  • This is another great lesson for golfers, racket sport players and swimmers. It explores the ability to move the head and eyes freely on the spine through progressively more challenging twists. You will probably feel a lot taller after the lesson!
    It is based on AY 110 'On the back, twisting the spine with the head fixed.
    Important medical information which you should read before undertaking the lesson:
    Always consult your physician before beginning any exercise program. These lessons are not intended to diagnose any medical condition or to replace your healthcare professional. Consult with your healthcare professional to design an appropriate exercise prescription. If you experience any pain or difficulty with these exercises, stop and consult your healthcare provider. If you experience any symptoms of weakness, unsteadiness, light-headedness or dizziness, chest pain or pressure, nausea, or shortness of breath. Mild soreness after exercise may be experienced after beginning a new exercise. Contact your physician if the soreness does not improve after 2-3 days.

    Hi Stewart! Thank you from Canada, practiced with this lesson during the evening as the sun set on a sunny Sunday. Really enjoyed the 'strong' moments with the one knee lifted and finding the different twists. I was surprised to find the sensations reaching these spots of deep tension in the upper middle of my back, in behind the base of my sternum. Great to find a lesson that touches those hard to reach areas, and provides freedom of movement and relief to tight spots at the base my neck. Thank you for spoiling us with these long, juicy lessons!

    Hello again, dear Stewart! Thank you for your reply yesterday.
    I tried a few of your Fit Sit Stick series some time ago, but had forgotten about them. I will try them again, as I find this lesson here is so wonderful. I don’t know your Turning Back the Clock series, so will look for them, as well. I also started riding an indoor bike, and now climb nine floors of my building’s staircase, every morning after some Feldenkrais and qi gong, and am already feeling younger than ever before in my life! I realise I have to work at this, before it’s too late.
    I did this lesson again just now, and feel even better than yesterday! I certainly feel the difference on each side of my spine, with my scoliosis, but feel a new suppleness and ease that I have never felt before. I will continue to do this exercise every day and try to also supplement with the others you mentioned.
    I am a volunteer driver to help elderly people go to medical appointments, and see the difference in those who are active (walk a lot) and those who are sedentary. My mom and dad learned to play tennis after they retired, and they were both still playing at 82, when mom got breast cancer and had to stop. However, I know her activity helped her live a good life until she passed away at 96! I am determined, now that I have retired, to take care of my body and mind, the best way I can. Thank you so much for inspiring me, and helping me do this! 😊

      Dear Denise, I couldn't agree with you more and I find your words inspiring. I had an accident in my 30s that severely impacted my right foot. For a time I was using a walking stick. It's what started me on this wonderful journey of exploring how movement can be used rehabilitatively to enrich our lives and I am on a mission to help people live the best lives they can as independently as possible and I love the fact that each day, each moment is an opportunity to engage in this learning. I wish you a wonderful weekend. Stewart

      @@stewarthamblin @Feldenkrais Moments with Stewart Hamblin And i say it meaningfully. I have one question for you. I notice that I always tend to be more on my right side, in life, so when I lay down, I feel my right side weighted to the floor and the other side in space. After these lessons, it improves a lot. But physiotherapists tell me that I have muscle imbalances causing that. So do you think I need to also work on muscle imbalances, strengthening certain muscles on certain sides as well?? What are your thoughts on how to correct this?

    • @stewarthamblin
      @stewarthamblin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ImpulsoCreativo9322 Hi Andrea, I am the opposite. It is usually my right side that is lighter when I lie down and this also shows up in standing in that the right side of the pelvis rotates forward. For me, as a Feldenkrais practitioner, its less about correcting individual muscles but about bringing awareness to what I am doing and working with movement rather than muscles. The fact that you are detecting these differences means that you have information to act upon. For example, in standing I realise that I am often not really bearing weight down into my right heel. The question for me then becomes, ah! what would it be like if I did let weight come into that heel in the same way as my left. Once you begin to recognise these differences you have information to act on and that's the key, from a Feldenkrais perspective, to real change.

      Hi Lucy, you only tilt the legs to the point that you can keep the shoulder on the floor. As soon as you feel it lift come back. Even if you only move the legs a millimeter , that's absolutely fine

    Does it take years to become a Feldenkrais teacher? Where do you study?

      Hi Lucy, the Feldenkrais Guild's training usually takes 4 years.It seems like a long time but for me it passed very quickly. Its about 40 days (from memory) each year over the 4 years. I absolutely loved it. I took my training in the UK but you can do it all over Europe and the world. There are other teachers who studied with Moshe who offer a different training format over a shorter period of time. Its a life transforming experience.

      Thank you for answering Stewart! I was talking to a friend exactly about that, that's quite difficult if you are not in Situ. I have been doing two days, your classes, It is so i mediate the change, and it goes to your brain, and the brain stars re-education again. I AM THRILLED. cause now I see my scapula, are like glued fossils on my ribs. Thanks

    This is a good lesson, thanks Stewart.. Please consider speaking less during the sessions to allow for more introspection. It’s important for the practitioner to connect with their own process. I found the instructions to be excessive. At any rate, thank you for a good lesson, my neck thanks you!
