    Hello Stewart, I heard you saying that some of your students asked you to comment less (in the Happy hips : tilting legs on the back lesson). That may be good for students which are already advanced. As I'm concerned your comments help me to find out quicker how to move better. Thanks so much for your lessons and comments and I wish you a excellent 2021. Barbara (Geneva).

    I like this because you are to the point and get on with it just enough commentary for me not to turn off :) - if I am over 2 min in and still no exercise I leave and go elsewhere because it all just becomes blah blah - maybe its the sign of the times or whatever - so thank you

    Wow! That was great! Some commentary is necessary to explain the movements and it is also helpful when you bring attention to subtle movements that I would not have noticed , for example my knees moving up and down while bent to the side with arms straight. At the same time it is good that you do not over do it so that I can continue to explore the movement using my own awareness . It is such a blessing to have your lessons .Thankyou Stewart

    What is amazing is how comprehensible are the instructions! You can actually easily follow all the movements without looking at the screen especially if you do different workouts regularly. And all the workouts are so hepful for releasing the spine/ the back and the hips. Many thanks!

    I totally and absolutely , appreciate and love your commentary . This is what I find so special in your classes in your teaching, you actually leave room for me to digest understand and do a movement with understating of the mechanics, reasoning, little details, and in a tempo that I have enough time to actually watch what I ma doing... feel into what I am doing. It is wonderful . So many teachers are just giving us movements and so many of us are doing these movement not correct. I have in yoga.... etC. .. so ye,,, thank you ..

    Hi, I enjoyed this lesson and will follow all your videos. I particularly like the format of your longer classes, as doing it at the same time with you allows understanding the movement.
    Please don't stop commenting, this is a vital part of teaching, without your guidance, the students who moan now, wouldn't now know how to do the movement, I really don't understand how can one expect the teacher to teach without talking 🤦🏻‍♀️🍀🌼

    Hi Stewart. It’s been a while, I had done this video many many times when I was in a lot of pain.. I have gotten a lot better and stronger so I moved on to weights, walking and riding my bike. I was recommending your video to a friend bc it helped me so much. Today, I did my weights video but tried your video after and boy was I tight. It relaxed my hips and back and it felt wonderful. I was asking myself why I had stopped doing this video and it’s bc I got better. But I will add it back to my weekly rotation bc I still need it… thank you again for your wonderful videos and the very detailed instructions which keeps us from harming ourselves. I see your ads until the end bc you deserve it…hope it helps.

    Please don’t hold back on your commentary! It is what helps me guide my attention and keeps me grounded in the lesson. Wonderful lesson. Thank you so much. I personally enjoy your commentary. It reminds me of something I read in one of Feldenkrais’ books where he talks about telling lots of stories and keeping his students smiling so they don’t try to concentrate too hard and get tense when they should be letting go of tension. Your commentary also helps me direct my awareness, which often wanders in a lesson.

    Thank you, Stewart. i asked about tight over functioning adductors in another of your videos and you sent me here. Thankyou. i have done this lesson, and my biggest difficulty with the lesson was actually straightening the right leg out each time we rested. It was tight and sore at the top of the adductor, bottom of the hip flexor... just couldn't lie on the floor softly. This softened only after the right hand side bit (at 30 minutes) where we lifted our heads and looked down at our knee. Then it softened. i also noticed when i had finished and looked at the video ( rather than just listening.. that when you straighten and stand your legs, you go through a froggy swimming type position.... not just out straight!! ah! that might make a difference. i will try it next time. Lovely to be allowed to stay within the pain zone... ! thank you for lovely leading instructions.

    • @stewarthamblin
      @stewarthamblin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Storytelling Threads, that is a great insight about the effect of lifting your head. To me it suggests that it might be the lower back and pelvis have something to do with the adductors. Another lesson you might like to explore is Fabulous Flexors.

    Thank you love your teaching style because of what you share!! not too much chatting for me! thank you! Question: When you are tilting the legs are you saying think dropping the back, and when you are returning thing slightly arching?

    • @stewarthamblin
      @stewarthamblin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Darlene, thank you. When you tilt the legs to one side the lower back on the opposite side will arch. The issue for many though is that the lower back arches too much as opposed to the extension being distributed throughout the spine. One of the things I encourage my students to do, as the legs tilt to one side is to keep the lower tummy slightly engaged (that spot two inches below the navel) to help with this and then to pull in that spot when the legs are brought back to the middle. So curling in fact when returning and evenly extended when tilting the legs. I hope that makes sense.

