I'm really glad to see you acknowledging men 5'4. Most people talk about short men at 5'8 and it doesn't help us much but you did great

I'm 5'2" and 180, and 61 years old. Extra short is the term used. You're so very right about proportions. However, I DON'T WANT TO LOOK TALLER. All my life people have told me in one way or another how to look taller, and how I should try to look taller. I've been 5'2" since I was 16 years old. I've been OK with that for a long time. But I stop listening to people when they start telling me to look taller. I don't need to look taller. There's nothing wrong with me just the way I am. I try to look good, sure. Try to look taller? Tell me there's something wrong with my height? Tell me I don't measure up? You have nothing more to say that I want to hear.

Atta boy Howatt, you my man! Nothing's wrong with your height ( i just can't resist the idea of adding 'or of the lack of it') and I just say wow at the way you made that comment, you rokc you ol' son of a gun! But I have just one question; i know why I watched this video, but why did you, sir?
That said, My bonus was when I get to read your comment.
      Yours?
Maybe it's your idea to give out bonuses to guys like me?

Living in China for a few years, the shirts here fit me a lot better than those at home in Ireland. The fabric they're made from is sometimes more comfortable too.

Whenever I go visit China, I bring back a lot of clothes from there... They are cheaper, better fitting, and stylish (American s fits me too but very often the shoulder or length is messed up and disproportional)

Wonderful tips! At just a few months shy of 21 standing at only 5'1", anyone can imagine that my confidence levels are a tad lacking. I'm definitely in a "below" below average height considering my gender and age. I'll definitely look into utilizing this advice.

As a very short man of only 5-2, and a muscular build of 140 pounds (been working out for almost 20 years), I would normally say that my sizing is beyond impossible to find clothes that fit proportionally. For a long time I believed it to, but after enough experimentation over the years, I have my "go-to's" when it comes to clothes that fit me perfectly and gets me compliments wherever I go:
Button down long sleeve shirts: J. Crew, Uniqlo, Izod, and American Eagle. Size XS
Short sleeve t-shirts and polos: H&M, American Eagle, and Express. Size XS
    Jeans: Levi's & American Eagle. Boys size 16 (28W, 28 Inseam)
Dress pants: Van Huesen. Size Boys 16
    Blazers/Suit Jackets: Anything that's a 38S or Boys size 16.
Hope this helps my fellow short brethren out there. And if these sizes are too tight, get in shape and lose the gut. If a little guy like me can still have the determination and confidence to do what I have to in order to feel good in his skin and not let the negative criticism/vibes everywhere concerning short men get to me, you shouldn't either. Look at it this way, when you go to the beach and the ladies see you with your shirt off, they'll notice your physique before they notice your height.

5 "7' a major problem faced is length of the arms on retail shirts and jackets. plus one of my other negatives is that I got some far around my Belly region now, so have to go for a bigger size in stores and thus accentuation the longer sleeve lengths.

I'm only 5 foot 1. A problem I run into is the tail of my tie hangs past the tie itself. My fix for this is to fold the tail back up and use a tie clip to keep the tail and tie attached to my shirt.

thanks for the tips. being 5'6" and having very short legs, you can imagine me trying to find a proper suit/well made clothes. great video as always. anyone who ever asks me how/why I dress so nice all the time, I reference them to you. I have followed your videos advice to the letter many times, and it has never failed. I even used those tips about sweating/using a grey undershirt during a public speaking event and it made me much more confident and got myself a standing ovation, part of me likes to think they were just clapping for my shoes haha

I am 5' 6''. I try to place myself in clothing that brings out the sexy/attractive features of my body. Giving individuals something attractive to look at can take away the focus on height. Also adding a nice watch, a couple bracelets, and outfit appropriate jewelry can add focal points to yourself. It's worked for me, so far, but I am still improving.

This was an informative video and you were well dressed and confident.
I sell men's suits and shoes for a major Department Store. Working with the smaller man is a challenge. I will send customers to Peter Manning's website.
~If I may make a few suggestions to the man who wants to add to his wardrobe: 90% of men have to have clothes altered, not just short men. Unless you're having your clothes custom made, you will pay to have some item(s) adjusted for proper fit. This isn't a 'tailor's tax', just the price for not having gone bespoke. That phrase sounded like pure Madison Avenue baloney. Secondly, if you are looking for a suit, come dressed to buy one. Wear dress shoes and a long sleeve shirt. Bring a belt. And allow several days (perhaps a week)for alterations. This last note is critical. Don't expect your lack of planning -urgency - to become the store's emergency. Though we will try to accommodate you, tailoring takes time.
Keep up the good work, Antonio.

