Dolby Vision basically won the HDR content war. So Samsung is shooting themselves in the foot with this one.
Eventually they will realize this and bring Dolby Vision to their TV.

Personally I think these trolls that call Samsung TVs garbage and unreliable are actually unhappy with their own TVs because they picked a different brand and crapping on Samsung is the only way they can make themselves feel better about dumping their entire stimulus on a bad TV.

To the question @ 08:44 Can You View LG's Signature OLED T from the Rear?
I think he meant something else ...
If you watch from the "other side", can you turn the picture?
Does the TV offer a "setting" letting you choose from which side you're watching?
PS: I guess, TV, games or movies probably not, because it will need the black background on both sides!
But turning the picture while in transparent mode (without background) would be "nice to have".

This is wrong. The point of HDR is to remove the display from the experience, to feel like you're really there looking at the scene with your own eyes. From time to time this is going to require an APL that is far higher than what is standard for an SDR display.
For example, when I load up Europa in Destiny 2, the entire map is made of ice and snow. More than 50% of the display is showing 1000 nits of brightness, as it SHOULD.
I'll never understand the people that say HDR displays are too bright, even the black surface of the road outside is going to be brighter than some SDR displays. Anything in direct sunlight will be over 500 nits which is going to provide quite the APL.
Higher brightness levels will also cause our pupils to dilate, making dim pixel look even dimmer by contrast (haha) to the super bright pixels.
The 10,000 number for dolby vision comes from the ST2084 gamma curve, which is also used in the HDR10 standard. I'm so excited we're finally here.
    5:35
No, tonemapping is bad and should be avoided as much as possible. I say this as someone who is currently crying that tonemapping on most HDR monitors doesn't work consistently when connected to a Windows PC. Tonemapping is only good when ABL brings the panel brightness below the detail threshold of a scene, or when the panel was already incapable of hitting said detail threshold. Examples of good tonemapping use cases are 4000 nit movies on a 1000 nit display, or when 50% of a scene is at 1000 nits and the display can only do 650 nits at that screen space.
    6:16
Video games. Video games have been at 10,000 nits for 6 years. Not all of them sure, but some still push way up there. Monster Hunter World is at 6500 nits, Forza games are at 10,000 nits, Gears 5 is at 10,000 nits, etc.

Just curious and this is a question in many ways - why aren't more TVs using IPS panels with local dimming? IPS has less contrast but won't local dimming fix that like it does for ADS and VA panels? ADS is sort of IPS in a way but reserved for higher-end models. Why do VAs with LD even exist?

@@johnb4905 Vincent Teoh reviewed the 65 inch X95L which is not available in the US and I believe he said native contrast is irrelevant once local dimming comes in because it pushes it from low levels (2000? Iirc) to over 100,000. I suspect that would be the case for IPS panels but I could be wrong. If IPS panels work with local dimming, it’s crazy that we’d use VA panels with their horrible viewing angles and lesser color accuracy.
LG uses IPS with local dimming but they never get good reviews or achieve deep darks. It’s strange. I think ADS is the compromise where local dimming works and you get good viewing angles.

why? that's eye burning bright . a perfect black to 1000Nits is a greater range than hollywood cameras can record ot your eye can handle at same time ( if full 1000 screen nits ) ie imagine a a chess board white square with patterns at 1000NITS 50% of screen , Pure black squares with very dark pattern a 0.5-2 nits - you could see the white pattern and then you would have to focus very hard to see the black pattern - you could not see both at same time . 4000Nits , 10000Nits is there for headroom and very cool HDR specular highlights that won't impinge your vision. As Caleb said blacks are not black in a bright room . 0-1000Nits is a greater dynamic range , than 5Nits in a bright room to 10000Nits , Increased NITS should also improve colour volume ( could be wrong ). OQ-OLED has greater NITs in primary colours , nowhere close to 1000Nits yet pure . however QD-OLEDS have some black crush I believe hampering dynamic range

@@BIGBASSSAMA_4 I could see it possible as and addon to 10000Nits- if used wisely eg most of the movie in the 10K range . Then spectacular effects allowed to go higher . But I think the effect is then the entertainment , Imagine seeing a 50K Nit full colour lightning bolts on a a big screen - it would be like the flash in real life lighting up all the ground ( ie your room ) or fireworks at full nit colour . Yes it would be dramatically impressive. I think having overhead helps. Eg 8K can make 4K look better for edges etc . An 8K OLED with give so much control in dark areas for 4k - instead of 1 pixel on or off , you have 4 - 4 off , 3 of 4 off , 2 of fall off 1 of 4 off , plus the placement of the off ones .
Again such a TV would be cutting edge , power bill will be higher etc , only 1% of consumers would have it . That's why even a basic C4 83" would be good for someone like me - Works on 99% of the classic movies I love in a dark room .
Plus a 1000NIT lightning bolt works well , your brain pumps it up , but definitely not the same visceral effect . You can't really beat a good subwoofer for the affect on your whole body , no matter how you pump the volume to your main speakers . So I can see some people love NITs . people grossly underestimate sound for immersion in movies and video games

Thank you for covering the 10k nits. People also don't realize many video games are mastered at 10k nits, not just movies. There is a reality to brightness. Our sun is bright and that light intensity brings more color and contrast to real life. As we get closer to that threshold, our brain will start to conceive that TV as "real" and you'll start to feel it. • @KryssN1
      @KryssN1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +20

Exactly, there been done a study of DV vs HDr10 by Netflix. Until recently HDR10 been actually better due to pixelation of DV and most people in a blind test preferred HDR10 due to pixelation and higher full screen brightness.
We are talking about HDr10 not 10+ even.
Most people aactually doesn’t understand that DV and HDR10+ were made due to TVs at the time were not bright enough. So they needed a method to assign brightness to lower end TVs.
But nowadays most high end TV since last generation gets above 1000 nits which is enough to natively assign colors by TV without need for tone mapping. As most content is still only mastered to 10 bit, DCIP3 (at most REC2020, which Samsung is way ahead of LG) and 1000nits of brightness.
Before movies come out being mastered to higher nits and to higher standard, consumers first need to have user base of TVs that can see more than that.
Samsung won’t pay for the DV fee, as their TV don’t need them. Samsung also been consistently out competing LG on pricing for OLED, by a size step up or competing with price with lower model in Europe. So the cost trickles down.
Finally for last 3 months all movies in AppleTv and Amazon Prime had HDR10+ support.

Having the choice is nice and DV looks good but it's not a deal breaker.
I like using my PC to watch movies and the player I use doesn't support DV but does support HDR10, HDR10+, so I watch them in that format, which is the same as having a Samsung TV. It looks really good to me and has superior sound to my Firestick because it's in the TV HDMI port, not my AV Rec and is connected to rec with optical cable because eARC doesn't work. I can watch a lot of movies and show with DV with the Firestick but notice a bigger difference having lossless audio, than losing DV.
