      Bro
      Im 15.
Swimming gets very hard (ive been getting lessons for 4 days) because of my extremely stiff body.
I can expand more on the issue, if u respond.
Can u say what i should do to
1)Be able to float? (im a bony guy)
2)Stay in water level while doing freestyle (i tend to need a HUGE amount of energy that i almost break before doing even one lap, because im slightly underwater, not at level)
3)to backfloat? For this stroke, i cant even get my butt above from a pointed arrow shaped body if my life depended on it😭😭. Literally my ass touches the 1m pool floor, i cant bring my stomach up, even with a fricken floatboat.
What the actual f shud i do

@@shrinkious4873 It sounds like you're facing some challenges, but don't worry, we'll work through them together. Here are some tips for each of your concerns:
Floating: Being bony can actually be an advantage in swimming because it means you have less natural buoyancy. Try lying on your back in the water and focus on relaxing your body. Keep your lungs full of air and your body should naturally float.
Staying level during freestyle: This often happens when your body position isn't streamlined. Make sure your body is parallel to the surface of the water, with your head in line with your spine and your hips up. Keep your core engaged to maintain a straight line from your head to your toes. Practice kicking from your hips, not your knees, to propel yourself forward with less effort.
Backfloat: This can be tricky, especially if you're naturally denser. Try using a floatation device like a kickboard or foam noodle to help support your lower body while you work on your backfloat technique. Focus on keeping your head back and your chest high to help bring your hips up. Practice relaxation techniques and breathing deeply to help your body stay buoyant.
Remember, swimming takes time and practice, so be patient with yourself. You've got this! 🏊‍♂

Well thank you, but its all easier said than done...
Ik some people take more time to learn, but I have very limited access to pools. I am abroad and here i just joined a 12 day class. Im 5 days in, still not even proper with freestyle. Seeing 6 and 8 yr old kids that are smaller than me, on day 7 or 8 doing different strokes so smoothly makes me sad...
I cant afford a pool in my home, and nor do i have a car.. To travel to the nearest pool, i have to get on a bus for an hour, and buses are kinda dangerous in our region.
So, I dont know if i will ever access a pool even once before pursuing my higher education after these 12 days, which makes it nearly impossible to even think of taking time..
But thanks for the help! I am a very busy student, and im unable to do any extra curriculars. Nor do i have any gym facilities nearby just to keep myself flexible.. Ig for some people its just this way..
But thanks for the help, really appreciate the response🙂

@@shrinkious4873 I hear you, and I understand that learning to swim can be especially challenging when you have limited access to pools and other resources. It's tough to see others progress quickly while facing such obstacles yourself. But don't lose heart! Every step forward, no matter how small, is a victory. And your determination to keep trying despite the challenges is commendable.

Ive improved so much and have the technique under my wing for the most part.
But i got overconfident and almost drowned in the deep end of the pool. Wouldve died if it was any deeper..
Ig practicing till my legs cramped (i will never forget the pain) paid off after all..
      Thanks for the response!

Sometimes you realize that swimming is just like walking, when walking, you dont have to dance along the way, you just walk and catch your body to go the next place, in swimming, you just do necessary movements in order to go the next place, just mimic the fish, its not stiff, just flowy(still learning to swim)

    • @RocketSwimming
      @RocketSwimming  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

That's a great analogy! Swimming can be compared to walking in terms of its fluidity and rhythm. As you continue to practice and gain more experience in the water, you'll find that swimming becomes more natural and effortless, just like walking. This is incredible!! As a kid, I tried going down the shallow side of a water slide thinking it'd be a fun experience. Coming out of the slide into the water feet first scared the living daylights out of me, causing extreme panic. I'd been fearful ever since. Now as a 50-year-old, I have always wanted to conquer my overall fear by learning to swim. In particular, to enjoy the water the way the my daughters do when we are travelling. Of all the vids I've seen on YT, this one is one helluva gem! Even got me cheering on this gentleman's progress! I hope to be him someday (crossing my fingers hoping you'll be my instructor 🤭). Thank you for this!

This was great! Had me cheering the learner on too!!! I had a horrible experience as a child learning how to swim being taught by a woman at the local YMCA. I have been afraid of trying to swim in any water every since then. But now that I'm in my 50ties I truly want to get pass the fear and become friends with the water because I think it's beautiful and I know its my friend because it makes up the majority of the human body we need it to exist so how much of an enemy can it truly be. I'm currently looking into finding a good swim instructor. I wish I could come to you. Great job and both of you the learner and the instructor, your service is appreciated.

