fords as Ford bullshit in their advertising its crap. So if you have a bit of common sense you should already be aware of that. Put the Ranger up boggy sand and then the hilux you will see the power difference. The hilux also like to have injector problems the steering racks are not the strongest. I could go on as we use the Hilux for work and not one person at work has a positive thing to say about them. Thats coming from die hard toyota fans that are mechanics and fitters. Sorry mate over priced and over rated. Toyota are still selling off the reputation not todays ability. Wow! I learned a new term today! Bakkie!

@@angrysocialjusticewarrior to be honest, I rather that, then being hijacked, and the chances of being held up while driving the Hilux is higher than in the Ranger
@@FrndsCallMeDaz Well, if crime is a concern, than bakkies are in general are a bad buy. I think bakkies are the most stolen and hijacked vehicles behind the hatchback class.
Safest vehicle class is the sedan range and compact suv.
I think the only bakkies that doesn't get stolen is that box-shaped Mahindra that farmers love.
But it isn't a concern, because that's why insurance and trackers exist, truth is, regardless of the vehicle, if there is a possibility of valuables for easy picking, theives will take the opportunity.
You have to think, that who watch this video, is because are interested in them.
You can't start saying that is a stupid car concept or a similar thing.
And if you don't like the ranger raptor is because you didn't drive it on really broken road to hight speed.

He should rather say that he couldn't be bothered to obtain two similar vehicles. Watch the channels below, first thing you'll see are guys who actually give a s... about cars and go through the trouble of getting facts, like real world fuel mileage versus claimed consumption. Hilux is the winner. Wrong comparison it should be hilux E revo variant vs that ranger
We don't get revo Hilux here in Africa our top specs are raider, legend 50 and dakar
In a ranger, a laptop fits in the glovebox in the dashboard. Behind the back seat is also a viable option.
Greetings from Bergvliet, Cape Town. I'm more of an Isuzu fan when it comes to typical double ca b bakkies but if I had to choose between the Hilux and Ranger I ould take the Hilux with the 2.5l d4d engine.
You get what you pay for. Toyota’s last forever and fords break down. End of story!
True 👍after a while when things fall apart and the novelty wears off... they all end up buying a Hilux...seen this too many times😂😂
In reality the Ford fouble cab can't really carry a ton legally because its to much weight over the rear axle.
Toyota owners: Toyota’s are better
Me: Probably never did ride in a Ford before..
I like the ride in the Ranger. The Hilux feels like it's engine wants to be a Ford when it's big.
Toyotas are better in longetivity. Thats it.
Mostly who say toyota better is from third world country
Ford oil pump problems. Nuff said.
"that's too small, that's too small..." You must have heard that a lot growing up... XD
so where do you put a lap top in a car then ??????? i think that was a pretty stupid analogy you put computer, handbag suitcase bags on the back seat like i do in my car i only use the boot if items are to big like most people
These are not built for city types or cities.
The Ranger has storage for a laptop under the rear seat.
Very happy now
No comparison, Ford has 4 wheel disc brakes, Toy is stuck in the 70's with rear drums
well talk when you have 400k miles and still runs sweet, i doubt if ford will cross 100k without major repair.

Ive had Toyota Hiluxs new and 2nd models since 1991 . Up until then i was an diehard Hilux fan , but after major issues buying new Hiluxes with constant gearbox blowups, clutches constantly slipping from 5000klms.,.suspension sagging continuously , rear shocks useless, being under powered compared to the competition, lacking any extras which are standard in all others
I finally realised they are biggest POS. Toyota are relying on everyone to be diehard fans but once u go and drive anything but an Hilux u realise how bad the really are. I bought new Hilux Diesel Turbo manuals from 2003 till 2012 owning 4x new Hiluxes
They all had consistently same problems listed above on everyone
Do yourselfs a favour wake up , look around buy an Ranger, Mazda Bt50 and u will never go back like me and another 10x mates have done
Had no issues with any of our utes
Imo Hiluxes are way over priced , slow ass to drive, engines to small, suspension to soft, feel like an truck to drive,
Look up the Canadian Moose test which compares all utes on the market today
Toyota Hiluxes fail miserably and come last in every comparison test and it nearly rolls overbat just 40klms per hour
If u value your safety and of your friends and family watch the safety test and do not buy Hiluxes
Theres lots of facts , evidence and info on how bad the really are
Toyota is way behindbthe competition and has lost so many customers over the last 7 years or so .

The best pickup amongst all rivals is Mitsubishi Triton
Put your laptop bag on the floor by the back seat, then recline the passenger seat to hide the laptop bag. Lock your bakkie, and enjoy your day. You're welcome!

Love u Toyota hilux,,toyota is World big car company,,, 🇯🇵