    Hi Stewart! I appreciate the lesson very much. I'm getting better with the pelvic clock, with your instruction..
    I have a concern with the movement with one arm overhead and looking up at it. For me, it really messes my neck up. As this happened before, I was much more careful this time and still became miserable the next day. To be honest, I have only four vertebrae to work with because the bottom three are fused. The first time it happened, it happened on the left and affected C2. This time, the right-hand side was angry 😠, but I'm able to remediate it on my own (and I found a few "extra" connections down into my shoulder blade).
    What I want to know is what the intention of this position is. This time I mostly kept my right arm at about 30° to the right of "vertical". What position arrangements would you suggest to get the benefit of the position that would help me avoid the discomfort the next day, or is this where I just imagine the move?
    This is a clumsy question over the internet, but we can try. 😉 This lesson has a lot to it...one to be repeated. Thank you for all you do.

    Did you say "I HOPE or I HIP you enjoy it at the beginning" :) So, I did part of the lesson because I started having a laughing fit at one point (As Moshe would say "when you've laughed you've learned your lesson")...i have always loved this lesson in general but i don't remember bursting out in laughter with this one before. HAHA. Also, if you are curious, re how to bring the legs up in another way, are you familiar with Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen because she does this but initiating from the feet and thinking about the tailbone...it's FANTASTIC. If you'd like, I can send you that particular video. It totally changed how I think about this lesson.. :) Oh and one last thing...I will resume this lesson another time...am still laughing...back to the floor :)

      Both approaches would be good Lutz. I don't mean to sound cryptic but the important thing is to ask how you feel. I often think it's a good idea to repeat a lesson before moving on, but then when you finish the series start all over again.

    Hi
    Sometimes I wish that content like this would get millions of views. Trust me, your comments are perfect. Even if they where too much, it helps with the awareness thing. You're giving guidance. The people who say different are either advanced, or they're still clenched into the fast pace world we live in. Wanting to get things yesterday which might not occur untill tomorrow.
    i just noticed a different feeling.. i think it's good. I do have a question though, when doing the arm exercise i felt a lot of tension in my left part of the body neck and shoulder.
    Should I do the neck and shoulder relief before attempting the hip ones?
    I'm asking because i recently discovered (through the internet and amazing content such as yours) that my whole left side of the body is deficient in a way.. from shoulder (overhead mobility issues), thoracic, hip and ankle (side effects to achilles tendon from levofloxacin I took a few years ago).
    Thank you for the quality content. Keep up the good work.

    • @stewarthamblin
      @stewarthamblin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andrei, thank you so much for your super kind comments. I really appreciate them. I would definitely give the neck and shoulder relief class a try first, also Ungluing the Shoulders Part 1 and 2, and then have a go at the Happy Hips series. Also, you might want to look at a video called Fit Sit Side-bending to improve walking as there are some great movements in that lesson to help bring awareness to how you might be using your left side. Stay well. Stewart

      @@stewarthamblin Wow, thanks for the detailed "prescription". I began implementing it as described and I'm impressed.
      I'd appreciate if you would answer a few questions I've been pondering.
      Is it possible that even with such gentle movement, there could be muscle aches/pains and/or discomforts in certain parts of the body afterwards, and by afterwards i mean the next day (as in muscle soreness)?
      Would there be any issue or problem if I'd do 2-4 hours per day of different such activities? I'm curious if there is a contraindication just like with normal exercise which you can't overdo because it's painful anyway.
      And I hope it's OK if I ask a question once in a while (i had others when I was exercising but forgot them)
      Thanks again!:)

    Hi, Stewart! What is the reason (and the beneafit) to differentiate and separate the eyes of the head in this movement? Thanks!

    • @stewarthamblin
      @stewarthamblin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Daniel, great question. One of the reasons is that many people as they get older begin to move their heads and chest to move their eyes. Everything begins to move as a solid block. It becomes a habit that in older people can make them vulnerable to falls etc. So it's a really good idea to practice these differentiations. I hope that makes sense

Just want to add that I very much appreciate your detailed instruction and don't see how it would be possible to do the movements effectively if you didn't provide the commentary you do. Some people may be wizards at this and can do it without instruction but I don't see how it would be possible to follow along lying down and unable to constantly watch the video.
