Style Smoke and Mirrors | Height Illusion
1. It's all about your pants - big, baggy pants make people look shorter. Consider the crotch, width of pant leg, and the pant length. If all too wide or too much with bunchy, you'll look shorter.
2. Big and bulky shoes make you look shorter - you want a visual streamline from your neck to toe. You want a shoe with an elongated toe box with a tape in the shoe.
3. Shirt selection - wear a shirt that is short enough. If it comes past the mid-point of your crotch, the shirt is too long which makes your lower body look squat. This rule goes for all button ups, tees, sweaters / jumpers.
4. Go dark with color selection - it's lengthening (and slimming). Navy, dark charcoal, brown, and black are all include.
5. Stay away from big patterns - if you are into patterns, opt for smaller and subtle.

nice one Alpha. I've recently learned to accept the "no patterns" rule. I love patterned shirts and certain styles of striped sweaters, etc... but they just don't work on a small dude. I've started trimming that stuff out of my closet, sticking to navy, grey, and a bunch of solid white/blue/gray shirts. It just works and you don't have to think very hard about what to put on

Hi Aaron, These tips are great! I have the unfortunate situation where I actually Lost two inches from spinal stynosis and went from being ok with my 5'9" to really feeling the loss at 5'7":( I'm sure I'm doing the pants thing all wrong so thanks for the suggestions.
I was also quite heavy for a long time 339lbs so I gravitate to bulky and concealing clothing which doesn't help with the hight issue.
Now that I've lost 150lbs I still find it hard to dress to fit my new body!
The last time I was able to fit into pair of 34 inch waist pants before now was in junior high!:) but I still have a 28 inch inseam:P(Thanks Dad!) so it's hard to find slim legged pants to not look like an Oompa Lumpa!

Despite being a tall person I know the tip about trousers is a good one. The more tapered and better fitting the more you accentuate your legs and create a better line from top to bottom.
For so many years I looked horrendously chunky because of this - oh well, at least I've overcome that problem :)

I quite like being 5"11. Seems like everything is built around me e.g. Cinemas and sports stadium seats are just the right size. Granted I'm not in the Netherlands where everyone is tall as shit, but over here in the UK, I'm in some Goldilocks zone

I knew there would be a video of yours about this topic! I was dressing for a family meeting the other day and was wondering about ways to look taller. And here I am! Thanks
I'm somewhere between 5-11 and 6-1, but I have a little trick to seem taller that seems to work well for me when I use it: shift your body weight to the mid-to-top half of your feet and lift your ankles up (similar to standing on your "tippy toes" but not quite as obvious). I know quite a few people that are 3-4 inches taller than me, and with this trick I can gain at least two inches (and it is relatively easy to hold this position). Just my two-cents guys!

I think a better video would be the psychology behind the height issues. Reading these comments and my own experience gives some interesting ideas. Im about 6 foot, and really feel short most of the time. As strange as it sounds its something that has always bugged me. But I notice that I feel short next to someone, if I see a picture or pay real close attention I am actually slightly taller or the ground is uneven or something. I think a good video would be on this psychology, why we are so hard on ourselves.
+TheTCOLL I think it's because we see from eye level while not noticing that we have extra things like foreheads to add to the height so we feel short when looking at someone else.
I've noticed that with eye level people tend to aim their eyes more downwards than upwards which makes them feel shorter than they are