I am 5'4" tall and have a 28 inch waist. I weigh 130 lbs. and I am 33 years old. This video was right up my ally but what about the men that are short and have a small build. I lift weights and have a V shape body, athletic build, but still finding cloths is hard. I have found a brand sold at Kohls called APT 9. This brand makes a slim style, tailored fit and it comes a a extra slim fit, brilliant brand for short and small built guys. APT 9 does dress clothes, suits, athletic wear and casual attire, love this brand.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm 5' 6". Not overly short, but at 130 pounds I'm a pretty small guy. Most of the shirts I buy are xs or s around 14-14 1/2" neck. I have lots of shirts from Express. I always wait for deals from outlet stores, but even so, the sleeves are always just a bit too long. I'll have to check out your recommended brand. I'm looking for some pants now. Dark denim and some darker shade chinos. Any suggestions for 30" waist and 30" length? Don't want to spend a lot either. So budget brands are good. Thanks!

    Antonio, great video!
I wanted to give a suggestion for a video as I feel it may help me and alot of gents in the community aswell.
Could you maybe do a video about how you should iron your dress shirts, polos, t-shirt and all? Because I know a lot of men, including myself spend hours ironing shirts and still end up with rincles. Maybe if you could put emphasis on if an ironing board is better than just a regular table for ironing and things like that.
    Would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks again for your videos!

    Some things I've found:
Avoid large patterns. A big, blocky checkered shirt, for example, might overpower a small frame, whereas a small gingham pattern will blend into your pants better and help create that monochromatic look Antonio mentioned.
I've also found that very vibrant or "different" coloured shirts or pants tend to make a short man look child-like or cartoonish. While a 6'1" guy might be able to pull off emerald green slacks, a really short guy will just look like a leprechaun. I'm not saying it can't be done, but it's a tricky one. I keep the bright colours as accents.
Tuck in your damn shirts. It'll add inches to the length of your legs.

Yeah nailing the fit is right on. No matter what, if your on either end of the spectrum of the norm it will be custom or tailored no matter what. To find something right off the rack is a treasure hunt unless you find a specialty store. Even then they might not carry your style or quality range as well. One thing about being short, you can always find something you can wear or tailor in. If your big and tall and outside the range the stores normally carry, there is nothing for you.

If you're getting a shirt, somewhere above mid-crotch should be fine...and make sure the back hem doesn't cover up the entire buttocks. For tees, I find that somewhere between upper to mid crotch makes me look taller as well. Although this illusion of added length won't do you any favors if the fit is too loose around the arms, chest, and stomach area, so make sure to nail the fit as well. I think shirts where you can pinch about 2 inches from either side have the best fit. For trousers, about the same principle for fit: if you can pinch 1-2 inches maximum from either side of your thigh all the way to your calves, then you're fine. Just make sure there isn't excess fabric as well at the bottom of your jeans to avoid 'breaks' (the bunching up/folds of jeans at the bottom when it hits the shoe). Good luck man. :)

For casual looks try some Henleys, plain color V- necks and chukka boots. Hope it helps and if you are in your mid 20s it's going to help you look 21... 😉

I'm 5ft 3 and although I have no trouble buying upper body clothes, I can NEVER get trousers or jeans to fit me. Because I have somewhat of a belly, every pair of trousers or jeans I get just falls off my backside and when I wear a belt it just sticks into my stomach. What rise trousers or jeans would you recommend for short men? I heard high-rise was the best, but I don't want to look too 'old' wearing them as I'm only 26, but comfort is most important.

this i understand too well, being 5"7 and 36' around the waist short legged and 100cm around the chest , and its impossible to get a suit that fits shirts ,vests and pants.
And so i learnt to sew and made all my own clothing ,then i learnt to weave the fabric and finishing it , so i could have real clothing . That's why i looked good for years and the only
jacket i had that i didn't make was my 1950's sports jacket white and grey ,brilliant wool jacket still got it and love it , goes with everything i have. Funny scarfs i can buy not a problem , gloves can be a problem , i have problem sometimes with shoes ,9.5 hard to find ,
your video was so helpful , thanks .........:-)

I've had good luck with Zara when it comes to jackets and blazers. I'm short and thin so nothing ever fits. I'm 28 waist and 34-36 blazer size.

I'm 5'8" and I do have issues finding clothing that fits right.... I have a quite large back and quite big quads (by nature). It's very hard to get the proportions right especially when it comes to pants.. It's almost impossible to find a shirt that fits just right because of my back..

I always had to be careful looking for clothes. I am a stockier short guy. I am 65.5" and fluctuate between 166-182lbs depending on time of year and if I am training or not. My issues were always collar, sleeve length, and the placement of shoulders. Also pants were always a pain if it fit in the waist I would be too tight in the seat and thighs if they fit in the seat and thighs most times the waist was too big. Worst part I am anywhere between 33.5 and 35.5 in the waist. Sometimes finding my inseam was impossible since they tend to be 34-32 to 34-36 and I am a 28. Often times I settled for 36-30's or 29's and would seam them myself. I may try Peter Manning but unfortunately I am bigger than most of those models and I would barely fit their 4x size. I am probably in one of the worst body types for finding well fitted clothes. Any suggestions for larger and shorter guys? Not that I am even particularly large.
