- This SUV has a beautiful and comfortable interior. But it doesn't quite outweigh the weak range.

Damn. Bro called Mercedes ugly. They'll file for bankruptcy next week.
😂
He's right though. That thing is hideous 😢
He ain't wrong tho. The EGE, and both EQS' looks like it got a lil too close to the sun n melted a bit.

Love the fact Marques doesn't hold back
Well he is pretty huge Tesla fanboy. So he does hold back there.
@@tissot233 how is that holding back! if he likes tesla then he is not holding back liking it, it goes both ways
The down/up paddle mimic the manual shifting of gears, that's why when you press down u get more regen, because when you downshift in a ICE you get that engine brake.
I think he knows but still lazy of a billion dollar company like Mercedes to mass-produce the same pedals for their ICE and EV lines. Also from a functionality perspective how often do you switch between regen to have to need dedicated stalks for it.
Came to the comments for this
Agreed
The infotainment system looks like it runs on Windows Vista.
Big time, he wasn't kidding.
and in the video you could also see some hiccups in the UI. keeping in theme with VISTA
😂
😂
Hey atleast it's better then a single ipad and nothing else. Doesn't look like I'm ordering a McDonald's big Mac when I get in my nice car.
If you took the badges off and asked me to guess who made it, I would say it looks like my grandma’s Buick 👵🏻
It definitely looks like a 2014 Buick Encore that had an EV trim introduced in 2019
Actually it does look like a Buick lol
This car reminds me of a tesla blob egg design. So ugly. At least the seats and interior are better then that of a tesla but def not worth the 100k
@@user-my4xu4gf1z This looks a lot worse to me than a Tesla. Tesla may have an incredibly minimal interior, but this looks like they went the opposite way.
yes it looks like a buick
I graduated at Stevens yesterday. Your speech was great.
I sense the car of the year award. Most improved car. Car with best range. Actually I think that would be a nice add to this channel. Best interior etc. best look. All voted on with the pictures from the phone with the best camera.
MBUX looks like Windows Media Player from 2006
oh god that's why it felt so wrong lol
I still love the vista aesthetic
Nailed it 😂
MBUX sounds like their upcoming cryptocurrency
Or iOS 6.0.
120k for that is crazy. Who is dropping that much on this car.
Nobody. Watch it depreciate, and its value drop like a damn rock.
Rich people fashion and activities made me stop questioning what they do
They'll be 30k in three years. You'd have to be straight up brain damaged to pay that for this
@@DefinitelyNotAFerret this looks like it was made for rich grandmas, if i had money to burn and wanted an EV id buy the newest Porsche taycan without question. If i were more practical with my spending id get a tesla model y. i would literally never buy this new Mercedes under any circumstance
If you don't want the AMG then the prices start at 75K
love this type of reviews because his honest
The dashboard graphics look like something you'd find in those old DVD player programs you'd get for Windows.
Why have cars infotainment systems always been 10-15 years behind. Like they could buy an Android phone with stock apps, put it behind some glass, and it would work better then most infotainment systems out there
Or a galaxy tab s8 ultra.Still significantly better than anything there is,apart from maybe Tesla's infotainment software
Safety tests and checks plus approval
@@pfseriregs slow down updates but not that design choice, Mercedes needs a new team and not one from the 80s
I asked an automotive engineer the same question, the answer is whatever stock system a manufacturer puts in a car has to be compliant with very strict safety and quality standards. (how they react or break in an accident, how they manage the constant resonance, how they take the temperature when you leave your car in the sun or in the freezing cold, etc. You get the idea) Consumer grade electronics rarely meet these criteria and I guess Mercedes doesn't have a whole hardware division for developing cutting edge tablets for cars, so you get the shitty 10 year old infotainment systems. I do agree that for the price you pay for supposedly premium car, you would deserve a much better system. Hopefully we'll get a new generation of car tablets soon because they can't get away with these "archaic" devices for much longer 😂
It's all nonsense. Manufacturer's just don't like to acknowledge that they're terrible at certain things, UX and UI being two major ones. They could easily use Android Auto with some fancy skins if they wanted to, ala Volvo/Polestar. They'd rather ship a half arsed digital experience which is all in house, rather than giving credit where it's due. All this testing nonsense still applies to marque's who use AA, so clearly that's not the reason.
You’re absolutely right about the Vista feel. That home button is straight from Windows Media Player.
Great review. Balanced perspective.
Very honest review as always
To me the pedal shifters for changing recuperation make sense. Turning recuperation up would be the equivalent of downshifting when youre slowing down.
The down paddle to increase the re-gen is actually the same as downshift on a gas car to increase engine-breaking.
Could you do a review on the FF 91 2.0? The car looks out of this world!
Graduating college and posting this in the same day is some insane dedication tbh
I mean, this was probably filmed days ago and edited and posted by someone else.
I work at a Mercedes dealer in NJ and MBUX 3.0 is out, but not in the EQ cars just yet. Newer models like the E-Class have it. Also with the drive unit if you press on the little screens you can change what those functions do so it’s not limited to the 2 things you saw on them.
It‘s wild how dumb/uninformed this guy is, yet people call him an expert
Does MBUX 3.0 fix the EQ car’s jellybean appearance?
@@InnovatinatorType what car do you drive?
@@MaticTheProto an M850i Gran Coupe. I would actually be in this market segment if I wanted an SUV and if I paying the price of an EQE, I don’t care about its drag coefficient, I want a luxury SUV that has road presence .. which happens to be electric.
There’s a problem with the whole EQ line, which is who is the target demographic? Their normal buyers of E/S level sedans and suvs willing to spend upwards of 100k are not doing so to look like a jelly bean smooshed car. They do so because they like the road presence previously associated to the brand.
What market is there for 100k+ vehicles that look all goofy for a low drag coefficient with mediocre range and mediocre power, that doesn’t even justify the design? Why would anyone go with EQ over the established electrics, or even BMW and Audi’s more tame approach?
you need ask Mercedes why do they make some of the most ugly electric cars, if you compare it with their previous premium looking models... the electric cars have too much plastic, it make them look like a cheap kitchen oven or coffee machine xD
Doug is the type of guy that… oh.. wrong guy
No customed knee pads
Great review.
Hey Bro, even you say you don't like it, I like it, but thank you for showing what it is.
Thank you for finally saying what I’ve been thinking about the infotainment design
9:36 i think this makes sense tbh. people are used to pressing left paddle for downshift which creates engine braking effect
Yeah, same as our e-tron, or other EVs with paddles.
Yup, was natural from the start to me for my EQ Mercedes, I guess it makes sense when you've driven a car with paddle shifters before.
You increase engine breaking by shifting down and this effect is mirrored by increasing recouperation when you pull the down paddle, makes sense to me.
Same as HKG vehicles (like IONIQ5, EV6, EV9, …)
Nothing about this review considered it was an AMG. He treated it like a trim package.
I don't get the need for these paddles. I set my car to max regen (one-pedal driving) on day 1 and haven't changed it since. Why would you want anything else in an EV?
We have the EQS SUV I can comfortably say that is an amazing vehicle.. good points raised from your side..
Yo Marques when are you dropping the IONIQ 5N video. Would love your take on it.
Thanks so much I asked you to review this car a couple of months ago and you finally got to it thank you
Honestly the thing that bugs me the most looking at this car, it's the fact that the front doesn't open. Imma be driving it around and thinking about that if I could ever afford it lmao
Yeah like what's in there 😑
It does open, latch is the same position as all other Mercedes( Above left knee) Just they have a cover and a screw on that latch! AKA they don't want customers to open it. They don't encourage DIY for sure. But the reason they chose that might be because high-voltage risk( At least they think) . Also they probably looked at their data and think their avg Mercedes Customers don't normally open hood and work on them even on the gas models, they just go to the dealership