WOW! Thank you so much for such a kind comment. I really appreciate it. Your thinking and vision is really great. You're also right about water being a part of us and we definitely need to be comfortable with it. All you have to do is follow the first 3 steps in the video to get comfortable in the pool. That is the most important step. Once you learn to float and relax on your back, you'll start learning how to swim. Feel free to contact me on jonny@rocketswimming.com if you have any difficulties regarding swimming.

curious what happened horribly at your YMCA lesson when you were young? I've been teaching at my local Y for 15 yrs. and hopefully I've never caused any of my students to have a horrible experience to the extent that they would be perminently afraid of the water.

    • @DaretoDream814
      @DaretoDream814 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@AmyHonkomp It truly was a traumatic experience for me as a child. I rarely talk about it but the experience remains in my mind as if it were not over 40 something years ago believe it or not. I was one of those husky type kids back then they simply called us fat. And we also had a lot of prejudice where I lived then within the Chicago area. My parents always wanted to keep up with the Joneses so to speak. Not blaming them for the experience, however, I often times ended up being one or two of the black kids in the majority of the activities my parents allowed me to participate in. Well, I'm not saying that the young white woman intentionally tried to drown this black kid but when it came to me she really offered no care in the way in which she handled me that day she grabbed me and had me to walk along the ramp hoovering over the large body of water. She sat at the edge of the ramp and placed me on her lap and told me to stretch out my legs and arms, hold my breath and then she pushed me into the water. There was no pretraining before that she simply just pushed me into the water and I remember opening my mouth to try to scream but of course the water overcame me as my body began to sink towards the bottom of the pool. I blanked out and remember waking up to mouth to mouth resuscitation regurgitating lots of water. Water leaking from my ears and nose, chest hurting feeling ill and shocked for the that rest of that day, and for a while. Reflecting back I could've died that day if the young white man hadn't tried to save my life. Needless to say my parents never bothered me again about learning how to swim and nor did I ever ask about it. As a matter of fact we just never talked about it after that day. You must be a good passionate and caring swim instructor and it certainly is of value to have such ones in such the position.

It's a long video, but uve got to say there's a ton of really good details in here.
Worth the time to put it on and let it play if you've got something else to do and just want to pick up tips.
I'm trying to learn now and having a lot of problems with buoyancy, which I assume is probably a bunch of other problems that I just think is buoyancy.
I don't float at the surface. Back float sustained for about 30 seconds, head back, goggles on, lungs full, I measured mouth to surface is about 14 inches at the highest point. After about 30 seconds, I slowly descend until I smack into the bottom of the pool.
250lb powerlifter with about 10-15% more muscle than your student here.
Would love to hear some tips for us dense guys.
I can do all of the movements fine, but my head barely crests the surface in an aggressive breast stroke. In 30 minutes, I got my eyes above the waterline once.

    • @RocketSwimming
      @RocketSwimming  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and for your honest feedback!
Here are a few tips that might help:
1: Practice balancing drills in the water to help you distribute your weight more evenly. This can help with floating and overall stability.
      2: Keep your body relaxed.
3: Work on your breathing technique. Focus on maintaining a steady, controlled breath.
4: Adjust your body position. Try to keep your hips up and your head in a neutral position to align your body better with the water’s surface.
Keep up the practice, and don’t get discouraged. Swimming is a skill that improves over time with patience and persistence. You’re doing great!

@@RocketSwimming @RocketSwimming hi. Thanks for looking at my questions. I have achieved a stable back float, but due to my density, my mouth is around 14 inches below the surface. I am very relaxed and only using gentle kicks to keep in position. After around 30 seconds, I start to sink quite aggressively and my shoulder blades smack into the ground.
I am using goggles and a nose pincher so I can feel relaxed and calm and observe what is happening.
No part of my body is near the surface, so I cannot take a breath.
In breast stroke, I have been able to get the top of my head to barely come out of the water, and if I exert myself quite a bit, I can get my head to come out so my eyes reach the surface. Still another 4 inches to go before my mouth is free of the water. 6 inches probably needed to take a breath.
Basically everything I am doing is about 12 to 14 inches lower than what I see in the videos. There is no position I have found yet that puts me close enough to the surface that I can take a breath. I have tried all basic beginner positions. The only way to get my head clear is to stand. Which is kind of a problem.
Tucked into a ball position to float with a full breath, I'm almost 2 feet below the surface.
      Would appreciate some tips.

You probably saw more combat in Nashville, TN than you did in the Guard. Your swimming story is inspirational, Quentin.
QUESTION for Johnny Rocket- Why did you ask him if he gets water in his nose? The reason I ask is that this is a problem for me as I try to learn to breath while doing the front crawl.

      Thank you so much!
It is important to know if the beginner swimmers have a habit of nose breathing while swimming. We may have to use nose clips to avoid nose breathing. You should practice BOBS to get used to mouth breathing. Keep me posted on your journey.
