    Video has great pacing. He hits all the necessary points in such a succinct way. Only video I needed to prepare for replacing my water pump, timing belt, and serpentine belt.

    The first video about this topic that briefly talks about the timing cover gaskets. Had trouble confirming the qty needed. Going to be tackling this job next week

    Awesome job keeping it simple and to the point. The torque specs sure help as well. I have done a timing belt on 2001 Honda Accord, but this will be the first time on a Subaru. Getting ready to tackle this project this weekend. Your video is exactly what I needed to build some confidence. Thank you for putting this together!

    Great video! I am eventually going to have to do my timing belt on my 2011 Subaru Impreza and this video really helped. I also have a manual 5-speed.

    Thanks great video very detailed, you should be a shop teacher ha ha subaru has has used that same engine design since the seventies, did a lot of them over the years. 75% of the time the water pump seizes up and takes out the timing belt

    12:32 that's where the water pump is. Oh boy , my toyota corolla 1.8 fzz it's optional if you want to take the alternater off to replace the pump .
    The 2003 1.8 has an internal timing chain that looks like a motorcycle chain .the accessories belt is outside the engine for alt a/c steering, and water pump off the crank with a tensioner . The timing chain has a different tensioner
    Bmw and VW use timing chains that belong on a bicycle

    Thanks a lot for the instructions!
    Did you end up having any through-holes on the water pump that needed some sealer on the bolts?

    there are so many things that can go very wrong... like everything is lined up but the cog pulley isn't possible to get on... even without last pulley installed

    Why do the camshafts have two different pulleys? is that so they do not get mixed up? Do they have same seals behind both of them? Is there a special tool to use to remove the right camshaft pulley?

    The water pump gasket I got was bent up pretty good in a spot during shopping. Can I still install it?

    @9:12 did you have the car in gear to take the crank bolt out without it rotating backwards? Is that how it works?

    • @NNKH2
      @NNKH2  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't remember particularly in this video what I did. But yes if you put the car in reverse and you lock the brakes usually that's enough. But sometimes the clutch may slip

    I have 1998 Subaru Forester going down road it just stopped running but I was still coasting down road. Had it towed to garage. They said the timing belt was gone. When it breaks where does it go? Does it go out in the road? Also it didn’t make any sound at all when it stopped running, is that a sign of breaking timing belt? Thank you. I don’t know what to do with car.

    The metal WP gasket doesn't need any RTV.

      I've had them leak before. If you have anything shy of an absolute perfect mating surface you could have the same happen. Ever since I've been using the right stuff I've never had one seep or leak again.. so do you need to? Absolutely not. But it beats having to redo a job 6 months later do it to a little weep.

    Excellent work, but that's a steel gasket, and nothing should be put on that.

    • @NNKH2
      @NNKH2  ปีที่แล้ว

      I I think you're referring to around the combustion chamber area of the gasket. Yes don't put anything there. f you don't put anything where the oil drains back into the block it will leak in the future. Just like they do from the factory.