I love the look of the software.. every piece of data you need to see is right there.. yeah, the background is not good, but this is nice, functional software! Its a rare sight in this day and age.
I agree on the infotainment system design issue. They obviously overloaded it with colours, details, less intuitive interface. It also doesn't match the interior design, looks absolutely different. For the expensive premium quality it should look sleek, minimalistic and not disturbing.
U do realize "minimalistic" means inexpensive, right? That's just a marketing word so they don't have to say they cut manufacturing cost down so they can make their profit margins higher. Look at tesla and how their able to do constant price cuts on their cars. A car thats expensive should have good qaulity buttons for simple controls. Always. Looking down and scrolling for everything rather then just pushing and driving is exactly what "luxury" isn't.
@@user-my4xu4gf1z came here to say what you said but you did it better
@@user-my4xu4gf1z No, minimalism doesn't have to be inexpensive. It means manufacturer paid more attention to ergonomics and overall design. You can always check previous videos on this channel about Kia EV9 and Genesis EV. Their interior and interface design have much better attachment to each other than this expensive MB. It looks more like 3 different design departments were working completely independent: exterior, interior and infotainment.
@@Dntdgxj so do u consider the porsche gt3rs or gt2rs to look minimalistic? Considering they are the most aerodynamic and purpose built cars in the world? Trick question. They aren't. They look insane and are insane
@@user-my4xu4gf1z Porsche GTS series doesn't target to bring comfort, luxury and aesthetics. It basically ignores it all, aiming to bring power, handling, control on the track instead. In some way they are minimalistic after losing the weight of all original Porsche bells and whistles. This MB is for regular people who drive it daily and use the interface daily. But what they get is a cocktail which is not worth the money asked. This EQ-series is one of the most depreciating car on the market now. For a reason.

I am sorry, the looks isn't the best especially for the price but i don't think it's outright ugly if you're comparing it to the BMW IX or the Model X. Especially the BMW IX with the frontend and rearend with body lines and shapes that don't flow very well at all. The model X would be even better if the headlights get a refresh to like the model 3 highland.
UI is a very subjective question, i agree it's functional and the looks isn't the prettiest but it's miles better than Idrive especially in the layout of settings. Connecting your phone to Idrive takes more steps from menu to submenu to sub options just to connect your phone.
And while calling this ugly, we might as well throw in vinfast and fisker under the bus too.
IX is a polarizing look and some people might like it. This one looks like mb took zero risk and just made a generic car. It’s tasteless and cowardly. If you are an old man sure by all mean buy it but if you want your car to look different then buy an iX. Model X is too old to even be discussed in the same conversation.
@@garychou9621the iX isn't polarising, it's downright ugly, this one just looks like Mercedes gave up
@@garychou9621 it's not polarizing rather extremely radical looking with current team of BMW designers. It's a vehicle that throws away all previous BMW design languages out the door. Further refering to Frank Stephenson's video on the IX (designer of the McLaren P1 and the BMW X5). The car is designed by "product designers not car designers". A lot more tasteless and emotionless in my opinion with it's exterior design. I am loving how BMW is trying to evolve but this just isn't it.
I can’t believe that model X has been out for so long and overall is still the best choice between these high end suvs
@@garychou9621 Yeah, i’m with you. The IX is a bit ugly but i’d take it every day above a car that looks this dull.

I find it logical that the pedal shifters are used to alter recovery. It would be the same as downshifting while you are slowing down to speed up recuperation.
The issue is that Marques prefers minimalism. He likes the Tesla aesthetic. Nothing wrong with that, but his criticisms should always be considered through that partiality, no?
